I have this PRL kit for a year now and it's been nothing but great! Haven't had a single issue other then a map sensor failing. It drives so smooth like a stock car until that wastegate opens up on boost.
Heck I'd be pretty damn happy with 300whp in a civic, perfectly reliable and with how light these cars are they're not the fastest but God damn do they feel like slingshots
I love the design style and body work on these i have the same civic black, only not Si, manuel and no turbo should have know Si was the racecar but these coupes are so aggressive looking nice build on this one
Thanks for all the great content you've been posting! Really enjoyed this video in particular, as it's a reasonable build that many people could do themselves, and looks like a fantastic result. At some point you mentioned that 4 port boost controllers are hard to control, but they shouldn't also let you run less than waste gate pressure in the lower gears and tame some of that wheel spin? That in combination with Hondata Traction Control could really help get the power to the road; I think a video on that kind of system would be very interesting. I also think it would be interesting to talk about the transient response of this turbo, and maybe show the time to boost from various loads and RPMs in the data logs?
I pieced a turbo kit together for my 11 si built my own manifold drove for a while turbo took a crap so I went back to stock until I upgrade got a nice 60 62 with billet wheel and fixing to get a 1320 manifold soon miss the boost!
I'd go with Clutch Masters 10 out of 10 ten times instead of Comp. Clutch. I've had Comp. Clutch fail twice with pressure plate failure. Never had an issue of OEM clutch or Clutch Master going bad like that.
i would say about 7-8k if you kept the engine and trans stock. Keep in mind you're gonna spend much more than the initial build cost, at least i did.. stuff breaks sometimes. Ive put probably 15k+ into mine over a couple years with engine rebuilds and transmission rebuilds and many other little things.
Dont do a comp clutch stage 2. Please dear lord. I also live in a climate that gets cold..and drive my DC5 in that weather. Any time I did a pull in any gear when the temp is sub 40°F it's a coin flip. I'm insane about letting my car warm up completely. Engine, trans, diff. Didn't matter. The clutch disc itself is a brittle POS. I went through 3. Yes, three Comp Stg 2s. They're newer build date stg 2s have a major major casting flaw. The metal on the clutch disc that retains the springs breaks in no time at all. 3 Clutches, a total of 2200 miles and all 3 failed the same way. That was also on a whopping bolt on K20A. So I went to an UNsprung Comp Stahe 4. The rivets broke on the clutch disc after less than 1000 miles. 500 were following their break in procedure to make sure I'd have warranty coverage. I finally took the financial loos and went with a Clutchmasters FX400 and have 5500 miles on a similar setup to you. Humble Racing Kit with a 6266. 440whp. It drives as well or better than the Comp Clutch did as well. *I'll openly admit that when they're working the Comp drives very well* Take a look at some more recent posts in the K series/Si/DC5 groups regarding the Comp S2, they've gone way downhill and it's sad when it was the go to for almost any K20/24 setup short of the built motor stuff. Seems like a major lack off staffing created some quality control issues to say the least. I'd hate to see you experience a similar situation.
Comp. Clutch just doesn't make good product anymore, if ever. Had two CC kit to bad with the pressure failing on both of them. Clutch Masters is head and shoulders above anything CC puts out in terms of quality and reliability.
You might want to look into the clutchmasters fx400 instead of the cc clutches unless you are going twin disc the durability on them are not all that great at the end of the day
It’s the torque it can’t hold. It usually caps around 240-260wtq. Some hold even more. It’s all over the place tbh but for the most part it’s the torque. I’ve been able to hold 250whp/300wtq on mine.
You say if you can afford to just go turbo. If you had to guess how much would it cost overall for a shop to supply the parts and turbo your 8th gen? 8k? 10k?

Hello got to your vid’s searching for turbo kits for my 06 si. I loved that PRL got you other parts as well. But to my surprise I don’t think they make kits for the 06 anymore. Is there any other companies you recommend?
Have you had to do any maintenance to the timing set? VTC gear, chains, VTC solenoid, tensioner, ect? I have an 08 FA5... it's got some km's on it now but runs great still...
My TCT just went out on my 08 fg2 277k kms, noticed it after a dry start after an oil change. The chain rattles under load at 3k rpm & I've also had that cold start chain rattle from a bad vtc cam gear for about 4 years now.
Not necessarily man, if compression and leak down are still in check, send it! You can definitely daily it. The kit is literally like oem fitment haha.
I have this PRL kit for a year now and it's been nothing but great! Haven't had a single issue other then a map sensor failing. It drives so smooth like a stock car until that wastegate opens up on boost.
I’m thinking of getting this kit, hopefully there’s a Black Friday sale. Where did you buy your kit? What type turbo did you get as well?

*I totally agree with you Nick, around the 400whp is so streetable in a 8th gen Civic. Getting hung up on bigger numbers isn’t everything*
Exactly. The car just becomes useless for all the things civics are good at. Only going straight isn’t all that fun
Bit of a late response, but that's what boost by gear is for. You can do low boost 1/2, 3/4 let her rip
PRL kit owner for the past 6 years & it's still doing work! Best turbo kit out there.
Nice! What type turbo do you have?

Awesome video. Excellent work once again, Nick.

Piece it together or get a eBay kit with a better turbine 🐌
Love your videos. Especially how you explain things like the clutch slipping. Very informative
I'd recommend a clutchmaster fx400. I personally on it with my prl kit and it's like stock.
Not many clean 8th gems left in Ontario but hoping to pick one up soon and this kit will be on my wishlist

$4k if you buy all the right parts

awesome video! cant wait to turbo my 07 :)
Exedy make really good clutched as well, I had Stage 1, on Stage 2 now but that one held up for forever. They do chatter a bit though
The new Exedy Cerametallic ones catch my eye. They are supposed to be easy to drive even for a twin disc and the chatter isn’t to bad
That's cleaaan
Is that exhaust pretty restrictive? I love the idea of a full exhaust with a nice and quiet vibrant muffler and resonator on turbo applications
Of course it’s really restrictive.
Look into 8th Q300! Such a good exhaust!
that exhaust sounds really good, i feel like my thermal r&d (full race) 3in catback is way quieter. Gtx3071r though so maybe thats why.
You might want to look into the clutchmasters fx400 instead of the cc clutches unless you are going twin disc the durability on them are not all that great at the end of the day
I love the sound of the Turbo while the Motor is revving. Amazing! Do you think you could road trip the car still? @Tunedbynick
