Probably been answered already in the comments, but what DSG gearbox does the 1.4 TFsi have? Thinking of trading in my 2011 Polo 1.2 SEL for either a 1.4 TFSI S-Line or a 1.4 ACT Golf GT/R-Line. Not many about with the £30-£35 road tax circa 2014-2016 with low mileage. Although, could be tempted by an older TT I saw in a show room yesterday 😅

Thank you very much for the helpful content. So you're recommending to stay away from the A3 2016 automatic gear? Am I understanding correctly? Or should I check for juddering when starting the drive?
Hi Chemi. In general the 6 speed gearbox is OK (that means it has 6 gears). It’s the 7 speed gearbox that can be known to have more problems. Either way yes, check the car doesn’t judder once up to temperature and pulling away. Good luck!

Hi James. Being diesel it needs to through what’s called a regeneration for its DPF (a special filter in the exhaust). These regenerations take place during longer journeys so if your only ever doing short journeys it doesn’t get a chance to complete. The purpose of them is to burn off built up soot. Try to take it a longer drive once in a while and I’m sure you’ll be just fine!
@@ScottishCarClan thank you, I’ll be doing very short journeys as we’re living in central London. Would you completely steer clear off the 7 speed of the smaller petrol cars? Thanks in advance
@@comeonman7423 The problem with constant short journeys is the diesel particulate filter doesn't get a chance to regenerate and can clog up. I wouldn't steer clear entirely just be extra careful when buying one that theres no judder from the gearbox or you could be landed with a pricey repair!
I am looking at a 2011 (Canadian) A3 with the 2.0L Turbo. It has 177,000 km. Does this configuration have a dry clutch or a wet clutch. I understand that the wet ones are less problematic? Also, how long to the timing chains typically last? Thanks
Hi i have a A3 2015 1.4 sportback.I got it on 106k on the clock with a sstronic gearbox. What are the common problems to look for to make sure it remains in good condition
Such a great channel and wish I found it before I brought my Audi A3 Saloon 1.4 TSFI. Test drove it (only done 18,00) and was fine but when I got home same day, when steering at low speeds has some kind of knocking noise when I pull in and out of drive. Audi has the car and sorting out and saying its some kind of lubrication on the suspension - not sure what you think? Also when driving there is a fluttering/counter noise that happens every 1-2 minutes (can only hear this with stereo off completely) and they cant seem to figure out, just wondering if that is normal as driven four Audi A3s and never hear it!
Hi Nick, hopefully Audi have sorted these out for you now. A knocking noise usually suggests some form of worn suspension component. The fluttering sound... right away I'm thinking possibly the ABS pump your hearing. It should only do it once per start so if its constant then discount that. Does it have the standard air intake on it, if not it may be intake noise. Does it correlate to speed or rpm?
@@ScottishCarClan top man for getting back to me and yes that is what they said after review on knocking noise and waiting for them to deliver car back to me but thanks for confirming 😊 for the other fluttering noise it happens mainly around 30mph but they said didn’t notice so will have to see but thanks again really useful
I wonder which A3 series (engine wise) has tiptronic gearbox ( not stronic) between 2010-2013. Also can we understand psyhcially if its tiptronic or not may be from gear lever o dashboard or something else?
Considering getting a 2015 a3 1.4tfsi. It's an automatic gearbox but not sure which type comes with the 1.4 tfsi? And also is whatever transmission that is reliable? Cheers. Would love some input on that.
I'm either going for the 2.0TDI 150hp model or the 1.8TFSI, I do 107 miles a week just going to work and back not including shopping etc etc. So the Diesel is probably the smarter choice however I'm a pure petrol head so it's a hard one haha! I'm buying the dealership vehicle warranty so the dry clutches aren't a huge worry as I would just get it sorted there. What do you think?
The 1.8tfsi is a great engine. It’s just a shame it’s paired to a rather troubled gearbox, we’ve had to replace them in a few cars. You may have warranty … but it’s still hassle! If you have your heart set go for it but just look out for judder when buying. The diesel on the other hand… not as exciting but pretty bulletproof!
@@ScottishCarClan Thanks for the reply! Yeah the judder might not be there at the time of purchasing, 5k miles down the road it can all go at once! Can’t predict these gearboxes all that well. But thanks for the heads up. 💪

Great review, thanks, have 2015 1.4 tfsi cod, had the coolant leak, at least it had 12 month warranty, so was fine money wise. It’s not something you can find when buying the car, as you can only notice the leak after driving for quite a bit
How is it going? Going to see one tomorrow morning from a big used car dealer. Had cars from them before. Idk if you’re in the UK or not. It has 149k miles but looks very good. Anything I should check in particular for that mileage? Same as yours and also 2015.
@@japanluv seems to be common with VAG cars. I had an A3 8P 2008 which had coolant leak from the water pump which ended up wrecking the whole engine in about 2012, sold that car for scrap. Second time bought a brand new Skoda Fabia 2016 and water pump failed at around 50k miles in 2018.

Good luck!

I’m getting 1.6 TDI , how many miles should I be doing ? Do shorter journeys damage the car ?

@@comeonman7423 The problem with constant short journeys is the diesel particulate filter doesn't get a chance to regenerate and can clog up. I wouldn't steer clear entirely just be extra careful when buying one that theres no judder from the gearbox or you could be landed with a pricey repair!

Hi I’m looking at a 1.4tsfi e tron do these have a timing belt or timing chain , I am interested in buying one today
Hi Nick, I believe the fluttering sound is the car shutting off cylinders and driving in two cylinder mode.
@@lavansiva8168 thanks for the confirmation and glad it’s nothing bad as when audi drove it they said nothing out of the ordinary so thanks again

Great video, a 2014 Audi A3 1.4 tfsi is it a dry clutch? I love the car but scared
Hi Jeffrey, I believe that's a wet clutch. An easy way to tell if it has 6 gears its the wet set up, 7 speed is dry.
Looking at a A3 TDI Sport S Tronic, 1.6lt 2014 automatic diesel today. It’s only done 7,800 miles and is cheap. Should I be worried?
My mom wants a 2014 a3 8v 1.8 turbo with the 7 speed, it is good for like 6k $
