The life raft was in the center lazaret in the cockpit which you can also access from underneath the boat. So bring that Safety & Design score back up to 10.
Problem with that master cabin is head room. It's about 5' 6" which might be acceptable to some people but will be a major inconvenience for taller folks. I'd much rather have a standard master with at least 6' ceiling height. I could see myself always bumping my head in that master especially in the morning.
First impression of the first few minutes. I love the helm station for a lot of reasons but unlike some cats, you are not going to fall out of the seat onto the side deck and possibly overboard in rough seas. WONDERFULLY enclosed and protected helm. I am all about the safety (and comfort - If you are fighting to hold on during your watch you will wear out quickly.)
The Privilege Cat's are heavy and that is one of the reasons I like them.....comfort over speed any day. The Zatara Privilege is quite fast but that is due mostly to its longer waterline. For me, it is the sail, not the destination and a inside helm facing forward is a must have. You two are giving the best, most thoughtful reviews I have ever watched....thank you both!!
Do you mean internal navigation station facing forward? Forward helms are very rare and usually seen on high performance carbon cats like HH, Gunboat or Kinetic.
I scored it exactly the same as you in every category except value. I thought it was a bit of a good value. For the extreme high quality of everything, all the options, the giant master suite, size of the boat and more, I estimated it would be just over $2 mil. I was surprised when it came in just under that. Gets so much right except for the interior nav station. Aft facing isn't that bad, not great, but not bad, but if you are going to be back there and then want to turn and see where you are going, the fore facing windows are way too small. Over all though, that boat is built for passage. So many safety rails and items plus so well protected at the helm. Looks like it would work well in northern latitudes if you so desired. Might be the best one you have reviewed.
Glad you like the Privileges! Great boats. We’d love to get ourselves a new one but the old ones are still solid and fairly fast. We just got our 2006 P495 and love it!
Fantastic review! As far as price, something to consider for all: the better built quality the longer it last, other manufactures cheaper until you fully equip it to long range/liveaboard cruising, while this boat may be still slightly more, another factor to include is resale value, comfort is real key.
@14:00 In 2.5 years the base price has increased from $1.1 million to $1.8 million which is a 67% increase (this is more that 6 times higher than inflation during this time period).
Not long into the video, I couldn't help but think it wasn't for you. You both seem too practical (as am I) and the dedicated wine fridge was indicative of it being OTT. I was glad to see you admitted it was too posh for you!! Have you ever seen the St Francis 50? That is/was one boat that I was following with interest.
Nick This is a boat you buy used. 5 years old yields massive savings. I will buy this boat used rather than a new boat for the same price. It is the best in class. Will serve you well for many years. May I suggest you look at a used Privelege 585. For reference, you can follow "Sailing Zatara".
Great video, keep them coming! And please review the Balance 526 if you ever get the chance. Would love to know y'alls opinion on there "versa helm" design.
I saw that the footrest at the helm station was a solid shel rest instead of a bar. That's a big plus to my mind. I have been seeing the bar style foot rests and would be worried to get my foot caught or slip on it!
I think this review was very good. Yes stunning timber work, clearly for people who value finish. Cruising, there are other equally important aspects... I was impressed with the recessed fittings like cockpit hinges, contours around them, the bathroom fittings and locker door locks. Quality everywhere... You're right, if loto was a win, then of course...
Lovely catamaran great review, the Privilege seems to pass most criteria. Only thing is the length, the headroom and rear facing nav station, and off course the cost.
Perfect review. I agree with your opinion that a luxury and well built boat does not always represent some practicle desired features. I must add, again, that a slow boat looses points in the safety zone, as being faster you will spend less time when crossing oceans, therefore being less exposed to its risks.
We have the Privilege 445 yr 1999 and it has been very solid and safe even we had 38 knots wind at sea!! Want to renovate it and upgrade it after the video
This is the hybrid Series 5 Privilege looking at the throttle at the helm....perhaps explains why Privilege did not allow access to the engine bay. A look at the Series 5 with the Torqeedo Deep Blue solution would have been fantastic....seems they are stealthy about the project and are keeping quiet.... competitive reasons I guess??
Too new and prototype... It's more likely to be a Hodgepodge of off name Lithium, unkept wiring, and aftermarket Electric SailDrives that would turn off a buyer.
Perfect review! Not of a potential buyer who look to please the manufacturer but of a very fair customer! I’m waiting to see your review of an Catana and Bali. Love you both
Hello you two. This is my boat. Fire away, like warts on a beautiful woman, still love her. I'm buying a series 5 not a 515. Like my Mercedes S class diesel, not the quickest, but the journey is so very safe and comfortable. Cheers from Toronto
The review of these 2 catamaran are very well done, and the amount of work from the Privilege team is outstanding, they are making luxury catamaran with great materials, ie Corian, Leather, fine woodwork and excellent finishes and design all tailor made ! This is why it is more expansive, it 's about the weight and the displacement too. The french costs are related to the "artwork, material, design and time", hours spent to deliver the best product for luxury boat life. Comparing with a Neel 47 which is also made in France is another benchmark, opposite what you are saying.....So please take it into perspective. The premium brand bings in other values, like Outremer, they provide outstanding performance cats good quality design, and training, etc. The country of manufacturing is not all in the price (value for money) !
Yep, much better master cabin even if it doesn't wrap around like this one. At least there's ample headroom and an optional external access to the forward cabin area no other model has.
LOL. Nick, I'm a huge fan and your personal priorities for valuation are similar to my own. For this reason I urge you NOT to look at the Balance 526. If you're angry at a P5, that boat will make you apoplectic. This is, in my opinion the very best Catamaran review series on the internet. Thanks so much guys.
I saw a review of the Balance 526 on another channel and that thing was just stupidly beautiful! Beauty and performance in one package. That dual-position helm alone is drool worthy.
@@sashachip With the 'bespoke' boats, you almost 'have to' watch the other reviews just to get a clear idea of the customization that has been added for the specific boat you're on. You want carbon fibre standing rigging and a boom furling main? No problem. Self tacking jib? Sure. Rounded cabinet corners and extra kitchen storage? Of course! The thing I like about the 526 is the philosophy of it. They don't want to build the fastest boat whose performance will degrade when you load it down. They want to build a boat that you can carry all your stuff in, that will still have a lofty bridge deck clearance and do 200nm a day. I think they chose the trade-offs very wisely.
For me, best design is found at Fountain Pajot. I would choose the New 45 even if I could buy the Privilege Series 5 at the same price as FP, around 500,000 euro. My experience, not to much : RYA Day skipper, from Romania , almost the same age as Nick, chartering monohulls one or two weeks in the Greek Islands every summer. I understand that the build quality is not great but ..... Look at 'Out Chasing Star' Channel and their Helia 44, they made some reviews of it after sailing many miles. Terysa and Nick love your story, I have been watching you channel for the last couple of years. I hope you would find soon the catamaran that will make you fell in love with it. Thank you for making me part of your journey. I appreciate your courage and hard work in doing so. All the best from the Black Sea.
Considering the $20,000. cost of a generator and the price of 2 diesel engines, you can buy an amazing amount of solar and lithium. The price breakpoint is now in favor of electric boats, would be nice to see more venders offering this option from the start, rather than a ADD ON. REALLY Love your reviews, very well done and unbiased! CHEERS Steve h.
Howdy guys great work guys. Regarding workmanship, for those than think Asian workmanship isn’t up to par. There are great tradies in Asian countries it al depends on management policy and supervisors. You reviewed Seawind which showed top workmanship. Just because it says made in Taiwan doesn’t mean it’s necessarily crap.
Draft of 5'10" it should go to windward well. Sailing Zatara has a 58" Priv and it goes to wind as well as their monohull they had. How about an actual sailing test, in rough and calm.? Or is that coming when uve narrowed it down more? Look forward to the Outremer test
Here's another vote for your channel I just know it will push you closer to 25 million viewers. One point, is the life raft in one of one of the cabinets?
Fantastic boat and a great review! Thank you again for taking the time and effort to share this with us. I think your comments at the end are the best measure of value: “ if we had the money would we buy it?.......” I think it best to assume with any boat that you can afford it. Now..will you buy it? Only then do we really evaluate if the quality, customisation and French labour rates are worth it to us. Thanks again! Love what you guys are doing! SK in the UK
Just wondering - you comment about needing to keep the horizontal hatches shut in the Caribbean due to rain - but with 'wind chutes' would they not enhance the airflow while keeping the rain out and the genni off?
I sure hope you both get to review the Royal Cape Majestic 530. Not sure if it will be at the Annapolis Boat Show but it is a site to behold! Absolutely amazing and every option is included! Great review!!! UPDATE: Majestic 530 will be at the Annapolis Boat Show!!!
Love your reviews. Found the audio in this one a little off. That is a gorgeous yacht! But very well displays that even the nicest boats are compromises.
Great vid again guys. I really do like your reviews; nothing else around like these really. Perhaps you'd consider reviewing more boats, especially those that may be affordable to most of us viewers. Perhaps even a review of second-hand boats. Your experience and views would really be appreciated i'm sure. Best of luck to your search for a new home! Safe waters. x
Awesome boat reviews. Every one of them has been very well done. I particularly enjoyed your review of the Seawind 1600 as that has been a boat I have been very interested in seeing. I can't wait to see how you review the Balance 526. It is rather pricey as well, but Phil Berman is a world class sailor and his designs are amazing. When Phil walks through his boats on his videos, he reminds me very much of how Nick evaluates and explains the reasons for the design, how it applies to actual passage making, functionality, etc. The Balance strikes me as a very high end passage maker with real chops, less posh and more real practical design. Keep up the fantastic work with your reviews and sailing channel.
I’d take a long hard look at that bridge deck clearance/slap issue before committing to buy that boat. Having the ocean crashing into the boat beneath your bunk would render that beautiful owners cabin useless, at least it would for me. Another thorough and thoughtful review - nice job 👍
What exactly was the comment? All Privilège are Marc Lombard designs, so cruisers who have anything less than fantastically balanced and easy steering at all points of sailing should pay some attention to their sail trimming, assuming no mechanical issues, clean hull, etc. If they don't care about sail trimming, which is obviously their prerogative, then they'll likely have more weather helm than they'd like.
HO in all honesty I don’t recall the exact details, but it came from a 16 year old girl if that helps put it into perspective. They may have also been motoring in a marina.
Great Video.I looked at this Cat a month ago and really liked it. I think the Build quality was up there with Your boat or a Hallberg Rassy or a Discovery Yacht. That being said I really like the Bluewater 50 inside and out. I went out for a sail in san Diego after your review on a Seawind 1260 and really liked that a lot also and the protective aspect of the cockpit. Cant wait to see what you end up getting. I Would give this a 8 out of ten but its way over the top Budget wise.
: I enjoyed the video very much. Personally I think your evaluation of the boat was spot on. No matter how beautiful the boat 2 factors in my mind a very important. That is good ventilation and practicality while underway.
Beautiful boat indeed - so well finished. Bit dated looking though vis a vis the limited views and the sloping cabin. Apart from the master the beds look really small too - hardly a double. Nick said they were big and heavy and probably slow but Wiley Sharpe did a review on one and stated the owner had topped 17 knots crossing the Atlantic (not surfing). Relatively cheap too at 899k USD - don't think it sold. Great channel guys. Fair winds from NS.
Totally agree on the ventilation; AC is all very fine but it can limit intake of fresh air. Also, although it’s the owner’s taste, black and other dark interior finishes don’t belong in a boat. Otherwise, very high quality - and price, thanks to EU labour costs. ⛵️🇨🇦
Great video, sometimes you don't have to carry everything with you when you're going sailing, all the comforts of home that is. It makes the boat a camper on the sea I would want a boat that had more performance. I like your channel, I'm more of a mono-hull person but I'm coming around to a performance catamaran.
I'm circling back around to watch this again, and will probably come back a couple more times before I settle on a hull. I would love an xquisite but being that every new hull is sold till 2023! I may have to go with a used Privilege instead!
I would like to see your review of your favorite model on the Bali line, perhaps one with forward facing nav station. It's chartery, and would need many additions for blue water, but at that base price, it seems still a good value. I love those boats, but the possible deal-breaker is the blessing and curse of the flybridge, depending on the model. Great review series!
Great review. Good to see privilege gone from high gloss varnish. As to ventilation, wouldn’t all yachts with hatches fall into same, can’t keep open at night scenario? Nic yacht but high price. Great to see full elec coming along, was it a hybrid? Generator?
Another informative comprehensive review! I hope you do a review of Balance 526 or 482. The 526 can be built with a fixed keel or dagger boards if the owner desires. The Balance 482 cost ($980,000 dagger boards only) a good deal less than the 526 ($1,440,000) and may be more is the range with your budget? I look forward to more of your videos.
I have been hoping for a balance 526 review. By far the best laid out, and my favorite catamaran I have ever found. I cannot wait to see it in person this year in Annapolis.
What put this off for me and my partner when we checked her out ourselves was height above the bed. I like that, and she really likes that(!). I wonder if they can lose the storage and lower the bed to the floor?
@9:13 They are both short & still Nik had to duck very low accessing the bed so the space must be very short. I’m 6’4” (193cm) I would have to get on my knees & crawl to get in out of bed.
Another great review. It's an amazing catamaran but definitely one of the more expensive ones. Would you guys consider reviewing the Royal Cape Majestic 530?
Well just got back from looking at a few boats and I kept harping on "Ventilation this and ventilation that", finally my wife said what the hell is up with all the ventilation crap.....Thanks Terysa!
The lack of internal nav station is, inho, compensate with a great outside one! It has everything, with a bunk behind a steering wheel. The 18,8 tons of weight may be compared with a same weight of a monohull: this cat has twice the surface but also cost nearly twice as much. It’s a great cruising vessel, not a racing cat.
Great job on the review.., again! You two are building quite a top notch set of reviews here to rival most anyone out there. I’ve followed these Privilege boats for years, they are amazing and absolutely beautiful, but I’ve got to say I think the lack of visibility from the salon/main interior would be a deal breaker. Why? Plain and simple I love the expansive view from the other boats like especially the Lagoon, and not just from a night watch or Navigator’s point of view. You’re likely sailing to beautiful places, so why once again put yourself back in a boat hole where you feel you have to work at seeing out. ...and frankly, I’m surprised at that. Why can’t these be big expansive windows? Who dislikes that? I venture to guess too some who buy this expensive boat may not be sailing it themselves all the time. Then second there’s the price of this boat and that situation. How many will be having to exercise caution with air cond usage while on anchor? I say it’s not super likely this boat will spend lots of days at anchor or on a ball. It’ll be plugged in most days, I’d guess, but then I’m the sort who hates using air when in any other good configuration I could be having a nice breeze come thru the salon. Cheers you two. Superb Job! 👏👌 💚
I've watched so many of your videos - and this is my all time favorite - would you please tell me more of your thoughts about that master spanning the full width of the boat - do you think it'd be comfortable to place the bed there? We love the size, but strategically would you get more seasick. Please keep in mind we'd only be sleeping while at rest, not while traveling. Mahalo for your thoughts
Wow! Nice to see what is possible when the money flows with abandon. 60% bump from Base to to Fully spec’ed though, yikes. Is that checking every option or are you outfitting to the same standard across all of the reviews? Anyway, nicely done as usual!
I too really enjoy your real life video presentation. If 58' is too big and luxurious, maybe the Series 4. As for performance check out Zatara ( Privilege 585) and their experience. I have been quite surprised at some of their performance experience. Also like the Balances, Majestic and especially the Antares GS.
nice boat - but for me the front runner from all reviewed thus far (which before this I wouldn't have picked) is the Seawind 1600. That and of course the Antares - which we will see in Annapolis
beautiful boat, thank you for the tours of the two different layouts! my thoughts 1) master cabin is a no starter for me. sorry, but im tall and despite how others may live we DO spend a lot of time in there. 2) no engine bay review? just a thought... that MIGHT be important someday... and 3) i definately got the sense that Nick felt somewhat how i did: nice but i'd never buy one its too expensive.
@@joseblades6876 I would say well above 1 million before extras, based for Lagoon 50 pricetag similiar size. It is certainly slightly more higher quality catamaran compared for most production yachts when it comes to materials used.
Loving the reviews of the boats. One thing i would be interested in, if i were in the market, what is the support from builder like. Maybe could talk to sailors, not builders, about the support. Otherwise enjoying the series
The issue here is that so many brands outsource completely to brokers. So 100% of support is through the broker. This means that you are at the mercy of the broker for after sales care.
for that price id buy a 2016-17 leopard 48 keep it in the med and a lighter fountaine 46 or older outremer and keep it in the Bahamas. unfortunately theres no boat that can do it all, so you just need to figure out what you can live with which is no easy task since that changes with my mood.
Nick really had me LOL when he was talking about the air condition in the bedroom.
He sure has a temper!!!!!

The look of sheer joy on Nick's face when you opened the door to the master cabin, lol!

The life raft was in the center lazaret in the cockpit which you can also access from underneath the boat. So bring that Safety & Design score back up to 10.
Having so much fun window shopping for a boat with these videos!! Please show more of the interior layouts, it’s nice to see the living areas :)

Ah my friend, when you get a good squall passing though out there, a wind chute will be as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike
@@sailingrubyrose ok, makes sense... thanks for the reply!
Have you seen any Island Spirit catamarans ? Sailing Doodles sailed on some different models while they were in Thailand and they were interesting.
Love your reviews. Found the audio in this one a little off. That is a gorgeous yacht! But very well displays that even the nicest boats are compromises.
Camping or Glamping........Cruising or Gruising. Beautiful boat but seriously high maintenance . Nice vlog guys👍👍
Like the review - would love to hear your views or review on the Broadblue Rapier 550.
Terysa as the voice of reason..Nick has been struck by the BLING factor. Don't blame you...she us a beaut!
A fantastic review of this lovely cat - had been looking forward to your canal adventures all week tho!!!
I watch Sailing Zatara and I recall the eldest daughter making a wonderfully irreverent comment about how well the boat handled. It's no sports car.
@@jgt_ Depressingly that's pretty much every young famous person these days
Great video and review (yet again). I question; What else would/could you get for that kinda money?
It is a semi-custom boat. A buyer should be able to add as many ports as desired. I know, costs money.
Would the St. Francis 50 be a more affordable alternative?
These cat reviews have been very interesting. I like your rating system and fair comments.
I just loved Nick’s facial expression on this review, “how come I can’t afford this, this is exactly what I want and I even like the color.”
So are you guys looking to buy new or used? Love these reviews! Very fun to see all of them. You just answered my question as I was typing this!
Are you going to be reviewing the Exquisit X5?
This is my favorite,or all you have reviewed,💙💚💛💜👍👍👍👍
I would like to see your review of your favorite model on the Bali line, perhaps one with forward facing nav station. It's chartery, and would need many additions for blue water, but at that base price, it seems still a good value. I love those boats, but the possible deal-breaker is the blessing and curse of the flybridge, depending on the model. Great review series!
I have loved all your reviews. Keep them coming.
Your knowledge, expertise, attention to detail and thoughtfulness is wonderful. Thank you for the videos. :)
Great video -- you two are so easy and natural to watch. I used to watch Sailing Zatarah until he did his gun crap like a big mountain man.
I wonder if they can lose the storage and lower the bed to the floor?
absolutely love the privilege series and would be the one if one can afford it
@9:13 They are both short & still Nik had to duck very low accessing the bed so the space must be very short. I’m 6’4” (193cm) I would have to get on my knees & crawl to get in out of bed.
Another great review. It's an amazing catamaran but definitely one of the more expensive ones. Would you guys consider reviewing the Royal Cape Majestic 530?
If we see one, we’ll review it my friend.
Why no access to the engines...it's a boat show, right?
I somehow think that there are a lawn mower engine down there, LOL
Well just got back from looking at a few boats and I kept harping on "Ventilation this and ventilation that", finally my wife said what the hell is up with all the ventilation crap.....Thanks Terysa!
She’ll thank me! 😂
My favourite boat so far... money notwithstanding.
Another fantastic review...I am getting excited to see what boat you choose :)
Still no idea my friend
Superb Job! 👏👌 💚
Love your reviews. This one looked like a lovely houseboat.
The options lists aren’t like other manufacturers. They seem to say yes to your requests no matter what. That pushes the price up a lot.
I too really enjoy your real life video presentation. If 58' is too big and luxurious, maybe the Series 4. As for performance check out Zatara ( Privilege 585) and their experience. I have been quite surprised at some of their performance experience. Also like the Balances, Majestic and especially the Antares GS.
the lack of headroom in the master cabin is a real problem for me
nice boat - but for me the front runner from all reviewed thus far (which before this I wouldn't have picked) is the Seawind 1600. That and of course the Antares - which we will see in Annapolis
but, if you look about they requirements they looking for floating house...
so Privilege and Lagoon family are best choice for now
hi, when will the catamaran outremer test be? thank.
2 weeks my friend. 1 week on Patreon.
Thanks brother
Great Review! Thank you
beautiful boat, thank you for the tours of the two different layouts! my thoughts 1) master cabin is a no starter for me. sorry, but im tall and despite how others may live we DO spend a lot of time in there. 2) no engine bay review? just a thought... that MIGHT be important someday... and 3) i definately got the sense that Nick felt somewhat how i did: nice but i'd never buy one its too expensive.
"Sailing Zatara" brought me here!
Welcome my friend
Ditto 👍
@@joseblades6876 I would say well above 1 million before extras, based for Lagoon 50 pricetag similiar size. It is certainly slightly more higher quality catamaran compared for most production yachts when it comes to materials used.
You referred to your monohull in the past tense. Have you sold Ruby Rose?
No my friend, we still have the beautiful girl
Very good review, i hope you get the chance of reviewing a New Sunreef 50 too
Loving the reviews of the boats.
That interior is bigger than a normal 2 bedroom apartment. What is the time frame if you were to order a boat built to your specifications?
Great stuff again guys, thanks.
for that price id buy a 2016-17 leopard 48 keep it in the med and a lighter fountaine 46 or older outremer and keep it in the Bahamas. unfortunately theres no boat that can do it all, so you just need to figure out what you can live with which is no easy task since that changes with my mood.
Hopefully you'll be able to review an Xquisite AND a MAVERICK at some point....would enjoy hearing your thoughts/opinions of course! :-)
What software did you use for the review? Great work btw
Love that front cabin
