Amen to that! It has aged well for sure. Plus there's so many updates you can do, specifically to the headlights and taillights which transforms it completely.
Such an underated hidden gem of the VAG, a ko4 and minor mods with that DSG make for a very surprisingly fast daily driver. Like having a nicer all wheel drive VW GTI never got why these weren't more saught after
Some advice from an owner of an Audi A3 2.0TDI quattro Pros: - Looks awesome. Timeless design. - Great handling: feels like a bigger car, very stable - Very nice quality in the interior. The seats are perfect. - 2.0 TDI engine is bulletproof. For 4 years now haven't had any problems whatsoever. - The suspension is tough. - The Quattro systems uses Haldex differential and works like a charm. Snow, mud, ice.. no problems. Doesn't impact the fuel mileage all that much. Something like 5% increase. - Resale value is good. Cons: - Not the most practical car in this segment. The cupholders are awkward to use. There aren't many storage spaces. - The ride might seem a little hard for some people. - Rear leg room can be a problem for tall passengers. Conclusion: It is a great car for young people who want a reliable and cool vehicle and don't care too much for practicality. -
I just bought a used one with 100,000 miles, but ac doesn’t blow cold and instrument cluster doesn’t work, steering is a bit stiff also, do you know what could be causing these problems?
Just wanted to say thank you for the review. I wanted A3 8p, searched for various reviews and videos on youtube, but there aren't much of them, especially for 2004-2008 models. So, I find yours very informative and useful. IT made my decision to buy A3 even stronger. Now it's been almost a half of year me owning A3 2.0TDI. Really enjoying it and having much fun in it. 0 regrets so far. Interior quality is great. Non comparable to same years France cars or even Golfs. Power and economy ratio is amazing. I love my car. Thanks again and keep doing it!
Aš 2004 2.0tdi ir turiu (nors man priekis labiau 2005-2008m patinka, su plačiom grotelėm) :) . Turiu nuo spalio. Pravažiavau 15 tūks km. Smagus mašiniukas, 103kw pakankamai tokiai nedidelei auto, 6 bėgių dėžė paverčia tą galią ekonomiška. Telpu į 6 litrus šimtui km. Tikrai nesigailiu pirkiniu.
I purchased one of these today exact same as reviewed (RH drive though) and I love it. As soon as you whipped it into manual and you grinned, you can tell it had a kick. Well reviewed and presenting some great points.
I think this review is a little on the underestimated side of things. Coming from a person who has had multiple fancy AMG's (06 CLS55, 11 C63, 09 ML63, 04 S55) I can say the A3 is truly more fun to drive and grabs more attention, both good and bad (except for the CLS55 - that thing was a magnet), and is better on gas, shockingly fast even stock, and compared to the AMG's steering feel is incredibly sporty, sensitive and intuitive. I got an 07 A3 2.0t dsg as a new daily driver and I am in LOVE with it!!! :)
Bro I like that you actually DRIVE the cars that you test. And the way you explain these cars are in a way my mind likes how it’s done…Like some people only hit it to the 4rpm and go “WOW SHES FAST” like bro wut 😟
Just picked up 2010 A3 2.0T Quattro for $10k Cdn. 160,000 kms, one owner, dealer replaced transmission. I’ve noticed when one owner has driven it for all 160,000 kms it means the owner had confidence in using it on a daily basis and primary vehicle. Unlike my BMW 3 series, I was actually so afraid of driving it in fear something else would break, I ended buying a bicycle as a second mode of transportation. So, If you see a car go thru several owners but lower mileage, it’s a bad sign. Also noticed, there was only a few for sale which is another indicator. Generally, Unreliable cars are in abundance in the market. This is a testimony coming from Lexus/Toyota owner.
Just bought one of these, with a 6spd transmission. My first German car at all, it's going to be just a daily driver for me. I have a long commute to work and dont want to drive my truck or Yukon. So far in the little i've drove it, it's kinda fun! I am probably a bit large for it, but once I wedge myself into it, I feel okay driving it!
Great review, Matt ! I like these cars and have driven many of them. Once I rented a TDI with 140 hp and drove it 500 miles from east to southern germany in under 7 hours, which was really impressive. Handling is even better than the VW Golfs, which is the same platform. But my favourite of this time is still the BMW 1 series hatch :)
I bought a 2009 A3 2.0T FWD used. It was a very good car despite the EPC light that wouldn't shut off. It was pretty quick and fairly reliable. Unfortunately, I hit a giant tire from a semi that I couldn't avoid and it was totaled. Ended up getting a pristine Audi Certified Pre-Owned 2013 A3 TDI. This car has been super reliable! Performed and ECU and DSG tune and I would say this car is almost if not as quick as my old 2.0T plus I get over 55 MPG.
Great review. I bought one exactly like this yesterday - same paint, same wheels, DSG. Only done 115,000kms though. Can't wait to test it up against my mums 05' Golf GTI which is a 6spd manual.
I've been in a TDI and Turbo model, very comfortable cars! Audi is a euro quality brand, especially the Diesel ones they can let you go for long runs, I didn't know much about the DSG transmission a part is quicker than standard manuals!
I very well and informative review Matt. As the owner of a 2006 Audi A3, I mostly agree with all that you said about the vehicle. My car has been absolutely flawless since the day I've owned. The A3 is truly a car of many hats, sporty, economical, practical, and luxurious. I agree that it's main downsides are its vague steering feel and soft suspension. However, I few modifications took care of that on my car. Haha!
i drive this one every day and i love it every time , gives U adrenalin from the moment U seat in it . the motor sound is great like the rally cars this is thx to the audi exhaust system and the turbo works excellent . have this audi for 5 years and still enjoy every moment , sound system ....whooowwww the subwoofer really works fine :-) THX for great video . also this model comes with different seats , so the one in the video model are low and the elbow will not match to your arm , but the one i have is a bit higher seat with the same side support but more sporty one , that match arm with the door rest . :-)))) greetings from Melbourne
So I've been watching your videos Matt and up until this video I had no idea you were from Pittsburgh. I've been to Harrison Auto. Pretty cool. Keep up the good work, from a fellow videographer.
I'm considering an Audi a3 3.2 and a Volkswagen r32.. for me, the audio system and other amenities are very important to me, but I LOVE how fun the r32s are. any suggestions?
I understand that you can't not recommend a car in exchange for getting the car from a used car dealership for free. But I really wouldn't buy this particular car. Except you have another 5K or so lying around for a new DSG. With a 120K+ miles car it's very likely to break in the next few years and there will be barely a transmission shop who can rebuild it. Add another K for the Turbo if it isn't changed already. As great the car drives today it could easily turn into a money pit.
Sprits Yes sir! Got mine after having my license for one year and it's great. The design is timeless and nobody believes me when I tell them that mine is almost 12 years old. Think the review is a bit too much into detail, as the first 8p was build in 2003, so if you compare it to cars from this era, you won't find any flaws.
This is a timing belt motor, I think calls for change around 105,000mi. I've had it done around $450 but I think that was a pretty good price. Calls for premium but you can run regular ok, same as most cars the ECU will keep it from damaging itself but it's a topic some people feel strongly both ways so do your research and see where you fall on it.
+DelScully A3's have Quattro if you pay up for it. the new A3's are only quattro if you get the 2.0 i4. But in the older A3, FWD was standard. Quattro came as an option with the higher trims.
okay so is there a way of installing puddle lights into the car? i dont have any but theres some areas where puddle lights could be installed so is there a way?
anybody can help me out? just saw a deal on same year 2006 audi a3 for 4400 canadian $ is it hard to maintain? it has about 283000 miles on it should i go for it? would be my 1st car
Game Box Well i live in Europe and I have a Skoda with DSG and its only been a ton of problems bought the car new and 4 years later i had problems with the second clutch in the transmission and that needed replacing. It was almost 2000 euros so like 2750 dollars. If the previous owner replaced the parts it should be good make sure to check that the gear box does not leak oil and make sure that if shifts properly in every gear. Thats my advice but i live in Germany so i did abuse my car a little. But when it was working it is excellent :) For more practical use and for lower fuel consumption i would go for a manual but its up to you :)
Another good deal i saw was on a subaru impreza sedan 2003 4800$ manual tranmission 12000 miles Its gonna be my 1st car so wanted something realible and some what fun to drive A bit.confused as to which in should.go.for Probably.wont be driving it harsh at all.for atleast a year I defently keep in mind to check the audi tramission when i test drive it Or Is the subaru a better choice??
Game Box well for fuel consumption I would get the Audi if you travel a lot, but on the other hand the Subaru has a rock solid engine and a good transmission with low millage. I was also considering a Subaru but the fuel consumption again is pretty high. You would probably have more fun in the Subi especially cause its AWD but for everyday use maybe the Audi is better idk
a lot! I do all my own work and still spend about $100 in parts a month (cam follower, sensors, filters, tensioners, pcv valve, diverter valve, worn out interior parts, control arm bushings, etc..). Granted, I drive 150 miles a day. But, there are lots of issues with the 2.0 fsi motor, even the newer version (tsi - year 2008.5 and on). They require a lot of maintenance, and genuine VW/Audi parts are expensive. If you can do your own work, like to tinker, and have a steady job, these cars are great!
@@owlattack1971 hey wondering if you can help me I just got a 2006 with a 100,000 miles, it’s a nice car but has few problems, ac doesn’t blow cold, steering is stiff, and instrument cluster doesn’t work
Jason Greene lol yeah. Myself I have the the DSG version, unfortunately it was the only mint condition A3 I found at the time. I however tried a manual one and it was great but let down by lack of maintenance of the previous owner.
It is just a timeless design. Even 12 years after it still looks modern
Trinie Shepard right 😅 I literally just bought this car as my first car a week ago. Great, solid vehicle.
Welcome to the community.. when do you get it tuned?
My mother brought that car and to be honest its nothing like my alfa 159 from 2005 .
@@mncedisingcobo4 me too:) but went with the 3.2 from the R32. I dont care much about leather and crap, but hey 🤷♂️

Hello there. Can you review the 2010 Facelift 2.0T or the S3 from 2010 ? I would be really interested in that. Thanks
You should check out the 2003-08 BMW Z4, specifically the 3.0 or M model!
new review, VERY GOOD
It's good car for europe.. but is it really for US? Small engine for your standarts & roads.
As great the car drives today it could easily turn into a money pit.
great review bro!
are those the OEM roof racks?
Size of a GTI? Really? Seems a lot lot big, more like a station wagon. Just asking, never seen one in person and considering to get one
TOTO Cult
It’s the design that makes it look bigger. It’s actually a small car.. parked next to an A7 and the A7 is just a tad longer
Its longer than a GTI, a cross between a hatch and a wagon.
would this be a good first car?
Sprits Yes sir! Got mine after having my license for one year and it's great. The design is timeless and nobody believes me when I tell them that mine is almost 12 years old. Think the review is a bit too much into detail, as the first 8p was build in 2003, so if you compare it to cars from this era, you won't find any flaws.
Sprits ooh and get a quattro with sports suspension;)
A3 Aficionado how are the paddle shifters
wow Audi put some tint on your vehicles
crashmantan
They’re slightly tinted
Timing chain?? When should it be changed?? And does that cost an arm and a leg? And...what kind of gas do you have to put into this?
This is a timing belt motor, I think calls for change around 105,000mi. I've had it done around $450 but I think that was a pretty good price. Calls for premium but you can run regular ok, same as most cars the ECU will keep it from damaging itself but it's a topic some people feel strongly both ways so do your research and see where you fall on it.
I was actually thinking of getting this car but i cant find any in iowa
What is the location of the 2008a3 2.0TDI air filter?
Great review!
I wouldn't feel comfortable buying such a high mileage DSG transmission. The cost of repairing those usual equates to having the car written off. :/
Just saw this one in Canada. It cost 7800 dollars and it is in manual and the km is around 90,000 to 95,000km. Do you you think it is is worth it?
if its quattro buy it, it will be worth every penny in the snow plus it can make some good power with simple bolt one like a Apr tune
+Arash Rafati a3's arent quattro.
DelScully its an option not all of them have it, that's why I said if it has quattro not it has quattro
+DelScully A3's have Quattro if you pay up for it. the new A3's are only quattro if you get the 2.0 i4. But in the older A3, FWD was standard. Quattro came as an option with the higher trims.
DelScully they are haldex.
okay so is there a way of installing puddle lights into the car? i dont have any but theres some areas where puddle lights could be installed so is there a way?
Death__ Cloud__ how are the paddle shifters
how is the DSG ? Is it solid? I heard replacement is very expensive
If you do the maintenance, meaning changing the fluid at the Audi dealer then it is solid.
hi is 2009 audi a3 2.0 tfsi motor with dsg gearbox problematic? I heard the gearbox breaks and it costs lot to replace with new one
The clutchpack goes out faster, and a lot of them had issues with the mechatronics (TCU).
You should always maintain it, changing the fluids every 3 years or every 60k. It costs about 600$ at the Audi dealer.
I have the same one in quattro, with te same engine and transmission
this whip clean asl
Great review! Could you upload a review of a Dodge Charger? Would be awesome! Keep up the good work :)
great video matt, which slider did you get?
It's a Glide Gear.
BUT IS IT NICE?
VERY VERY NICE
Anyone know how tall he is? He looks pretty small in that seat, wondering if that's just how the car sits?
5'9
new equipment? haha nice intro
4:43 that's what she said???
This DSG seems slow?
Yeah fr
Nope.
Great video! looking to buy one next week but the quattro @subaruwrxfan
that intro could have been an advertisement
why do you upload so late at night?
Review a 04 mustang cobra
Do you get the audi s3 in this shape in the US?
Not yet, we'll be getting the new one though.
Nope.
do the paddle shifters come in all audi a3 2.0ts like these or just the manual ones?
They come with the automatics where you can switch it over into "manual mode". The manuals have the regular stick and clutch.
What insurance like on these babies. Clean recorded I'm 19
anybody can help me out?
just saw a deal on same year 2006 audi a3 for 4400 canadian $
is it hard to maintain?
it has about 283000 miles on it
should i go for it?
would be my 1st car
Well it has kind of a lot of miles but are you getting the dsg or manual ?
Dsg,
The guy mentioned he has most the things replaced with new ones which were supposed to be changed in the future
Game Box
Well i live in Europe and I have a Skoda with DSG and its only been a ton of problems bought the car new and 4 years later i had problems with the second clutch in the transmission and that needed replacing.
Another good deal i saw was on a subaru impreza sedan 2003
4800$ manual tranmission
12000 miles
Its gonna be my 1st car so wanted something realible and some what fun to drive
A bit.confused as to which in should.go.for
Probably.wont be driving it harsh at all.for atleast a year
I defently keep in mind to check the audi tramission when i test drive it
Or
Is the subaru a better choice??
Game Box
well for fuel consumption I would get the Audi if you travel a lot, but on the other hand the Subaru has a rock solid engine and a good transmission with low millage. I was also considering a Subaru but the fuel consumption again is pretty high. You would probably have more fun in the Subi especially cause its AWD but for everyday use maybe the Audi is better idk
i don't understand why my knee touch the key in this car..
Do a review on 2013 mazdaspeed 3 please
All automatic A3 have DSG transmission?
shakir182 yup
There is no space for my driving-beer?!
how much would it cost to maintain this car?
@@owlattack1971 hey wondering if you can help me I just got a 2006 with a 100,000 miles, it’s a nice car but has few problems, ac doesn’t blow cold, steering is stiff, and instrument cluster doesn’t work
it's good luck of course
Looks like a lowered suv
Anyone else got the 6spd manual?
Its a delight to drive, much better than the DSG. Also its cheaper to maintain
@@duncanidaho7494 i definitely agree. I'm always hearing you can't shift as fast as my auto 🤣 last guy broke his dsg trying to prove this.
Jason Greene lol yeah. Myself I have the the DSG version, unfortunately it was the only mint condition A3 I found at the time.
I however tried a manual one and it was great but let down by lack of maintenance of the previous owner.
That's sad because the manuals are getting harder to find in America unless you can afford to but new
Jason Greene indeed. Even in the new market , there are very few premium brands that still have manual models.
.....you have side windows.....
Very niiiiiice
reaaally nice
Poor guy , he said volkswageny , little did he know , audi is Vw....
+yancy reyes thats why he said it.
yeah is al nice, nice
