I can understand why this presentation is voted amongst Prof. Peterson's best. The mention of ways in which even judges can be influenced in their decision-making just by way of an unpleasant courtroom environment or how hungry they are is very powerful. How about the impact that a certain courtroom environment may have on a defense attorney and whether or not he or she is hungry (or ill) during summing up before a jury? Or how about a rumor which negatively changes his or her attitude towards his or her client? Human factors. Yep. There sure are plenty of ways to negatively influence people in all walks of life, including but not limited to, those engaged in various court duties.

Now I just hope that I encounter them and get to tell them to go off themselves because as far as I'm concerned that would be best for the world. And when I really think about it I understand why I thought I shouldn't have stood up for myself, however I can't let go of it feeling so wrong... Now I believe I will try to stand up for what I believe in, no matter who against. If I must I will leave my home and live on the streets in order to live my values maybe that would be best.

We all feel unfaired treated sometimes.... Life is not fair but you can try to equalize it if you choose. At least not fight against the equalizer. I feel often my life is deeply unfair, wrongly judged, treated, mistewarded, not were I am because of others dont realized my talents and potential. Its a very naturally human state when your gap between what you do and what you have potential to achieve differs very much. And its ok to feel that way. Feelings, thoughts happens automatically. To say you can not feel this feelings, all those bad feelings is just like denying you water, sleep or food. Just allow you to feel this feelings, all bad feelings but not get you along that destructive train. Be the observer, life, thoughts, feelings has its own life, independendent of you. You are not in control. Trying to take control of it just makes you more controlled by it. Ok... Its there but its not me. I choose my actions more wise than falling into such traps

I suffered some kind of breakdown/ptsd eight years ago
(I have recuperated somewhat but still suffer consequences)
and have since noticed that when I am stressed for some reason
(not ordinary press for time), I temporarily get "germophobia".
The insight into this helps a bit.
(Although I would not dream of NOT washing my hands
when I come home, before I eat and (of b-y course) after going to the loo.)
While they are interesting, the findings that JBP talks about,
I wonder how disgust augmentation from emotion, hunger etc works
with the fact that people tend to become more conservative with age.
Does disgust sensitivities increase with age, too?
Also, I would very much like to see the evidence for cleanliness being the difference
between "honour cultures" (dishonourable shame-cultures) and Western cultures.
"Honour culture" and clan culture is often explained by the absence of a central power.
Agreed, a couple of centuries ago, extramarital sex was punishable by death
in many Western cultures (although the culprits were rarely executed), and shameful
    - but we hardly led more cleanly lives here than they did in the Orient in those days.
(Rather less cleanly lives, as we did not have turkish baths.)
And I have still not heard of a single person in the Western culture
that killed a daughter/granddaughter/sister for "honour" reasons.
And certainly not anyone whose actions were condoned by others.
(Wives and their lovers, yes, as Carlo Gesualdo did.)

    • @lizzyjeanne
      @lizzyjeanne 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

David Apeji as a conservative myself, I think that Conservatism doesn’t make you less inclined to avoid pathogens in this case. It makes you less likely to believe that an overreaching government is capable of keeping you safe from the pathogens. And I would rather risk getting sick and be able to feed my family than stay safe and starve or be evicted from my home. So I have a high amount of disgust for a mayor that thinks that he can keep me safe and prevent me from getting a virus by keeping me hostage in my own home while my life slowly falls apart.

I find shame in my cowardice, to address an (intoxicated) event of a male colleague, to firstly, be unable to trust him (again, though tolerate the specter for many a year), and then not intervening when he did it again against another person, whom I was related, for my fear of the economic consequences to the company that I had ownership in.
I was a coward and I live with this constantly.
I am aware of this at least on three occasions which changed life trajectories remarkably, (for the worse, I fear), of three individuals, myself included.
After a Decade, I still cannot get over the unfair treatment, but more so, that I chose to be impotent, fearing a deleterious outcome (economically) for myself; self-preservation of the narcissist. ;-(
We changed travel policy "covertly/quietly" , so that no other staff member found themselves (male, though previously not an issue), with this person especially while intoxicated.
Every night I force myself into a trance, to not be "yelling" (vocalizing) and rerunning my shame through my mind.
I hold no Malice. I believe he was just lonely for male "friends", and this was his way of showing male' friend affection, but it did not go down well.

STilI feel, after curfew and social, distancing is over I will need to be cautious where I go due to,potential stranger danger reactions from locals. EVen though Americans have not been many either the virus still I know some people look at tourists askance here.

This is also known as having the last word, feels good, but the respondent has another ‘last word’. It’s great when you do get the right line, at the right time. Ever try blowing a raspberry, in less serious moments. I was married to a narcissist and I could never get my point over. He could follow me to keep his point going. He died in 2020, I guess I got the last word. I’m a Roman Catholic indoctrinated woman and guilt comes easily to me, although I’m learning to be kinder to myself. I like when JP’s humor comes out.

So basically our political orientation is influenced by earthly desires or the life-state of hunger among other lower life-states or worlds such as hell (rage), animality, and anger (perversion) in the buddhist cosmology. There is a book written by Fyodor Dostoevsky called Hunger too. I see similarities between the writings of Daisaku Ikeda and Jordan Peterson's.

    Correlation is not causation
The real number might not be 70%. The real number might be 1 or 2 percent.
But lawyers who note the advantage, and schedule their court meetings after lunch, are more likely to be good lawyers.
And good lawyers are more likely to be granted parole for their clients.
Perhaps good lawyers are roughly 70% more likely to win their parole cases? :) :)
Just an example, I’m sure there’s many possible explanations

    • @BrandonOpel
      @BrandonOpel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@paperEATER101There have been numerous studies linking hunger to lower willpower. When your willpower is low you tend to make the decision that is easy or quick. If you're a judge you'll probably be disgusted with perpetrator so you act upon that instead of using logic in your decision and say to hell with them. This hunger thing doesn't only relate to judges, but everywhere. Trying to get a loan? Go the bank after lunch. Want a raise? Talk to your boss after they eat. Buying a new car and trying to haggle price, after lunch. I was an actor and it was pretty much written in stone that if you auditioned before lunch or toward the end of the day that you were never going to get the part.

Is the idea of a upper and lower peak - i.e. a hierarchy - akin to a theological notion of "higher" being closer to heaven, that is where the good is and where the resources are aplenty? As opposed to being "lower", where all the decay falls and where the snakes are, and where ultimately our bodies end up: in the ground ?

I see daily how my friends are going on vacations, have a good medical aid, while i am stuck what i got. Life is not fair, i know, but must it be this hard?
