@trstnhn The Veloster N, depending on where you live is only a few grand cheaper than the Type R. You're better off saving your money for a Type R if you don't mind its looks. A Veloster N will never out pace a Type R.
I’ve watched this at least 4 or 5 times. Your b-roll on the different colors sitting together and separate zooms on the fronts, are the little things that you guys pay attention to that I appreciate sooo much. I’m planning on purchasing one of these but I didn’t know the color I wanted. I was afraid of the black not being able to see the subtle body lines, but I think the black shows them the most! first off i have to say that the straight pipes is the best channel on youtube . I love the fact they are Canadian , I am from Mississauga myself ! . the best detailed reviews for what you really want to know about a car ! i have watched every review from the very first one ! i am proud to say that i have purchased a performance blue Veloster N . Im so excited its unreal . i cannot wait to bring it to a straight pipes meet and hopefully meet you guys in person one day !! keep up the amazing work !!
Just bought one in Ontario, Canada and cannot wait to take delivery. The grins locked on your guys faces the entire time you were driving it had a decent amount to do with my decision lol. Great review!
I found you guys when I was car shopping because of your Elantra GT Sport video (which I bought, zero regrets). Subscribed instantly and I've been working through your back catalog since then. I was pumped when you drove the pre-production of this car, and OH MAN I WANT ONE. Next car, 100%. Thanks for publishing this on my birthday! I love your high end sports car reviews too, but I started watching because you also reviewed cars I could afford and would actually buy, so keep it up! Love you guys.
I watch and subscribe to a lot of car review channels but I think I've found my new favorite one! Great production and banter between the two of you! The reviews are the perfect length, not too short, not too long. Hope you guys get 1 million subscribers, well deserved!
Proud of you guys for putting the USD conversion directly into the video instead of making me Google it. Also, it's about damn time. I've been waiting for this video since the pre-production Veloster N video.
i agree hyundai killed the veloster name.. you cant make a shit car for a decade and then slap an N badge on it and expect people to apreciate that model for once now.. the veloster was a joke of a sports car. id buy an i30N or GENISIS N for sure if it was made and sold here.
I know it seems like that, but Hyundai has ALWAYS sold more Velosters in the US than Elantra GT's. As much as I want them to bring over the i30N as well, this is probably the smarter play. And who knows, maybe after a year or two if Veloster N sells well and the Elantra GT Sport N-Lines do well, they'll finally port over the proper i30N *fingers crossed*
Wow, anyone shopping for a GTI would be crazy not to look at this. Between this and the G70, Korea is killing it and I like that. You guys do a great job of conveying your enthusiasm and it's contagious. Keep up the great work!
I'm going to have to subscribe... Your editing is so great without being over-the-top with minutes-long B-roll blasting thump thump music in my ears. Great stuff, guys.
You guys are the main reason i finally own this car. My dream car was a fucking Hyundai and i couldnt be happier. Performance blue with performance package as god intended of course.
Thank you @TheStraightPipes for introducing me to this car, I picked one up this past Labor Day weekend and I look forward to my daily commute now. POP-POPS 🤩
I'd take this over all the others in the hatch segment. Price, style, warranty and fun are all near top. This channel does excellent work. It will continue to grow and become one of the greats.

Just an FYI. My gf and I went to the LA Auto show like we do every year. This year she surprised me by doing your guys' visor test in a few cars, yelling pass or fail accordingly. It was a pretty funny moment, seems I watch enough of your guys' videos for her to pick up on that!
Currently drive a mk6 GTI and love it. I would take the N over the GTI in regards to performance but I can't give up the refinement of the GTI. If the N came with heated seats and a sunroof I'd take it instantly.
@@phillippiscopo270 man, my heart hurts a little bit everytime i hear mention of the i30n and especially the i20n. the i20n is legit the perfect car for my needs and wants, but we don't get it in Canada...

You guys rock. Best car review channel around. Had me at "VISOR TEST". Your GTI video is what sold me on the 2018 VW GTI SE. Keep up the good work, and remember... Pop-pop, rzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Love this channel! One little nit pick. I encourage you to cut back on "But, whatever" and "For what it is" in your reviews. I think you are leaving more detailed information and descriptions out. Man I wish I could be part of your crew! Living my dream. I'll just have to keep living vicariously. Thank you both for taking the risk to make this channel work. I wish you nothing but HUGE success.
Wow, great channel. You make it fun, that's what counts. Other reviews are a bore compared to you two. Great chemistry and it sounds like you're really giving your opinion and not just saying what the manufacturer wants to hear. Look forward to other videos and I'm checking your archive just for some entertainment.
Honestly if all it did was put a good exhaust on it from the factory I would be in. I have a Stinger GT2 right now and love everything about it except the fact that it makes zero noise at all. a mid 90's minivan with an exhaust leak sounds better than it, unfortunately.
@@Beta4Life just bought my GT2 on Friday, super excited for it to get here. Here is the exhaust I like and will be getting, check it out. Not too loud and not raspy. th-cam.com/video/AANISiT_xp4/w-d-xo.html
Your reviews have gotten so good it’s crazy. Keep it up guys. I feel like I got to watch you guys graduate from amateurs to consummate pros. You guys are the masterclass now
You really cant compare those cars to a WRX/STI as they are AWD. Same goes for the Focus RS and VW GTI R. Although the STI, and RS is track focused out of the box so i guess its sorta in that bracket but the WRX has softer suspension so more of a daily all season hoon car out of the box. They also dominate in the snow / dirt. So, must say, gatta leave the comparison to the other FWD cars.
Im hoping the Veloster N stays for the long run. My first(and current) daily car is a 2015 Veloster Turbo, and I honestly love it SO much, and after seeing this video, im REALLY looking foward to possibly owning one of these in the future. Great review as always
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant channel! Really is a cut above in so many ways, and so damn well put together too... Lots of respect from here in England so keep up the outstanding work, chaps...
This is the Si-R that Honda should have built. Above the Si, below the Type-R, but this car looks so clean, so well built and built for fun. I think this is going to steal a lot of people away from the GTI, and SI/Sport Touring. My personal pet peeve of this car was that, I read on the Canadian Hyundai Website that they were bring this car into Canada in limited quantities. I'm hoping that the Veloster N program is successful, so that I'll be able to buy one next spring. Amazing content Jacob and Yuri!
@@alexandrefauchon7755 buddy you're speaking my language. I've always been a fan of the idea of the progression of Si, Si-R and then Type - R because if you wanted something engaging like the Type - R but with dialed back looks, and performance that might not be as "scary" or "out there". something that's more fun focused like the Veloster N in lieu of something thats meant to annihilate the tracks and then drive back like the Civic Type - R. if Honda were to adopt the SI/Si-R/Type-R progression, that would also open up the possibility to bring back an N/A VTEC motor. The Si could be the N/A Vtec model, and then like you said you have a Turbo Si-R, and then we would then have the Type-R. I remember when the Civic Si-R was still being made in Canada, they weren't all that common but boy were they different and cool. With the Shifter being so close to the wheel, the seats and the K20, even though it was detuned from the JDM version. We're living in a dream world tho bud. :/
@@xavierdesouza4089 definitely, I would dream that it comes true! I would really consider buying a civic si-r in some year if it existed. Personally, I love the look of the type r 2018 but it is a bit expensive and the sound is to quiet for me. I miss the era of Vtec engines that rev at 10,000 rpm. I sincerely find that the Vtec should be in the new civic SI and even in the touring. The Vtec is what made Honda's history and they have to keep it alive. Seriously imagine a SI-R Vtec turbo of 270hp with an exhaust worthy of the name offered for 35 000 Canadian it would be just crazy !!! Seriously I would even like to see them offer a base model at about $ 1500 more than the SI but with a fairly limited equipment because seriously we do not need all of those cameras that increase the price of the car. With the veloster and the rumors about the new celica, I hope that Honda will move and become what it was before. The problem is the S.U.V that prevents cars like the s2000 or the integra from seeing the day again. I remember the SI-R 1999 2000 it was really cool as a car. It will probably never happen but it would be crazy. The new honda linup is still nice but it is nothing compared to the 1990's lineup. I mean all japanese linup was so nice in the 90's (240sx, integra, supra, skyline, sti, etc)
They have the Civic Si HFP in 2018. It didn't sell well at all. My local dealers have had them since May, and they still sit in the showroom. CAD$35,000 for Si HFP that sell poorly vs CAD$41,000 for Type-R that still has waitlist I don't think there is a market for a trim that is above the Si
Originally I was considering type R but 5k or more ( February 2021 ) over sticker … I got the 2020 Veloster N and I am extremely happy. Almost exactly the same driving experience, able to keep with most 911 pilots on local roads …
I have been a GTI guy for over 20 years. I moved to a smaller town without a VW dealership. I drove one of these last week. Hands down more fun than any front wheel drove car I have driven. I am definitely going to buy one of these brand new very soon.
At the risk of sounding like a “non-enthusiast”, this car would sell much better if it had an automatic. You can’t deny that the GTI does so well because of the DSG.
Andreus Narain the dsg holds so many cars back from their full potential. I have no idea why anyone likes it. It feels like you hit a wall shifting through gears. No thanks. Manual or nothing on newer cars.
You know, this might be an unpopular opinion. But after driving a Veloster N and the Type R, I preferred the Veloster N 1000% more. It was more fun to drive, and two different transmissions for more people to actually enjoy the car.
Veloster N sacrifices practicality for a more raw sporty experience. Which is why it’s more fun than the type r. The type r is longer and more tuned for track driving and refinement. Which imo makes the veloster n more fun despite the type r being a more serious car (ironic considering how it looks). The veloster n drives more like how the type r looks than the type r does lol.
@REEL SIXX , that's what Hyundai marketing stands today. i30N is European market only (not even available in Korea) and Veloster N is what the rest of the world get. Apparently i30 sales is terrible outside of Europe and Veloster sales is terrible in Europe and that's deciding N model availability.
Antenox i30N is selling poorly because it handles more like an Elantra than a hot hatch. The reviewers that have driven both all seem to agree that the Veloster N is the better car
The best value sporty Hatchback on the market. Want the fastest, get a Type R. Want AWD, get the Subaru Impreza hatchback. Want german quilted seats, get a gti. Want to save money, get a Veloster Turbo, Civic Hatchback, or Elantra Hatchback. However, if you want the best 275 hp hatchback for less than $28k? Test drive the Hyundai Veloster N.
Type R is much slower than its competitors (golf R, S3, focus RS, etc). Type-R is only faster when you compare it to cheaper FWD cars (GTI, Si, Veloster N)
Guys I really really like it when you give us some background into why the designers and research development do what they do with a car. It always seems like we never know what causes a car to be what it is. Those decisions make it great and knowing why makes you great
This car is a game changer for sure, but I just couldn't see myself buying. Maybe used I'd give it a shot, but unless they bring the I30 N to North America, I'll just keep my current elantra gt.
@@26infamous all in all, I love it. I have the tech package and style package with a 6spd manual. I would highly recommend avoiding the pano roof at all costs. It's my least favorite feature of car. Lots of creaks and rattles, especially in the cold. What year were you looking at?
I just bought one for 19K I like the low key look I can not tolerate the veolster because of zero visibility I have owned an evo X before so I know how the turbo cars are but the automatic manual makes life easier. I just wish this had at least 230 HP in line with a GTI. But I couldn’t step in VW territory even though they offered me a GTI SE for 25100 before taxes which was still a good deal
@@humanfirst8981 that's a damn good deal for a GTI. All depends on what you want in the car. Features and reliability = Hyundai, interior quality and driving dynamics = VW. Did you buy the GT sport?
Awesome review! Thanks to Yuri for keeping satellite radio comment less than 2 seconds. The best review for vehicles in Canada (maybe even in North America) cheers
I bought a base Focus ST in 2017 after a bunch of research and watching your review. Once I realized I could get a new one for $20k USD I was completely sold and love it. Watching this makes me want to see a FWD hot hatch battle with the GTI, Veloster N, Type R and Focus ST to see how they match up. Thanks so much for the reviews!
I have the i30n and I really love it. But I like the look of the veloster n too! And i have to say that the front end of the veloster n looks better! 😬
Just drove my 2017 Elantra Sport 3000 miles CA to NC in 3 days, 35MPH. So much car for the $$ ! But I may have to buy this veloster!!! Thanks for a kick ass review!
It is faster than my 7.5 GTI for sure, sounds a lot better than my 7.5 GTI but my car is in my heart. I freakin love it, I wouldn't by a car because it's faster and sounds good over a car that I love because of what it is. GTI 🙂❤️
Had my N for a couple months now. Still loving it. In case anyone is watching this and considering buying, here's all my CONS for the car. (Don't worry, I'd still buy it again every time) -Turn radius is annoyingly large -Rear visibility is poor -Rearview mirror is mounted too high, so the view is pointed down, and you can only see about 100 ft behind you -there's a wide angle corner mirror on the driver side mirror, but I have the huge ass coupe door, I can just turn my head. On the passenger side where the actual biggest blindspot is, there ISNT a wide angle. Kinda weird. -launch control is finicky. Takes a couple tries. -slightly stiff suspension for street. You'll be bracing a little bit for holes and bumps. -defaults back to Normal mode on startup, defaults to rev matching off. It's quick to tap the flag twice on entry and becomes habit but still worth noting. This is probably because of some EPA regulations or some shit like that. -rare/costly maintenance. Rare oil weight, rare trans fluid, rare brake fluid. Definitely not negligible maintenance cost. -fuel efficiency WILL be less than advertised or you're driving it wrong. If you're getting above 25mpg (excluding ONLY highway) you bought the wrong car. -I have a manual, 2nd gear is a little rough to switch into, takes some time to get used to. But boy does it pull. 2nd gear above 3500 is the most forward Gs you'll probably get. -The car is NOT for going in a straight line. You WILL lose. Stick to the corners and you'll be punching way above.
Now give me an AWD version so I can rallyX it! I think.... they made this car just to knock your review scores out of the box. I didn't hear anything that was a negative. Seemed like a really FAST and frenetic review. When you get one to drive in your own time, I would love to see it with the box test. P.S. Good job on the times!
Really liking this. I'd like to test drive one back to back with a GTI. Reason I'd potentially choose one over the other (without having driven) GTI: 4 doors, rear end look, probably a slightly better interior Veloster N: Sound, Price, blue seat belts, Warranty
I have a Type R (with an exhaust) and my girlfriend bought the N ( getting here next week. ) Now i wouldnt trade my type r for an N but its definitely a sweet little car that can hold its own and im excited for her to get it. Doing our bests to buy these cars so you guys can keep driving them 😀 Come to Alberta and you can do the comparison with our cars.
Amazing how far Hyundai has come!!! My first ever car was a 1995 Hyundai Accent Sport which I loved and drove into the ground. My family has owned several Hyundai's ranging from the original Tiburon to the Vera Cruz. All of them have been bullet proof. Good to see people considering Hyundai not just for the price, but realizing they are quality vehicles (as verified by TheStraightPipes). Love the Veloster N! Great job as always on the review.
I have been watching your videos for quite some time now and I have to say, alongside the "review" itself, the cinematography of your videos is just SO great too. Like #521. This car is really exciting for all of the reasons you mentioned and the price is spot on. It would be a blast on the track, I'm sure. Jakob always makes it look easy. Not crazy about the Performance Blue color and for the U.S. versions I prefer the Ultra Black. Have a great weekend, fellas. ☮️
Type R definitely beats this car, buuut I also think this one is better as a street car for both the price and the driving dynamics, gonna be getting one next year for sure
@@chrishuber8930 I mean yeah but then you void your warranty and stuff. Don't get me wrong I definitely prefer the Veloster but you can't deny that the R has better performance right off the dealer even if it looks like a 12 year old designed it
I have the first year version of the Veloster and the wife has the 2013. The third door is great for people that have dogs and that want to toss groceries in the back seat. Two tails up from my girls Lily and Miri... not a gimmick a necessity! This will be the upgrade when I decide to upgrade... that said at 85K on the original... no issues!
I still love my mk7 GTI. But I think for our GTI buddies when y'all see one of these on the road make sure you are at least stage 1 tuned or else we gone get phucked.
Extremely enjoyable video - keep it up guys. I have the I30N and it really does put a smile on your face. Genuinely, every time I know I need to go out somewhere in the car, I’m happy! Phenomenal 1st true hot hatch from Hyundai. I love the wing more on the Veloster N but overall I feel the I30N looks better. Each to their own though....
Considering that this thing is 10 grand less than the Type R, the fact that it approaches the Type R in coolness and performance is pretty amazing. I've gotta try one of these!
The reason these two reviewers are so entertaining is because they are "Canadian EH!!!!!" Keep up the great work you fellow Canadians, you make us all proud. Now how about some "poutine", "maple syrup" and "Nanaimo Bars."

Black it is! I don’t watch every review but the ones I care about, you guys always knock it out of the park. 👍🏼👍🏼

This is really promising from Hyundai. I’m excited to see more N class cars from Hyundai and maybe even Genesis.
This video made me go out and buy a Veloster N the next day. Loved it ever since I bought it. The exhaust sound is amazing.

Proud of you guys for putting the USD conversion directly into the video instead of making me Google it.
Also, it's about damn time. I've been waiting for this video since the pre-production Veloster N video.
I30 N would sell better in North America i feel. Great review as always
It is coming to North America?
i agree hyundai killed the veloster name.. you cant make a shit car for a decade and then slap an N badge on it and expect people to apreciate that model for once now.. the veloster was a joke of a sports car. id buy an i30N or GENISIS N for sure if it was made and sold here.

Honestly if all it did was put a good exhaust on it from the factory I would be in. I have a Stinger GT2 right now and love everything about it except the fact that it makes zero noise at all. a mid 90's minivan with an exhaust leak sounds better than it, unfortunately.

PLEASE compare this to the Civic Type R, VW GTI, Focus ST, and maybe a WRX/STI. We love you guys
I feel like the Type R is more in the Golf R, Focus RS category. Despite the fact it does not have AWD.
This thing doesn't compare to any of the cars u mentioned. Stupid comparison.
This is a WRX ST GTI and Si competitor not STI Type R RS or Golf R

This is the Si-R that Honda should have built. Above the Si, below the Type-R, but this car looks so clean, so well built and built for fun. I think this is going to steal a lot of people away from the GTI, and SI/Sport Touring. My personal pet peeve of this car was that, I read on the Canadian Hyundai Website that they were bring this car into Canada in limited quantities. I'm hoping that the Veloster N program is successful, so that I'll be able to buy one next spring. Amazing content Jacob and Yuri!
Xavier de Souza i want the sir black!!! It would be cool with the base civic engine but turbocharged
You are so right. I'm at ATM ready to select withdraw and enter. Honda needs to wake up.
CAD$35,000 for Si HFP that sell poorly vs CAD$41,000 for Type-R that still has waitlist
I don't think there is a market for a trim that is above the Si
Originally I was considering type R but 5k or more ( February 2021 ) over sticker … I got the 2020 Veloster N and I am extremely happy. Almost exactly the same driving experience, able to keep with most 911 pilots on local roads …
Designed On the Nurburgring - Dislike from James May :D
LeThanos I had the exact same reflection. This should definitely be James’ most hated car!
And the other two would go bananas over it XD
I have been a GTI guy for over 20 years. I moved to a smaller town without a VW dealership. I drove one of these last week. Hands down more fun than any front wheel drove car I have driven. I am definitely going to buy one of these brand new very soon.
At the risk of sounding like a “non-enthusiast”, this car would sell much better if it had an automatic.
You can’t deny that the GTI does so well because of the DSG.
This man speaks the truth.
valid point but Honda also sells many Civic Si and those are manual only
I also see a lot of FoST, FiST, and STI, which are all manual only in the US,
2020 is reportedly getting an 8 speed auto.
I think it is good they did manual first, but I agree, I personally would prefer something like DSG in this
Andreus Narain the dsg holds so many cars back from their full potential.
They need to make an Elantra GT N. I want four doors + hatch, not three doors + hatch.
Elantra GTN is also known as i30N and will never be available in Americas.
I watched this and did a ton of research on Veloster N and just got the 2020 for my new car and it's amazing! I was a previous VW GTI Rabbit owner!

I just bought one for 19K I like the low key look I can not tolerate the veolster because of zero visibility I have owned an evo X before so I know how the turbo cars are but the automatic manual makes life easier. Thebest review from the best reviewers! Thanks again guys for another awesome review.
It seems like a legitimate hot hatch now. I’m not sure I like the 3 door setup though. I prefer the look of the driver side over the passenger side.
Had my N for a couple months now. Still loving it. In case anyone is watching this and considering buying, here's all my CONS for the car. (Don't worry, I'd still buy it again every time)
-Turn radius is annoyingly large
-Rear visibility is poor
-Rearview mirror is mounted too high, so the view is pointed down, and you can only see about 100 ft behind you
-there's a wide angle corner mirror on the driver side mirror, but I have the huge ass coupe door, I can just turn my head.
