The 4:44 one can easily be explained, actually. In Japan, these hints were dropped by reading the box in a different direction. The “13” is a translation of something equally bad luck. But the stuff like “here’s how you break the curse” is actually how you purify cursed tools into... purified tools. Yeah.
I did a quick check and your absolutely right about Mineral Town. The cursed tools are rare items that can only be obtained in the winter from a dungeon. You can't remove them wants you equip them and they have varying ways to purify them.

@@SamuelShiina Doing God's work. It's definitely an interesting way to go for an easter egg, and at the very least it confirmed that the 4's in the original weren't a bug. To offer a theory about 6:00, I could guess the barrels' texture did originally say "Barrel of ****" in some beta build of the game as a joke, but they might've changed it last-minute when someone at the ESRB figured out what it said, but then whoever was working on the PS3 release got all the assets from a nearly-complete beta build that still had the old barrel textures.
i love his little intro clips where he looks away right as something crazy happens. think of how many people have done that and will never know something appeared in their favorite game
I kinda know a little about the Mr. Massagy one. The writer is Sean Callaghan, he works (or worked) at Green Lava Studios. James was a friend of his from many years ago. Both were drug users and would drink and do cocaine together. After a drug binge, James had a little too much cocaine and after a heated argument with Sean, he shot himself. I heard this story from a friend of mine who knew both Sean and James so it could very well be not 100% accurate. From what I heard from this person, Sean struggled with alcoholism and lost custody of his daughter, but as of today, seems to have recovered from addiction.
@oddheader For the half life XCCR website, between December 2006 and June 2007 (You can look on archive site) there is more than just the code prompt that is shown in the video. It displays a site of flashing squares of varying colors that when hovered over are named "Bunker 1-#" ranging from Bunker 1-1 to Bunker 1-252. Each "Bunker" can be clicked on, and it tells you whether it's occupied or not. You even have the choice to apply to join the bunker, change the bunker name and color, and sometimes it displays the value of the bunker. Doing so doesn't do anything, and after pressing enter it just resets to what it was. Either way, the bunker "logic" could be referencing Half Life (For obvious reasons) or Lost (for obvious reasons). Either way, I think the cryptic Lost message that gives instructions was meant mainly for this window of time, in which bunker doors could be opened/closed in order to unlock the reward, and required 1 uninterrupted person attempting to solve it. Every time the person solving the code was interrupted by another person trying to solve it, a bunker door elsewhere would close/open, changing the outcome. This would make the code impossible unless 1 person (who knew what the hell they were doing) went uninterrupted, or everyone worked together, which was equally as impossible. There are also 252 individual bunkers that a person can click on. The only relevance I could find for this is the angelic meaning, "This number could suggest that you should try a bit harder because you're just a few steps away from achieving your goal and success."
If memory serves right the Mabinogi secret is referencing a camera girl that was seen in the Korean version (not sure if she appeared in the other versions). This camera girl had a UFO above her head and a camera/camcorder on her. She had the default apperance and wore the basic gear. They were just translating the signs as is and didn't know when or if the camera girl would be implemented. I believe there is another sign hidden in the grass elsewhere on the outskirts of Dunbarton. They were most likely just for those curious to explore the maps in the early days.
I know while playing Jak 2, you can pause and switch discs with Jak & Daxter, then play as Jak 2 Jak in Sandover Village, but it's really creepy and eerie feeling because it's quiet and empty.
I remember decoding a large encoded message on Jak III about the anniversary of the death of their dog. Her name was Morgan and she was still missed even years later.
This was apparently for some sort of contest on the game's official Japanese website, though no official materials outside of Japan are known to acknowledge this feature, despite it being accessible in non-Japanese copies. Information on the contest itself is slim.
@Courier 6 remember how they said it’s a person name this and that they never said the other player name so it’s a 75/75 chance that’s have to be the code
And then promptly the company would have removed it and reprimanded the guy, its very obviously a joke to make people feel weirded out and uncomfortable, if it was ever real then a stunt that blatant would not have made it past into release.
@@TheMadalucard I think this is real in some form because in GLS newest game Mayo 2 the same guy who is called Sean Callaghan and works as PR Manager wrote about his messy divorce, visitation with his 7yr old daughter and going to therapy so considering he signs both with his real initials it could possibly be true or an inside joke.

Kind of cool to come back to these videos and see people giving insights to some of these mysteries. Since I either haven't heard of these games, haven't played them, or just didn't pay attention, it's cool to see game devs having fun in the background.
Mabinogi player here, I can offer a small additional detail about the first mystery. To enter dungeons such as Alby dungeon (the first dungeon in the game) you must sacrafice an item on the altar. Depending on what item you sacrafice, a different diablo-style randomly-generated dungeon is created, with rarer items giving you a more difficult dungeon. This sign seems to imply that sacraficing a camera to alby dungeon will give you a unique money-making dungeon, perhaps.
In regards to the Green lava studio game with the weird credits story, there is ALSO another game from that studio that also has a weird credits story in My Name is Mayo 2. In that game the credits is like a diary of a guy trying to make the game and use Tinder to find a date since they are lonely. Recommend playing the game, finish all the trophies then click on The last Prize or whatever to get to the credits. It’s incredibly bizarre and I didn’t know he did that for other games, how many other stories are out there?
@@joao20able good question. I think it could be a mixture of both, but the idea of having some kind of lore connected between the company’s different titles is a really cool idea to form a “true” story of the game going on there

The lucky chicken sounds like a reference fron the book, "flatland" I believe the book started when strange looking shape appeared, but even the roundest of the shapes could not be that perfectly round, such a impossibility in definition. Maybe the "polygon" "pixels" terms refer to circles and spheres.
4:40 person that played both versions for over like, 200-300 hours here!! These messages refer to the cursed Fishing rod and cursed sickle respectively. Each tool has multiple versions, 1 is the regular one you start out with. version 2-5 is the ones you get by leveling them up with an ore (Copper, silver gold, mystrile). There is a version of all of the tools in state in which they are cursed, these can be found in the mines. All of them have a different method to have the curse broken (The fishing rod needs to be swung 50 times, the sickle needs to be equipped for 5 days straight), and once the curse is broken you’re rewarded with an insanely good tool. So yeah nothing too strange actually. Just a hint on how to break the curse!

I'd hardly say the Gherritt White terminal is unsolved. It's basically Durandal's manifesto after going rampant and woving revenge on the researcher who created him to then force him into rampancy in order to experiment on Durandal to see how a rampant AI can be used.
12:40 The Wayback Machine doesn't list every time a site was updated, just how many times someone saved it. It even says this at the bottom of every single page when you search for a site. "This calendar view maps the number of times [the website] was crawled by the Wayback Machine, not how many times the site was actually updated." Doesn't really inspire confidence that such an obvious detail that Archive, org has been correcting at the bottom of search pages for years was overlooked by the guy supposedly vetting info for this video.
That first one makes me think there was a secret button that could only be pressed with the right camera angle. The sign, which happens to be accessible only via your camera, is telling you to use the same trick to enter Alby dungeon.
The XCCR mystery honestly feels like it was part of some Half-Life ARG that never really took off, though I always saw it as just some in-universe brand logo that didn't have any real significance whatsoever.
@5:05 That jumbled mess looks EXACTLY like a Base64 encoding. Wouldn't be surprised if you got another hint after inputting that sequence into a Base64 decoder. I would do it myself, but I don't know where to find the full sequence. Hope this helps!
I don't know about that code exactly, but the curse breaking one was a hint to upgrade some cursed tools in the game. Its likely whatever that text becomes is a hint to another secret in the game

Those credits sound like they were written by someone on acid, shrooms, speed, and some pixe stixs. For the half life one try WHEN YOU YOU WHEN WHEN WHEN WHEN YOU WHEM as a code.
To answer the 1st mystery. Camera Girl was a promotional NPC for the game that provided "live screenshots" of various events, promos, and beta material every 30 seconds for non-beta testers. She was introduced in 2003 for the Korean version and in 2009 for the Japanese version. However, she was never included in the NA version and she was removed from the Korean and Japanese versions of the game back in 2011. The sign was merely an easter egg from Korea when the game was brought over to NA. The weird formatting is supposedly due to NEXON America directly translating without proper localization (but tbf it still sends a clear enough message). With how dungeons work in the game, you drop an item at the altar at the entrance and the game generates a dungeon depending on the item. Her camera was always a NPC-only item, so its unknown if the camera actually did anything (most likely it didn't do anything special). I do have the server files for Mabinogi so it could be something to test out. Edit: just found out one of the MabiPro admins already gave an answer, oh well lol. At least this covers more of the history rather than the technical aspects.
idk if it was mentioned before, but the sign in mabinogi most likely refers to a girl literally named "cameragirl", which was part of the korean servers live screen service, where she would stand around event areas or places with many characters. She was actually a "player" that behaved like an npc. She did indeed have a camera called the "handycam set" but it was never made available to players, and she never existed on the NA servers. the sign is a direct translation from korean, since it wasn't localized too well it's probably safe to assume no one really looked at it, and it went forgotten. TL;DR we can't get the item it refers to, so i don't think we'll solve the mabinogi mystery any time soon. There are also these wooden statues placed in various parts of the world that i've never been able to find anything about, 2 are reachable and when hit drop generic items that hitting any tree would drop. along with one out of bounds that you can't reach, if there's more i've never seen them.

But the ways they list aren't the exact ways to purify. The fishing rod takes 255 uses and the sickle takes ten days

For the half life XCCR website, between December 2006 and June 2007 (You can look on archive site) there is more than just the code prompt that is shown in the video.
This explanation is so complicated and in depth that it could make sense. How did you find this out? =-O

Depending on what item you sacrafice, a different diablo-style randomly-generated dungeon is created, with rarer items giving you a more difficult dungeon. This sign seems to imply that sacraficing a camera to alby dungeon will give you a unique money-making dungeon, perhaps.

That Jak and Daxter easter egg was genuinely so cool.
Finally, consistently refreshing the youtube front page pays off!!!!!
idk if it was mentioned before, but the sign in mabinogi most likely refers to a girl literally named "cameragirl", which was part of the korean servers live screen service, where she would stand around event areas or places with many characters.
TL;DR
we can't get the item it refers to, so i don't think we'll solve the mabinogi mystery any time soon.
There are also these wooden statues placed in various parts of the world that i've never been able to find anything about, 2 are reachable and when hit drop generic items that hitting any tree would drop. along with one out of bounds that you can't reach, if there's more i've never seen them.
