Best Paxman VP185 Cold Start | 43073 first start at the Colne Valley Railway |

125 Heritage 43073 Starting up cold for the first time since it was taken out of service in late 2020. As this Power Car had been out of service for a while it made for quite the dramatic start up as she fired to life! As well as filming the Cold Start from the outside, I placed a camera inside the Engine Room.
The next HST Running day is planned for the 27th of August. 125 Heritage are also offering Driver a Experience day with the Power Cars, more infomation can be found on the Colne Valley Website.

I didn’t expect the engine room cam but that was a brilliant decision. That VP185 sounded like a 2 cylinder Gardener engine before the other 10 pistons roared to life.

Feels weird to be seeing this train on a heritage line. Used to catch these regularly with EMT/EMR within the last couple of years until they canned them. Still sporting the Stagecoach (East Midlands Trains) livery but with an East Midlands Railway tag on the side as these were taken out of service shortly after EMR took over from EMT. Are those Hull Trains carriages at the back?

Hi Michael that is correct EMR took their VP185ed Power Cars out of service and then used cascaded vehicles from LNER, which included MTUed Power Cars. The coaches we have here are all EX LNER MK3s!

@@alan2804 it would certainly be a problem if the power unit was damaged this was just its first start after a couple of years of being sat there static, so hence the smoke and run up time
