If you ever feel sad, just think that Earth is million years old and somehow you managed to live in a period where you can listen to this masterpiece every time you want.
Earth is not millions of years old. In fact earth is about 7000 years old. That’s a fact. The age of the earth according to science was determined by using carbon dating as well as layering in soil as well as assumptions on the creation and time needed to fossilise certain things like for example oil or the “creation” of diamonds. Carbon dating is inherently flawed because in order for it to work you need certain conditions that cannot change. As science has no way of knowing what the atmosphere was like even 200 years ago, the decay of neutrons is immeasurable in the same way. Anyway, done get lied to!
@@AK-dw8jo and we can make some judgements on earths atmosphere due to fossils, and general knowledge of how the earth formed of up to 2million years ago
Fifty years ago today (8th November 1971) Stairway to Heaven was released and 50-years on, it remains still one of the greatest rock songs ever released. Here's to Led Zeppelin on this special day
My father passed away three days ago, it was the first song he saw me playing when I was kid, today I'm playing this song in front of our old house and hoping that his soul is here with me listening too.
I hadn't caught up with Zep, yet, unfortunately, or I coulda been there. A HS friend finally played "Whole Lotta Love" for me in '77, when most of my musical mind was on sex, drugs, and dancing at Studio 54 to Donna Summer between sitting inside the massive woofers on the dance floor in the days of cocaine and quaaludes, seriously in love with dance expression, and, being 16, newly 6'2", and not bad looking, having a ton of fun (and a WHOLE lotta love :) ), but not exactly the right place to hear Zep. ;) :D
Howard Stern was there. Back when Metallica did S&M at MSG he said that that was the best show he had ever seen second only to this one in ‘73. I was at S&M. Unfortunately they’d have to create a time machine for me to go back in time to see this.
I am only 16 years old but despite the hindrance of generations, I can still admire their music. I listen to Led Zeppelin every week for about 2 hours and it fills me with happiness and hope.

Sad to hear you son's untimely death its a great memory to have a song like this at your son's final journey. Not too people can remember what Hymns or Songs where played at the close relatives final journal but that song is a nice memory especially when you play it
I think it's one of the two best solos of all time but he has better performances than this, he looks coked out of his fucking mind lol and it's so out of time for parts
Page cheats though, he overdubbed every performance he ever on this did to remove the sloppy notes, watch him solo and it’s not even the same part of the neck as the sound the guitar is making
@@christopherchuauhang4829 Highly doubt there was any studio correction (in terms of autotune, or pitch-correction - not things like equalization, etc., which of course they did), and everything looks perfectly in sync (so in terms of potential overdubs).
Solo? What solo? You mean the instrumental part. "If you listen very hard", this is a brilliant symbiosis of guitar, drums, bass and keyboard. Without wanting to devalue Jimmy's performance, but only all together created these unforgettable 3 minutes.
@@udooffermann9783 the iconic guitar solo at 6:40 that is one of the if not the best parts of the song. though the drums and bass accompany it its definitely the solo that the commenter and many people appreciate

Those who talk about Page's guitar and solo are right, they are incredible. But imagine this song without Plant's voice! Impossible! The voice creates the mystique, it is unique
The only vocal performance that ever did this song justice other than Robert Plant himself was Ann Wilson at the award ceremony for Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center 2012
@crixus2871 that’s why God created opinions. Of course Robert is king having written the lyrics and sang the original. Nothing can ever beat the original. I don’t care if someone plays Eddie Van Halen‘s eruption than him. Still second place at best… but Ann at Kennedy is a hell of a second place. Says enough to me that I’ve listened to it about 200 times already and come to think of it haven’t listen to original stairway more than twice in that time. Of course, I’m catching up with the 25,000 times I’ve listened to the original stairway, but nevertheless. Ann definitely comes pretty damn close especially in context of the overall experience of living Led watching her, all the layers that are added in sequence from strings to microphone choir to horns to full force army choir - all with Bonham’s bowler cap on, come on man.
@@DrTomMD the whole performance is great but well tbh Ann is no where near Robert though... I agreed that she's the best female cover. But she's like 1 on the scale when compared to Robert 100.
When the world is falling apart, there's Led Zeppelin reminding us that art and beauty still exist. I'll be here in the 70's rockin' out when catastrophe hits.
My Dad was a massive music fan and we grew up listening to all the great bands coming out of the UK and USA and in his final weeks we played literally every song we could think of for him to listen to. One morning we all remembered we haven't played him Stairway to Heaven and just as Robert Plant sings the first line, Dad draws his final breath. Almost like he had waited for us to play it.
@@ultimatesin3544 You can say the same exact thing about rap though. When was the last time you saw an ugly woman in a rapper's music video? They've all got big asses and tits so big you can feel their gravity. However, I agree that people are more willing to get outraged at white people for doing the exact same things that black people do. I think the problem is that young kids aren't really inspired to play instruments anymore, as the majority of popular music nowadays is either electronic or just singing to a shitty tune. That, and the fact that record labels are more hesitant to sign instrumentalists nowadays. They prefer to play it safe.
I was fortunate enough to see them live the night of April 12, 1977 in Bloomington MN. They were extremely late getting in that evening from Chicago due to weather and the crowd was getting restless. No warm up band of course and they played a full 3 hour set. Just an amazing point in time to be alive.

LYRICS There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to Heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the West And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Ohh, whoa Your head is humming, and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one, and one is all To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
I suppose it’s rather simple, really? Having a deeper understanding of life before it’s your time, before most of us “get it”. However, that’s nothing more than an opinion, and like assholes, we all have opinions. 😉
Disagree. It’s obviously off tempo if you have half an ear to hear. Rob tries to make it work in the beginning but it definitely takes a while for it to come together. The definitive version is definitely the studio recording.
@@samislegend89Thank you! Live versions have their charm, and rarely they are the definitive version, but this is not one of those cases. Bob Seger and The Who are the kings of “live is the definitive version” in my opinion.

If you ever feel sad, just think that Earth is million years old and somehow you managed to live in a period where you can listen to this masterpiece every time you want.
Поддерживаю друже.

Fifty years ago today (8th November 1971) Stairway to Heaven was released and 50-years on, it remains still one of the greatest rock songs ever released. Here's to Led Zeppelin on this special day
It's only a tad older than me(4-20-72).
How beautiful
I was just thinking about this… I remember when I used to think Zeppelin was a band from 30 years ago… Now it’s 50 already…

Mozart's "Kleine Nachtmusik" was completed 234 (!) Years ago and the song is still known today. It will be the same with "Stairway to Heaven".
Jimmy looks like he goes into another world when he is playing that solo.
Yeah, he is too high for this world 😂
trust me he’s already in that world🤣🤣
He certainly was not on this planet...
He wrote the lyrics... Maybe it's a personal message?
Sorry, I was talking about Robert Plant... Jimmy and him made a masterpiece... They transport us in their sublime interpretation...
My father passed away three days ago, it was the first song he saw me playing when I was kid, today I'm playing this song in front of our old house and hoping that his soul is here with me listening too.
The people at this concert were the luckiest in the world.

LYRICS
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven
There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get when I look to the West
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Ohh, whoa
Your head is humming, and it won't go, in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one, and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
Plant and Page were 22 and 26 years old respectively when they wrote this.
Let that sink in for a moment.
thats fucking crazy. I also cannot figure out how Axl Rose wrote November Rain, with virtually no education. It's a gift
I suppose it’s rather simple, really? Having a deeper understanding of life before it’s your time, before most of us “get it”. However, that’s nothing more than an opinion, and like assholes, we all have opinions. 😉
Goodamn you make me feel like garbage 😁
Well Jimmy Page fucked a 14 year old when he was in his 20s as well so swings and roundabouts I guess
Lachlan Jansen Alright, so stairway to heaven is average
Holy shit you're stupid
This is THE definitive version of Stairway. Absolutely flawless.
Disagree. It’s obviously off tempo if you have half an ear to hear. Rob tries to make it work in the beginning but it definitely takes a while for it to come together. The definitive version is definitely the studio recording.
Actually the Earls Court performance in 1975 is perfect. It's super tight.
@@samislegend89Thank you! Live versions have their charm, and rarely they are the definitive version, but this is not one of those cases. Bob Seger and The Who are the kings of “live is the definitive version” in my opinion.
@@samislegend89 Thank you. Finally someone says it. This is off tempo and it sounds like they have no idea what they're doing.
@@jskypercussionwhere is this? Maddison sq garden?
Robert Plant's voice is like the striking light from Zeus. Jesus. Page is a magical Sorcerer on the guitar. While Bonham is The Hulk on the drums. Jones is a Beast on the bass and keyboard. I'm so grateful for this band.
Sabbath was my band to go with after starting out with Zeppelin.
But without a doubt, Zeppelin was the most talented band ever assembled, by far.
Yes. Where is this magic now? Simon Cowell just doesn't know what X Factor means.
For where two or three gather together in my name the piper is their in the midst of them.

Makes me WONDER!😁🎶🎶🎶🕊🕊❤❤🌎🌎🖖
You sound demonically possessed.
You can listen to Stairway to Heaven a million times,it remains a unique, inimitable, wonderful song, until my end.
Totally agree legend

It has to be this version LIVE!
My late Wife loved them, period, no other band.. sail on (Nancy). Lol.
@@williampayne5584 Dear William. I'm Sorry for tour wife, She Is definitly in Heaven. A hug from Italy.
What a privilege to still listen to this legendary song after 52 years. A half century and no song will beat this one even for a millennium
It can never be beat
Agree
it took 4 years for kashmir to beat it...
It’s certainly up there… Pink Floyds Comfortably Numb would equal it!

“All the stores are closed”
Never been more true lyrics
Hahahha
Yeah but those were simpler times. Today everything is chaos.
I think Turner may have just topped that: “No one’s on the streets, We moved it online as of March
Sonzera...do meu tempo...uma das maravilhas da humanidade....
The correct lyric: If the stores are all closed,
The best live version of stairway to heaven.
They play as if this is the last day in the history of mankind.
really man. they are as if celebrating the last day of mankind.
This comment is beautiful
Right now I play this mix for my mother, as it is that I had earlier this morning, again realized with joyous revival, the fact that it is the end.
My bay . My daughter told me - because she knows this is my favorite song of all time - that when I'm gone - she will get a tattoo on her heart " Stairway to heaven " just for me . I can now die a happy man :)
