How to E-file ATF form 1 for DIY suppressor - Individual

  • IMPORTANT UPDATE: I've had a few people reach out saying that their confirmation email and documents says "draft" across the front of them and the email says "pending research". If you put your own serial number and/or model number this will happen to you, but DO NOT WORRY. It basically just means that the alphabet bois need some time to verify that everything is alright. Just wait, and in a few days, you'll get an email saying that your application status has changed from "pending research" to "submitted/ In process". Once you get that email, you will also get new copies of your form 1 paperwork. The ones that say "ATF copy" on them will need to be sent to the ATF with your fingerprint cards. The ones that say "CLEO copy" need to be sent to your CLEO. That is exactly what I did after doing this form and my form 1 just came back as approved exactly 31 days after sending out my paperwork.
    My first time filing the ATF form 1. I’m doing this as an individual, not as a trust, and for a suppressor / silencer, not for a SBR. Let’s walk through it together.
    If you’re interested in finding out whether or not I got approved, feel free to check back in about 30 days or subscribe so you get notified. I’m planning on posting a few videos of my DIY suppressor / silencer plans and build once the paperwork is approved and in-hand.
    Note: I’m not sure why the audio doesn’t match my mouth. When I uploaded the video to youtube it messed it all up. And I’m not going to re-upload the whole video again.

    I followed these directions exactly and my e-file went from research to submitted/in process in 4 hours. Had my cover sheet and form by that afternoon. I for sure didn’t expect that! Trying to get fingerprint cards was a challenge during covid times. My local sheriff office didn’t have any. Said they don’t do printing anymore. I ended up tracking some down at my local ATF field office. You can also get the fingerprint cards off Amazon. Great walkthrough!

      @@ZachTries for all your followers in the same position that have their 2 blue fingerprints done and only waiting for the ATF to release the pend.. Well I noticed if you go back to your Eform and hit “my form” you can print out 2 copies of your Eform that is auto filled out to what you created, your picture and all is on there. Could you send those with your fingerprints to both places to be ahead the curve?
      OR must wait/need that cover page on the next Email that states “submitted” email?
      Just curious, because say it’s a month and if you can send all your paperwork out almost a week earlier then hypothetically you could be cutting your wait time down by(the pending time) a week/more- 1/4th or more of the entire process.
      - Food for thought.
      My story - I’ve done the form1 for SBR, etc & prints before BUT never able to finish as the AFT Eform site would alway crash Before finishing and never got the email part so that’s the part that idk, and where your helpfulness comes in.

    Ok - just submitted form 1 about a week ago. The instructions indicate 2 things that make no sense. 1 - it says you send a copy of application to the head LEO in your area prior to submission - but the e-form only shows up as draft - so are supposed to send a copy of application to LEO with “Draft” emblazoned all over it? 2 - it also says fingerprint kit with the emailed cover letter etc must be postmarked no later than 10 days after submission - I have yet to receive this email, don’t expect I will get it in 10 days - I also see here some folks saying it took 30-60 days just to get the email cover letter with instructions. --- so am I missing something or is the ATF this loose and screwed up on how they administer this? I’m pretty sure if I started making my suppressor prior to their approval, they won’t be so loose with the rules. Any help/thoughts appreciated.

      @heroofharo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be careful what you say if you go that route. If you bought parts with the intent to manufacture a suppressor, by the ATFs logic, you bought and possess suppressor parts. If you bought a fuel filter, and decided it's a crap filter and you would like to turn it in to a suppressor, congratulations, that's totally legal. That's the way it's been explained to me on multiple occasions and I believe it.

The only viable way I can think of is to take pictures of the kits online or physically in a store (without buying them) and then after getting approved , then you can purchase the kit. @@Pskinn Great question. So if you go buy one from a dealer or make it yourself, you have to pay the $200 tax stamp for either one. Buying one from a dealer is going to be great quality, great materials, and pretty close to indestructible. Most suppressors come with a "life-time warranty" so if anything did happen you can get a replacement. The only downside is that you'll probably be paying close to or upwards of $500 for a good one (not counting the $200 for the tax stamp). The one that I made after doing this form cost me maybe $50, but I had to give up some quality and durability to do it.
