The 90s was such a cool, fun time. Memories flooding back! I had the Sega Mega Drive and my cousin had the SNES. We gamed and we gamed then we gamed some more.
Brilliant list and these games brought back some great memories. Streets of Rage 2 is a worthy winner indeed. I would also add games like Fifa word cup, F1 championship, there was also a good tennis game too. Double Dragon wasnt bad either. Another forgotten gem was DJ Boy. Thanks for the great list and overall content. Superb channel.
One day in 2019, i was playing Streets of Rage 2, and suddenly i was struck by an overwhelming urge to shout out really loud....Streets of rage 2 is the best beat’em up EVERRRRRR!!!!! And from that point on It’s not been a debate on which is the best. This is such a great game that has everything a young gamer would love. Great list, and great video!!
I always thought SOR2 was perfect but unless I'm mistaken there's no double team moves but no option to switch off still being able to hit each other. That's a flaw! For that reason I'd rather just play it on my own
I liked the music better in the first game but as an overall package number 2 is my number 1 beat'em up of all time. I cannot wait to play number 4 on my PS4 PRO hopefully later this year and judging on trailers number 2 will remain number 1.
So many good games so it is hard to make a list. I would have put Musha, Alien Soldier, Thunder Force IV, Strider, these are fantastic games. I still play them from time to time.
Strider Hiryu maybe not flawless but for its time it was stunning. Still wondering why sega changed the sprite for Hiryu. Yes musha is top tier shnup. No top list can be without it
I’m a 21 year old who has been collecting and appreciating both the newest and the oldest games since I was 14. As a more objective party, I agree 8 to 16 is a pretty large leap. However, I think you could argue 16bit to 3D was as big, if not bigger. Especially when considering all the gameplay and control innovations that needed to take place in moving from 2d to 3d
Thunder Force IV, Story of Thor, Soleil, Light Crusader, Landstalker, Virtua Racing, Ecco 1 & 2, Eternal Champions, Alien Soldier, Musha, Dynamite Heady, ToeJam & Earl 2, Dragon Ball... There are many games that could have joined the list.
Great list and great video. Have never heard of Shining Force as an action adventure game. I love both of those very much; probably my two favorite Megadrive games. Always thought those were strategy RPGs
Great list. Finally someone like me who prefer Shinobi III then Revenge of Shinobi. I just have missed Thunder Force IV. Definitively it'd be in my list.

Oh crap when I was making my list in this comment section I totally forgot about the Splatterhouse games. Oh well I was only doing my list from the top of my head. But ya they would be on my list as a series.

Solid list I love seeing everyone's different views on what games should be on this list, shows just how much the many different games on the Mega Drive meant to its players. I wasn't even born when the Mega Drive was released, but it was the first console my father introduced to me. So it, alongside the Dreamcast, were the first consoles I have memory of playing as a kid. As for a game I think should be on this list: Kid Chameleon. It was such an amazing yet difficult platformer on the Mega Drive. The different power ups, the artstyle, the music, all amazing. I remember I always had this process of dying 3/4 levels in, retrying and going again, just to end up where I was before and dying again, then just giving up and going back to Sonic lol. Because of that, I have the first 3/4 levels of Kid Chameleon burned into my memory. I recently bought the entire SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics collection on Steam, gonna have an awesome nostalgia trip very soon.
Great that your dad introduced you to the megadrive and even greater that your first consoles in your memory include my favourite console of all time the dreamcast
Another great video OSG. I love how you go all posh sounding too when you say "Master System" :-D Although I do already own a Mega Drive, and several cool fully boxed carts etc, I have been thinking of purchasing one of those SD Mega Drive carts for a while. I bought the SD2SNES last year, and it is fantastic, literally hundreds of SNES games at your fingertips (and even scene demos like on the Amiga) from one cart...it's wicked. Now, watching your video has persuaded me to buy the Mega Drive SD cart too, to play so many great games :) The games you covered are ace, they all look, play, and sound tremendous, but I love the MD versions of Mega-Lo-Mania, Cannon Fodder, and Chaos Engine, to name but a few, but I guess they're not drastically different to their Amiga versions, which are probably just that bit better anyway, certainly in the sound department in some cases (such as Mega-Lo -Mania anyway). Keep up the good work mate, and keep on sounding posh when you say "Master System" :-D Cheeeers!!

Pretty good list. I'll put series as one, like the Sonics, SOR, Golden Axes, Shinobis, etc. That way you can put other games people may not know about.
Sadly no Illusion series games in here but not a single bad game on this list. Not all my style but like you said you do come to appreciate them for what they are. Great video. Have a great day.

I always loved the aesthetic of Earthworm Jim and I remember seeing it in Gamepro ads and other gaming magazines as a kid, but I can't get past the controls. For similar cartoony gross-out games that embody that same 90's nostalgia, I much prefer Boogerman and Ren & Stimpy: Stimpy's Invention. Both massively underrated.
@@Wil_DsenseI was actually going to include that in my list but figured it was already well known. Just wanted to mention some lesser known ones I grew up with that had that classic nostalgic aesthetic.
Good list. Shot em up and sports games missing. But it is a matter of personal taste. I also love alien soldier, it may have complex controls, but once you understand is easy. Also try the contra Japanese version. Much better and accessible.
The genesis is the best console of all time. While the Snes has some of the best games ever made it's music falls in with the pack now. What it can do graphically is easy to do now. The genesis sound with it's unique sound chip still stands out and the great titles on it are uniquely genesis.
I missed all the 16 bit consoles as I had a Amiga throughout this period so I'm naturally gonna compare these games with similar Amiga ones, and I must say I'm impressed! Some great looking games here, not surprised Sonic being up there, played it at a friends a few times and was very impressed with the speed! Great list m8, could've done with some em ups though ;)

Yep. „Thunderforce 3“ is an absolute amazing Mega-Drive-game. One of my all-time-favourites. And I liked „Shadow Dancer“. Nearly perfect arcade-port. Greetings from Germany!
1-Shining Force 2 2-Landstalker 3-Shining Force 4-Phantasy Star 4 5-Sonic 3 6-Streets of Rage 2 7-Sonic 2 8-Gunstar Heroes 9-Madden 93 10-Flashback Wow it is hard to even make a Top 10. So many greats
A few honorable mentions: herzog zwei, pitfall, mutant league football/hockey, desert/jungle strike, general chaos, super hang on, donald in maui mallard. Im sorry the list goes on forever. So many great games and memories
Shinobi III makes a case for the top game on the Genesis for me. Great gameplay, pretty good story, and the SOUNDTRACK is just top tier for the hardware.
Everyone has their favourites, but I think you've done a really good job on this list. I'd add Madden 92 or 93, Sensible Soccer, Speedball 2 and one of the EA NHL games but I understand the omissions if sports games aren't your thing.
Well, it's your list, so you can put 'em in any order you prefer! I too was surprised by the lack of shooters but you already commented multiple times on that. Have you tried Fire Shark though? Since you like Truxton...
Have you got the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection for 360 and PS3? if not I think you'd like it has a lot of your choices on it. My favorites that weren't already on your list: Dune II The Battle For Arrakis Tiny Toon's Busters Hidden Treasure Sensible Soccer Starflight Buck Rogers
Megadrive had so many good games and it's so hard to make lists like this, it's even harder to watch lists like this because there were so many games you're basically guaranteed to disappoint someone. I remember loving games like eternal champions, tiny toons acme all-stars and Shane Warne cricket which almost no one mentions haha
Quite a few of these games I played, some I beat... some Sega Genesis Gems of mine are missing from this List...: Alisia Dragoon (Never managed to beat, but loved game so much... especially the Main Character!
Nice idea to put the start screen of the game at the END (not the beginning) of each presentation of a game. So you always have a good/epic finish for the presentation and everyone can read the title again. (And you have no work putting title fields into your editing program 🤭)
Excellent list. Personally, I'd swap out both Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 and replace them with Vectorman and Sonic 3 plugged into Sonic & Knuckles 👌🏻
The 90s was such a cool, fun time. Memories flooding back! I had the Sega Mega Drive and my cousin had the SNES. We gamed and we gamed then we gamed some more.

Yep. „Thunderforce 3“ is an absolute amazing Mega-Drive-game. One of my all-time-favourites. And I liked „Shadow Dancer“. Nearly perfect arcade-port. Greetings from Germany!
Thank you!
What a list 😀
1-Shining Force 2
2-Landstalker
3-Shining Force
4-Phantasy Star 4
5-Sonic 3
6-Streets of Rage 2
7-Sonic 2
8-Gunstar Heroes
9-Madden 93
10-Flashback
Wow it is hard to even make a Top 10.
So many greats
"Donald Duck in Maui Mallard" and "Mickey Mania" should be listed in the top 5.
Strider, super hang on , eswat, ecco the dolphin, rambo 3, mickey mouse castle of illusion.. the list goes on and on !!!!!
My boy Golden Axe II, yessirr. 🔥🔥
A few honorable mentions: herzog zwei, pitfall, mutant league football/hockey, desert/jungle strike, general chaos, super hang on, donald in maui mallard. Im sorry the list goes on forever. So many great games and memories
Nice list just missing some shootemups. Megadrive had excelent shootemups like musha or thunderforce and others. You should try them.
Golden Axe was one of my favs for sure. Played a lot with childhood friends back in the day.
Tough to pick top 30. Great games I could add would be Flashback, Jungle Strike and LandStalker.
Landstalker was awesome. The dark level on jungle strike was so hard as a kid lol
Battle Tech was 🔥🔥🔥 2 players
Jungle , desert , urban ... all strike game was masterpiece
Shinobi III makes a case for the top game on the Genesis for me. Great gameplay, pretty good story, and the SOUNDTRACK is just top tier for the hardware.
Why aye man, champion video
I'd take eternal champions over mk1 anyday.
I was OBSESSED with shining force 2
have a few of your mates come over and play Road Rash 2. good times!
Everyone has their favourites, but I think you've done a really good job on this list. I'd add Madden 92 or 93, Sensible Soccer, Speedball 2 and one of the EA NHL games but I understand the omissions if sports games aren't your thing.
I do like sports games but preferred them on the Amiga
@@oldstylegaming i agree, i liked them better on the amiga too! Great list btw
Speed ball 2. Amazing game
Well, it's your list, so you can put 'em in any order you prefer! I too was surprised by the lack of shooters but you already commented multiple times on that. Have you tried Fire Shark though? Since you like Truxton...
im gonna make a dedicated Shump video
Have you got the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection for 360 and PS3? if not I think you'd like it has a lot of your choices on it.
My favorites that weren't already on your list:
Dune II The Battle For Arrakis
Tiny Toon's Busters Hidden Treasure
Sensible Soccer
Starflight
Buck Rogers
No I ain't got it ...I'll try get it though
Dune masterpiece
Nice list but where is castle of illusion?
BenLang77 it’s in my top 10 list somewhere in this thread 👍🏻🤣
@@MudSluggerBP while i loved Castle of Illusion back in the day....im not so keen on it now
Overrated even back then
Megadrive had so many good games and it's so hard to make lists like this, it's even harder to watch lists like this because there were so many games you're basically guaranteed to disappoint someone. I remember loving games like eternal champions, tiny toons acme all-stars and Shane Warne cricket which almost no one mentions haha
Eternal champion 🔥🔥🔥 ... Tiny Toons was my first playing Sega mega game 1995
Quite a few of these games I played, some I beat... some Sega Genesis Gems of mine are missing from this List...:
Alisia Dragoon (Never managed to beat, but loved game so much... especially the Main Character!
Damn my childhood right there ..... 🥱
Canny argue with the top 3 👍
Do you have a top 30 for snes video too?
You want me to do such a list?
Nice idea to put the start screen of the game at the END (not the beginning) of each presentation of a game. So you always have a good/epic finish for the presentation and everyone can read the title again.
(And you have no work putting title fields into your editing program 🤭)
Indeed great idea. And a good reminder. What is this cool games name? Aha. Check
Great list but.....where is Shadow Dancer ?
Excellent list. Personally, I'd swap out both Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 and replace them with Vectorman and Sonic 3 plugged into Sonic & Knuckles 👌🏻
