I ATTEND A CLASSIC CAR AUCTION IN NORFOLK! ANGLIA CAR AUCTION

  • Welcome back all,
In this weeks video we head up to Anglia Car Auctions for a full weekend of classic cars going under the hammer. Every time we attend this auction they surprise me with how many classic cars they gather together within a couple of months. From Fords to Minis, Mercedes to Land Rovers, this auction really does have a classic vehicle for everyone.
The cars which stood out to me were the fords but more specifically the two Mk2 Fiestas which were tucked in a corner out in the yard. The 1.4s previously featured on bangers and cash and it seems since then, the owner had done some light restoration. There Xr2 was in a slightly worse condition and had been crudely restored in areas. I was very surprised with the hammer price on the Xr2…!
Let me know in the comments section below, which classic cars you liked and what you thought about the hammer prices.
Their next classic car sale is on 10th & 11th June

Thank you for watching, be sure to subscribe to keep up to date with all the auctions I attend.

Something so therapeutic about these videos!
Not only were both Fiestas horribly neglected and bodged, the XR2 sounded like a speeded up blacksmith at his anvil.
Unusual colour but agreed with u about the 520i Touring. Rather in the same way we view 60s cars, so we view 90s cars, albeit for different reasons. I think they're good ones too, representing in my view, the pinnacle, the zenith, the asymptote, the motherlode, the polestar - the very crux of the matter - of motoring; combining as they generally do many aspects which you would definitely consider plus points - like reliability, good wind noise suppression, accident avoidance/protection, resistance to rust, performance - while not having had every possible contingency engineered into them. I personally do not want the car to steer and brake for me, nor even to maintain its distance behind another motorist up ahead - I never use ordinary cruise control, never mind one which uses radar to actively view ahead. And that's the point - there are now SO many features on a car, even a small one like a Polo, that to even contemplate reading the handbook from cover to cover to get an overview of all the controls and features, would not happen. It would feel like homework, and therefore a chore. I am just not interested in 78 different ways in which the tone, balance, fade, arena and razzle of my stereo adjust. I don't WANT to adjust my steering heft, the stiffness of my dampers or throttle responsiveness. I don't want the car to weigh an extra 2kg to accommodate the motors and sensors and extra wiring necessary for the car to make decisions for me - and then act on my behalf: I have driven dozens of vehicles with auto dip headlamps and none of them ever do it early enough.
Even electric seats I find a complete waste of time - and as for electric seatbelt height, steering column reach/rake and display screens, don't get me started. Steering wheel heating and massaging seats feel more kinky than luxurious. In short, much of what has in fact been available (even standard) on some cars for years, is already superfluous to my requirements never mind what is yet to come. That cars are getting bigger and heavier to accommodate it all - ironically to the detriment of economy, emissions, performance and handling - only exacerbates the issues their ever more advanced technologies were designed to tackle: for every pedestrian City-brake saves, another will die because the driver was relying too much on the car to pay attention for them, instead of doing it themselves - plus the fact the braking distances even from 30mph are an extra 6ft on the 2024 model compared to the 1994 model because the car from today weighs half a tonne more. I can't even now remember how many models ago it was that the Polo became bigger than the Mk1 Golf.
If I'm really honest I couldn't especially give a stuff about most of the above.... what really bothers me though is that in an effort to keep a lid on the size and weight - not forgetting costs - the componentry on modern cars is being made with less and less margins for failure. Whereas a waterpump, say, used to tell you it was on its way out, now they just go bang. And it doesn't end there because there are so many integrated electronics that I can see a time when you won't he able to change a fuse for a failed foglamp, without having to swap out the car's entire wiring loom..that for me is the key point. Yes, 90s stuff has electronics but not to the extent and (lack of) quality as today. Even really mechanical stuff I don't necessarily feel has got better - it is no accident, I think, that the car still running around today with the verified world record for mileage covered, is a Volvo P1800 from the 1960s. OK, with its more than three million miles, that is not just an impressive automotive feat - you'd need to be a VERY dedicated driver to cover 3 000 000 miles which even doing 60 000 per annum would take 50 years to do. That being said, I just cannot envisage a Mercedes C200 never mind something more downmarket like a Kia Sportage with more than 3mil on the clock in the year 2073.
This wasn't meant to be a "bash modern cars" rant, not at all - I accept I am unusual in not wanting all those toys - clearly most do, otherwise manufacturers wouldn't make them. The primary purpose was as a comparison between what cars today have to do compared to what they did 30 years ago. Tbh, although I focused on features and complexity (and the commensurate increased difficulty of maintenance), you could add performance to the list. I know I know that clearly sounds crazy - like the Duchess of Windsor used to say "you can never be too rich or too thin" so, it may be argued, can you never have too much acceleration. In reality it is one of those unanswerable questions isn't it Well, to a point - the answer, obviously is of course yes you can have too much - the laws of biology see to that: acceleration subjects you to a g force and despite notable exceptions, 50g is usually fatal. Accelerating from 0-100mph in 3.3seconds equates to 1.36g - so you can see there is a long, LONG way to go before we get to "too much".
That being said 10g will make most people go unconscious - not death, but not very useful for driving either. But even 3g is REALLY uncomfortable. With Tesla Plaids pulling nearly half that, we're really starting to get near the borders. And that's just speeding up. All cars brake (much) quicker than they accelerate so a fast stop from high speed in a Tesla, Ferrari or McLaren isn't much fun. In short, I believe the Plaid isn't the only car in the low 2's 0to60. I know being a passenger is different to driving but my brother's been in one and after only a few minutes said he "felt sick" - and that's from someone who owned a Porsche Panamera Hybrid.
We laugh now when we read that when the first trains were tested, there was widespread concern that the human body would just melt at high speed and that women in particular should not go past 50mph in case their womb flew out😂 Predictions about the future tend to age rather badly - look at the way Thunderbirds renders 2065 - Lady Penelope would need a long sit down and a double martini to get over the shock of 2015!!😂
And you know what? We are naturally sentimental - it's the instinct for the familiar - we're safe with what we know and safety equals survival. The more complex life gets, the more people will tend to seek refuge in something they remember from years or decades ago.
I think, as well as your cheerful and interesting perspective, that's why I enjoy your channel! 👍

Been some great cars over the years.
Those Clio V6s seemed expensive at £25k. If we only knew?
I would love a really nice Renault 5 GT turbo for £10,000. But I guess I can only dream? I remember us going about town in my mates one in the early 90's and it really was special.

also the 523i with back lights bigger than the 74 model and in 1980 had also a blue metalic with the 535i ,also the clio williams numbered edition, only for 3 monthes, also the Rover 114i for 15 days, had a golf like the golden one but with a diesel engine ,it was bordeux, the fiesta MKIII with two seats diesel (94)air conditioned from factory(i´m going to get it this afternoon it passed the inspection ,but had for 10 years one 1.4S from 88 just like the black one with special pearl white covers on the black iron wheels but outside half was metalic blue and the bottom half was grey kind of rubber paint all original with the two front lights like the XR3i mkII but the escort with a lot of graphics in black a 1.6i, my 70´s and 80´s also a few from the 90´s cars ,the fiesta in white, the XR2 in my country only was sold with the 1.3 engine, no metal was touched by rust in the cars refered but my 94 fiesta some winters when it really rains it feels a bit wet in the front carpet ,maybe the rubber on the windshield at the right down corner, all cars have the steering wheel on the right side or the same as saying ,the left side

The puma is one of a number that I was involved with, imported from Koln. The puma factory was just behind the dealer ship that we collected the cars from, up to 6 at a time. The cars were driven back then sold in the UK with around 250 miles on, at around £2000 under dealer price. Each car was inspected by the DVLA at Ipswich before being registered. Great days!!

had a golf gti convertible in white and blue. The blue was like the one in the video with modern bumpers and BBS wheels it was sold at the same time they released the MKII, the first with metal bumpers was from a german electronic engenier it had a phone bought from indians from India that we could call everywhere and i even made some money with it but till today i don´t understand how it worked , he was stationed in the Nato airforce field 4km´s from the city where i live ,there was also a big neighborhood with young german families ,they like the sun all year around lot´s of them never returned to germany, we Portuguese had at the time, this in the late 80´s 40 km´s of highway with 2 lanes each direction in all south of the country, some didn´t believe they had 5 lanes highways with a lot more and more kms, the spots where there was water ,there were trees ,also young german girls topless ,the kids from kms around in litle vilages came all to see young women ,some 40kms in old bikes , but if you had a car you could go to untoutched beaches in the south atlantic coast at 117km´s the most and see entire beaches with running drinking water coming from the rocks to the beach , where you could take the salt from your skin but filled with young women from all over Europe not making only topless but downless too, i took a guy that had never seen one city to the beach ,he stayed in the towel all day with the back to the sun, he was tried ,he said .Some french girls ofered to put sunscreen in his back and he only knew how to say "yes, yes" so they did ,nice 30 years we had. That´s how i started to colect Mercedes and BMW´s from the 60´s and 70´s they sold when returning to Germany ,also VW´s and audi´s (they were exactelly the same till the late 70´s)i once had a passat that was just like the audi 70 or 80 from my father ,only the dash lights were diferent ,the vw in green and the audi in red and the front grills ,oh i almost forget there was a wooden trim in the audi´s dash both blue metallic with 1.4L 70 h.p. vans
