He died of a brain tumor on May 27, 1993, I read. The two-part Highlander episode "Unholy Alliance" was dedicated to him. Ironically, he died while shooting the episode "Hunters" - the very same episode where his character Darius was beheaded by an evil faction of The Watchers. - from a dedicated and loyal Highlander fan!
Thanks for the info! It was so sad back then knowing that Werner Stocker life was cut too short. Two oldest immortals that I've always loved throughout the series. One was Methos and the other was Darius. It would've been interesting seeing them both interact together. That would've been a unique episode. If only.....
vunobi I think the death of Werner Stocker who played Darius was the main reasons they created the character of Methos. I don't have any proof of this its just a theory.
My name is Xavier st cloud...we met in the 1600’s in Algiers..I saw you again in the early 1800’s but those are later episodes and seasons 🤣😂. I need to remind you of my awesome name just in case you forgot.
You can easily explain that away with the fact that Xavier was peering through a gas mask and gas, and MacLeod was lying at an odd angle with a helmet and mustache. Might have taken a minute after a hundred years.
Wow - this is my fave episode to date. It’s got a great villain “I lied... and you’re dead” (4:00). Great humor: The official description from the Inspector was handsome man! The back and forth btwn Tessa and Duncan! (29:00) Duncan dreading exposing Richie’s fake gf (25:00). And topping it off w an epic battle.
bholdthegoddess , She’s French, remember they’re very Kissy Kissy with each other, even the men kiss on both cheeks. Here in the United States, men don’t do that. And then must keep a discreet and respectful distance to women. I kind of like that.
He just gives her hugs and sometimes a kiss on the cheek. It very much like you treat your mother or sister. In fact You see in the first season Ritchie being very young and also orphan and for him Mac and Tessa are like surragot parents or at the very least surragot elder brother and sister
Tessa leaving the show was the beginning of the end of the Highlander series. Her character was too important to Duncan. The show was never the same after her departure.
Xavier St Cloud is the opposite of Iman Fasil i read the Information Xavier St Cloud was a Moorish Warrior who was killed by Richard's Army in the Third Crusade his Immortal Teacher was a Crusader by the name of St Cloud from which he not only adapted his name but also killed his teacher Iman Fasil who Connor Fought in the car park was a Crusader who was killed in the Second Crusade and Converted to Islam and chose the name Iman which means Faith in Arabic Highlander has a Mix of Religions
I find it funny that St. Cloud was dumb enough to hold up that grenade for at least 2 seconds(yeah, I timed it). He was basically begging MacLeod to chop off his hand.
Xavier St. Cloud... my all-time favorite bad guy from this series. The first immortal up to that point to actually survive a third-act final battle with Duncan, he oozed charm and villainy. How I wish he was the actual Big Bad of Season 1 or Season 2 instead of just a villain-of-the-week.
I agree, Roland Gift was perfect in that role and it would have been neat to have him be the bad guy for a whole season. At least we get to see him in more episodes though.
Immortals' lost limbs don't grow back. Immortals don't regenerate in general. They just heal faster. That makes no sense though. What if an immortal loses his vital organs? Will he die permanently as if he had lost his head? Or will he come back to life after a while only to die almost instantly again since he is missing a vital organ like lets say, his heart and this will go forever? How does that work? They should have thought that more. It's a giant plot hole in the story or immortals.
noticed this as well? xavier died also from the gass in the store like all the others but after he came back he no longer died from it yet the gas was not gone and it was still lethal as we saw the other guy died from it to. Soo xavier should have died again as well and again till the gass was no longer present
That can also depend on the sword and what sort of strike you're aiming for...a katana for example is made from light enough materials that it can kind of "double" as a one handed or two handed sword. Bigger swords also tend to "pull" a bit, you swing one and momentum will drag the sword wide and if you don't let go with one hand you leave the entire opposite side open. Problem is, a real fight tends to look sloppy, jumping kicks look great on film but only an idiot would do it on the street.
7:34 I like how the police are completely unbothered by the fact that toxic gas was released into the air when the robbery occurred and none of them are bothered to wear any gas mask or face covering. Even if the gas has dispersed, they are still taking one heck of a risk. Great police work!
I just realized a plot hole to this episode, with Xavier not recognizing McLeod during ww1 considering later on in the series the it’s stated that Xavier first meet McLeod back in 1653 with Xavier‘s challenge to mcClouds teacher at the time Hamza el Kahir.
The writers were very sloppy with the MO of Xavier St. Cloud. Why would any immortal want to leave a trail of security video footage all across the planet? It makes no sense.
I always thought it was a pity that Kronos never got to get together a new version of the four horsemen. With Kronos taking the title of Death, Grayson taking the title of War ( he is a warmonger ), Xavier st Cloud as Pestilence ( he is a rotten bugger and does love a good poison gas ) and Kalas as Famine ( Unrelenting hunger for vengeance and quickenings}
They later decided Duncan actually met Xavier hundreds of years earlier...Finale has it. So it sounds like Darius met him in the 1700s compared to Mac in the late 1600s so Darius did not know him longer. Also that 90s laptop...man they were thick and different then
19:06 Somebody...OOO somebody...Can anybody tell meeeee what song this issaaaaaaaaaahhh DX? Please...Please.. The song with that guitar riff is just too good to not live with....Tell me please...
So OK donald murray the way you’re “describing” it, that is the Queen song “Somebody to Love”. BUT it didn’t play at 19:06 or anywhere else in this episode. 🤷♀️
I guess they forgot about that. They made a point of giving him lines where he was saying his career would be over and all which was completely unnecessary.
another great Episode, but one point I didn't get: How the Immortals can stay in the gas, if they "die" in it like the mortals? I mean, at the beginning Xavier St.Cloud died with the mortals in the gas, wakes up later an the gas cannot harm hin. But his mate with the mask is killed. So become the immortals immune, or on a logically base, the must die and wake up again and again till the gas is around (same on Duncan in the WW I flashback). For example: In the original movie, Connor, learn that he cannot drown, without getting "real drown" and wake up. I miss some point in the lore or think to logically?
might be due to the fact their strength is higher than normal so the need to hold it with two hands is a moot point? I think its simply because the stunt co-ordinators/trainers are trained in fencing and not traditional 2 handed sword fighting.
@19:40 Mac, really a groin kick. Beating the shit out of these old school tough guys is child's play for him. A groin kick is only acceptable if you're severely outmatched.
Duncan did say in Free Fall that The Game is not an Olympic event. Anything and everything is allowed. Schoolyard/Bro code rules kind of go out the window when people like you want to take your head every other day all the time. Sometimes a team sport as he said in Endgame.
I think the most annoying thing in this series is the fact that most of these goddamn immortals are using katanas and broadswords like they're using rapiers and shortswords--wielding them single-handedly when they're meant to be wielded with two hands for more power and control. You might argue that it shows their skill; I think it shows their lack of it.
I noticed that too, but to be fair a lot of stage swordsmanship in film and tv is based on later 19th century sabre or even modern fencing. Longsword and other european swords of the middle ages tended to have very different guard positions not held out in front (due to the lack of knuckle bow/only a simple crossguard.) And Katana were generally used two handed although they could be used one handed.
@fablan6 I think Immortals only do not regenerate parts they can survive without. I mean, even a human can, technically, survive with even all his four limbs cut. Limbs are not vital for the suvival. But when it's the heart, or other vital organs, I think they DO grow back. What I don't get is - would an Immortal die, if you cut off HALF his head?
@fablan6 they just wouldn't die. It was made clear that they dont die unless you cut off their head. The immortals are not human, that is why st. Cloud called them 'humans' in clear contrast to immortals.
I'm confused, didn't Duncan first meet Xavier in Arabia, Xavier challenged Duncan's friend, and Duncan's friend wanted to make a run for it, Duncan thought his friend was chicken, and stayed behind to challenge Xavier, but his friend showed up, to keep Duncan from fighting his fight. I think the backstory is in the finale part 1 episode, when Amanda got that immortal out of prison, so that she could take his head, for Duncan.
That was a different soul brother. That Moor had a squire & later that same squire had a run in with an angry Richie who beheaded him. When that Moor tried to kill Richie, I stepped in to avenge my teacher.
Yeah, it's a bit of a series continuity error. This treats the 1917 meeting as their first encounter but later flashbacks show at least two previous ones. The patch is that Xavier introduces himself to Macleod here because he wants him to know who's going to kill him and thinks Macleod might not recognise him with the gas mask.

Fredrik Dunge Apparently not Catholic. No offense intended. The rule in the Catholic Church is that ANYTHING REVEALED in a confessional no matter what it is private, and cannot be revealed outside of it.
Good episode but I found it irritating and pretty morally dubious that Darius refused to help the inspector. By sharing vital information Darius could've prevented more deaths. MacLoed, not being religious himself, should've at least got annoyed by this but instead supported his position. This being said, helping the inspector risks him discovering Xavier is an immortal.
@@mayarosexxx Both Mac and Darius are both using the rule about confession to keep the police out of it. They don't want people to find out about immortals, they don't want the cop to get himself killed and most of all, Mac wants to take care of this himself without the police getting in his way.
