I think the thing with Zebede is that, yeah, he's emotionally manipulative, he's a tool, and he has a whole ass mental breakdown in front of the MC. He beats himself up for emotional support, but that's because it's literally all he knows how to do (at least, during the Friendsim. I'm hoping he grows past that in Hiveswap). It takes hours to even reach his hive, and considering he's that far away from civilization, it's basically expected of him to be socially stunted. When he talks to the MC, he backtracks multiple times specifically to make sure that he doesn't imply anything mean, because he's *literally had so few interactions with other trolls* that he doesn't know how to really talk to people. He wrote an RPF of Cirava, too, and that can't be excused, but it can still be addressed. Zebede's had so fucking few personal interactions that he doesn't know what he's doing, or even a lot of the basics of having conversations that don't spiral into awkward situations. He has fuck of a clue how to behave around people, and honestly? it shows.
As far as I'm concerned, he's still a good character. Hell, I even run a WhatBlog for him, so there's a little bias there. But I'd rather address how he's *not* perfect, how he's *not* a flawless cinnamon bun of a troll, because he's borderline socially illiterate and can't carry out a conversation without guilt tripping himself to get the attention he usually has no access to.

I like it. It does break the "chiptunes and memes" motif of the other goldbloods...maybe because he's not psionic?
Cirava already broke that with their -vaporwave- moisturewave.

I love how divisive Zebede is. I love the complexity he has as a character as well as the complexity he grants to the community. So many people love him for different reasons, and those can be the same exact reasons why he is hated by others. What a well-written character! So much to analyze, so much to think about, so much to love!
I love him because past me is literally him minus the fan fiction and I just wanna hug all his sads away
I love love love how his arc is this intense realization for the protag, despite being one of the least threatening routes in the game, because *you've finally met someone just as lonely as you are*

And maybe he is just saying what he really thinks aloud, not to make you feel bad but what happens is that he is so used to people letting him down that once he has signs like those in the Friendsim he doesn't even try anymore and just open his mind to you. That or he is manipulative, could be both

Oh man, I almost forgot about the green and pink (magenta? or maybe fuchsia because Meenah was up there?) moons.
But uhh, the theme is alright. I don't like it as much as the other ones but Zebede is a good boy so that makes up for it
James put it this way:
_this track presented a unique problem in that i didn’t want to write it at the time. I had written a really somber and melancholic track for the area outside the hive (the farm in the concept art) and changing it into something a little goofier and weird presented a unique difficulty for me. I just didn’t know what to do for the first time in like actual YEARS i had no idea where to even start. I kept at it for a very long time and eventually just muscled through it with sheer force of will. People often ask me the hardest track or my least favorite to work on. it was this one. silver lining: its also become one of my favorites. i love how it came out. thats the power of determination. did you know you can’t say determination anymore._

Due to the fact that Zebede was based off of a real person , I want to take down my psychoanalysis of the character for the sake of privacy . Basically all you need to know is Zebede is awesome and deserves a lot in life , kay ? Like - seriously , you might not like him cuz of some stuff - but trust me , he's a really good character .

Search for "Hiveswap Asset Reel" on TH-cam, a video should come up as the first result that shows a bunch of old indev 3D models for Hiveswap.
Those models include some trolls that didn't make it into the final game, such as:

"yes, the fabled beekeeper troll that nobody will talk about. its become some sort of myth as to what happened to her but the truth isn’t that exciting. in early hiveswap days each member of the crew got to “pick” a character that they could choose one design element of. The person who picked beekeeper just had a fantroll based off of herself. they also just… drew micro/macro porn of themselves? a power move, honestly. I met them in person and they offered me weed within literal minutes of meeting so i mean i guess they seemed nice. when they no longer worked for the company it was just simpler to redesign the character than deal with literally any of that. mystewy sowved :)
at the point in production where they were figuring out names/personalities/traits they kinda thrust this one on me because it “would make the most people angry.” beekeeper troll was beloved by a very specific kind of horny dude. you know the kind that regularly says “lewds” or w/e. nothin wrong with that i guess. chase your bliss. but in an effort by my SO CALLED FRIENDS to antagonize me, they were like _“heh h h e h he e e he h what if we make this cute girl character that hornyboys love into a dumpy little round dude and then say we based him off james who they already do not like.”

She was basically the self-insert of an artist who eventually left, so rather than deal with all that, they scrapped the design after she left.
Also, people were weirdly creepily horny for the beekeeper, so instead, they based his new design off of James Roach, the musician for this piece, specifically to piss creepy horny dudes off lmao

I read there was another troll who happened to be a gold blooded beekeeper troll , who was a self insert of an artist who left the project , ergo the character was likely pulled in order to not misrepresent her , and again likely respect her wishes for the involvement of the character .
god i hated this guy. genuinely his guilttripping vibes made me immediately wanna leave his hive and never return. i know the fandom loves him but he's giving some serious "toxic sanders sides fan" vibes.

Keys' Dream Back when Hiveswap was going to be in 3D, there was a female troll that was a beekeeper, but the 3D models all looked like shit, so What Pumpkin decided to scrap the whole 3D shit and make the game 2D, and when they did that, the female beekeeper troll was scrapped, along with a lot of other trolls that were gonna be in Hiveswap. Then, when Troll Call started revealing trolls, Zebede was also a beekeeper, so people came to the conclusion that Zebede was her replacement.
Fotu oh well zebede has his own theme so I say he's pretty original
Keys' Dream he’s bot based off of her, rather, all characters are based off of “descriptors” such as Cherun being “Gatherer”. Of course, old beekeeper and Zebede are “Beekeeper”. The old person who made her was gone, and it was essentially her self insert, so the team made Zebede instead, whos actually based on the dude who made this song. Theres a tumblr post that explains this better on his blog
