i live here too and it's really bad that my Kid's will never be able to own a home here because of out of sight prices. Lucky for them i own a home that I built just for them and will pass it on to them. I built the home in 2005 when real property prices were in line and affordable. I live in Ocean View and i built my redwood cedar custom two bedroom home on an acre. My 12 sided main room and 8 sided second bedroom ( 265 square foot) make up to two main rooms for my 2 bedroom 2 bath home. In your ad you didn't get down our way, why? I tell everyone I talk to about this area and it's the best place to retire. Kona has traffic problems and too many people in a small area and way to expensive. I bought a home in Holualoa in 2000 for $199,000.00 and I left in 2009 after I got my final and never looked back. Both of my kid's were born in Hilo and at that time I was general sales manager for 3 radio stations operating out of Hilo. My Mom was a DeMello and was boen and raised in Hilo and worked at the old Hilo hospital as a nurse. I was born in 1939 in California and have lived here for 50 years, I'm 83 and 84 is real close.😅

Aloha James! Appreciate the view and your comments. It's always good to hear from those who have lived here on the Big Island over several decades, and in several areas. The Ka'u District is certainly far more affordable than Kona, and the area is rich in tradition and history. Hard to tell what the future of home prices will be, but one thing is for certain, if you can buy or build a home in Hawaii any time is a good time. 😉🤙

This is my first time commenting on TH-cam and I've been watching TH-cam since it's been out. Just wanted to pause and say that the use of Google Earth in this video was genius! This helps those people like me that are visual learners. Also, your knowledge of the material for this video must have taken a long time to prepare and make rehearse. Ive never made any videos on TH-cam, but I've taken a Speech class in college and can see how much work you really put into this video. Thank you, I honestly enjoyed it and I have a pretty short attention span. I wish TH-cam did the 5 -star method for videos. It would be really helpful for both content creator and the audience. Sir, for you I give 5-stars! P.s. TH-cam, good selection on free movies on here. 4 stars. #LetsStartRatingVideosByThe5-StarMethod

I been living on Oahu for like 11 years now and I'm considering moving to the Big Island. I've only been to the Big Island twice and it was for the mandatory training that the U.S. Army has for soldiers who are about to deploy. The training is located on the volcano in high elevation. You can get there by simply taking a left out of the airport and driving straight for hours. I remember freezing every night on that side of the island (guess that was the point so that the soldiers can get mentally and physically ready to deploy. I've never been so cold and then so hot in a 24-hour span. I guess that why they call it the desert weather) Oahu is getting pricier and has a lot more foot traffic so to speak. Your video really got me a great start on research as well as saved me a lot of time. Thank you for sharing. @@livinginkonahawaii

I live in Ocean View and have been here for 16 years, built a custom cedar redwood home on an acre, very affordable and not far from everything. He covers all the expensive parts
of this Island. Ocean View lots are very affordable all are on an acre. You are on catchment here but power and good roads are everywhere. Nice people and very low crime. Good shopping, small country center with post office, shops and food. I love it and have been on the big Island 50 years, I'm 84 now.

@@livinginkonahawaii i was at the kona airport in 06 when there was a 6.9. It almost knocked me to the ground. There was another a couple years ago 6.1 i believe. I was sitting down in my house in waikoloa village which was post and pier and got seasick by the swaying. That is even after adding bolts and steel reinforcements to my beams underneath. There are no active slip faults there but there is settling of the whole island into the sea floor which can cause substantial earthquakes

There's no doubt that homes in Kona are feeling the effects of the steep increases in home equity that we've seen since the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Before the days of all of these mega resorts, my God father a real estate broker T. Perry there on the big island offered me a house there it was a VA assumable, it was a newly built never lived in 2 or 3 bedroom house with a drive through drive way, half court Basket ball court, a tennis court it also had solar power with a rock inlayed fish pond bigger than a swimming pool that bordered the drive driveway I asked what the hell is that next to the driveway, a swimming pool, he said no it's a fish pond, with a stroke of a pen with no $$$ down the house would have been mine, I would just have needed to be able to make the mortgage payments, problem though I was senior still in high school on the main land, San Jose Ca. So to say at the age of 18, I simply was not ready to take on the responsibilities of becoming a home owner.

Why nothing about the neighborhoods situated above Kailua-Kona? Those are the true jewels of the Kona Region, especially for those of us who want a slower, down to Aina Lifestyle.

Actually,,, there's good AND there's bad,, among all 5 populated islands of Hawaii,,, (Kauai,, Oahu,, Molokai,, Maui,, and the Big Island). You REALLY need to do a composite analysis/(rating) and decide just WHICH of the 5 islands,,, has the (uh hum) lesser of all Evils for you. In other words,,, some individuals ARE better fit for the Big Island. Some individuals are a better fit for Kauai,, some a better fir for Oahu,,, some a better fit for MoloKai,, and some a better fit for Maui. Now in regards to the Big Island,,, certain spots are great,, while certain spots (ummm) NOT so great. Likewise regarding Kauai,,, certain spots are great,, while certain spots (ummm) NOT so great (and likewise regarding Oahu,, Molokai and Maui). If you're in need of keen medical care,, you're probably best off on either Oahu,,, or on the Big Island (not so much on the other islands). If you're in need in the lowest crime rate possible,, you're best off on either Kauai,,, or maybe Maui. Well anyway,,, so there you go.

    • @livinginkonahawaii

Couldn't agree more Stephen! These 5 areas happen to be my personal favorite places to live on the Big Island of Hawaii after living here for 26 years. There is something for everyone here, it's just a matter of what you are looking for in Hawaii. Mahalo for the views and comments! 😎🤙
