I had an all black t-40 like 4 years ago and I have to say it was the slowest clunkiest 4 string bass I've ever played and I play mostly p basses. I got it for $175 with the case so I can't complain too much. I really can't believe what these things are going for now.

man those pickups have quite the bass in them. Considering that it sounds like you're playing fingerstyle
you should try the ones that dont have the magnets poking out of them... otherwise known as the Peavey T40 toaster pickups, because all they have is that blackness to them no magnet poking out, they're even darker then the ones you see here, but then again this is quite fine because you see, the pickups remind me of a gibson thunderbird, theyre thunderous alright... not much brightness going for them, even if you put them on single coils those single coils gonna sound like a nice vintage rounded warm 60's jazz bass, and the humbuckers, are gonna sound exactly like a gibson thunderbird
