I bought a 79 as my first bass in 2019. It has the same chrome problem and pickup wear that yours has, but it plays incredibly. The prices of these has really shot up!
I have a 79 that I picked up about 20years ago. It has the plastic on the pick guard but only in the area of the labels for the controls. I would say it’s near mint, it’s in amazing condition.
I know this video is 2yo now but in case anyone is curious what causes chrome pitting, acidic skin oil breaks down chrome. Some people have abnormally sweaty hands. That's why you should always wipe your guitar down after playing, especially the chrome.
Both very nice 40s, the chrome pitting seems to be random and inevitable if it happens. Hope you didn't have to give an arm or leg for either of them with the way the current market for T series instruments is.
Screw rust?! Minor scratches?! On 40 & 42 year old basses?! Come on bro, you have 2 classic Peavey T40's and one is a 5 string! And we don't get to hear one note from either one! Not even how the craftsmanship and weight handles a low B string?! And the video is 10 minutes long! Oh! The floor was starting to get dirty in front of the Van Gogh exhibit! Case latch oxidation- 40 year old pick up plastic protection starting to come loose?! Some very rude bird took a dump on the field the day that Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's home run record! What an abstract and misguided video that squanders the viewers anticipation

Use sweatbands too.
I bought mine from Ed King in Cape May, NJ. I had no idea who he was.

The word that you’re looking for is oxidation
Pickups sound very different? I have toaster pick T-40 so curious about how blades pickup sound.
Đàn này kết hợp với tech 21 sansamp thì tuyệt vời nhỉ?
If you don't mind what price were each bass?
For sale?
Leave the plastic on.

Neither one of these are 5 string, but It does bother me that he focused on such dumb stuff, with such awesome basses present
