Thank you for doing all this legwork for the Grounded community! I recommend your content to any Grounded players. I see some other TH-camrs post some similar Grounded content faster, but they are never as accurate, thorough, or easy to follow as you. Thank you for taking the time to get these things right. I 100% agree that they should implement something in the game to track the damage types. Thoughts on this being a new "Journal" or "Insectpedia" (or "Insectopedia?" page in the menu? The idea is a page that gets filled in as you meet new insects. The name fills in when you get within a certain vicinity and then you unlock information about them the more you kill. As you pick up their drops, it fills in the page with what they can drop. As you kill them in certain areas it tells you where they frequent. When you kill a certain amount you learn their strengths and weaknesses. OR their could be Omenant research caches hidden around the map (kinda like Explorers Notes in Ark) that teaches you info and/or strengths/weaknesses and updates your "Insectopedia" with this info
Yeah he's the best Grounded content creator. Won't name names but there was another who would make a video about what armor is best and wouldn't even leave his base while talking about it. He'll talk about how great a weapon is and doesn't even include combat footage. Milton is way better
They should implement what Valheim has and when you hit a creature the splash is Grey, white or yellow so players can see if they are doing extra or less damage. Red for crits
While resistances & weaknesses are a good addition to the game, I have no clue why Obsidian thought it was a good idea to green light them without any in game player feedback. The insectopedia idea you mentioned is a great way of doing it. I personally would have suggested an audio/visual clue. Just like how the game has sparks and a clang from a perfect block, using a damage type that is the insects weakness could have red "impact" lines shoot out, or a damage type that is resisted could have a clang with an animation of your weapon bouncing back.
Really wish there was an in game system that showed bugs strengths weaknesses and what they drop that upgrades the more you fight them similar to monster hunter world

I personally use the salt morningstar because of the high stun comboed with the ability to use a shield. Being able to stun in a few hits along with only using about 2/3 of my stamina for an attack combo means that the stun gives me time to get most if not all of my stamina back. I pair this with the barbarian mutation for extra damage with the rage buff, which even though causes the inability to perfect block, it doesn't matter because I'm using a shield. It also helps because you don't need the skill to perfect block which may help less experienced players as well as players in multiplayer like me, who are not the host.

Even tho the ant club does more dmg then salt morningstar the morningstar swings faster uses less stam has higher stun and is a 1 handed so can pair with ant sheild + roly poly armour for a great stun conbo with great defense
I have 4 status effects! . So of course you get salty from the mace. I wear the broodmom helm so add poison. The salt mace also has mighty. And finally, if you equip barbarian mutation, its attack bonus pops off and I think the game is counting me holding a mace and shield as two handed and the bonus goes off! It makes the mace hit harder. Gives you the pinkish reddish glow around your screen and you can see itin the temp buffs. I love this game

I haven't seen anyone talk about how good the insect hammer can be with animation canceling. It seriously competes with the 'top 3' especially considering you can use a shield with it!
This is real good information i love it but some things to consider IMO is the fact that some weapons are quicker and as well as ability the weapons has and also weather or not you can use a shield. Im still early on in the game but it seems like the Mosquito needle handles pretty much anything due to the fact it has the life steal ability and you get to hold a shield. The "Needle" is a reall quick weapon and so far deals with most creatures (not the lady bug or robots)
Personally, I do prefer the Salt Morning Star since it has a higher stun chance and is one-handed, which lets me use a shield to give me some insurance against damage if I whiff a perfect block by blocking too early. On a more subjective note, I also think it looks cooler.
After looking at your spreadsheet, I have a question for you. On the individual insect tabs, you have some hidden columns that you use for your final calculations. But in those hidden columns, you have Level 6 and Level 7 listed twice and sometimes you use the first column and other times you use the second. Can you explain why? There are no calculations in those hidden columns, so I can't figure out why you have them twice, with different numbers. I ask because I'm trying to figure out why, for the wolf spider, the mighty antlion greatsword does more damage than the spicy greatsword. Both are using the same coefficient, so both should do the same damage, yes? But you use the first level 7 base number for mighty, and the second level 7 base number, which is smaller, for the spicy. This, of course, is why they don't match, but why different starting base numbers?
Columns L & M are Mighty and columns N & O are for Fresh/Salty/Spicy. Mighty does more damage because level 7 is +80% damage while level 7 Spicy is only +70% damage. There are no formulas because those are the base amounts for the weapon. The columns that are shown take the base damage multiplied by the strength or weakness factor.
You can kill a lady bug with out getting hit once just by pushing into her and making sure you don't stop pushing while hitting and don't get caught on blades of grass
i honestly think if you are using the insects weapon against it it kinda works since the devs point is to get better when u have it and fight the insect itself (you didnt get me did you)
That’s because the morning star is very stamina efficient. I think you get 6 swings before your stamina is depleted compared to the 3 swings you get with the large clubs
Antlion greatsword is great for both wolf spiders and antlions but when I have both in my backpack the game doesn't allow me to have 2 seperate slots of the same weapon on the hotbar, this means I have to go into my backpack and manually equip the correct antlion greatsword depending on weather I'm fighting wolf spiders or antlions, wish they could fix it. It's not game breaking but a small problem, and it's really annoying when you need to quickly equip the correct one in the heat of battle

Why not recommend a spicy mosquito needle against ants if they're both weak to stabbing and spicy damage? Comparatively speaking, the needle isn't a powerful weapon, but the life steal effect makes it incredibly useful, especially if you end up taking on a large number of ants at once.
Does the high ground arrow attack still working? Since the last time I tried the bugs seesm to run out of sight if we are attacking from a high ground.
Is 4.73 correct for the fully upgraded Salt Morning Star against Antlions? That's the same as a Mighty lvl 7 Ant Club. I feel like the SMS does way more damage to them than that.

To be honest it all depends on how you build. Been using a stinger spear for each flavor and I have been taking out antlions, wolf spiders, roly-polys, and ladybugs fast. No need for the tier 3 weapons .

Edit: by the way, I had the antlion set on while in the sandbox and tried shooting my crossbow, something bugged out and it started shooting like a machine gun! Like 10 arrows within a second. Have you ever noticed that happening? I’m going to try to replicate it tonight after work to see what was going on.
That has been a bug for awhile now. If you rapidly tap the trigger while shooting occasionally you'll get off multiple shots. From what I've heard though I've never seen it done myself it's possible to do with a regular bow as well. However like I said I personally have never seen it done with a reg bow only with the crossbow
So as someone who likes to gamble with my life I use the new hands on melee build And I think it's theoretically possible to kill a roly poly in two hits with your fist
What I see that I dont like is that pretty much the only good weapons are the dualhanded ones, I usually like dual handed weapons but here it becomes repetitive, and I would like to be more varied. I understand that this is more like min maxing and atm Im defending myself pretty well with black ant sword, the bee spear and shield... True aswell that atm those weapons are the only tier 3 weapons, maybe in the future we'll get T3 swords, spears and bows... so they are decent as well against those bugs and I dont need only T3 clubs to deal real damage.
is the AL-GS the best with mighty in average? since the dmg is slightly higher than spicy on most of the endgame insects (bombbeetle, spiders, AL, etc)

I’ve heard there are some odd bugs related to ant spawning in the game now, something about over spawning causing game crashes. Have you run into any glitches related to the new update that mess up the game experience yet?
Ok so spicy antlion great sword being the best means that the Katana is going to be so busted it gets spicy and mighty level damages. Not to mention the katana having the antlion sword stats.
okay this progress feels weird, u can get antlion sword with spicy, and u will destroooooy broodmother, after she's dead u can create the club of the broodmother but it's kinda useless cuz antlion sword is just way better

There's also an argument for ladybug and both of the new armors. Rolly poly has slightly more defense but imo the effects matter more. Ladybug might be good if you're running a 2 handed wep, black ant has thorns, and antlion might be the new ranged meta with crossbow (cause quick draw)
Best armor for what? If defense one of the heavy armor like ladybug, black ant armor, or roly poly. These armors are good for defense but they are terrible when you want to be aggressive with a faster weapon. The best armor is for what ever build you are trying build.
why are these results quite different from that of sir sim a lot? Pretty sure buddy is basically a dev at this point. And as it seems to me a level 7 mighty Antlion Great sword does do more damage than that of salt at level 7 on the same weapon.. ?

but mighty is just over 12% innate damage over all the other types, so all your listed numbers for mighty should be 12% higher because 1.0 for mighty is 12% stronger than 1.0 for all the other types. Additionally worthless small mobs should be removed from the calculations.

wolf spiders never stay this stationary when I shoot them with arrows - they just run off and then walk back towards me re-gened. feelsbadman

The devs are aware of it and hopefully fix it soon. I haven't crashed just had some FPS drops.

So the Club of the MD maxed is still has the highest damage output?
It can in some situations but the Antlion Greatsword can in others.
So it changed feom once you get the club and mint mace you win now it is the same but there is more wepons

There's also an argument for ladybug and both of the new armors. Rolly poly has slightly more defense but imo the effects matter more. Ladybug might be good if you're running a 2 handed wep, black ant has thorns, and antlion might be the new ranged meta with crossbow (cause quick draw)

Best armor for what? If defense one of the heavy armor like ladybug, black ant armor, or roly poly. These armors are good for defense but they are terrible when you want to be aggressive with a faster weapon. The best armor is for what ever build you are trying build.
Yeah, depends on your playstyle I prefer ladybug it's tanky and easier to repair. I do want to try black ant armor might fit my playstyle more

I kill assistant manager by black ant sword level 2 and get gold card for it.

why are these results quite different from that of sir sim a lot? Pretty sure buddy is basically a dev at this point. And as it seems to me a level 7 mighty Antlion Great sword does do more damage than that of salt at level 7 on the same weapon.. ?
I did the testing myself. He had someone do it for him. I streamed half my testing and made sure to repeat each test 5-10 times. Trust who you want.

but mighty is just over 12% innate damage over all the other types, so all your listed numbers for mighty should be 12% higher
because 1.0 for mighty is 12% stronger than 1.0 for all the other types. Additionally worthless small mobs should be removed from the calculations.
Antlion doesn’t take damage from spicy mint or salty the devs said
Go test for yourself. They take extra damage from Salty.
