Absolutely, positively the most underrated bass ever made. First bass ever made with a cnc machine, American made, passive pickups yet can mimmick any bass, is both single coil and humbucker. Amazing thing. I adore mine.
This was my first bass! $200 in 1985 and loved all the weird sounds and cool tones I could get out of it. I wish I still had it, but traded it in for a Jazz bass and never looked back, until a few weeks ago. When I saw a the guitar equivalent (T60) on the wall at Thunder Road Guitars (Seattle). I asked about finding the T40 and he said they are now going for 1K to 1.6K 😳
Finally found one for sale at Guitar Center after years of waiting and hoping. I get to pick it up next week. This is going to be a long week... Thanks for showing us what this magnificent two ton tone machine can do.
I love my Peavey T-40. One of the best made basses ever. Absolutely love mine. I have never played a better made, better sounding or better playing bass in my life. OK, I admit, a day or two after a gig with my T-40, I ask myself if I should play a Steinberger. But it would never sound like this!
Johnny, you are one intense dude but I like your style and your playing is legit. Great review/evaluation of one of the best basses ever made. Respect.
I JUST found one of these a couple days ago in a pawn shop in my home town and you've made a video on it! Just recently! Talk about luck. Hopefully grabbin it for $300 -$400. 1982 natural finish. Bit of a fixer upper, but WORTH IT. Somebody put a damn thumb rest on it, I'm so pissed. Gonna have to fill the holes
Wow you found one, I would call her Heavy, I have one and will never let it go, it is underrated but i love the different tones it produce. Good Job. Sha da Kai kai. You would think it is active the way it sound but it is a very strong Passive
Beautiful bass! I've got a black 81 T-40. I can't get that amount of sweet treble out of mine. I use DR Stainless steel Hi beams. It should be full of mid and treble goodness. I guess I'll have to open her up and see if I have any issues with the pots. The neck is straight and the action is low. I should be getting great bite out of the frets just like my Rickenbacker.
I have the same guitar in the same colors. I bought mine in 1981. It cost about $460. It was a little more expensive than the natural finish with the natural fretboard.
Had one in Black in 1982. Bought it used for around 175 and sold it for that or less in 1986. Stupid move, I know, but I've got a lot of stupid stories like that. Wish I still had it.
Whats up bro. I see you got a great peavy, I had the natural wood one. T-40 any way I love the tone you managed to get out of it. LOL Hit me up if your looking to buy another high end bass, such as Roscoe 5string. peace!!

Yeah Baby! I Got Mine. Thanks Johnny for showin us how the knobs and switches work.
Coolest under the radar bass out there. It can do any style and sound better then most of the basses known for that style.
