    The way the long term settling that fought you so hard and the movement you achieved by jacking different parts of the car, it really speaks to the need for the Export Brace. I used to think just building something would be the way to go, but returning the car to the shape it's supposed to be makes more sense.

    Good to know. I might need to add this upgrade to my list. Thanks for sharing.

      Yeah, some folks swore by it, so I decided to do it. Pretty inexpensive part, just a pain.

    Thanks for your post. You downplayed your vid, at first, but it proved very valuable for two reasons for me. First it was on a six cyl car, and it also showed that just because you want to do something yourself, maybe you should not. Good job ultimately though. I have 4 cars which this could be applied to, the main ones are (2) 64 Fords, and a 64 Comet. A 67 Cyclone could also use it. The Ranchero has the 200 six, so I was interested in your application to the Mustang, being a cousin of a Falcon car. The Fairlane and Caliente have 302's in them and could use this too. I may have a shop do it, but I appreciated the "relative ease" of application you did your job and the performance upgrade you found for your Mustang. Thanks again.

    Autorestomod, among a bunch of other things, also loosened the upper fender bolts so the fenders weren't helping keep it misaligned. Did you loosen them? I'm sure that wouldn't be all it takes, but it seems whatever takes pressure off will help a little...

    I saw a convertible that had 2 braces on each side one to the area where the monte Carlo brace attached in front of the engine. Anyone have idea of factory part #

    When I pre-fitted my export brace, I had the 67 Mustang just sitting there with no jacks. The brace fit perfect, all the holes lined up. So I just removed the shock mounts on the the shock towers with out taking the shocks out and jacking up the control arms. Shocks just popped up and I lifted the mount over it and expost brace fit over the shocks. I got lucky. Cleaned and painted the shock mounts, and replaced with all new hardware (nuts & bolts). Got my export brace at NPD, not a Scott Drake but a good repro piece. $49.07. #16A052-1A. Make sure you get (measure) bolt pattern on car to match export brace. There are two differnet bolt pattens on firewall mount area.

    Nice job! Your car is straighter than most. I bet you could have gotten it without the bottle jack if you had the hood off.

      Yeah I think so. Just couldn’t get leverage with it on.

    Good video. I want to try this mod, but I can't even get all the carriage bolts removed from the tower caps. That might be a sign just to leave it alone.

      Yeah, you have to hold them in place with a screwdriver otherwise they like to spin. Put some penetrating oil on them first.

    That brace is made to EXACT factory dimensions. If it does not fit... Your ride is jacked up, not the brace. This is your clue you have other problems. DO NOT MOD THE BRACE!!!

    • @mechtrician1
      @mechtrician1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I realized this and did not modify it. I made a note of this later in the video and got the body geometry correct.

      @@mechtrician1 Never said you did mod it. It is important to know information made clear. If the brace don't fit, your car is bent. That's all I'm saying. Too many people have never been told flat out and screwed up the brace as you spoke about in the start of the vid.
      If you had been told this before you started... Your first thought would have been, My car is bent up. Not let us bust out the drill.
      I did not set out to offend. Only to make the point so as to help. It is not the brace. This helps to diagnose other issues without adding one that does not exist. Sloppy turns, popping, tilted posture so on.

    • @mechtrician1
      @mechtrician1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@tayro7265 Agreed, it's all good. My first instinct was that each car will be slightly different and that I would want to hold whatever it's current geometry was. That's why I reached out to the community and asked first, and I am glad I did.

    So at 6:00 you said you removed the jacks. What the cars sits on in this case? Just springs, no jack or jack stand?

      @mechtrician1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What the car sits on. The Jack and Jack stands.

    update on the brace?

    • @mechtrician1
      @mechtrician1  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It works. That with a 1” sway bar makes a big difference in stability. It’s like driving a more modern car.

      @@mechtrician1 i have a 64 falcon that is really sloppy on the road. it does not even have an under brace

      @@MrBigal123123 definitely brace it. Check all components in the suspension for wear.
      Honestly the what took the most slop out of the cornering was adding that 1” sway bar.
