S06E06 Bass Lake Provincial Park Review

- We went to Bass Lake Provincial Park from June 1st to the 4th, 2024. This was our first time camping at this park which is a sister park to Mara and McRae Point. Of the three parks, we liked this one the most. A nice sized lake offers excellent paddling and motor boating and provides a nice sandy beach.

Cell Phone Service: Bell, Telus, Koodo & Virgin Mobile - cell service was poor. Lots of buffering and sometimes no connection. Very unreliable. If you've been to this park please let us know your experience with cell service, especially if your with a service provider different from the ones mentioned.
LOVE the wheelchair accessibility here, i wish my grandpa was still here to see it with me
Thanks for sharing 🏕
Jax you got your new toy !!! 🧸 So glad you are enjoying it ! Pleasure meeting you all at McRae !!

Keep the videos coming !!!
He loves that you you gave him. It's his new favorite you. Thanks so much. Happy camping!
Thanks Coles for another great vid. Loved the detail and back-up cam on your side-view mirror.
Glad you liked it!
BTW. I’m in Perth on. Love it here. The Ottawa valley iss thee best place to live.
Looks like an amazing little park. You guys sold me on all the relaxing kayaking and paddle boarding. Also Coldwater looks like an adorable little village
Bass Lake park is great for early season camping. Nice sites and the lake is shallow so it warms up much sooner than other lakes in the area. We only live a few km's away so rarely go there but we just spent a few days of camping and swimming at the nice sandy beach with our grand kids and had a great time. As you pointed out in the video, the park itself doesn't have a ton to offer for hiking trails but there is lots of hiking locally (Ganaraska Trail)
Camping here I think is more about checking out what the area has to offer and using the park more as a base of operation. Sainte Marie among the Hurons and Wye marsh wildlife Sanctuary as well as the Martyrs shrine is nearby in Midland, Big Chute marine railway up on the Severn River is a unique lock on the Trent Canal system, and of course quaint villages like Coldwater and the Coldwater Canadiana museum are all short drives from the park and worthy of a visit. If you enjoy scoping out local breweries there are two nearby. Couchiching Brewery in downtown Orillia, and Quayles brewery out in farm country on concession 12. Both offer great food and beer.
As you kind of eluded in your review, the trailer fill and dump station is a little less than perfect. There is no bypass to get around someone filling their water tank if you only need to dump, and if you only need to fill your fresh water there is no bypass to get around if someone is using the dump station. On busy Sundays I'm pretty sure that the line ups here would be long.
Keep up the great reviews.
Wow! Thanks for all the info. I'm sure that will help others reading the comments when planning their trip.
Another great production, thanks and happy camping
Bass Lake is my favourite provincial park! I have been going there every summer ever since I was a kid with my family and grandparents!
I can see why. Happy camping!
Glad I found your site. You 2 are a lot like myself. I love your Spence of humour
Camped there with my folks 50+ years ago.
Cheers
I hope this brought back some fond memories for you.
Thanks again for the review. I have never been to this park but of the three sisters it seems to be the best.
Yep, it seems to us to be the best of the three.
thank you
Wish I knew u were there at bass Lake this time I was at bass Lake fishing in a boat I live in the 36 hiway
How is the fishing there any good catch ?
We have been to Bass Lake and didn't have the greatest experience, but your video made it seem like one we should try again. (and not on the long Labour Day weekend!)
We were there over a weekend in June. It was pretty quiet. Very nice.
Don’t think I’ve ever been this early, awesome review as always guys ! Currently watching from Grundy !
Thanks for the dedication, watching it while camping. We're at Ferris right now and can barely get a signal. No watching for us.
@@CampingwiththeColesI know the park superintendent for Ferris and presquil happy camping going to fushimi lake provincial park right now truly recommend
Great Video as always
The Strongback Director and Director Rocker chairs are $139.00 on sale for a limited time.
Ha ha ha really overpriced sky high! Congratulation on huge profit!🎉
I absolutely love watching your videos. They make me smile.
@@alisonlee6800 thanks Alison. Nice to hear from you again.
I was at the Steampunk Festival in Coldwater in 2016. It was really cool
@@1indusboy I wish we would have had the chance to see it when it was still happening.
Thanks for visiting Coldwater!
You bet!
17:55 That is life !!! Enjoy !!!
Great review, definitely worth a visit someday to this park. Strongback chairs they are the best chairs ,our first ones cost 1/3 of the price now which is crazy but probably still a good value considering the other chairs on the market don’t last.
It is a great park
Our first ones were got the Elite chairs at Marks on sale for $70 and the Guru at Walmart for $40. Now they're $200 but at least they're not what they were a couple years ago when you had to order from the USA.
We love your videos . Could you show how far the campsites are from the bathroom. We are tent campers and it is important to us. Thank you
Hi, thanks for watching. I think the only way we can show that is by showing the map (which we do). Each campsite is a different distance from the bathroom so it's pretty difficult to show other than with the map. Do you have another suggestion as to how to do it that we're not thinking of?
Sat in a Strongback in a private park's camp store last week... Just ordered a chair! Blue was sold out. Hope the affiliate link worked.
Thanks for using the link. We were notified of your comment at the same time we were notified of a commission from StrongBack. Using our links helps us to continue making videos.
It is also a sister to a Day use park Called Spring Water Park, which is great for hiking.
Coldwater has a small restaurant called Tiffany's which look rather rustic, but is a great place for breakfast.
Thanks for the info and tips
With regards to Cell services, maybe ask viewers with roger or other service providers to comment below with their signal strength.
Great idea! We'll try to remember to do that from now on. It's suggestions like this that help the channel evolve and get better. Thanks.
Great timing on the Strong back chair review, we are just looking to replace our chairs. The website recommends a different chair for people under 5’7” but it looks like you both have the Elite. How tall is Cheryl? She looks pretty comfortable in the Elite. Thanks love your videos
Cheryl is only 4'11" but she prefers the Elite over the Guru. I'm not sure why they have those height suggestions on there. Her feet touch the ground with the Elite.
Thanks very much for the quick reply
Ben, where did you get that Ontario parks crest beach towel ?
We got it at one of the park stores. I can't remember which one. You can also order them online from the Ontario Parks website. I was trying to find the exact link for you but my connection is really bad here at Ferris PP. Sorry
Ben what kind of e-assist foldable bike do you have?
I have a Dahon K-One. I did a review of it th-cam.com/video/Zx6cYeZR4DU/w-d-xo.html. It's great for roads but not so much for trails. I'm hoping to get a different kind with fatter tires and maybe some suspension. It sure is great for the hills though.
❤l really like your videos but you have stop showing all these campsites just pick the best to show and tell us overview of the rest, that is more then enough!
I appreciate all your hard work in making these videos and looking forward to change for the better!❤
By the way did you do Bon Echo yet? Very interested and what about day use and campsite prices please?❤
We've gone back and forth over showing campsites. I know it's a boring part of the video. That's one of the reason we put in chapters. If you don't want to see them just skip to the next chapter. I wanted to show fewer campsites to keep the video moving but many people have told us that they like to see lots of sites because they are often better and much more up to date than what the parks website shows. We have tailored our videos a lot over the years based on peoples suggestions. We want to have the best videos out there for our viewers. You're the first to suggest fewer campsite shots.
Here's a link to our Bon Echo video th-cam.com/video/bTy7-yTXYCk/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for your suggestions. We take them all into consideration. Happy camping!
This is not sanctuary but prison cell with nothing in it so sad!
Worst provincial park I’ve ever been to.
There's gotta be a story behind that...
I was watching a video on another channel "The Average Tourist" and their latest video is they camped at a winery using a membership with something called "Harvests Hosts". I had never heard of it, but it allows RV campers to camp at a network of wineries, farms, breweries, etc. They have a website and app. Have you heard of this before? It seems something you guys may be into since you like going to wineries.
Harvest Host had been around a long time. It's USA based but also has lots of places in Canada. It's ideal if you travel a lot and need one night stays. We rarely do that, preferring to stay at each place for several nights. It's great if you're doing a long US road trip. There's a Canadian company doing a similar thing called Torego. It's a little cheaper and I think the app more user friendly but then again it's a lot smaller.
