One of Madonna's best songs and is underrated for its originality. 23 years old and it still holds up. Nostalgic and heartfelt with the orchestral strings echoing the sentiment that time is moving and we cannot stop it. Complimented by the Wild West theme.

I am the absolute opposite of the kind of man who would listen & enjoy this Madonna track. I've spent my teens, 20s and now early 30s listening to black, doom & death metal. I have black metal releases out there I've recorded. But this track & music video - I come back to it every year or so. The choreography is incredible. The way the sky does that flash change when it goes from the middle-bridge/verse into the chorus with the beat coming in afresh... So. Fucking. Good.
"Don't Tell Me" may be your definition of a timeless hit, but the part of the video showing Madonna trying to sex it up on a mechanical bull just doesn't hold up over two decades later.
i agree, shania was the pioneer of merging country and pop music, but she’s a country artist (like dolly parton), as a main pop artist, i cannot think of many who have tried country aesthetic and sound before madonna (i’m not saying it didn’t exist, but it wasn’t popular until she did it)
What’s crazy about this is, Madonna’s career where just at the midway point here. 20 years later, she performed this song infront of almost 2 million people in Rio De Janeiro. The biggest stand alone concert ever, she’s the never ending pop star. We will never see an artist like this again. The Queen Of Pop ❤️
I think this might be the most beautiful thing she ever did. Underrated. She was 42, the same age Beyoncé is now (2024) when embarking on an exploration of country music. It's different (I think her whole record will be country, and B is actually from the South), but it's fascinating to see the parallels.
I did not appreciate this at the time. It's gorgeous. This was really against the grain for when it came out to mesh so many genres. The choreography is so fun and it looks like they had a ball doing it.
@@77bluegold Madonna was the first to subvert country music style. ‘Don’t Tell Me’ was the beginning of country music breaking in to the pop world. You don’t have to devote a whole album to be the first to take the country music genre and spin it on its head…just one great song will do it ☺️
There's no "country" element in the song itself - only the style and dance of western culture with hunky guys - in a sultry-sounding pop song. Madonna did a great job implementing this western cowboy style into the video for greater visual appeal. Nicely done!

No apologies for saying mainstream popular music was better in the past. The videos were better, everything was better. This is a brilliant video & song. It wouldn’t be made today .
Facts just to see how it's supposed to be done... This is a classic by a none country singer, Madonna was so smooth and organic with it I would've bought a album by her if she pursued it, Beyonce's introduction feels "forced" I can't describe the feeling
This song reminds me of my mother when she was younger, she was carefree and happy, always smiling and beautiful - something changed along the way and she’s never smiled like that ever again; sure, we have good moments, but I don’t think she’ll ever be as happy, but I have that version of her canonised in my head and heart forever.
I feel you. I have a similar experience...love what you can while you can. It's all fleeting, so sear the loving moments into our hearts, for that is...eternal. Thank you for your share. It gives comfort...

Mise these years
🔥👍🐐🎸♥️
She had been going for decades. But this was Madonna prime. With music beautiful stranger and hung up. Absolute brilliant pop music. Still holds its ground to be fair
Music, the album, has aged incredibly well. Its musical production still sounds fresh and modern, more than 20 years later...
Modernization ruins everything it touches.
this.
I remember this being on all the time in the morning before 9/11 happened
Yea
Yea :)
Coming here after The Celebration Tour in Rio. Shoutout to the editor of this videoclip!
One of the most beautiful videos ever. Mesmerizing. The camera work is supremely gorgeous, and so are the cowboys and the Queen herself.
YES!! agreed! 😍
Yeahhhh and the Queen herself😍😍
You betcha !
No apologies for saying mainstream popular music was better in the past. The videos were better, everything was better. This is a brilliant video & song. It wouldn’t be made today .
Who is watching this video in 2024? hands up❤😂
Beyoncé apparently😮
Haha. This song and dance is still one of my favorite guilty pleasures to do with a cowboy hat 🤠

Hands Up. All the way Up 🧤

Cowboy Carter made me revisit this legendary track
Facts just to see how it's supposed to be done... This is a classic by a none country singer, Madonna was so smooth and organic with it I would've bought a album by her if she pursued it, Beyonce's introduction feels "forced" I can't describe the feeling
@@TheRealBabylonian the lyrics for Hold em Texas was so horrible
The choreography is on point! So good.
Jamie King at his best
So cowboy
Dammit you're right. I didn't appreciate it before.
It's perfection.
Not gonna lie, I want to do the dance hah!
2:14 to 2:54 is ICONIC
💯%.
creativity was genuine... 2000's!
such a timeless song. Madonna was so ahead of her time. she's an utter genius and makes me proud to be a fan!

Have you noticed that each and every one of Madonna's music videos is unique? Not an easy task when she has literally hundreds of great songs.
You said it best
She's great
This is an amazing song with amazing video from an amazing album > 'Music'
She's The QUEEN!
The instrumental part in the end is so PERFECT! Love Madonna.
Mine also! It’s beautiful and cinematic ❤️
@@ezzar8165 I couldn’t agree more :)
That’s what I’m here for
I absolutely love the music of this song.
Is it a different song?
Favourite artist of all time
I can’t stop listening. Normal decent song, nice lyrics, everything is just all right.
This is a favorite jam.
A perfect pop song?

Same.
What has hoppende to All the grown ups. Lost in security
I feel you. I have a similar experience...love what you can while you can. It's all fleeting, so sear the loving moments into our hearts, for that is...eternal. Thank you for your share. It gives comfort...
One of those rare moments of perfection. Song, dancers, Madonna.
lindo demais !
Yeahhhh
how is this woman even real, so many years in music, reinventions, always coolest one
