Uh...have you never seen an old pre-2000's trailer? They actually walked through the beginning to the end of the movie for 3 minutes, the whole plot and everything. Trailers use to spoil every single thing in a movie in order. Just hating because it's popular to hate on modern stuff 😂

Given how wild silver age superman was, this was a near perfect adaptation of that. Literal galaxy-moving time-travelling god managing his secret identity and his love interest with a simple human while falling prey to the silliest of weaknesses.

Chris Reeve is the only Superman actor that convincingly played Clark Kent as an entirely different persona. The slouchy posture. The pitch and stammer in his speaking voice. He made it convincing enough to where, despite only wearing glasses, you couldn't think Clark was Superman.
i hope the new gunn film plays into superman's dual identities even more by showing Clark not only act and speak different but also utilize modern cinematography/lighting/camera angles, special make up techniques or maybe retinal lenses to hide the piercing blue tint to his eyes. make them appear as 2 separate characters as much as possible
I think the problem there is that the comics abandoned that idea nearly 40 years ago. Ever since 1986, Clark Kent and Superman have been fairly similar, Superman is just an extension of Clark. Clark Kent is who he is. Superman is what he does. So unless they really lean into making the next Superman film a Silver Age throwback, they won't ever have that again because the comics don't either.

As much as I love the unique vision of Tim Burton, Richard Donner was the ultimate OG filmmaker who knew how to make a modern day superhero movie.

The movie had a proper introduction, development/progress and ending. Every other Superman movie either had a BS plot or was lacking continuity and fluidity. This movie was written, acted and directed so well! I watched it so many times, no joke! ❤

Christopher Reeve, is my Superman forever. No one can replace him. He's charismatic. He is not arrogant, on the contrary. He is humble and kind. He understands the most important thing: a being with godlike powers like him must not kill, otherwise he would become a tyrant. Also, Christopher Reeve besides being an actor with a huge range of emotions, was gorgeous man :)
I prefer a realistic Superman like Henry Cvill's, such a powerfull being can't be all good and charismatic with the choices he has to make. Only americans have that fantasy of an all happy Superman because they are kids in adult bodies...
@@charlesoneil6647 I'm not american, at least not north american. :) Henry's Superman in my opinion is a step away from becoming a tyrant like in "Injustice" universe. If he is all powerful and can kill anyone, what would stop him? His sense of what's right and wrong? But he already showed that he can bend it when when necessary. (Ok, Batman would stop him, but anyway... lol)
Also, Henry is a very limited actor (i'm not saying he is bad. I love him in the Witcher and he was nice on 007 movie too. But he must be a certain kind o character to work) , always frowning and moody. Also, he may be hot, but Reeve is much more handsome

I think it's an ok movie, I just had a lot of problems with the plot and characters (I really like the effects in the film) Spiderman 2 is kind of my Superhero standard, also I don't even like Man of steel I would watch Christopher Reeves superman any day over that Garbage.
This film was released in 1978, and was such an innovation that even to this day, it's used as a blueprint for how to bring a comic book character to the big screen

Man, the nostalgia hits hard here! And despite the fact that i'm more of a Batman fan, Superman is on the second place in my heart. I loved watching these old movies back in the days as a kid. It was so fun.
Christopher Reeve as Superman remains to be one of the greatest casting choices of all time.
Richard Donner originally had casted someone else to play the part of Superman. Until someone introduced Christopher Reeve to him. Right there and then, he knew that Reeve was the only guy to play Superman. Also, at that time, Reeve was very skinny. He had to eat and workout alot to get muscles, inorder to play the part, which he happily did.
I was 11 yrs. old when Superman 1978 debuted. When I saw the trailer, I couldn't wait to see it. I was not disappointed. IMO, Gene Hackman was the perfect Lex Luthor. Classic.
I was 8 and my mum took me to the cinema in London. It was epic. The music still gives me goose bumps. 😊

Revival of the DC Universe by acknowledging it's past is a master class strategy. I'm elated to see this tribute to the classic from 1978
If that film achieved anything, it was to make it look so real and believable, like the moment in which he lifts the helicopter with one hand from an impossible angle. If DC wants an unforgettable SuperM he must do it like this

What a film! Christopher Reeve was simply fantastic! He gave Superman qualities that carried through decades of comics and are still seen in live action today. Tyler Hoechlin is clearly influenced by that Superman and Chris himself gave Tom Welling his blessing by appearing twice on Smallville in Seasons 2 and 3. Margot Kidder appeared twice and Season 4 and Marc McClure made an appearance as well. Through Siegel, Schuster and Chris Reeve…Superman will live forever!

Common misconception here. Christopher Reeve actually never played Superman. He was Superman.
It's great to know that we can be able to see from trailers and such what's worth watching, like this, and what's not.
This just shows how much we need things to be epic and gigantic nowadays verses just sometimes fun and wholesome. It’s well edited and everything, not saying it isn’t, just pointing out how much needs to be there to justify a film being made now verses back then they just wanted you to believe a man could fly 😢
But somehow way less epic without John William's epic soundtrack.

I absolutely love this movie. It's one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. But this trailer just doesn't feel right, like the pacing is weird or something. I think it's the way the music is utilised maybe. Went in wanting to love this new trailer but only ended up just liking it. I'm certainly open to seeing how more modern style trailers for older movies work out though, so hopefully there are more on the way.

True. This last weekend my girlfriend and I watched like six movies in two hours. We kept pressing the fast forward button and we were done after a few minutes.
Knowing how much work is put into cutting, I humbly agree.
That gave me goose bumps. Loved that movie as a kid.
Christopher Reeve was my hero growing up. Man of Steel didn't come out until I was nearly an adult, so this was the only Superman I knew as a kid. He is, and always will be, very close to my heart! I love Cavill too, but Reeve hits the classic, hopeful, small-town personality of Superman out of the park and will ALWAYS be my personal favorite portrayal of The Man of Tomorrow!😊🙌

OMG, you can actually see the vibrant colors of Superman's Suit. It's not saturated and dark and Superman actually smiles, he is saving people not killing them or snapping their necks. This is Superman
@Dr. Knowledge because it introduced really foreign Concepts to the modern audience such as Superman having a son. There was also some scenes that made Superman seem kind of stalker like. Superman Returns Superman was like the bridge between old school Superman and brooding Superman

@@joeg6478 But no one got killed by the hands of Superman. His main moral the most important rule that defines the inspiring hero is he will not take a life. Snapping Zod's neck is cruel and is something that would not happen ever. MoS overall is an ok movie but not a good Superman movie that has way too many flaws once you dissect it.
@@Drake_4 Hate to break it to you, but Superman kills Zod in SM2. And he doesn't do it with agony or remorse like in MoS, he does it with a smile. That's infinitely worse. And Superman killing Zod is something that happened in the comics too. MoS is just a reflection of that Post-Crisis Byrne era of Superman. And yes, that was a divisive era. But it's not an invalid one, and just saying MoS is a "bad Superman movie" doesn't hold water. I don't like MoS, but it's nothing short of arrogant to say my interpretation of Superman is the only valid one. If Byrne's take was valid in the late 80s and 90s, where Superman killed Zod, MoS has to be valid too. End of story.

I will always like the truly inspiring friend of Richard Donner's Superman and I will always hate the dark killing machine that is Zack Snyders Superman. Also, it's not just Man of Steel that's bad it's his entire run, but again we will always disagree on that too. So good talk.
Christopher Reeve was and still is a one of a kind Superman. I hate to say it, but there will never be another actor quite like him. Then again, every Superman actor brings their own unique version to the table.

Na minha humilde opinião, o melhor filme de super heroi já feito, você pode assisti-lo várias e várias vezes e não se cansa, pois as decisões impossíveis que o Superman tem que tomar, entre salvar as pessoas que estão na sua frente ou salvar a mulher amada e depois ele fazer o impossível, para salvar Lois Lane, é um deleite para os olhos.
