I reluctantly SBR’d one of my lowers without SilencerShop. Just went through my ATF account for eform1 application. I was approved in 6days. I even had to resubmit my finger print cards because my local gun shop were I did them didn’t sign them. I called the ATF immediately after I realized, and they noted that, then told me to redo my prints, and resend them. That was the day before this past Thanksgiving. I got approved the following Tuesday. I was kinda surprised after some people telling me they waited up to 60 days.

You can switch the caliber or barrel length on your SBR temporarily without telling the ATF. For example, you can switch between a 300 blackout and 556 upper on your SBR lower for a range day or match. You just need to go back to the original configuration when finished or traveling with the SBR.

Atf doesn't list all of firearms in the drop downs, only the ones that it has they have done research on. So even if they don't have it on SS website, you will prob be delayed/ pending research. Also, you do not need to send in different calibers or barrel lengths per atf. Changing the barrel is considered to be a temp change, but the original barrel size and cal. on the form 1 must be maintained/ be converted back.

It’s not hard to do a Form 1 with ATF online if you already have your photo, Form 5320.23 “responsible person form”, and Trust “if putting it on a Trust” in a file and ready to uploaded. All you need to do after submitting it is to mail in the fingerprint cards(2) and a copy of the Form 1 application to the CLEO. The only advantage I see by using the Silencer Shop is the fingerprint part. You don’t need to go and purchase a fingerprint card (10-20) each, need 2 copy. Maybe that will be enough to do it with Silencer Shop and that you also have someone to verify the application for error.

I’ve basically justified it as paying someone to do paperwork for you. Like filing taxes, most people can definitely do it themselves for free, but the majority won’t. Silencer Shop is definitely charging a premium but it’s for a service that many people are not going to want to bother their time with.

@@HaiTran but you’re still inputting all the same information on their website that you would to do the efile yourself. You’d still have to go do or have done fingerprints at a kiosk. It’s literally no different than just doing the efile yourself.

You don’t input anything but what I showed with the firearm info. Everything else was done over a year ago for my Form 4. My fingerprints are the same from the past and I did not do it again. If your starting fresh then yes, you’re entering info.
Now that I think about it, this does seem like a system for those who have use Silencer Shop in the past for their their NFA filings.
With the regular ATF eform site, do they store all the info or are you reentering every time?

Yeah, they offer people another choice. Some will find comfort in having an expert party looking through everything and increasing the chances of getting an approval.

I’m still not sure why they even need to offer this service, as well as add an additional layer of complexity to a not so difficult process.
You can do physical fingerprint cards or digital EFT fingerprints at pretty much any gun shop, and those gun shops have the appropriate NFA fingerprint cards. Additionally, one can simply go to the e-forms website and submit a form one without having to pay 50+ dollars for the service, +5 dollars additional on the tax stamp.
There’s an excellent step by step walk-through available on TH-cam for eform1’s, whether it be individual or with. This is the process I used for my SBR back in June. It was 9 days turnaround total.

To each their own I suppose. Just another way to get it done for those who are comfortable with the Silencer Shop ecosystem. But man 9 days turnaround sounds pretty amazing. I have to see how long it takes for me currently before I dive in and SBR a bunch of other stuff.

Nah this is a great option for people who already are setup to buy with silencer shop.

Definitely since most of the information required is already on file.

@@cspecracingcsr2720 it’s already on file with the ATF as well. You have to create a e-forms account regardless. And the information you type in for Silencer Shop hasta match the information in your e-forms account exactly regardless. It’s just adding an additional layer of oversight. I don’t have to wait for Silencer Shop to approve my paperwork before sending it off to the ATF. The advantage there is that they already have your fingerprints in their system, as well as a appropriately sized photograph. That in itself is worth something, but there are other companies doing the EFT digital fingerprints for substantially less than 50 bucks. And they actually give you a copy of the file so you can upload it in the future yourself. Silencer Shop doesn’t want to relinquish the EFT files, but they are happy to send you a physical copy of your fingerprints on the card for a fee.
Are use them to purchase my Sandman S recently, and the process was pretty flawless other than they left the upin question unanswered. I was thinking I was going to get a denial for 8 1/2 months because of that, but it went through.
I guess this will work, but like anything, you were just paying for convenience. Convenience for something you shouldn’t have to even pay for at all.
