This really makes me want to start figure skating after all. Even though I'm still young, my mind always tells me how "it's probably too late to start doing it" and how "you should start doing this when your age is still a single digit", which obviously isn't true at all. It really motivated me (since I'm still looking for a sport), so let's go look where I can try it out :D And nice job with your progress, good luck with your future training!!
Iris de Graaf I am so so happy that yet another is joining our adult skating community! By all means go and sign up for some lessons! Just search on Google for figure skating clubs near you 😊 and just because we started late doesn't mean we can't become good and at least get some of our doubles!
Guess what, I have joined a nearby figure skating club now and I'm currently doing their figure skating camp (since it's summer, there aren't normal lessons). It's only been 5 days and I've learned the waltz jump and have started with the salchow now too!! Though I'm still far from perfect, it's so much fun! I only need smaller skates though, current ones are too big........ sigh But again, thank you so much for the video! It motivated me enough to go try it out❄️❤️
flowersandragons Wow your progress is REALLY GOOD 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I’m 11 not sure how old u are and before the Covid-19 Pandemic I would have private coaching twice a week the whole day 😂😂😂 if you’re wondering how I able to skate for normally 8 hours it’s because I’m homeschooled. And I’m now in level 3 and still not learning that ✨yet. I don’t even know what level it’s in Hahahaha. I just need to learn backward crossover and backward stroking to level up yayyyyyyy!!!!!!!
Congrats! Happy to hear, wish you all the best in your skating journey. Remember: work hard, even on the difficult days, don't get discouraged, and persevere. Skating is a tough sport but also very rewarding.
OMG!! Your speed, flow and fluidity are G.O.A.L.S. This vid definitely captured how strong you are (look at the height and speed of those jumps and spins! Insane!)
Thank you for Sharing your story i am Just 16 but i already think that it's too late for me to begin with ice skating, even my Family says so, telling me that i should have started when i was Younger. But lately expecially After the Olympic Winter games (Alina) i am Having more of a Boost to make Something out of me... I don't really believe that it's never too late but i will try and use the time thats left...Thank you for encouraging me♥️
Cuentya Lee GOGO GO!!! Did you know that Carolina Kostner who just competes at the Olympics is 31 years old? Also, some of the people who are at the Olympics had been skating for less than 15 years.... Ok well don't get your hopes up, but it's definitely never too late (unless you literally can't walk cuz you're so old) so don't listen to anyone!! And you're younger than me!! I wish I could have started 5 years ago. If you work hard, you can still get to a pretty high level and get at least some of your doubles!
Natalia Shershakova OMG it means soooo much to me that you answered. Thank you sooo much ♥️ I recently informed myself and next i will go to a beginner course and will probably start iceskating.😍 Little things like that, to get encouragement even from someone i don't know helps me soo much to get through hardships and to be confident. Thank you and good luck ♥️
I've been skating for over 20 years since I was a kid and I still can't spin. The nearest indoor ice is an hour drive and we don't have it year round. People would drive over our outdoor rink, so sometimes the skating area consisted of a patch over gravel just four feet across. I took a few private lessons last time a few years ago and advanced a ton and it was awesome. I love tooling around changing edges and doing turns and a jump here and there. I wish, of course, that I had better opportunity and drive as a kid, but it's never too late. A lot of adults want to learn-more than kids in some places, apparently, and if competing is what you want to do, there are competitions for all levels, unless you live in a total crap town. It just depends on your motivation to do something. I'm not too motivated to drive an hour on bad roads to skate very often, but I am pretty motivated to drive 2.5 hours to show my orchids. One tip though- theres a girl who does a rental skate vs real skates video. She doesn't say why the rentals suck, but if they don't have any ankle support, it will be really difficult to do much of anything. If your blades are dull, you'll slip. I have "intermediate" "real" boots and they are like freaking..ski boots. Oh yeah...you know the first cutting edge movie? The girl? A lot of that is really her skating. The coach said she wished she could have found her at a younger age because she could have been a real competitor, but she did all that in just the time it took to make a movie with a real coach, so it seems that with proper instruction, the learning curve is pretty quick and it was for me the one year I took lessons. I took maybe four or five is all and I learned all the jumps. I could already skate backwards and turn on one foot, do a waltz jump and a toe loop, but those are super simple jumps. Just go. You'll hate yourself for not trying it out. Make a commitment that you'll go at least five times or something. Start there.
Just make sure you get proper skates with blades you can spin on! I didn't start spinning till mid-June of last year even though I started figure skating in January because I didn't have proper skates.
Do you have a recommendation? I know zero lingo, but I know what the rocker radius is. Mine are 8 and I think 7 would be better. We have no shops, so I can't go ask a sales person, and I'd rather take advice from a skater, to be honest.
Well then you must not have seen this: th-cam.com/video/Zj2foAQHQx8/w-d-xo.html this guy is doing camel spins, axels, and double salchows after one year. But thanks 😄 I am obsessed with this sport and won't stop until I get a double axel
Your welcome :) I skated for the first time in 20 years last winter but only four or five times. This season I've been skating consistently for about 2 months (3 days a week) so I'm still very much a beginner. How many hours/days a week did you skate to get to this level? Was it a full year or did you take spring/ summer off ?
Jan-apr I took amateur group lessons at my university, 8 in total. I'd have 1 lesson per week and skate another 2-4 hours per week individually. May-Aug I had more professional coaching. About 15 group lessons and 3 half hour private lessons. I practiced 2-3 times a week for 1.25 hours on top of my lessons. Sept-Dec I took another 8 group lessons at uni and practiced 3 hrs/week on top of that.
Spins are my worst element. I only started leaning one foot spins in mid June because I didn't have figure skates until then (I had rec skates that look like figure skates but they're not). So be sure you have real figure skates if you don't already! I wear Jackson Elles.
I started on Jackson Mystiques which at apparently not really meant for anything other than basic stroking so I can relate! I upgraded to Jackson freestyles a month ago which have a WAY more supportive boot and aspire blade. They definitely took some getting used to, especially the bigger toe pick but over all they are a much better for my skating :) I got used to spinning on the rec skates, albeit incorrectly lol, so it's been a challenge getting used to spinning on the new blades! I can tell it's gonna be a long road with spinning as it's my worst element as well /: but anyway you definitely look like someone who had been skating for years! Stick with it and I'm looking forward to more of your videos! I'll keep posting videos of my progress as well :)
I’m 24 and I’ve been doing Ballet ever since I was 4 and now I really wanna learn something new. I will probably start learning figure skating next month 😊 (probably with some kids but I don’t care. I just hope we’ll get along :))
That's amazing! You'll probably have a much easier time learning than me because of your extensive dance background. I did 10 years of karate which helps with things like balance and body awareness, but I feel like ballet is better, and gymnastics is the ultimate precursor.
13agility well isn't that mean!! Maybe you should talk to them in person and try to negotiate. Remember Ice Princess (18 year old in a class of little kids)? Don't give up on starting lessons, keep looking and trying!
I’m 19 now and i started figure skating just before i turned it in February. From my very first lesson on the ice i fell in love with it, i remember barely being able to do a forward two foot glide, wearing my big chunky blue rental boots lol 😆... purchased my own skates the second lesson in, Jackson Mystiques... it’s been 5 months and i’ve just started learning my sit spin, first part of scratch spin (spinning holding my leg out), working on waltz, salchow and toe loop. I literally live and breathe figure skating! When i’m not at the rink i’m constantly watching youtube videos of it like yours or browsing online for things i can buy, I’m trying on new Edea skates tomorrow as it’s way past my time for an upgrade. Hoping the Chorus won’t feel too stiff for me so fingers crossed! Your progress is amazing btw. Those jumps are absolute goals! i hope i can be up to where you are soon enough!
That's amazing, I'm really glad that you're enjoying figure skating so much. Jumps are more my thing, I jump high, but struggle with spins sooo much. As for the boots, I doubt that you should be going for such a high level boot (meant for doubles) at this time. I have been wearing Jackson Elles (support rating of only 35) for a year now and haven't even broken them down yet, even with all the singles I do. Although they put me into that boot because I'm so petite. I would definitely advise you to have the experts fit you for the right boot for your weight and skating level :) A good choice for you might be Jackson Freestyle or Competitor something like that. Or, if Edeas, perhaps the Overture (stiffness 48) versus Chorus (stiffness 70!!). But definitely see what they have to say, and who knows which skates you'll end up with! Let me know which skates you end up getting :D
Natalia Shershakova thank you, you too! that’s awesome i can definitely see jumps are your thing, i’m not sure whether i’ll be a spinner or a jumper yet i’m equally at the same level as the other lol. Yeah, i originally was going to opt for overtures but since talking to lots of people and coaches they seem to think the chorus is a better choice as it will last a lot longer and apparently the difference in stiffness (while it looks like a lot) isn’t all that different, especially an adult skater? Even with all that in mind i’m still skeptical, so i’ll just see what the Edea dealer has to say tomorrow I guess 🙂 This video is sorta dated now, i’d love to know how all of your skills look now! what are you working on? Btw i’m from Sydney. nice to meet you. who knows, maybe i’ll upload some videos of my skating soon! 😄
updattee going for chorus, it’s actually not as stiff as it’s made out to be. the girl reckons i’m a lot better off in them and they’ll last a really long time rather than the step down which will break down fast. she said most adults she fits start in them and are happy with them. so yay!
yeahloz okay well if the Edea dealer believes that the extra stiffness won't hurt your skating/your feet, then that's good that you got a more long lasting boot. I've heard too that Edeas work differently and that you don't overboot as much in them as you do in other brands when you choose a stiffness that is higher than that required for your level. I hope you like them!!! And I hope you don't struggle as much with arch pain as I did (I tried 3 pairs of insoles).
Natalia Shershakova thank you! i can’t wait to skate in them on Monday! just getting the blade put on, i went with coro ace. ❤️ How’s your skating going?
@@slurrpppp5376 not sure if you've seen my 3 year progress video but I haven't actually landed mine yet, although I was THIS close before coronavirus started. I think I've just never really been afraid to fall. I jump high and fall a lot and don't get hurt. So maybe the first step would be to get comfortable with falling and work on getting more height in your jumps if they're not already high. But it's also a question of whether you're actually ready to work on axels. You have to be very comfortable on the ice and have great technique on your jumps (waltz, loop), and have good technique for axel prep exercises (e.g. waltz snap). So take a step back and make sure the technique is there. I wasn't ready until the end of my 3rd year of skating.
Wow...I've been practising ice-skating for 3 years and I still can't do these things like you, because the first 2 years I ice-skated with another coach different to this one who teaches jumps, so actually is 1 year that I've trying them. Anyway, you're pretty good at it, even though it's only 1 year you're practising. Keep going😉😘😘💪💪
Thanks! Jumps are definitely my stronger element. You can perform a jump and maybe not get every part right but still land it. Spins, however... They have to be perfectly executed or else they fail. Keep practicing!!! Watch TH-cam videos (the channel "Thinice" is GREAT for jumps). And lose the fear, dont be afraid to fall 😄
You're doing so amazing, you'll be landing axels soon enough!!! I hope I can be near where you are at the one year mark! Keep working hard, your elements are looking so good :) x
Imone!OnIce thanks so much!! Yeah the Axel is absolutely my next step. But I won't have a coach until May so in the next 3 months it's up to me to prepare myself for the Axel. I have started off ice training and rotation practice. Also gonna start on ice Axel prep drills such as backspin, waltz loop, and waltz backspin. Hopefully by the end of my summer I will have a consistent Axel. But I also need to get even more height on my jumps and enter them with more speed, which takes a lot of courage...
Good to hear about your off-ice training! With strength and practice the height will come, I'm sure you're dedicated enough to achieve them :) I'm getting my first private lesson tomorrow so I'm super excited to start improving, I would love to land an Axel someday so I'm keen to see your progress! All the best! x
I'm 21 and just recently signed up for adult lessons. My first class is a little less than a week from today. I'm a little nervous and sometimes I feel a bit discouraged because I didn't start when I was young. This video is very inspiring however!
Carly Dobie omg that is so so exciting!!! Best of luck, I know you'll do well. Biggest tips are to get proper skates (at least the Jackson Artiste) that have ankle support and a proper blade with a rocker and bottom pick or else you won't be able to spin - I learned that the hard way. And PRACTICE ON YOUR OWN. If you're struggling, practice until you turn blue and you'll get it!
Thanks a lot for this video! I started ice skating when I was 6 and had to stop 2 years later....now I'm 23 can barely stand on my feet on the ice haha -.-' I want to start this sport again and your watching what you've learned in 1 year gives me lots of motivation!!! :)
I really admire your spins and your jumps. I can really see that that your passion translates into the impressive skills that you have right now. You inspired me a lot to continue skating again. You’re amazing! 👏💪
Jo Meow thank you so much, it means a lot. The last four months have been mentally difficult skating-wise, because I have plateau'd and am not progressing as fast as I wish I was. But thanks for your encouraging words, it helps keep my head high and keep trying.
I'm almost 21 and I am absolutely terrible at skating ;_; you make me really want to learn!! I'm terrified that i'll make a fool out of myself if i go for lessons though X'D
That's what lessons are for, to become better!! And if you would prefer to learn how to skate first before taking lessons, ask a friend who knows how to skate to teach you. You can absolutely learn figure skating, no matter how old you are, so put your fear aside and just do it.
OMG haha you really inspired me! I just started skating lessons this year (I'm 22 1/2) and I'm right at pre-alpha. There are times when I think "too late" or "you'll never be good at it" cuz i started really late. Watching you do these elements well after a year excites me to go back into skating soon!
Juan Carlos Ojano there are people who start in their 40s. Never too late!!! My biggest tip for you is to lose whatever fear you might have (e.g. fear of falling) because mental blocks are what prevent us from progressing. Learn how to fall in a relaxed and safe way, and you'll be good to go!!!
How often do you practice skating in a week? And what are your off-ice exercises? I couldn't skate as often as I could, and I still haven't got my own pair of skates, so I'm planning to get one soon (the rental skates always gives me blisters haha). I'd love to compete someday! :))
Juan Carlos Ojano I skate roughly 3 times per week. I am not doing nearly as much off ice as I should be 😂 school..... Definitely get your own skates. Jackson Classiques are a good option to start. Make sure you get a pair with proper figure skating blades that have a large toe pick and a rocker. Get fitted at a figure skate shop if possible. I couldn't start spinning on one foot until 5 months after I started because for the first 5 months I didn't have real figure skates.
Tell me about it. I'm probably as addicted to skating as heroin addicts are addicted to heroin. Skating is a drug, and the best kind. Totally makes you feel like you're on top of the world. Best of luck to you, with practice you can go really far, even as an adult!!!
Natalia Shershakova it is. It has always been my dream and now that I finally came true I know what i was missing in my life, that empty space inside of me is not there anymore ❤️
barkingtree88 thank you!! This year has been slow so far in terms of progress due to various circumstances, but hoping to get that camel spin and axel by the end of the year!
Naomi Martinez I'm glad to hear that you're starting and that I gave you hope 😄 good luck with your skating. Anything is possible (except maybe the Olympics). Just be sure to get proper figure skates as soon as you are able to.
Haha, I'll be posting the 2 year progress video soon, and I can say that the only goal I have reached is the camel spin, and even that's a bit shakey... But I've brushed up on my singles and spins!
ahh i know this is late but i really like the speed on your scratch spins :) here’s some constructive criticism salchows - try to swing your right leg in front of your left before taking off instead of taking off with it at the middle, i find that it helps with the height and looks better overall slaloms - try moving your arms left and right to help make bigger curves backspin - before pulling your arms in to spin, putting your left arm in front and right arm to the side (making an L position) will help with balance sit spins - they’re definitely low enough!! if your coach allows it, swinging your free leg around bent may help with speed when descending. you can straighten it after a few revolutions something else i’ve learned is that landing with your arms in the same L position said above really helps with balance. i think that everything you can do is extremely impressive for only one year of skating lessons, it really does blow my mind... you’re amazing, keep up the good work!! (sorry for the long comment lol)❤️❤️
Your sit spins are like my goals. I only had an absolute perfect, low, no travel sit spin, and it was long enough only ONCE. Also #relatable with the Lutz. My mom told my coach that I kept talking to her about how I needed to get my Lutz, so I was so mad. I had i great lesson with her that day until the end. “Oh before I let you go let me see that Lutz of yours.”
Haha I still don't have my lutz. I've been working meticulously on my other singles and the lutz is still on the back burner.... and yeah my sit spin is by far my best spin. Now I have 10 revolutions, 2 year progress video coming very soon! Other spins are so-so... I'm more of a jumper
Wow! I've been really wanting to start & I'm 21 so this makes me feel like it's not too late to get into figure skating & maybe compete one day! Good luck with everything. You're doing great! :)
Bonnie HeatON never ever too late 😉 I'm also planning to start competing in a few years once I am at a good level. Go for it, don't delay, sign up for some lessons today!
came here you tell you that am start at 22!!!! keep gliding~💕 cant wait for your first competition. I understand how hard to find a time to go to the rink for practice while studing in a college //you're not alone 😍⛸️💕
Satahnee Tan thanks for your comment! Happy to hear you started too. How long had it been now? I won't be competing for a couple of years. One more year of university, then get a full time job, and then I can afford a proper coach and someone to choreograph a program. But I can't wait either!!!!!
Natalia Shershakova still cant do a power pull hahaaa and all basic is weak! (i admit that i've struggle to do a walt jump LOL) and spin is bad too but it's ok i think maybe if i had more time it may be better😂//you inspired me
Satahnee Tan lol practicing basics (edges, Mohawks, 3 turns, crossovers, powerpulls) is soooooo important! I go skating maybe 3 times a week and one of those sessions is public skating where they yell at you for FS so I take advantage of public sessions to work just on my basics. And I warm up with basics before doing the fancy stuff. PRACTICE YOUR BASICS EVERY DAY 😂😂😂😂😂
Absolutely amazing! I always wanted to figure skate as a kid but never had the opportunity. I'm planning to save up for lessons so I can finally fulfill my childhood dreams!! This video gives me hope that there's hope I can be as good as you! :)
ArtemisDianna there are other people who actually progress faster. Also I don't even have a coach right now. So if you get more consistent coaching and practice a lot on your own and lose the fear of falling, miracles will happen 😉
Natalia Shershakova absolutely though I don't think I'll be able to practice as much with uni and work (already cutting myself short with time) That's why i'm amazed with how much you've learnt while balancing uni! That's truly admirable and I hope you get to compete soon! :)
ArtemisDianna well I don't work while I study so.... And thanks! Can't wait to compete either. Best of luck with your skating adventures! Just be sure to buy proper figure skates.
Hi Natalia... great job!!!! You are a bit further then I am. Amazing... Looking at your spins, that is the only thing which bothers me. I had to switch to other side in November so I had to start all over again.. So I lost there quite a bit of time... keep up the amazing job!!!!
Natalia Shershakova my jumps were one way and spins other way.... they have to be the same direction.... I couldnt switch jumps so I am force to learn spins the other way. First week my brain didnt like it too much. I went from ice almost ready to throw up... then it stopped. I still dont feel comfortable spinning the new way nut it is getting better every week.
Zdenka who said they have to be the same direction? XD here look at this video: th-cam.com/video/L4eISMDCfQE/w-d-xo.html this lady jumps one way and spins the other
Natalia Shershakova You have to do one direction if yoj are hoping to eventually jump doubles.. If you only want to stay with single jumps then it is ok.
Zdenka ohhhhh it's because of the back scratch spin, right? Because back scratch is how you learn the air position for double and triple jumps. Well good luck! Don't despair, you can do it!
I'm 19 and have only been skating a few months but your videos are so inspiring. Watching your progress has made me want to work harder on my own. I've only recently started doing waltz jumps but I hope I can get as skilled as you in a year. The spiral will definitly take longer than a year though (I'm the only guy in my adult basic class and the least flexible by far 😅)
Jonathon H. The sad part is that now I've plateau'd and it's getting so difficult to make any progress. In fact I've practically lost my flip jump and can't get it back! Skating is so difficult mentally. But I really don't mean to discourage you, just saying that there are ups and downs. But there will always be times when you finally get something and it's the greatest feeling in the world. So keep working hard!!!
It's good to see, people who struggle with the scratch spin as well. I have been skating for 5 months now and it's literally impossible for me to do it. Also I understand your flexibility struggle, my goal for the summer, when I can't skate, is to get my legs flexible enough for the spirals. But I'm very impressed how much you've learned in just one year.
Julia Rottluff whatever scratch spin I had two months ago is now GONE. My sit spin is my best spin right now. That has improved, while the scratch gets worse by the minute. Best of luck with your scratch spin!!
I started lessons at 19 yrs old, got my axel, double toe, double salchow, and double loop. I had already known how to skate and do cross cuts, though one side was awful, lol. Don’t give up!
Amazing! You already have such a pleasant and graceful style of skating! I love how you focus on getting your jumps high. So many don’t bother doing that. One tip if I may: On your toe jumps, you look like you are fully transferring your weight on the toe foot, creating a bit of a delay. I noticed this especially on the toe loop. I think you’re probably doing that so you can really use that free leg to launch you into the jump, which is totally correct for the edge jumps but the toe jumps work a little bit differently. If you watch videos of skaters doing these jumps, they are only on the toe for just a fraction of a second and it’s more a way of transitioning into the air. (Also that’s likely why you are slipping off the toe and falling sometimes) This is actually a technique (an incorrect one) some skaters make when they are trying to put a toe loop on the end of a combination jump and they have no speed left. It’s called a toe axel. You don’t want to be doing no toe axels! Lol Getting height on the toe jumps comes from a few different things. Good speed entering the jump and fearlessness is big factor. Also, good overall leg and core strength helps. Also, a lot of the power for the jump comes from your upper body and the backwards edge entering the jump. You’ll want to have a nice strong edge and good spring from that edge as the toe goes in. A lot of that will come with time and practice. You do get some lift from the free knee as well, but you don’t wanna be using the toe as a launcher. Hopefully I’m making some kind of sense. Lol. For now, I’d focus on improving your speed to get some height for those toe jumps and making sure you’re using your arms and positioning your head, shoulders and hips correctly. Establishing good habits now will make learning the doubles that much easier. :) You’re waltz jump is just a dream though. I bet it won’t be long before you’re landing those axels! You have wonderful lift and I see a lot of natural ability in you. You have a beautiful spread eagle too which I’m jealous of. I could never do a proper spread eagle. My hips just wouldn’t go that way no matter how much I stretched. Lol Keep it up! You’re already a lovely skater!!
Omg THANKS SO MUCH!! You speak nothing but the truth. I know 100% what you're talking about and actually in the recent weeks I've been trying to reinvent my toe loop because I knew there was something wrong with it.... I found out recently that you're supposed to use the toepick as a vault rather than doing what you called "toe axels". So I now try to pick further back, and it seems to be working, I hope... I still haven't video'd it so I don't know what my new toe loop looks like. And there's still loads of room for improvement. AND I also know (I only realized this after filming this video and watching it) that I go into my jumps super slow, and I'm working on building speed (which is scary but you just have to do it and hope for the best), and it definitely helps with height. As for the waltz, I am eyeing that axel so hard.... I've started self-guided off ice training and I'm actually landing axels off ice (except I don't know about the form... I'm trying really hard to cross my legs). And on ice I've been vigorously working on my backscratch because it's still nowhere near where it needs to be. And I've started waltz backscratch. Also starting to force myself to try combination jumps. But I hope to land it clean on ice by the end of the summer because I know that my waltz is high enough to give me enough air time do do the rotations for the axel.
Wow... your progressive in one year mark is VERY INSPIRING! I'm 18 this year and I'm very excited to start my lesson next month. I hope I'll be able to progress just like you did in my one year mark. 😁 How often do you skate and take lesson?
Cassandra Loh thanks so much, and I'm very happy for you!! Be sure to have proper skates (Jacksons are usually a good choice, with a Mirage blade). I skate 2-4 times per week. My lessons have been very inconsistent and there have been time when I haven't had any lessons. Many lessons I got weren't from certified coaches. But now I'm getting online coaching (because it's the only thing I can afford) and my coach has been doing wonders for me, but I am relearning all my singles because I learned them all wrong 😂
@Natalia Shershakova You say your skates hindered your progress and you didn't have proper coaching but the progress you've made in just a year is😂😂😂my goodness ..words fail me. But you give me hope. I'm 19 but won't be able to start learning ice skating any time soon coz there's no rink nearby...I'll have to wait till my early twenties or mid maybe till I move to a new place and am able to start all of this. You are absolutely splendid.. I don't have words, such progress in 1 year only! Btw, what exercises should I do in the meantime for flexibility and improving balance? Should I learn the basics of ballet(online ofc)? Please let me know 😊
Looks like you posted the same comment twice :) see my response to the other one. But basically I talked about giving inline figure skating a try. Stretching, cardio, and strength training. Also ballet is totally awesome and you should totally sign up for a class.
Great progress! I’ve been figure skating for 5 years now and there’s nothing I hate as much as the toeloop. Otherwise i’m quite a Good jumper though. A tip is to have a straight entry to the toeloop and keep your arms and the rest of your upper body pointed forwards and not turn your body towards the rotation until You are in the air. Good luck with skating!
Math Lover yeah I won't argue with you. Canada is cold but living there has its perks. Oh I know, you should try artistic roller skating!!! It's the same thing except on roller skates. No ice needed, just a smooth surface. I actually wanna take up artistic roller skating as a side project....
I'm 18 years old and I want to learn figure skating and I want to compete in winter olympics even though I came from a tropical country (Philippines). If I just believe in myself, I can do it. For now, I will finish my studies first and word hard to earn money for this.
Jam Jam that's amazing!!! Go for it. But you could even start now and maybe not spend much money on it, rather than waiting till you've finished school. You don't have time to lose if you're aiming high. Best of luck!!!!
o l g a hahaha thanks but they've actually been getting worse and worse.... Because a spin has to be executed with very good technique or else it will fail (it is a precision move, since you have to balance on a very specific point on the blade), so I have been struggling a lot...
Carolina Lopez you don't know that for sure ;) and I'm certainly not the best out there in terms of first year progress. There is a guy doing camel spins, Axels, and double Salchows (NickWest, check him out on TH-cam). If you get more practice and better coaching than me, and get proper skates right away (I only got entry level professional skates in June), you can probably achieve more. My spins are behind because I was wearing recreational "figure" skates for the first 5 months.
OMG, all I see in the comments is teens saying they think they're too old! STOP IT! I'm 26! I'm too old! You guys have SO MUCH time, so much potential! Don't ever feel you're too old for this or anything else you set your mind on! There are 70 year old people doing it! If you put your mind, your time and effort into it you can become good enough at anything! Mom preach over lol.
Agreed. I think by "too old" they mean that they won't make it to the Olympics, which realistically they won't, and neither will I. But no one is too old to start figure skating and to get to an advanced level (all double jumps at least)!
Haha I can't even do the splits, so no, in the figure skating world I really wouldn't be considered flexible, and that's the reality. The bloopers are my favorite part, thank you 😂😋
That's amazing progress in 1 year! :) keep up the hard work. I am also a young adult figure skater with very limited ice time and coaching, so I understand how you feel. You have progressed so far in just a year! I've been skating for 5 years and I'm still on single jump combos and combination spins (you can check out my video) :P it's been a slow but fun journey. Don't give up when you get to axels :) I have the same 2018 axel goal as you, and I feel that twizzles are so much fun and hope that you would have as much fun as me too!
Haha thanks so much!! Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see this until now because your comment was in my "potential spam" comments and I have no idea how it got there :D Lol I'm nowhere near doing combination spins, my spins still suck and I'm trying to fix them but it's tough. I'm really more of a jumper. Jumps are SO much easier than spins... And I most certainly will check out your video!
it's alright :) Keep working hard and I'm sure you would get it soon. I found spins really challenging at the start (only started to work on sit and back spins after landing my flip), but it will get better and a whole lot of fun (and falls). I think your both really talented at spins and jumps, in such a short period of time and with limited coaching.
I am also trying to figure skate, however I’m only a month into my progress. I’ve created a channel to track my progress just like you! I hope to improve to your level someday! :)
I just saw this comment, it was marked as spam, don't know why! I just looked and haven't seen anything on your channel yet, hope you'll be posting soon!
With your power pulls keep your free leg raised for the foward and the backward keep your leg straight behind you and hold it there. As for your sit spin keep your back straight and and arch it more. For your loop jump really take your time and focus on pushing off.And for your flip when putting your toepick in the ice position your back arm as though you are letting your armpit breath(I know how silly it sounds but I promise it works).Other than that Keep up the good work!
Thank you so very much for all your tips! I will take them into consideration when I practice :) The only problem is that I'm not flexible in the back, so if I try to straighten my back while in the sit spin, it puts my center of balance towards the back too much and I fall :(
You are amazing!!!! I got so inspired by you and finally decided also to sign for adult figure skating) are you training with a group or individually? And how many times/hours per week? All the bests from Berlin
I'm so happy for you! I have an online coach (for the last 6 months) because I'm still in school and can't afford coaching at a skating club. So I practice on my own 3-5 hours per week and send my coach video clips which she then critiques. :)
your spins and jumps are very good after a year of skating! i shall watch where you get to in another year. i wouldnt attempt the lutz before you are more secure on you edges if i were you. which country do you skate in?
Thanks!! I skate in Canada (Ottawa and Waterloo). What exactly do you mean by secure on my edges? Are you talking about specific exercises I should be able to do? I am very comfortable with fwd/bkwd inside/outside edges and forward/backward 3 turns. I practice them every time I skate. Although I don't have my rocker turn yet, it's tough 😥 I think I am struggling with the Lutz because I haven't really received coaching on it....
i mean you need to be able to hold an edge securely for a descent amout of time. diffucult to explain, i havent had much coaching either so dont know that much theory. dont mean any exercices in particular, all of them :D you just need to skate and skate. it comes with practice. cant comment on your 3turns or edge exercices but be assured that there is always room for improvement. the same goes for crossovers.
Thanks you!!!! I was actually pretty disappointed by the height of my loops in this video. But since I filmed this I've been working on loops, and I leaned a new entry (which is basically just from backwards crossovers). They've been getting a lot more consistent and more powerful too. I'm also starting to land loop loops with no problem. Can't wait for the double loop because the loop is the most beautiful jump in my opinion :D
Hi! I just found your channel and let me just say your progress is amazing! I’m 17 and want to get into figure skating soon but worry it is too late form me. May I ask if and what you do for off ice training, as in going to gym or something like that? And also, how much ice time do you get a week? I ask because I hope to improve as fast as you did!
Paloma V Not too late! I'm 21! In terms of off ice training, I have started it recently this year. I do weight training (leg workouts, upper body, core). I do balance training on the bosu ball (including sit spin squats). I am trying to stretch to become more flexible. And I do rotation practice (there is a really good video, just search rotation practice for figure skaters). Also off ice jumps. Later this year (probably during the summer) I do plan to post a few videos on off ice training so stay tuned if you're interested (but keep in mind I'm kind of going with the flow, not an expert in any of this). I skate about 3-4 hours per week. Depends on the season.
Thank you so much for answering! I’ll be sure to keep up with your videos because you now have become a great inspiration for me and I can only hope to skate like you someday! It would be awesome if you could make som videos about your training.
Considering im 10 and ove been skating for 3 yrs i just started learning my loop, lutz and flip and back soto and camel sit and i cant fully pull my leg in on my scratch spin so that is a accomplishment
I fell on a flip jump and my chin split open and I had to go to hospital and got the cut glued. I am working on axels and double loops and salchows and can't land any lol and I am doing a slow camel spin and flying sit spin.
Nice vid' ! So, have you reached your 2018 goals already ? I'm a beginner too, btw, but haven't been taking classes for a year yet. I love your fluid skating.
Wow! I have just started and feel so hopeful now! I'm really struggling with spins-- what do you do to keep yours so tight? I seem to get pretty wobbly. I'm also terrified to go to fast... with anything. Spins...even just changing direction. Ugh. Truly well done! Excited to watch year 2.
Yeah... Spins are really tough. I guess the numbers one thing is to get over your fear of falling / going fast. With time your body comes to recognize all the different falling patterns and learns to automatically brace itself in such a way that you don't get hurt when you fall. Spins are very much about precision of technique: one mistake and your spin will fail. Be patient with your spins and work on them with your coach; they will come, but it may take years to get them to a good, consistent level. As you can see, mine aren't consistent yet. 2 year progress video was actually posted a few weeks ago, check it out! 😉⛸️⛸️
I train on average 3-4 hours per week. I started learning the waltz jump pretty much right away, I'd say less than a month after starting figure skating. The Salchow I started learning about 2-3 months into my skating. My spins, however, are only going downhill at the moment :'(
Abs N this isn't a dress, this is a skirt and a leotard. Try getting Capezio leotards on Amazon, they're affordable. As for the skirt, I got it from the Figure Skating Boutique in Toronto. You can go on their website and order stuff. :)
Natalia Shershakova Perfect! I already have caprezio tights and a long sleeve leotard would be awesome. I'm really tall so I imagine most skating dresses won't fit me right. Good advice about the skirt! Thanks!
Can you help with my loop ? I am advancing in everything else but I can’t get out of free skate three until I learn a loop and I’ve tried many times but I just can’t do it I think my problem might be strength let me know if you have any tips Ps I’m 14 and a started last February keep up the good work 😀🤗
I'm not sure how I can help you with your loop because I don't know what your loop even looks like, the problem could be anything. And chances are, the problem is technique, not strength. You don't need a whole lot of strength to execute nice singles. The strength component only comes into play for doubles/triples. Work with your coach on your loop, that's my best advice. Don't give up, just keep working on it until you get it!
Wow this video really gives me motivation, thanks for uploading this Natalia! i'm wondering how many times do you practice each week, or roughly how many hours each week. Looking forward to your response!
Wendy Lam thank you! Are you also figure skating? I practice 1-6 hours per week, depending on the week. Also since August I have online coaching (I send her videos and she critiques them). This is the most consistent coaching I've had so far, and she's helped me a lot. But I'm relearning all my singles because I've been learning poor technique this whole time....
@@natsskates Yes I've just started to pick up my skating skills as Ive skated a bit when I was 12 (I'm 22 now). Can I know where to get online coaching of you don't mind, im also interested in it : )
Wendy Lam most certainly!! She's helped me a lot and is working with me to perfect my technique for spins and singles so that I can transfer that technique to doubles. Her name is Laurie Johnson Krueger. The online coaching program is called Elements That Shine. You can search up both her name and the program on Facebook and message her directly, she'll be happy to help you.
Elsa Plumppu lol my back scratch ability is declining. All of my spins are now getting progressively worse and I am trying to relearn them from scratch (pun intended)
@@natsskates No, you dont! :) I think your progress is remarkable. What I like to do is a little bit of stretching in the evening durinf tv/netflix/whatev, there are lots of videos with stretch exercises and also a few specifically for figure skating :) Best of luck! 🍀🤸🏻♀️
I hateeee toe loops. I used to always mess up the landing, and it would cause my ankle to kind of go sideways, and now every time i do a jump it hurts. Good thing I want to do ice dance anyway.
Sylvia Star I know toe loop is actually the most awkward jump ever!! And I'm working on fixing mine right now because it's still a bit of a toe waltz (ewwwe). Hope you're enjoying ice dancing!
It should be coming in the next week or two, hold tight! I'm still working on my scratch spin. I didn't actually start attempting the true scratch spin (versus a simple one foot spin) until 7-8 months into skating, so that was filmed after about 4-5 months of me doing the scratch. Spoiler alert, I'm still working on the scratch and still travelling. It's a very difficult spin which takes years to perfect.
Oh my God!! I just started skating, I hope I'll get as good as you. I can only do a few basic moves and can't seem to get more than one rotation in a spin. How do people manage to get so many rotations?? But anyways, you're great!! I was wondering how many times a week you practice?
Jem J thanks!! Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see this till now. To get more rotations you need to put more force into your entry and wind up more. What entry do you do? Can you do a forward spiralling entry? If yes, start with crossovers, wind up, and then go into the forward spiraling edge with a very bent knee and a deep outside edge. Be sure to hold that edge long enough before you hook. I practice 2-6 hours per week, depending on the week. And currently I have an online coach (Google Elements that Shine) but no coach in real life.
@@natsskates Thank you for replying! And thank you for the tips, I'll make sure to try them when I get to practice. It's also crazy to see where I was when I wrote my original comment. I can do so much more now. :))
@@natsskates Only 2-3, but I've shifted my focus to footwork as of late because my coaches were moving in that direction. I can do three turns, power pulls, crossovers (forwards and I'm working on backwards), and that kind of thing.
I got some strong criticism. stop putting yourself down... in the video you kept saying not your day. IT IS YOUR DAY. you are fantastic. One year and you did way better than some do in 10 years. Trust me on that one. This is really good progress. The only suggestion i have is stop criticizing yourself!
You're absolutely right, but it also pushes me to try harder and do better. But I am struggling with the mental aspect of figure skating and learning to go easy on myself and have a more balanced and positive approach.
That's actually a move in figure skating called hydroblade LOL. If you don't know what it is, search it up on TH-cam. But yes it's basically lying down on the ice 🤣
Fun with CFS thank you so much! My spins are getting worse and worse though.... In terms of how to fall, I only took amateur lessons at my university for the most part, so no one actually taught me how to fall properly. If you take professional lessons at a skating club there is a good chance they'll teach it. But I did martial arts for 10 years which helps me with balance and falling (that's where they did teach us how to fall). Some tips are to bend your knees as much as you can if you feel like you're starting to fall, curve your spine and tuck your head in if you're falling backwards, don't fall onto your wrists, and be super relaxed when you fall because you hurt yourself when you're stiff.
Hey I’ve been skating for 4 months and I’ve managed to get all the jumps up to loop jump so I still need to get the flip and lutz do you think I can get an axel by 6 months?
That depends on how much coaching you're getting and your natural ability, but unless you're Johnny Weir, I'd say no. I would focus on getting your singles perfect first. You need perfect form. I'm still working on perfecting my singles two years in, but I should be learning the axel this year... don't rush it, just take your time.
Well done Natalia!. Inspiring to watch. Question.....It is okay to let the audience pass judgement , criticism also however You constantly berate for everything not perfect. Why is that ? The comments show We are in recognition of some of the effort it must have taken to achieve this level. Enjoy the applause. Maybe use it to reach for newer heights whilst enjoying the actual thing You are doing. Flying like a bird across a pond ! Warm regards Stephen Hunt. btw . I just had my second lesson today in South Australia!.. i did crossovers !!! Quite ungainly i am sure to the observer but most importantly I felt as graceful as when seeing You skate. Oh Btw I am Male.....and.... 63 ! )) I will look out for Your updates as inspiration )
Thank you! Sorry for the late reply. I agree that I might be too hard on myself, but it's still good to keep a healthy amount of self-criticism to keep improving! Glad to hear that you're venturing into the world of figure skating and enjoying yourself. Keep going, don't stop, work hard, and you can achieve lots.
Iris de Graaf if you have the pation and the patience dir the sport...just so it! I'm 17 and I began 2 weeks aho and I love it! It is never too late!
I only need smaller skates though, current ones are too big........ sigh
But again, thank you so much for the video! It motivated me enough to go try it out❄️❤️
Just saw this, and I'm happy to hear you're already jumping! Work hard and you will achieve lots.
flowersandragons Wow your progress is REALLY GOOD 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I’m 11 not sure how old u are and before the Covid-19 Pandemic I would have private coaching twice a week the whole day 😂😂😂 if you’re wondering how I able to skate for normally 8 hours it’s because I’m homeschooled. And I’m now in level 3 and still not learning that ✨yet. I don’t even know what level it’s in Hahahaha. I just need to learn backward crossover and backward stroking to level up yayyyyyyy!!!!!!!
I always thought that because I’m 12 it’s too late but I’m gonna see if my local rink has lessons
Edit: oh my god! I JUST SIGNED UP FOR THE LESSONS!!!
Ooh fun how’d it go
Congrats! Happy to hear, wish you all the best in your skating journey. Remember: work hard, even on the difficult days, don't get discouraged, and persevere. Skating is a tough sport but also very rewarding.
so how's figure skating a year later?
How skating going now
how has it been? i’m 14 and have started recently so i’d love to hear how it’s going for you!
I've watched several of these Adult skating progress videos and yours blows the others outta the water... WOW.
Well then you must not have seen this: th-cam.com/video/Zj2foAQHQx8/w-d-xo.html this guy is doing camel spins, axels, and double salchows after one year. But thanks 😄 I am obsessed with this sport and won't stop until I get a double axel
This is incredible progress for one year!! Wow!
TheLizzlybear thank you! Do you skate as well?
LLMAOOOO "it's called a sit spin right!?" \*spins on butt* 😂😂😂😂😂
team14robot yes sit spins are my specialty. I can get quite a few rotations on my butt and they're very centered
LOL Keep up the good work. 👍😂
This is like the best progress vid I’ve seen!
Thank you! A lot has changed since then. Be sure to check out my 2 and 3 year progress :)
I am 20 years old too, but in our figure skating club accept only children :( I really want to start with the figure skating.
13agility well isn't that mean!! Maybe you should talk to them in person and try to negotiate. Remember Ice Princess (18 year old in a class of little kids)? Don't give up on starting lessons, keep looking and trying!
Same, but I'm 17. Will be 18 in three months.
Wish I could skate with you.
Same here, I'm 18 and they don't take adult beginners.
I'm almost 20 and I want to start figure skating soon, I'm happy to see it is not too late to start now 😊
Beautiful! Don't be so hard on yourself! You are amazing!
Thank you very much! I agree that I'm too hard on myself and should tone it down, but gotta keep a bit of the self-criticism to keep moving forward.
It took me 6 years to get to where you are! That is an incredible improvement for 1 year. Keep on going!
Thank you so much! You too, keep going and keep practicing.
Thank you and do you mind giving some mental tips for the single axel please? I just don’t have the courage to jump.
@@natsskates Thank you! And good luck with landing yours, I’m extremely surprised that you already started the axel after 3 years! Thanks again.
@@slurrpppp5376 some people land it after less than a year...
Natalia Shershakova ok, thanks a lot😘❤👋
Paput Laetitia I'm happy that you feel motivated! Definitely go for it, you have nothing to lose!! 2026 Olympics HERE WE GO 😂😂😂
So So inspiring! I started learning how to figure skate this January, it is such an amazing sport.
That's awesome! Best of luck on your journey.
Ты молодец!!! Очень хорошо поработала за год и многого достигла. Я тобой горжусь.
I am 19 and started skating recently. I’m the happiest person in the world ❤️
Tell me about it.
Nice stuff, Natalia!! You're very talented. Keep this up and you'll be amazed how much more progress you can make in another year.
barkingtree88 thank you!! This year has been slow so far in terms of progress due to various circumstances, but hoping to get that camel spin and axel by the end of the year!
Great music choice and great skating :)
thank you!
I want to do this. It looks like such a fun way of exercising for an adult.
Emily Rose you absolutely should!!! And to be honest I have never seen figure skating as exercise... I see it as just fun! 😁
Just started skating again (I had some lessons as a kid) and this video inspires me so much! I hope I can progress as fast as you did!
Thanks! Good luck on your skating journey. And of course you can! Maybe even faster! Such a frustrating but rewarding process. Skating is a drug
I just graduated from college and want to start training. This gives me hope. Thanks for posting
Naomi Martinez I'm glad to hear that you're starting and that I gave you hope 😄 good luck with your skating. Anything is possible (except maybe the Olympics). Just be sure to get proper figure skates as soon as you are able to.
I’m glad u started my sport, welcome newcomer!!!
it's a great sport ;)
I wish that you will get your goals as soon as it's possible ;3 Keep goin' girl! I adore you ^_^
Haha, I'll be posting the 2 year progress video soon, and I can say that the only goal I have reached is the camel spin, and even that's a bit shakey... But I've brushed up on my singles and spins!
ahh i know this is late but i really like the speed on your scratch spins :) here’s some constructive criticism
salchows - try to swing your right leg in front of your left before taking off instead of taking off with it at the middle, i find that it helps with the height and looks better overall
slaloms - try moving your arms left and right to help make bigger curves
backspin - before pulling your arms in to spin, putting your left arm in front and right arm to the side (making an L position) will help with balance
sit spins - they’re definitely low enough!! if your coach allows it, swinging your free leg around bent may help with speed when descending. you can straighten it after a few revolutions
something else i’ve learned is that landing with your arms in the same L position said above really helps with balance. i think that everything you can do is extremely impressive for only one year of skating lessons, it really does blow my mind... you’re amazing, keep up the good work!! (sorry for the long comment lol)❤️❤️
Thank you for the tips! I've been working with an online coach for the last 6 months and she's really helped me improve my form. :D
Love the confidence in your skating....it’s very very good.....💗
Thanks!
For one year only? You deserve a great big round of applause! I couldn’t even get a waltz jump nailed in a year!
Fearlessness is the key ;)
came here you tell you that am start at 22!!!! keep gliding~💕 cant wait for your first competition.
ArtemisDianna this sport is so amazing! I'm happy to hear you're planning to start. And you absolutely can become even better!
Natalia Shershakova you are so sweet! I can only hope to be maybe half as good as you :)
Zdenka that's crazy! Why did you have to switch sides?
It's never too late ! I started with 13 and now I can do some tricks too . You can do anything if you want to
Agreed, never too late!
ONE YEAR?!!! x__x .... so talented... it prob will take me 10.
No it won't!! Just try it out 😊 you'll be pleasantly surprised about how easy it can be to progress (until you hit the plateau)
Oh, so fun!! luv it. Great efforts and successes! Congrats.
Thanks :)
You're doing so great!! Nice work!!
Denise P thanks we try!
I started lessons at 19 yrs old, got my axel, double toe, double salchow, and double loop. I had already known how to skate and do cross cuts, though one side was awful, lol. Don’t give up!
AMAZING! How long did it take you to get those jumps?
this is amazing!
Lol
Getting height on the toe jumps comes from a few different things. :)
You’re waltz jump is just a dream though. Lol
Keep it up!
Dude.... you are so amazing! You are also super freaking pretty as well!!!
Thank you thank you ^-^
Wow... your progressive in one year mark is VERY INSPIRING!
Please let me know 😊
I am 22 and about to start figure skating this week and yoga and gymnastics definitely help! I have been doing a lot of yoga and gymnastics at home.
Looks like you posted the same comment twice :) see my response to the other one. But basically I talked about giving inline figure skating a try. Stretching, cardio, and strength training. Also ballet is totally awesome and you should totally sign up for a class.
@@ahappyfrenchtoast2669 ohhh that's so exciting!!! Best of luck. Practice lots on your own because that's how you improve!
@@ahappyfrenchtoast2669 ooh that's wonderful! Good luck and have a great time! Thanks for the advice!
@@natsskates yess🤟🏻thanks😊
Great progress! I’ve been figure skating for 5 years now and there’s nothing I hate as much as the toeloop. Otherwise i’m quite a Good jumper though. A tip is to have a straight entry to the toeloop and keep your arms and the rest of your upper body pointed forwards and not turn your body towards the rotation until You are in the air. Good luck with skating!
Thanks for the toe loop tip, will certainly try it out! It's weird how it's considered one of the easiest jumps after the Salchow!
The arena is so good. In my country, even professional athletes dont get accces to such good arenas. Lucky, you are.
Math Lover yeah I won't argue with you. Canada is cold but living there has its perks. Oh I know, you should try artistic roller skating!!! It's the same thing except on roller skates. No ice needed, just a smooth surface. I actually wanna take up artistic roller skating as a side project....
Love it! You're doing great! At least you aren't starting at my age! I'm 46 and it's very difficult!
Thanks! Good for you for starting too! It's never too late (unless you actually can't walk).
Awesome job!!! You've got great height on your jumps and really nice edge control!! Keep it up! :)
Thank you!! Still many more years to perfect my technique. Whereabouts are you? I'm in Canada
You are great for a adult first year. I am at my second year and I cannot execute half of this. Good work!
Camila Bezerra lol I am plateau-ing so hard right now.... Progress comes in spurts
Your spins are amazing!! Hope I can do my spins like you
o l g a hahaha thanks but they've actually been getting worse and worse.... Because a spin has to be executed with very good technique or else it will fail (it is a precision move, since you have to balance on a very specific point on the blade), so I have been struggling a lot...
Omg your'e so good! I bet if I trained for a year, I wouldn't be (half) as good as you!
Not flexible your joking, wish I was as good as you. Love the fact you put in bloopers. Great music. ❤
Haha I can't even do the splits, so no, in the figure skating world I really wouldn't be considered flexible, and that's the reality. The bloopers are my favorite part, thank you 😂😋
@@natsskates I would love to be a pairs skater. You look lovely. ❤
@@natsskates two questions if you answer them please. What country are you in and how old are you!😜?
@@jongover5056 22 years old (lucky to have started relatively "young" for an adult), and live in Canada
I think your both really talented at spins and jumps, in such a short period of time and with limited coaching.
dazzlingone96 thank you for encouraging me! It's good to know that your spins used to be a struggle and now they are as good as they are.
You're so good!! I've also been skating only a year, but i'm not as good! XD Congrats on your progress!!!!
Tina M. LOL I've kinda started to plateau so you'll probably pass me soon enough 😂 thanks and good luck with your skating!
Wow you are doing so well! I just bought my first pair of figure skates... so excited! What are you actually wearing in this vid? It looks supernice!
Hi, what skates did you buy? I wear Jackson Elles (stiffness 35) with Aspire XP blades. And I'm wearing a leotard and a skating skirt in the video. :D
@@natsskates hi! I bought secondhand Jackson Classique skates and I'm pretty happy with them :) i think the stiffness is approximately the same...
Natalia, very good figure skating! I love your video! :-)
Thank you :)
This is very cool.
omg so amazing!!!! keep it up
This is really amazing!😂😁💕💕
I will take them into consideration when I practice :) The only problem is that I'm not flexible in the back, so if I try to straighten my back while in the sit spin, it puts my center of balance towards the back too much and I fall :(
Natalia Shershakova its all practice my dear, and you Definetily are going in the right direction
I think your doing awesome!
Runninghorse Gallop I try 😳 thanks
You are amazing!!!! I got so inspired by you and finally decided also to sign for adult figure skating) are you training with a group or individually? And how many times/hours per week? All the bests from Berlin
I'm so happy for you!
I have an online coach (for the last 6 months) because I'm still in school and can't afford coaching at a skating club. So I practice on my own 3-5 hours per week and send my coach video clips which she then critiques. :)
Simply amazing!
Aurelija Baublinskaite thank you :)
your spins and jumps are very good after a year of skating! i shall watch where you get to in another year. i wouldnt attempt the lutz before you are more secure on you edges if i were you. which country do you skate in?
You’re loop really has nice lift too! I bet the double will come easily for you. Really nice form.
Just Cerulean keep skating! And haha my forward scratch has gotten worse. It's a never ending struggle.
You have beautiful form! Wish I could skate like you. :)
Thank you! But believe it or not, my form is far from perfect. At least if I want to turn these singles into doubles.
I fell on a flip jump and my chin split open and I had to go to hospital and got the cut glued. I am working on axels and double loops and salchows and can't land any lol and I am doing a slow camel spin and flying sit spin.
Omg that's terrible 😱 somehow I have never injured myself on the ice to this day.
I dream of working on doubles 😍 good for you!
i landed my axel on Monday ;-) Wish you luck on learning doubles!
Nice vid' ! So, have you reached your 2018 goals already ?
I'm a beginner too, btw, but haven't been taking classes for a year yet. I love your fluid skating.
Laure-Line Guillemette hehehee... NOT EVEN CLOSE 😂
That's awesome!!! I love to see beginners! Keep at it 😊
This is amazing!!
VannNique skating is amazing!!!
Wow you learned so much in just a year! How many hours a week did you train? And how long did you skate until you learned jumps?
I train on average 3-4 hours per week. I started learning the waltz jump pretty much right away, I'd say less than a month after starting figure skating. The Salchow I started learning about 2-3 months into my skating. My spins, however, are only going downhill at the moment :'(
I think you skate so amazingly because you have a figure skater af name.
ASHERUISE YOU'RE KILLING ME 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 But yesss I guess this must mean I am destined for the Olympics! 😉
you're amazing!! may i ask what type of skates you have?
Promises thanks! I use Jackson Elle boots with Mirage blades. They're pretty low level but stiff enough for me cuz I'm so light.
Awesome progress! Please tell me, where did you buy your dress?? I'm looking for good skating brands!
I am advancing in everything else but I can’t get out of free skate three until I learn a loop and I’ve tried many times but I just can’t do it I think my problem might be strength let me know if you have any tips
Ps I’m 14 and a started last February keep up the good work 😀🤗
I'm not sure how I can help you with your loop because I don't know what your loop even looks like, the problem could be anything.
@@natsskates Thanks so much!!
it's funny though, your backscratch spin and lutz are WAY better than mine and I have been skating for five years. good job!!
Elsa Plumppu lol my back scratch ability is declining. All of my spins are now getting progressively worse and I am trying to relearn them from scratch (pun intended)
Have you tried warming up before skating and stretching on a regularl basis? It could help :)
Emma I normally don't 😂 but sometimes I do. My flexibility needs a lot of work, I know I look like a table flying across the ice
When is your new video coming? I'm looking forward to seeing it:) By the way how long did you practice for your scratch spin?
Jem J how many rotations now?
@@natsskates Only 2-3, but I've shifted my focus to footwork as of late because my coaches were moving in that direction. I can do three turns, power pulls, crossovers (forwards and I'm working on backwards), and that kind of thing.
Jem J that's good, edges are very important for jumps and spins. Keep at it!
2:15, the person in the back be like: 👁👄👁 lemme just lay down a lil bit
That's actually a move in figure skating called hydroblade LOL. If you don't know what it is, search it up on TH-cam. But yes it's basically lying down on the ice 🤣
This is incredible! You're such a natural, making it look easy. Question: do they teach you how to fall properly during lessons?
I'm still working on perfecting my singles two years in, but I should be learning the axel this year... don't rush it, just take your time.
you are amazing!!
😊⛸️⛸️
You're progress is impressive. How often do u practice
Coy Ryan thanks! About 2-6 hours per week, depending on week/season.
