i think theres a difference. people being manipulative, whether intentional or not, or creepy. thats much more real than being a murder clown. this is the type of stuff one takes seriously, maybe because theyve had personal experiences related to this, its the same reason some people dont like vriska but might like fuckin idk gamzee or whatever. they had a personal experience that makes that type of character flaw hit close to home. its ok to discuss whether characters are good or bad or about the deeper personality of the characters, but at the end of the day theyre just that
characters.
you dont have to give them a fair chance if you dont like something about them because they arent real. as long as you are not mean to actual people i think you can hate characters, and make jokes about characters all you want.
but this is obviously a lighthearted joke that ive gone and looked too deep into, i do however feel like its easy to lose perspective in stuff like this. i remember from the vriska days.

i highkey love this guy!! i have really bad social anxiety + zebede actually captures some of that meeting-somebody-for-the-first-time-fuck-up-and-your-life-is-ruined kind of feeling really well. and yeah, he's got flaws- he's a bit emotionally manipulative, but i don't think that it's entirely purposeful! i just think he's bad w social things and has a bad habit of guilt tripping. his good route is his best interpretation, imo
Honestly? Even though real-person fic is my absolute limit as far as internet weirdness goes, Zebede as a person is sweet. It seems from his route that his guilt tripping and emotional manipulation stem from social isolation more than anything, and yes, traits like these can turn relationships into nightmares - but they can also get better when you get to know new people and learn how important their happiness and freedom can be. He seemed to really need someone to make him feel like he was understood, and I really hope he can relax with the MC.
I'd put him in the same bag as Tirona, personally: both are flawed and misguided, though in widely different ways. Both badly seek recognition and comfort. Both seem to be divisive amongst the fandom. Both are likeable, imho.
What I really, really loved about Zebede's route, though, was the acknowledgement that him and the MC were similar in a way. The MC themself has been a pretty terrible human being on several occasion in order to be validated. It's nice that this is 1) acknowledged, rather than glossed over, and 2) becomes a way for the MC to emphathise with Zebede. Given Hiveswap's audience, it's nice that social anxiety is portrayed as being something even the hero can be experiencing.
im just gonna say this now. i appreciate this so god damn much. i cant afford the friendsims so i always feel left out. your videos make me so happy, i literally cry. thank you for making these and please continue to make them!!

I'd assume so as well! The other possibility was just good old '90s boy bands, but the Friendsim has seemed more rooted in the 2010's than in the 90' so far.

I don't know about the drama with a scrapped character but geez, people are mean to this guy. Fanfics of IRL people are gross but I don't think he's trying to manipulate the player. He's just too open with what he's thinking. I've been in a place where I literally had no friends and it's easy to start feeling entitled if you don't get to talk to... anyone.
