Russian citizen here. I've heard of this Abdulov thing for years, especially in like late 2000s - early 2010s, when Russian TH-cam (and Rutube - Russian copycat video hosting site) scene was young. I think the main kickstarter for the growth of quality videos in Russia was Ilya Maddyson, who is often compared to AVGN, though he never had the same level of production, but arguably was a better comedian. Also his whole career kinda developed in a different way. I think he's a streamer these days. Anyway, I think a lot of these Abdulov adepts were just huge fans of his and some other quality creators at the time. The reason they picked Abdulov? God knows. I think it's because he'd died recently and was very revered by all the boomers (aka parents of these clowns). So it was probably the natural rebellious thing to make fun of him. I dunno though, I never cared too much to research this. lurkmore.to (like a Russian equivalent of Encyclopedia Dramatica) says their main goal was to unite against bad video creators. This explains why they targeted ozon671games, who rose to fame after Maddyson mocked him in one of his videos, after which he made an angry video reply and then went on to stalk him outside of his house. Vanomas was another TH-camr that had beef with Maddyson (possibly a jokey one). But he is most infamous for the low quality of videos and very bad critiques of games. One of his traits was to find a blurry texture in an otherwise extremely well-looking game (all games have SOME bad textures), and then just shit on the game's graphics and give it a low score. He is also well known for his "deep analysis" videos, where he'd sit in a wifebeater tanktop in front of a ironing board, looking like a middle-aged alcoholic and just talk about some subject without any understanding of it and using lots of swear words. He just always had this hillbilly vibe about him, which made him fun to watch for many people, but also drew a lot of hatred to him. But tbh, neither me nor any one of my friends never gave a shit about this Abdulov thing, and always considered it lame. I think that was the general consensus among adequate people (you can see the same sentiment on lurkmore.to as well). Whenever I encountered some online, I found them more annoying than anything. They always acted very immaturely and spammed you with their own local memes, which you couldn't understand. I think most of them were kids. Btw Yandex is not a Russian TH-cam copycat, it started as a Russian Google copycat, but grew into a bunch of other things. Also Sakhalin is not really a Russian word... Well, it is a Russian transliteration of, I think, a Manchu word. I think the original word was something like Sakhaliyan.
Wow, dude, what a trip. Being Russian I remember seeing Abdulov adepts over the years, giggled a little bit at their videos but mostly ignored them. So interesting to see that they produced a Doom mod game and then turned it into a full fledged UE game.
It's so fascinating seeing these obscure and personal games that most of us would never find out about. Such a great and interesting video this is, I'd love to see more of this stuff.
6:18 - the dude is Vanomas, an infamous youtuber who's known mostly for bad letsplays and some memes that stuck around in Eastern Europe. Kind of Russian DarkSidePhil, only a bit more self-aware. 05:40 "Snickers. Health: +10. Long time ago, in times of Soviet regime, people liked to prank random fools. They put Snickers on the ground for some poor sap to pick it up, only to find a piece of shit inside - which then followed by a lead pipe to the head. Those were fun times indeed. Nowadays, the prank isn't used anymore due to wide availability of Snickers bars. Still, it's a good way to buff yourself up after some minor fights."
Utterspartan: "Although, trust me, this video is gonna go places you may not expect" 33 Minutes later I have to say this video went places I didn't expect.
I hit the 2 minute mark and I see what looks like a Doom character face inside a Chaos Symbol that I know for a fact is used by Eurasian and NeoPagan slavic political movements. This is gonna be good.
NeoPagan political movements? That's interesting. I just figured it was the 8 pointed star of Chaos from y'know, Warhammer. Never even thought to bring it up. Thank you, I'm gonna look this up.
@@UtterSpartanYep. Here is them I believe en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasia_Party they are sorta of a mix between Nazbol and 3rd position. Here are some good keywords that should help you look this stuff up: Pan Eurasianism, Pan Slavism, Hyperborea, Roman von Ungern-Sternberg (considered a hero by some of them), neo paganism
@@l0lLorenzol0l That's really interesting. I think the chaos emblem used in Call of Abdulov is a little more like the generic one you see in other fantasy things compared to the one used by the Eurasia Party. But I can't discount this from being an influence. I'll definitely bring this up in the follow up video. Thank you.
@@UtterSpartan Yeah it could be a generic one, but given how deep the entire Lore is its a possibility. I know for a fact there is a lot of occult shit that goes on in Russia and there is a lot of subcultures like that. I remember hearing for example about some neo pagan ideas about how slavs are the "true" aryans and how they are descendent from Hyperboreans and shit about that. It's a really deep rabbit hole and I remember hearing about how the people finding this stuff out were going on the deep web to learn about it (had to do with lore they were making for a game mode. Look up The New Order HoI4 if you are interested). Neo-nazism with slavic characteristics, neo paganism, national bolshevism, tsar restoration, theocracy and such forms of goverment and political ideas are all althought not popular somewhat "common" in Russia by western standards. Monarchism is quite popular compared to a lot of places, with a decent ammount of russians saying they would not mind to see a return of the Tsar. Nazbol for all its meme potential was a actual party though I belive it got dissolved. Communism is still a thing in some places, and just like you have people in the USA that go on about being free citizens and articles of confederation you have a subculture in Russia that thinks *the USSR is still alive* and the current government is a fake one. NFKRZ has a video in it, look it up. About the best tip I can give you is find a russian speaker, someone watching this is bound to have the skill and it will make these searches much easier.
I did not knew about this game as i truly entered internet in 2012-14. Its that my parents wouldnt let me get too much time there, i understand why they did this.
I mean, couldn't you just have asked some English speaking russians? Also, the part where the game went "BLYAD!" was funny. I liked it. It made me laugh.
@UtterSpartan I'm pretty sure the Desert Eagle sounds are the same as the one from Postal 2, but as you say, it might actually be called gunshot01.wav The model could be from Postal 2 as well but I'm not sure about that one
So, this is a DOOM total conversion, created as a celebration of a Pastafarianism-esque joke religion that pretends to worship a 50s-era actor that was started by the tight-knit fandom of an avant-garde video game reviewer from *Russia?* ...That is *awesome.*
Great vid by the way. I was heavily invested in the AbdulovTV community for pretty much the entire time it lasted as a native Russian speaker and a CIS country resident and only now understand how confusing it all can be for an English-speaking outsider. Honestly I wish some of the Abldulo vids were translated to English because they are extremely fun to watch, but a lot of it is simply untranslatable, particularly because russian shit talking and swearing is so diverse and creative at points, especially the shit Abdul could come up with. Really wish I could just upload that knowledge to your heads so you can bust your asses laughing at the greates hits of Abdul.
About Vanomas and Abdul conflict: in 2011 Vanomas started an event, where he will get a footage of games captured by GTX580 and Vanomas as a reward will promote GTX580 owner's TH-cam channel. Abdul bought a GPU, but Vanomas refused to collaborate so the war was started. They had some tensions before but the real conflict in internet counts from this. Also Vanomas is actually a "sinner #2", the "sinner #1" is Ozon671games, in western internet more known as "crying salute guy" - they blamed him in collection of garbage, alcoholism and pdflia (i hope you get the las word, don't want to write it correct in YT)
About mushrooms: you fight against vanomas fans which affected "maslachezation" virus - fictional disease which spreading by vanomas videos and by vanomas itself. 1 infected unit called "maslyonok" which means "suillus" on russian.

The generic gunshot noise the Golden Desert Eagle makes is also used in ‘The House Of The Dead 2’ and ‘Shadow The Hedgehog (2005)’.
It's like Grezzo 2, but russian.
That's the first thing that came to my mind as I saw devil-eyed men in the church.
Ueah thats pretty accurate. Both are Doom mods whose entire plot and setting are inside jokes about a country's culture and situation.
I have to say, for some reason, I felt completely unsettled throughout the whole video. Good job!

Postal 2 was big in Russia, they even did the expansions and sequel that shall not be named over there.

the golden desert eagle sound effect is probably taken from postal 2 and the model for it is literally a reskin from postal 2.....or I think it is
