Whenever I buy a new game, I watch these first THEN read the rules. This is maybe the 4th or 5th video of yours that's helped me teach others more efficiently. I really appreciate your work. Thanks again!
Sometimes you are sooo scatterbrained, but I really like that you skip the rules of the game and immediately introduce the flow and gameplay. I heavily rely on your videos when I choose a board game, so thanks for the video! Cheers
Super, youtube won't let me reply to your comment Adam, but yes, you're correct, I should have pulled them from a stack, though in this video it didn't make a difference. it can in some cases though...
Thanks for saving me a ton of time Rahdo! I have been using your youtube page frequently to get a jump start on many of the same games we play in our game group.
One minor note: you really should keep the hexes in a stack next to the board because the Explorer can manipulate what comes next (draw 3, pick 1 for the top of the stack, shuffle the other two back in).
Hi, You made mistake in Island tiles setup. According to rules - "11. Shuffle the remaining Island tiles and place them in a face down stack near the main board." You should not place them all on the board. That is a huge mistake, because some of abilities allow to look at some of tiles at the top of stack. Greetings from Poland! Me and my fiancee love your videos :)
Very helpful tutorial. We just got this yesterday and only got as far as laying it all out before we realised we were too tired to figure it all out. This was really useful though and I'm a lot more confident about getting a game going tonight. Thanks for the tips :)
Great video, very interesting review. I guess your reviews of games are particularly smart, you first play for a long time so everyone can understand and get a precise idea of the game, and then you give your final thoughts. Far better than dice tower reviews and Co. Please continue.
I just saw the movie "The Martian", good movie by the way, and while watching it I thought this would make a great scenario using the systems in this game. You're stranded on Mars, you need to make repairs/upgrades to your habitat, grow food, survive the weather, and get to the rendezvous site in time to meet the rescue ship. Just need to invent some Martian beasts...
I didn't much from this video. But after watching it I am impressed at the clearness of your walkthrough. Keep up the videos! I will subscribe when I encounter a video that convinces me purchase a game, this one is very tempting. Good job.
thank you for this video, opening up the box and looking at all the pieces + manual, it was intimidating. but after watching this, I finally got a good understanding and played my first game.
Thanks Rahdo - good video, it really helped me in understanding the game. Have to say though - this game is not for the faint of heart or anyone who likes to "win". This video focused on the easiest part of the scenario. By the time you reach month 7 you will probably be asking yourself "if you are actually playing the game right" because of how badly you will be doing. There is very little in the way of forgiveness. Relentless is an understatement. This "game" is highly thematic and you should go in with the mindset of the "journey not the destination". If you don't you will be very disappointed with this "game". Assume you will not win and just enjoy the ride.
At 16:00 when you got the Old Rifle treasure it doesn't go to the available items immediately but goes to the future items instead and will be available at the end of the action phase.
"Trzewiczek" you can spell as "tshevitshek" or "tshevichek". Very, very good tutorial. You got good voice, you speak not so fast, and use easy words, I understand almost all of that.
Thanks for this great walkthrough/review Rahdo! This really helped me see how the game feels when played, and it actually made me so enthusiastic about it I only have to convince me gaming group to buy it :)
This game pulls no punches! I'm glad I persevered through that manual because the effort is worth it, what a crushing yet fun game. We are only halfway through the scenarios, looking forward to getting at least one win in each one. ;)
Bravo for the play through. Though it maybe be difficult to play, but its just difficult to win! Im gonna get this game because of your video. Thank you.
Great video! I was actually getting invested in the characters and would like to see you play to the end death/rescue. What a lot of fun this game is. I will check your other videos in hopes you made one for each scenario in this game. Maybe you and the wife will play all the way through sometime and let us watch :-)
I wonder, I saw some mistakes but maybe it's only for the 2and edition. Like for example when you had to decrease weapon level after the bear its -1 damage and when you had to discard determination after the hit event it's also 1 damage?
I am late to the game because I just got this game, but I don't see a time stamp correction for this so I may be wrong, but shouldn't the green question mark stay at 34:47 because it didn't get used? page 9 of rule book, "IMPORTANT ! Tokens located on the Action Fields are discarded after resolving their effect, while tokens located on other parts of the board usually stay there for the rest of the game." So this never got resolved because no one explored so doesn't it stay until someone does?
It plays very well as a one player game, you versus the island. Much like Arkham Horror there are pieces and card piles everywhere so it takes some getting started with, but very much an 'adventure story' as you play through the game.
13:15 Just noticed that "if players have not built a shelter yet, they can move their camp without any consequences. If they move it to an island tile with a shelter, it does not mean that they have built a shelter: i.e. do not turn the camp token shelter side up" pg 13 of rule-book.
Correct. He was in error when he flipped the token over. The difference is when you move camp again. If you haven't built a shelter, i.e. you are using the natural shelter on the explored hex, then any improvments (roof, etc.) are lost completely rather than divided by 2. The FAQ on BGG explains this pretty well.
2 quick questions. I really want to play this with my friends but find the rule book to be poorly laid out. In round 3 when the otters attacked you covered the bird icon and not fish. Is that legal because food is food or does it have to be fish? You also tried to build the shovel after flipping the beach tile over. My question becomes are all things available to build once the black marker is placed on them or should the marker be taken off the shovel when the beach tile disappeared? Off to bgg to print that turn guide out. Thanks!
***** ok, I've realized youtube annotations are not displayed on mobile devices. It would be nice if the guy that is going to help you thanks to the kickstart could embed annotations in the video, in the future probably 99% of your viewers will be mobile
sorry, i haven't looked at the game in over 2 years, so I don't remember. here's a link to the rules you can download and maybe they'll help you out? zmangames.com/rulebooks/Robinson.pdf
not sure which link, but it will be one of these in the files section of the game: www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/121921/robinson-crusoe-adventures-cursed-island/files :)
TyphoidBryan Robinson Crusoe is as unforgiving than DoW at its hardest, even though there's no traitor in Crusoe. Both are heavily-themed with mitigated dice-rolling, but the scenarios make more sense and are much more like scenarios in Robinson Crusoe, whereas in DoW the scenarios and secret objectives and daily objectives are basically arbitrary. If you want a traitor, get DoW. If you love zombies, get DoW. If you want a co-op, get Robinson Crusoe. If you want the better or better-themed game, get Robinson Crusoe. It's like comparing a Rogue-like with, say, Castlevania. One has more random variety and shallower, and the other is much better balanced and has greater depth.

Depends on what you consider formulaic... do you consider Axis & Allies to be formulaic? It has not been released in North America. I know I have been waiting for months.

How does the carpenter's snare work? Does it move with your characters when you change camp, or do you have to build a new one?
Also, can you get the bonus wood not on a space that provides wood? (the hatchet for example)
