  • Join us (Keenan & Ashley) and our two dogs, on this wild journey down the Nisutlin River, Yukon Territory! The adventure starts on the road in Ontario, as we drive across Canada and make our way to the Yukon via the famous Alaska Highway!
    Expecting a quiet, relaxing paddle to ease ourselves into our summer Yukon adventure, we face high winds, ferocious bugs, and washed out camps on the Nisutlin.
    Lots of wildlife to see in this film! We hope you enjoy!

    Spectacular shots, much enjoyed. I really appreciate your dogs (both with a lovely demeanour) and at the same time appreciate how your vids are not *about* the dogs. It would be easy to do, but you just sprinkle them in nicely. You're a great couple pumping great content---keep it coming! Glad to see you use the magnum for protection in the Yukon, just remember to keep those bowls clean!

    I drove the Alcan in January 2009 . I’m from Arkansas and had never seen anything like that. White out conditions and we drove 20 mph nearly the entire way. We almost named our daughter Teslin. We went through Revel Stoke and that was an amazing stop. We got stuck in White Horse at the Walmart during a blizzard and slept in our truck over night in the parking lot. It was -58 degrees and like 4’ of snow fell on us. It was a rough nite but we had prepared best we could. My wife and 8 year old son and I. We drove from Arkansas to Anchorage where we lived for 6 months. So much more to our story but this video brought back so many memories. Thanks
    Best TH-cam video I have ever watched.
    Loved the river adventure
    In my opinion, VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER SHOW

    It was like two trips in one. First the trip across Canada and then down the Nisutlin River. You could really see the strength of the river with all the downed trees. Especially on that island you camped on. Great video.

      Thanks Doug. Ya all of the rivers in the Yukon we a bit of a mess this year. I think they got 3 times more snow than usual and then a warm spring making for flood conditions across a lot of the territory. Thanks so much and happy holidays!

    Hello Keenan...I greatly appreciate you sharing your adventures, I have been canoeing with my lady for over 20 years. We are from the UK, Yorkshire, my wife grew up in Birmingham but was born in Jamaica. We live in the Southern Interior of BC since 2005. I had to laugh at your joking about Ashley's accent, England has some very diverse accents and I took the brunt of many Canadian jokes when I arrived on these shores. Which county in England is your wife from?
    We both enjoy our adventures together and the first trip of the year is always a very moving experience for us. Strangely enough, I will be buying another canoe this year, principally to encourage my wife to take the next step to paddle solo, the canoe I was thinking of is the Pocket Canyon, Currently I have a Hellman Scout Canoe (15'9") and a 1970's Faber Prospector Cedar and Canvas Canoe, a beautiful boat but heavy for soloing. I would appreciate any comments on your experience of paddling the Pocket Canyon. I noticed in one of your vids the swimming Bear, we too had such an experience when paddling on Clearwater Lake, the Bear must have swam over a kilometre before reaching the shore. Wer also did a trip to the Yukon about 15 years ago, the rain and mosquitoes were brutal but the Grayling and Pike Fishing compensated for it. Anyway, thanks again, happy paddling and tight lines, Chris

    • @CanoeTheNorth
      @CanoeTheNorth  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much for the nice comment! Lots of mosquitos in the yukon on your trip. We always find it interesting how it can be either CRAZY buggy or no bugs at all there. There doesn't seem to be an in-between.
      So you're looking at a pocket canyon. Honestly I love my pocket canyon. It's a lot of fun to paddle, handles very well, and is very stable. Obviously it's not very fast and probably not the most practical canoe for everyone. I really think for most people (myself included) you are probable better off with a prospector 15 than the pocket canyon. I got a great deal on mine used, otherwise thats probably what I would have done. Saying that I absolutely love that little canoe. Hope that helps and thanks again. Happy paddling!

    • @redcanoe14
      @redcanoe14 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for getting back to me, it is really appreciated. I think how you describe life with the Esquif Pocket Canyon. I will look to get hold one of these. I hear you on the comments about the Prospecteur 15, in a sense that has some comparisons with my Heellman DScout which is 15"9" in an Eco Poxy layup. Bob Hellman who owns Herllman canoes in Nelson BC said he is a big fan of this boat as he is an experienced whitewater instructor and it is a very dry boat. To improve the tracking on my Scout, Bob narrowed the gunwhales by 2" which makes it track better as it reduces the rocker. My wife is just 4'11" so I think she would be more confident in the Pocket Canyon. So what part of the UK does your wife come from? Thanks for your help and every success in growing your excellent channel, Chris@@CanoeTheNorth

    What a great film and trip! You guys are addictive and inspirational. Hope to visit the Yukon again next summer. I was last there the summer of 1978 in the Cassiar and Mackenzie Mountain areas prospecting for a small exploration company. Lots of walking and bugs even at higher elevations. Only near a lake once and caught some grayling with a Ronco Pocket Fisherman. Looking forward to future docs as they truly are.

    Nice video! I did that same canoe trip with my parents in the early 1970's when I was 8 years old.
    We lived not too far away in a cabin that my dad built on the shore of Morely Bay.
    I like the scene where you show the bear spray. There was no such thing back then, so for bear deterrent, my dad kept his "grocery getter"--a loaded 30.06 that he used to harvest moose off the land for us to eat.

    I am just 10 minutes in and I do thoroughly approve. I too am a believer in a large canoe. I own a shameful number of canoes,, but my two expedition canoes are a 20' Old Town TripperXL and a 20' canoe built ror me by Clipper,, a MacKenzie 20. Laughing,,, the next canoe I want is the Miramichi by Esquif Fair amount of North Water gear (full spray deck with skirts) My trip this year was a short one , 2 weeks, with 4 friends, Green River in Utah. I intend to do the Whitehorse to Dawson,, or farther to the bridge near Talkeetna ? Which is why I went looking for your video. Back to the show.

Miles, towns, rapids, best camps, waterproof,,, I would have to up my tent and netting for the Yukon.
