I always add oatmeal as well as some well minced/ground mushrooms. They really help stretch the meat. If meat prices keep rising like I know they will, we'll be saving meatloaf for a tablecloth and candles special supper. Thanks for showing how you cook yours in the crock pot for busy days Bev.

I worked in an Italian run Deli. I learned from a co worker..if you add apple sauce to your meatloaf, it will be TENDER. Apples break down the large beef enzyme...that is the one that can give you heartburn. She was taught that by her sons doctor...who had problem digesting meat. I add dried fruit to all roast. Your guest will wonder why its so good!

Never in my life have I gotten heartburn from any beef or red meat! Never heard of such a thing! I've heard of adding fruit to meat but only for flavor....mostly apples with pork.

I found an old timey recipe in an 80 year old Cookbook, take a chuck roast and dump a can of whole cranberries over it and cook on low heat...oh..my. My deli boss, her son had a hard time digesting beef, the tip for cooking it with apples come from the top gastro doc at Crouse Iriving Memorial hospital in Syracuse. I have added fruit, dried, fresh, applesauce to all roast and most meat since I worked there, 30 years ago.

I always bake mine-- almost always with taters, carrots, onion, and celery around it. Little water. Love the veggies being baked in the broth it makes. :-)
Once a year, at most, I bake alone and make meatloaf gravy and serve over mash, maybe biscuits, too. Veggies on the side. So good! :-)
      Just pass the ketchup, please.

To our very Dear Mrs. Volfie. Thank you so much for sharing the prices of food that you buy. I'm grateful for it. It's nice to compare what we have here at our prices to others prices.
We used to live in Guam. And the price of Ground Meat was so high, it was actually cheaper to buy a roast and grind it up ourselves. We did that for years, when ever roasts went on sale. It didn't matter what kind of meat it was. It was cheaper that way.
Thank you for all that you do for us. God Bless

Bev your freezer meals are awesome and easy to do. The portions are perfect. You couldn't go to any resturaunt and order a meatloaf for 3.00. Even at $5.51 you couldn't find that anywhere in a restaurant. Saving money and making delicious meals on budget is one way to ride out a finacial setback. If people are not saving on groceries they should be. People here in USA losing jobs as well. We will also see inflation soon. Tightening up the belt again.

We eat at home. Only when we are doing our once a month grocery shopping then we eat out because it’s 2 hrs from our house. We go to Aldi. It’s saves money and gets us out of the house,
Sometimes we only go every 2 months and get stuff when we run out of like bread and milk in our town at ventures. Our town has maybe 1,400 people Maybe.
We’re enjoying our new house we bought. It was built in 1965 but, the person who built it sure put great thought into this house.it’s was very well cared for . It’s 2 bed 2 bath and 1480 square feet. So We’re staying home enjoying it. Plus yard is much bigger and that means a bigger garden. Bruce loves gardening .

Eons ago, we were able to get 8lb rounds of ground, dark turkey meat labeled 85/ 15 but often leaner, at a regional grocery store chain for $.88/lb. The store was a kiss off our beaten path so we often didn't go but 2 to 4 times per month and I often came home with 2-4 rounds of ground turkey (16-32 lb). One of the tunings I would make was meat-veggetable loaf with upto 25% veggies in the form of tomato sauce, shredded carrot, minced onion and garlic, broccoli meal created in the food processor with fresh broccoli, etc...; and spices of course. I used long cooking oatmeal and 1 egg per loaf as the binder. While baking liquid would form around and atop the loaves which I would pour off into a bowl for other uses; we were doing rice at the time and after being defatted if at all needed, ild make a pilaf with it. 9nce cooled, these loaves eoild go into bread bags and then the refrigerator freezer for upto 4-6 months. If eaten sooner, I woild slice then seperste the slices with a coiple of pieces of waxed paper before plopping into a bread bag. - Frozen meat loaf can be used in so many ways and making/ baking in bulk is quite the time saver; especially in kitchen clean up which is the least favorable kitchen task for me.

hi Bev this is Sue, we buy the big tubes at Costco's or ground like what you have in this video. I do this all the time. l will do a 10 tube and will get 13-14 meatloafs from that. I divide it up into either 3/4 - 1 lbs bags and flatten them in zip lock bags and freeze it, and then thaw it out and put it into the pan to cook. I don't cook till that day. Such an ease to do it this way. All our meat is divided up into mostly 3/4lbs for the 3 of us. ( my mother doesn't eat that much nor do l (l have a lap band) ) And with that, we sometimes have left overs

Hi! Try cooked lentils. I am gluten intolerant and I use mild flavored lentils as filler/binder in meats. Even used it in Shepherds Pie with the ground beef and a bit extra beef broth! Works great! Also...gluten free oatmeal is a great binder/stretcher in ground beef meals. Giving it a spin in the food processor makes it less "oatmealy" and more like a crumb! God bless!

We cook the family size pkgs, found on sale, and freeze it in portions. And fcooked meat is smaller.
Boston butt makes great pulled pork, sauce added later [bbq, lime/cilantro/garlic]; or chunks with juices.
    Chicken breast, different seasonings.
Hamburger--shepherds pie, taco casserole, chili, spaghetti, lasagna, more. Just cook with salt, pepper, garlic, onion.

I always enjoy your videos because you keep them short and do great editing and you're a wonderful narrator! Your meatloaf is tremendously different from mine in Florida I use ground beef and put in pieces of tricolor pepper tons of garlic roasted prior of course, garlic powder organic pepper and Himalayan salt, Panko bread crumbs and an egg plus the secret Southern ingredient of barbecue sauce!!!. I have never cooked multiple loaf pans at once but I do save leftovers in the freezer and take them out for a quick meal at lunch time. And I'm allergic to onions, so I never ever use them in anything. I'm a garlic girl Part of the World Economic Forum Great reset for humans is to take away animal meats. First they will price us out of them with.scarcity and inflation, then continue to create fake diseases allegedly necessitating culling them. But don't worry, they're going to substitute cockroach milk and crickets for protein

Amen and amen. And doom to all who require a high protein diet unless you can eat 3 cups of beans at every meal

Your meatloafs look so yummy. I love meatloaf and just pulled some out of the freezer for tomorrow/today. Thinking either homemade thick noodles or mashed potatoes with gravy. Guess I'll figure it out later lol 💜💜💜

Just wondering if you've ever made tomato gravy to put on top of a meatloaf. I haven't but I do also put ketchup in the mix and then rub it all over the meatloaf as a glaze. Thanks your the ideas. 🙏❤️🙏

Meatloaf is such an individualized recipe, isn’t it? I can only eat my Mom’s and mine. The thought of eating anyone else’s is a big “No thanks” for me, but my Mom loves ordering ( when we were able to get out to restaurants) meatloaf and trying other’s recipes. I love watching your freezer recipes but never make freezer meals unless it is too much leftovers like veg soup or chili. Why is it so much fun watching other folks cook? Stay warm & healthy!

I love the freezer meals because when I am really busy ( Canning, Quilting,Filiming, editing they arefast meals with good nutrition!

@@OurHalfAcreHomestead I get it! I use home canned meat & veg or make salmon patties or spaghetti on those long working days. We have two freezers packed full of ingredients - meat, flour, butter, vegetables, fruit, etc, so no room to store meals. My favorite fast meal is home canned vegetable beef soup! It feels good to have economically frugal food that tastes great, no matter how you accomplish it. Thank you for sharing your methods. We can always learn new tricks! (I often use onion soup mix, too)

I made mini meatloafs last week and stuck em in the freezer. Next week I'm going to make enchiladas in portions, bake them and stick them in the freezer. Going to do the same with lasagna. I'm tired of cooking every day. So I'm going to do what I did for mother when she was above ground. I made enough freezer meals for her and my sister for six months. It took me only two days of cooking. I think that's the way to go since I'm getting older than Methuselah!!!

Hi. I think she uses the msg free soup base she can purchase at Bulk Barn here in Canada. I've also seen her use Knorr package onion soup mix I think. Not sure if it's msg free. She usually avoids msg products.

The mince meat in my country town is around $17.00 / kilo now. Not seeing hard times in Australia ? Think again.

    • @anetzband1383
      @anetzband1383 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Because I'm curious I did some calculations. If that is Aus$17/kilo, and a kilo is 2.2 pounds, then that would be roughly US$6/ pound. At this time we can buy 100% grass fed mince meat at Aldi for just under that price. BTW, "mince meat" in Australia is ground meat, not the concoction we call mince meat in the US. Thank you for sharing, Sundancer.
