I have just built a new flight sim pc and I used your guide as a starting point for my overall settings. Your video was very concise and gave the justification for your settings based upon experience, software and hardware. The 27 or so minutes was time well spent, and learning, to make an informed choice on a setting selection with the hardware/software and within the sim settings. Thank you for sharing this with the community!
Thank u Q8. As usual, your videos are spot on not only on quality of content but on the topics. Well covered guide. Some people don't understand that there are many different pc configurations out there and it would be almost impossible for a single person to cover everyone's specs. Q8 explains in this guide what each function does, and how it works for his specs, the actual number on settings should still be experimented by the user to achieve their best settings. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your content. Keep u the great work my friend.
Thank you for your kind words and for really explaining what this guide is all about. I could not have said better myself. Appreciate your support always!

I just wanted to say that your guide to improve the settings has been a godsend, I went through your video last night step by step and adjusted them accordingly. The results are astounding when compared to how I had them before. Thank you so very much for taking the time to put this all together as I could never get the look and the performance to balance out with such spectacular results. Thank you and keep up the great work. Love your channel!
That Power setting to high performance made a big difference for me. Also turning on Game Mode. I don’t have hardly any stutters anymore. Thanks for the video and tips
Loved this and managed to get from 32 FPS to 43 FPS using your tips. Then I did something that pushed my FPS up to 54 FPS with Ultra settings and live heavy cloudy weather and up to 67 FPS with clear skies. I renamed my community folder and created a new one. Popped a couple of liveries in for the default planes (Premium edition) and wow what a difference flying at that level of performance. I had a very full community folder with 3rd party aircraft, Mods, airports etc., now when I want my community folder back I just rename it back but with a slimmed down version. I have an i9, 2080 Super 32GB Ram.
Amazing content and very good tutorial. I had some of the settings made about a year ago which I think was causing performance issues, but your video cleared it all up and MSFS setup is looking brand new. Thanks for educating the flight sim community on the technicalities! Appreciate it very much and hope you continue to do such videos after major Sim updates, especially with changes coming through on DX11 and DX12. Thank you!
New Subscriber here. I basically built my gaming PC just for the release of this title. I have done at least two core upgrades since. My fiancee ( bless her heart) had bought me an XBox One S because she knew it was to be available on console. Well, when that didn't happen (for a looong time) I picked up my old hobby of PC builds and Overcloclocking. Unfortunately I'm a hardware veteran but a software illiterate. I knew what the settings meant but just could never get the optimal compromise of realism vs performance. Ive watched this video twice today and have found it to be the most concise around. Just upgraded from a 1660 Ti to a 3060 12GB. While I've achieved pretty good results with 82fps (try getting that on the day one release, right?) , I still get the terrible micro-stutter with pan and zoom. Cant wait to get home tonight and try these settings (with lower values probably). I know they will work for me since I've never touched half of the settings that were shown here and your instructional makes perfect sense as in hitting my forehead and saying "Doh !". Hi Q8Pilot! I listened to your excellent video and did some changes to my sytem. I have a ROG Strix GA15DH, AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 6-Core Processor 3.80 GHz w/ 16GB memory. My GPU is NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super w/ 8GB memory. I have a SAMSUNG LU28R55 28". So, nothing fancy! After I listened to you, I realized that, for 1 (one) year I had not taken advantage of the feature FreeSync on my display, as it is supported using the G-Sync feature on my NVIDIA GPU. The reason why I missed all that, was that I attached my display using an HDMI cable, not a DisplayPort cable 1.4! So now I do. MSFS 2020 SU10 is now soo much smoother! WOW! A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU, Q8!
Great Video, I was having issues with Carenado's Beechcraft D-18 with loads of continuous stuttering. This fixed the issue. Greatly appreciated, I will check out more videos. Thanks from KROC.
Your experimental research is amazing and deserves a strong recognition from all of us. The matter is complicate and has a huge number of combination. I have a personal question: i have NVIDIA 4090 and 4k G-synch monitor, do you suggest to keep the TAA antiliasing option or migrate to diss quality/performance? Thank a lot for your help and work
Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it. I recommend keeping TAA antialiasing for better visuals. Also, I highly recommend that you use the Ultra preset as it is. No need to change anything. I only turn off Lens Flare because I don't like it.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing your experience, which requires a lot of testing time. On the other hand, I think you should add to the video, the considerations about HyperThreading on/off.
Another excellent and thorough video Q8Pilot. Great analysis. I'm going with DLSS Quality for now, as I fly in VR, this has essentially replaced the OpenXR Toolkit, so I don't use that anymore. I have kept DX11, as you stated DX12, this introduces stutters for me so not quite ready for prime time, but some content creators are saying it gives them smoother performance and higher fps. I'm not seeing it though. 👍
@@Q8Pilot I followed the guide for the most part and was able to up my visual quality with not as much performance impact as I expected (also, just upgraded to a 3070). The only area I deviated from your guide was using Nvidia control center for 16x anisotropic filtering instead of in game. For whatever reason, the NCP seems to do a way better job than MSFS does with this.
I have been using flight sims for a very long time. No matter how many tweaks you do the best option is to have the latest and fastest hardware if one can afford it.
Hi guy. First of all, agree your effort for share community your expierence and knwlogment. I own a little more step hardware you use, so your setup for MSFS was very similar to mine. Only i have changed, trying your recomendations, windows game-mode off to on, and in Nvidia control panel, MSFS settings, Vsync from Aplication controled to off. Some stability and sttuters works better so, many thanks again. Only one thing. After all changes, restart your system. Some changes in Nvidia CP works on registry, so if you dont restart, you dont have it. Cheers my friend.
Dude your sim update 9 video doesn't show us how to find the exe for MSFS so I can add it to graphics settings. Also I have a HDR Dell GSync monitor and when I turn off V-Sync it runs terribly. Best option I found is V-Sync on with 50% monitor refresh rate and it gives me very smooth performance.
If you're running the Micrsoft Store version, you can add MSFS to the 'Graphics settings' by selecting 'Microsoft Store app' from the 'Choose an app to set preference' drop-down menu, and then select 'Microsoft Flight Simulator' from the drop-down menu that subsequently appears below the first one.
So I went to your update 9 vid and it did not show how to find the Microsoft Flight Simulator app. Can you forward that info. I've looked and looked. Thank you kindly
Really great video. Not only suggestions but also explanations. Thank you v much. Two questions if you don't mind. 1. Do you think my RTX 3060 TWIN EDGE 12GB will accommodate these settings? 2. My instruments are blurry. Altitude numbers etc. Any ideas?
Thank you. With the 3060 you will have to lower your settings a bit to sustain steady FPS. The blurry textures can be related to many things but main culprit resolution in the sim settings and internet connection. It could also be that your settings are too high for your current GPU and CPU capabilities.
Thank you for your great videos and help. I have found problems with Update 10 with Flybywire and 737-300 I can not get the rudders to work right I have uninstalled and reset the settings when I press the left rudder pedal the plane on the ground turn far to the right and if I press right it will still turn right I can not get it to work right. On other planes it works ok I do not understand the way to fix it.
You will need to reverse the left rudder for this work. From the settings under the axis control, you can reverse the rudder. This should fix your issue.
Yes I am very sure. I have another connected monitor with HDR hence the option is there but It has no effect on the monitor I use. Looks like a bug of some sort.
Great video as usual! Many thanks for doing all the hard work testing for us. Would you have any idea why my .EXE file properties have the "Disable Fullscreen Opt" and "Override High DPI Scaling" options grayed out? They are both set and I cannot change them to follow your recommendations.
Unfortunately i have to question the way you approach this. The necessary settings vary depending on your graphics card! Your tips are valuable for users of the same or similar GPU's, yet if users with weaker/better hardware use your recommendations they will come to very different results. Take the clouds: As you stated on a high-end GPU it doesn't impact the fps much, yet i can tell you that on a RTX3060 it will tank your system when you run it over medium settings./DX12 introduces stuttering because the LOD distances are higher then with DX11. Lower the LOD's and you get the same performance and comparable or better details/viewing distances. Thank you for your effort, yet i think the video would be more helpful if you would name it with a hint of the used GPU. THX 💙
It is meant to be a guide. Results will vary from system to system for sure. Nothing wrong with the approach. On the clouds, I specifically mention that on my card it's fine on Ultra but this is to stress that Ultra settings is Wirth lowering other values. I hope you benefit from my video, but if you don't please smash the dislike button. P.S. All specs are in the video description.
@@Q8Pilot Don't get me wrong, i am used to point out critique very directly, please don't take it as general critique - i like your effort and the video that came out from it, yet i am missing a clear statement at the beginning/in the title that it is for a specific tier. I am sure that the results are valid in that tier, yet without a clear statements it's easy to take it for general advice. Perhaps you could add something like "for Mid-tier CPU and High End GPU" to the title... Honestly the basic problem is the lack of useful description from Microsobo. Would they additionally give advice with each entry like "Higher settings are GPU heavy/CPU heavy or GPU+++/CPU+" would make it much easier and would reduce the time spent for endless testing. The smartest games have an included benchmark, analysing the system specs and recommend setting seen as useful to the user. Thank you! 💙
Hey, thanks for the vid. One question, is it still correct NOT to disable fullscreen optimization??? I was wondering where you got that info from? Thanks again
Thank you very much for the excellent video. I got a G-sync compatible monitor, would you recommend on that setting the Vsync off? Or "let the 3d application decide"
@@Q8Pilot My i7 8700K MB got a BIOS update which enabled the feature. Doesn't seem to make a difference that I've noticed as I'm not sure whether MSFS has been optimised for Rebar use.
Hi AirbusGeek. It is not enough just to enable resizable BAR for applications that do not natively support it, such as MSFS 2020. For this use case you must supply a profile(s). An easy way to do this is using Nvidia Profile Inspector, and selecting appropriate profiles from other games. See Panjno's fine tutorial: th-cam.com/video/KWEPjoit1_E/w-d-xo.html
I followed the video to the letter but have not had a good outcome. As a flight continues the frame rate becomes very choppy with fluctuations in the order of 12 fps. I don't have AI Traffic loaded and have toned down a couple of settings such as render Scaling from 150 to 100 and TLD also from 150 to 100 but with no change in behaviour. I will have to revert my settings for all to default and start again from scratch. 😥
Nice indepht video - thanks. When I select the MSFS exe from Graphics Settings Browse, I get a Permission error. Similar if I choose to run MSFS in Administrator mode, I get an error and can't launch the game. Anyone knows how to workaround?
With these settings what kind of FPS are you getting at KEWR? For the life of me I can't get above about 23fps no matter what I do with a 3090 and 12900KF. Monitor is a 38inch ultrawide... Even sitting here at KATL I'm getting 25 in the 738. I'm in the teens in the Fenix and gave up completely on that one. Just curious
The airport wasn't there when I had the 3090 so I don't know. I have thr 4090 and getting about 95 FPS with the iniBuilds 310, about thr same with the Fenix and 105 FPS with PMDG.
Since last Update Iam stuck with completly blurry Ground Textures in Ranges of over 20 Miles. Settings on Ultra with 50-60 fps. Also when iam flying the Ground Textures behind the Aircraft are instantly unloading. Never had this before Sim is unflyble now. Reinstalled it but no changes. Do you have any Ideas?
Why setting Vsync in NVIDIA settings to off ? I thought gsync is working together with vsync for the scenario that the fps going under the lowest (or highest) refresh rate of your monitor. In fs 2020 this is not an unusual situation… without any vsync option it could give a lot of stuttering… vsync fast + gsync works great for me
Hi Q8Pilot, thanx voor this upload, really helpt me a lot. I also have a 165hz monitor, msfs realy is buttery smooth now, but my pc is making a lot of noise trying to reach the 165fps. Is there a way to cap the fps without enabling Vsync?
Yes you achieve this via the Nvidia control panel. You can cap your frames to an exact number. Look for max frames I believe is the parameter you need to enable and set.
I have used the studio and gameready drivers and haven't seen any noticeable difference. I have done hours of testing on both. Same results exactly. Either driver is fine.
Thanks for the video! For some reason if I don't cap my refresh rate it leads to a black loading screen instead of the pictures it usually shows. Should I cap it in nvidia control panel? If so should I cap it at 60 frames or 144 frames (I have a 1440p G-sync monitor). Thank you so much for you help!
Capping at 60 would make more since your situation. If you can, try to set up the refresh rate to 120 from the nvidia control panel, then do half refresh rate and see how that works. Do you have G-Sync enabled in the nvidia control panel?
Originally had g-sync enabled (v sync off) and refresh rate at 144hz in nvidia control panel. After switching it to 120hz it fixed the loading screen issue without a needing frame rate cap. Thanks!
On your setup I’d definitely recommend ramping your render scaling up to to 200 - I do that on a similar system (but with a 3080) and it makes a nice difference on the image quality. ‘2k’ is nothing to those cards and it’s the cpu that’s limiting your performance and changing mine to 200% of the resolution makes absolutely no difference to frame rates or smoothness - in fact in some conditions it can improve frame time as the gpu is not having to wait so long for the CPU. Flying through ultra clouds will tank it though lol.
As always a great video, no surprise, your passion for flight sim is noticeable!! Would like to ask you please, some recommendation for AMD GPU user please. We have just adrenalin software and not the control like in Nvidia... I guess you will help a lot of people based on AMD gpu. I don t know why msfs is so oriented to Nvidia while they are very decent gpu. btw I have two crossfire 6800 xt and they compite with Nvidia at same level, thanks again!!!
No joke, I think I have a FREAK pc. I am running 2k with everything on 65" samsung at ultra and 300 LOD with maxed out settings @ 35-45 (big city) and 55-60 (everywhere else). This is on dlss quality mode... I seriously dont understand it after watching people with 3070's and even 3080's not get as good as performance at 2k. MSFS 2020 SU10 is now soo much smoother! WOW! A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU, Q8!
Glad this has worked for you. Happy flying and thanks for watching!
@@Q8Pilot Hardly ANY stutter at 1440! th-cam.com/video/_B_sX7OFQ_k/w-d-xo.html I'm VERY happy, THANK YOU!
You are the first person who recommended Game Mode on! I will try it.
Almost everyone who tried it reported much smoother experience and many cases more frames.
Thank you so much!! I significantly raised my settings and got better FPS and fewer stutters after working your magic
Thanks for watching! Glad this has worked out well for you. Happy flying!
Great Video, I was having issues with Carenado's Beechcraft D-18 with loads of continuous stuttering. This fixed the issue. Greatly appreciated, I will check out more videos. Thanks from KROC.
Well done. Now, headed off to see if these settings work well with my machine. Thank you.
Thank you so much! your guide has dramatically improved my performance.
Glad this has helped. Thank you for watching and for your support over the past 5 years.
@@Q8Pilot sir not only do I no longer have stutters. I have gained about 25 FPS.
Excellent as always, thanks for all your hard work.
Great workshop and very thorough and helpful. Cheers Jens x Salmya resident
Great settings video. Thanks for all your hard work. BTW do you every fly in VR? If you do can you share your VR setting?
Thanks for watching and for your kind words. I do not fly VR sorry!
The game mode does make a big difference. Thank you!
Glad this had worked out for you and thank you for watching the video!
Great settings tutorial. It improved my game performance & visuals. Great job Q8. Thank you for taking the time to sort this out 🏆✈️
Glad it helped! Happy flying my friend, and thanks for watching!
Thanks for this. Love all your videos!!!
Excellent video, thanks for sharing your experience, which requires a lot of testing time.
On the other hand, I think you should add to the video, the considerations about HyperThreading on/off.
Thanks for watching. I will consider this in a future video.
You’re doing the lords work. Thanks for putting this together!
Thanks for watching! Glad this was helpful for you. Happy flying!
Bravo for this very useful video. It did help a lot. Greetings from France.
Glad this has helped. Happy flying!
Thx for the great video! Which add-on is the scenery at the intro and which aircraft? Looks amazing!
Thanks for watching! The scenery is 42MX by Parallel 42.
I have been using flight sims for a very long time. No matter how many tweaks you do the best option is to have the latest and fastest hardware if one can afford it.
There is a lot of merit to the statement you make here for sure!
Glad this was helpful for you and thanks for both the tip and watching the video!
Hi mate, will you release a guide to SU11 as well? thanks
With my new specs, I am not sure I can provide something useful, but I will do my best.
@@Q8Pilot sure, thank you sir. your perfomance videos are the best
In the Update 9 VIdeo u did not explain, how to get MSFS App in Graphic settings
You can find it here \AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps
It may be a good idea to note that this guide is running on windows 10 and not 11. Some of the options showed are not available in windows 11
Thanks for watching! It is Win 10.
Typically the HDR setting is greyed out if you don’t have an HDR monitor. Are you sure yours isn’t HDR?
Yes I am very sure. I have another connected monitor with HDR hence the option is there but It has no effect on the monitor I use. Looks like a bug of some sort.
Great video as usual! Many thanks for doing all the hard work testing for us. Would you have any idea why my .EXE file properties have the "Disable Fullscreen Opt" and "Override High DPI Scaling" options grayed out? They are both set and I cannot change them to follow your recommendations.
Never mind, I figured it out. I had to click on the button to "Change Seetings for All Users" first.
Glad you figured it out! Happy flying =)
Thank you! 💙
Great video. Deep of field off gave me stutters. R7 5800 with rtx 3080.
Thanks for watching! Glad it helped.
Hey, thanks for the vid. One question, is it still correct NOT to disable fullscreen optimization??? I was wondering where you got that info from? Thanks again
Yes disabling full screen optimization causes stutters for some reason after SU10.
Thanks alot this actually helped me. Did you find this solution on your own?
@@Claudinho571 Most welcome, yes, I do extensive testing before making those videos.
Have you made a video on control settings like throttle pedals and yoke?
Unfortunately, no I haven't
Thank you very much for the excellent video. I got a G-sync compatible monitor, would you recommend on that setting the Vsync off? Or "let the 3d application decide"
Set v-sync off from the control panel works best for me.
@@Q8Pilot Thanks a lot, I'll do that.
Excellent Job

How do much do you think the air traffic settings (end of settings) for people who don't use a separate multiplayer addon?
I am fortunate. I ramp everything to max and MSFS and XP12 run very smoothly.
Happy flying!
Thank you very informative.

Hey nice video. But what about Re-Bar inside Bios settings? Did you tried it and any conclusion about it? Best regards.
My MB does not support it.
@@Q8Pilot I had this option shown, after a MB bios update. Maybe worth trying it.
Under "Graphics Options" it wont allow me to add the MSFS executable to the list. Is there a workaround?
Hi Osamah, thank you my friend! And How is UserCfg/PostProcess settings? (Sharpen-FilmGrain etc..)
Thanks for watching! The film grain are set to 0 already since SU9. I didn't have to make changes to it.
In fs 2020 this is not an unusual situation… without any vsync option it could give a lot of stuttering… vsync fast + gsync works great for me
GSync + Vsync together will more than like cause microstutters at least based on my testing.
Seems that capping it to max60fps via nvidiapanel did the trick. :)
Any suggestions for NVIDIA REFLEX LOW LATENCY - OFF/ON/ON+BOOST ?
I have it on and didn't notice any difference with it on or off or on boost.
@@Q8Pilot Thank you. Great video!
Which Nvidia Driver are you on mate?
The latest! 517.48 Game Ready Driver
By the way, I don't know if you've commented this subject before, but is there a real advantage to using the gameready Nvidia driver?
I have used the studio and gameready drivers and haven't seen any noticeable difference. I have done hours of testing on both. Same results exactly. Either driver is fine.
@@Q8Pilot So I'll keep the studio driver. Tx again!
@@Gilles45 sure
For Graphic Settings how do you get the option to choose Microsoft Flight Simulator? I checked update 9 video and it didn't say how to either.
You can browse to the exe, it is under your windowsapp folder
If you're running the Micrsoft Store version, you can add MSFS to the 'Graphics settings' by selecting 'Microsoft Store app' from the 'Choose an app to set preference' drop-down menu, and then select 'Microsoft Flight Simulator' from the drop-down menu that subsequently appears below the first one.

@@Q8Pilot yep
Thanks!
@@P3ter777z perfect. Happy flying!

That's very strange, but if vsync works for you, keep it on.

Hey there do you have any recommendations for a 2060 with a ryzen 5 3600x?
