    Just avoid the 2008+ with a timing chain, they are grenades with the pin removed. I'm sorry, German cars are just not as good as Toyota/Honda, but if you can do your own repairs or you don't mind the extra cost of repairs, then by all means drive one. If you want the lowest cost per mile to drive, get a Corolla or Civic.

    After seeing this video, i've enjoyed your review of this Audi A3. I have noticed some people who believed that European cars in general are unreliable but I believe it isn't the case. 150,000 miles (would be around 240,000 kilometres) is pretty good with little trouble. I must say it has been driven more than my 2006 model hatchback and as of now traveled around 221,500 kilometres. It still goes without trouble.

    • @jacobb7608
      @jacobb7608 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also have the 2006 Audi A3 2.0T hatchback with 214,000 miles on it. The only major issues over the years were a starter motor replacement, an intermittent electrical issue with the headlights, and recently bad sway bar bushings or end links. The engine and transmission still work beautifully, and it's outlasted every other car my family has owned.

    I am thinking about buying a 2006-7 Audi A3 Tdi, having owned an A6 which I bought secondhand back in 2002. I will say this... about my experience of the A6. Build quality and safety is excellent. I bought my A6 with 140,000 kms - seemed like new , seemed like the previous owner had done only 20,000 kms ! The turbo failed after another 25,000. kms. I budgeted for £/€ 1000 of repair but the new turbo still cost me €1300 fiitted at official Audi dealership. However, regarding Audi 1.9tdi models - these cars HOLD faults very well: even with broken turbo the car still drives well but obviously low on power. I have just scrapped this car, a 1999 model in 2017 at 300,000 kms and 2 years parked up with battery disconnected on a farm exposed to the elements. Even with brake pad and ABS warning lights on orange the car was driving perfectly, brakes still responsive. Distribution belt changed only once in 300,000 kms / 17 years. Alternator belt changed 3 times. Do NOT heed comments about gearbox problems on this particular model. Clutch and gearbox issues are relative to driver style and "luck of the draw" in all car manufacturers.

    200,000kms. an assortment of issues and its still a good car. Fun to drive, bags of torque.
    issues so far: Door wire harness replaced ($120). Haldex 12v pump ($225), PCV valve, Parasitic draw...
    All fixed without taking it or myself to the "cleaners" These cars are made to be pulled apart and put back. Workmanship is stellar.
    Fluids are all changed with proper spec and on time.
    hoping for another 200,000!

    I bought a 2006 Audi A3 Quattro brand new in the Fall of 2005. I had it for 6 years and I loved it for the first 4. After 4 years (and coincidentally when the warranty expired) it was plagued with all sorts of electrical gremlins to the point where I was in the shop every couple of months for one sensor or another. The repair bills were always very expensive and after 2 years and several thousands of dollars in repairs bills, I gave up and sold it. I love Audi's but I personally would only lease one. But like was said in the video, if you can do it yourself, it could be a great car. To me it looks like a money pit.

      the 1.6 is an old engine, but that doesnt mean it's bad. above 250.000km i would skip it. below that. depends on the maintanence
