I’d love to see a retro motel
Yeah like the Bates motel
From psycho!!
Or the Rosebudd Motel from Schitt's Creek 😁 I love how that place always looks on the verge of falling apart - would be fun to try and get that look in the sims!
Yesss that would be so so great, with a little diner close to it
Can you read my mind ? 🤨 Just as I finished the video and james zoomed out to the neighborhood I thought that a motel would also be nice there.
That's what this is... No?
This is such a great use for this lot. Not falling into the trap of pre-ordering For Rent but extremely excited to see you play with it to get a feel for how it performs. You've built some pretty great apartments recently!
I’m waiting to see how buggy it is before buying too
Yep, wait for bug fixes. The creator network is pretty their unofficial game testers.
@@seriliaykilelExactly! I want it but I'm also waiting for a few of the non game changers to review with all the packs.
Del Sol Valley really should have had apartments like this. Ooh and a nice Melrose Place / Spanish Revival complex. Yesss
Yes! I'm excited for this expansion pack but Del Sol Valley would've been the perfect spot to drop it!
James building Melrose Place 2009 version ( not sure if there is a difference between the classic Melrose Place and the 2009 one), but it would be INCREDIBLE !!!!
oh my god yesss....and growing together with the southeast asian culture inspired world since i think in sea people value family relationships a lot and we have huge families living in one building
Leimert Park (Los Angeles neighborhood) has some great Spanish Revival condos from the 1920s, cute shapes, and soo stylish with gorgeous tile and little iron railings on stuff.
I kinda wanna see the original Bigwallet Art Gallery remade into apartments
OMG yes! Perfect way to bring that building back into the series
that would be awesome!
I believe that already happend, I mean the plan itself but i think James will use it eventually
I think that is a video for members only. I could definitely be wrong, but I think I saw it in my recommendations.
Unfortunately, I am currently a broke collage student and I will have to wait another year before I can afford to be a member. 😊
I came up with a plan, but it’s not saved or anything. Nothing changed in that members video just a discussion on how best to renovate it!
The real renovation will be a regular video
Me: do I build apartments for my game when the new pack is out, or do I watch some videos?
James: *uploads*
Me: easy choice made
I normally watch while I build.
@@CrownedLily I'm always using my laptop, so don't really have the option, otherwise I'm sure I'd do the same!
Definitely think a duplex or even triplex would be great on the lot next to this build. More builds would make this small neighborhood feel more lively. :)
I already have 3 houses on the lot next door in my let’s play save, we’ll be turning them in to rentals too!
I agree! I never play people in Del sol until they’re super rich because those huge starter lots are just weird. And it winds up feeling like a really empty neighborhood.
@@JamesTurnerYT Yes I remember Hazel’s rentals, I can wait for them to be functional!
As an LA native, thank you James! These are exact apts we have riddled in spots exactly like this lot in residential neighborhoods, and you're right it fits so much better as a whole picture. Ahhhh I can't wait to play~
Edit: I just realized I knew that apt (before it got tore down lol) small world lol~
I grew up (80s-90s) in a similar looking apartment in CA. 1 bathroom, 2 bedroom. Terracotta orange carpet, avocado green linoleum and dark brown cabinets. Yes, they had been updated. In the 50s.....
12:44 beige is a sad but realistic color scheme for the kitchens in an apartment complex, at least in all the apartments I've been in; either that or wood color 😂
I grew up (80s-90s) in a similar looking apartment in CA. 1 bathroom, 2 bedroom. Terracotta orange carpet, avocado green linoleum and dark brown cabinets. No wall tile at all, just white paint. Yes, they had been updated. In the 50s..... They didn't upgrade for aesthetics.
@@rosameryrojas-delcerro1059 Now that I am working with housing I get it. Apartments are meant to be blank slates customized by the occupant which is why stark white or that beige color is common. It's also easier to restore walls back to white or beige when people move out and get back to the base unoccupied generic look. Also, if someone punches a hole in the drywall it's way easier to color match that repair back to beige or white.
I know the numerous reasons why. But many landlords still won't allow tenants to paint. I have never rented a place where I was allowed to.@@TheDawnofVanlife
My whole freaking apartment is beige. I can't wait to move into my first home next month and paint my walls something other than beige!
@@CrownedLily My apartment walls aren't beige, they're actually an off-white color but I would LOVE if I was allowed to paint them some pretty neon or pastel colors
Love it! This apartment style is called a “Dingbat” and is especially common all throughout Los Angeles. They were built during the building boom of the 1950’s and 60’s. There are so many whimsical designs around that are just amazing. I live in one myself. Can’t wait for the pack to come out, I’ll be going dingbat crazy!
These apartments style you built has an interesting history! They were built as cheap temporary housing but ended up sticking around for a lot longer than Intended.
But now they're not up to code due to not being earth quake safe and lacking windows In certain rooms.
Lovely build!
James you are killing it lately with those builds! Can't wait for the pack and the new videos!! ❤
Please don't get me wrong, I always loved your builds...but lately your builds have been off another level! You seem really inspired by this new release and I can't wait to see what your going to build when it's really coming out! ❤
As an American who has lived in several apartments, I gotta say you got a lot of things right. The different times of updating kitchens, the super unequal sizing of bedrooms, the popcorn ceilings. The only thing I personally think is "incorrect" is the overhead lighting in the living space. Dining and kitchen, yes, but in the living room, you're almost always expected to provide your own lighting. Usually one of the light switches is connected to certain outlets. Here we just have the Auto Light setting
My house was built in the 40s I think and we didn’t have ceiling lights in the living room until we installed some last year.
This lot is PERFECT for an apartament building. I have never used it, because it's too big for this kind of neighbourhood imo, and now I can!
I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one referencing IKEA as I build in The sims 4, I come home from IKEA with notes for my Sims’s builds.
somehow that's a great idea ! 🤣Maybe I go with my sis to ikea the next time he asks.
Still waiting for the IKEA crossover stuff pack… not gonna lie
@@gemmacorinne9487 I mean, they had it for the Sims 2, so they're probably not going to do it again, but it SLAPPED back then.
I've actually been to Hollywood and this build feels so much like a lot of the older art deco style buildings!
I am living for these apartment builds
This style of mid century apartment building with the overhang over the parking are called Dingbats, popular as an affordable housing solution across the Sun Belt states in the US. Often they were built in low density residential neighbourhoods, replacing single family homes, and often given ridiculous grandiose names written in cursive on the side of the building.
This really reminds me of Roaring Heights (?) from TS3! Loved the Art Deco style of that world 🙌🏼💚
I really want to try and recreate some of those lots in TS4 now!
I grew up an hour from LA and this looks like all of my friends’ apartments when I grew up. I will definitely be using this!
The plastic chairs coming in the new pack will be 😙👌 chef's kiss on these patios
A stunner of a build - so realistic!
from someone who lives in the Bay Area, James absolutely nailed it! These exact apartment buildings are literally EVERYWHERE here. If I had to think of apartment buildings, this style would be the one.
I definitely prefer these type of real time building videos over the all Timelapse ones.
I think it would be fun for one of the builds for the let’s play if you started with a bunch of unfurnished apartments, just kitchens and bathrooms like you normally get with most unfurnished places and then when tenets move in you add the furniture to the place to match who’s moving in.
Not me going through comments to see if someone mentioned the missing kitchen sink in the 3rd apartment 😂 but seriously amazing build. Can't wait to download it!!! ❤
Where I live in LA, there's about 50 apartment buildings that look like this around me. My brother in law used to live in an apartment building that had a very similar courtyard, pool and all. You really hit the nail on the head with this build. Can't wait to play with this when For Rent comes out!
As someone who lives in LA I have to say this build is perfect! It's oddly comforting seeing familiar builds in the sims lol
wow this matches the surrounding area so well!! I love the older style and grungy used areas and the idea of keeping/re-using them instead of demolishing. love this!
Native Californian here who lived in one of those 40s style apartment buildings for years: those hedges you placed at 38:15 is very accurate to how the outside of the buildings often look!! You changed it but still, you definitely would've been accurate if you'd kept them.
This is so impressive... Like the amount of skill required to design that building and create all these apartments... I've been impressed the whole time. Congrats on such a cool building!
hey james ive been watching you consistently since the seasons let's play and your channel remains in my top 3 of all time - your videos have such a calming energy about them and i love your wit/humor in both let's plays and build videos like this. you also still continue to have wacky one-off videos here and there that entertainm e more than you could imagine. just wanted to say thanks for all the years of endless high-quality content that really shows how much you enjoy doing what you do :)
Wow, that’s a lot to furnish! I know it would make a longer video but I’d still be interested in seeing more of the furnishing and what makes you pick the items you use
I LOVE these types of apartments. Del sol valley should have had bigger lots in the rich neighbourhood and apartments like those in the poor one.
I started a new job two weeks ago, and I haven’t made any friends yet. I’ve been binge watching James’ videos so I can feel less lonely. Love the Sims and the community.
Seriously, this is one of the coolest buildings you have ever done! It just fits the world so well, and is the old time red thread through it all is so cool!
I love this lot in del sol valley. it's totally underutilized. the new pack is exciting!
So good! Having spent my whole life in Los Angeles this is so reminiscent of my child and young-adulthood here ❤
That first kitchen is perfect. Every first apartment.
Never been early enough for it to say x seconds
Same. I blame TH-cam notification lag.
I'm usually not even this early where I started a video within an hour of James or Deli uploading it because of the difference in time zones between Australia and the US 😂🫶
This is such a great build! I just did an apartment complex for this lot but never thought about making it so ...plain? (I can't find a better way to describe the floor plan and common areas of that type of modern affordable/cheap apartments) and realistic, I love it so much. This is so true to real life and accurate. I'm so inspired by your creativity!
I love how this building turned out
Awesome build. Love the fact the whole complex is believable in both context and in detail.
loving all the apartments builds lately!!!! i'm so ready for the new expansion!
I lived in LA for ten years, when you began to describe an old LA apartment, this was exactly what I thought of. Courtyard, pool, under unit carports leading to the most used entrance door. You did a fantastic job capturing this. Car culture capital!
Absolutely love this build. I love it when you do “vintage” LA style homes, and especially these apartments. Did you know that style of apartment where the Carport is under it and the facade is decorative is called a “dingbat” lol. Very fun!
The newest packs, really are giving james so much joy for the sims. Gives me feels from the seasons lp, and how much fun he had with that one.
This is the perfect build for this lot. Love the style for Del Sol!
Been loving the apartment videos!
I am unexpectedly very psyched about this and now want to redo all of De Sol Valley like old Las Vegas early/mid-century design. Thank you for that. I think I know what I'll be up to over holiday! I appreciate the spark of inspiration. This came out so well and celebrates the original architecture in a really nice way.
The building was on Sunset and La Cienga! Thank you for reminding me of my hometown 🖤
I love these builds!! I also love how much I can feel James excitement for this pack! 😂
James, your recent builds have been BLOWING MY MIND. Not only are they insanely ambitious, they are also absolutely stunning and just crazy. Thank you for all your amazing hard work, cannot wait to download these builds and play with them once For Rent comes out!!
For popcorn ceilings, I like to use the white bg carpet swatch
Ooh that’s a good idea
Anxiously awaiting the beginning of the Bigwallet real estate empire
This build will be so good for the pack, love it!!!
I love all these builds!! so much potential to it!! I hope James can look into different cultural builds when the pack comes out!!
I’ve lived in apartments just like this one and could drive 20 minutes to see a dozen more just like this lol. This was super fun to watch and compare to what I know they’re like 😂
Love the look of this build!!!
Loving the look of this build.
I love dingbats! Such a cool style.
Loving all the apartment builds lately for the new pack. This one is another level.
I love how your builds have evolved since the new pack announcemnet came out! I see passion
when the new xpac drops these are going to be such good starter apartments. Already got a couple of aspiring actor sims with part time coffee shop jobs as they work through the uni xpac before becoming the next Del Sol Valley "ratpack" scenario planned in my head. Will obviously torture them with my horrible decisions just for character building of course. Great stuff James!
I absolutely love this and it's going in my game ASAP! That lot has always bothered me, especially because there's not many residential lots to begin with in Del Sol and it's too big for the Sim I placed there.
I'm totally downloading this but am going to redo one and make it a really run-down, moldy, cheap, slum lord owned apartment for one of my new "apartment" story lines. I will also make one a really high class refurbished one, and of course leaving one just like it is.
I attempted to make a similar build and couldn't make it look right, so of course, I came to your page to see if you could give me some inspiration, and just like always you didn't disappoint!!!! Bravo! 👏🏻😁
This is a great build, representing central and Southern California 1960s apartment buildings. I think I might bring this into my test save unfurnished and do it up myself based on an apartment building I lived in when I was young. This will be a great addition for those that want to own many apartment buildings. ❤❤
i LOVE James' building videos. thank you! they are so inspiring and fun to watch!
I love seeing James' editing skills improving. I've been dipping in and out of the early Bigwallet series, and the difference shows how much he's improved.
Oh my goodness yessss!! This is exactly what Del Sol Valley needed. I can’t wait to play in this lot! Amazing work 👏🏽🌴
Im definitely gonna play in this build this is such a great use of this space. I love it a lot
I love this build, it reminds me of apartments in Hawaii! I would download it, but I'm using this lot for my rags to riches rental. Maybe I'll use it as inspiration for my final rental!
Such a great use of this lot. I will definitely download it to play in it and renovate through gameplay
this video is so fun. all of the apartments are cool and quirky in their own way. It would be a lot of fun to see a renovation of all the apartments at some point, as if the sims that moved in upgraded the furnishings
I feel like the apartment with the extra office nook space would match Krista really well for some reason. *Edit to add*: Perhaps some of the extra space could be a laundry room with vending machines?
I have a landscaped terrace outside my apartment, it's part of our common space and it's "maintained" by our property manager. It is chock full of weeds. 😅😅 nailed it!
I love building old, cheap houses and buildings. It makes me feel so nostalgic
I love James's little 'aw yeah that looks awful, perfect!' chuckle 😁
13:58 there is certain trims for the half walls, where sims cant put anything onto. They arent as sleek and flat as the ones you are using, but they get rid of the trouble of either you having to place something or the sims using them as a surface. Personally i think they do look pretty plus can give a bit more of a divided look but still make it look open
They have big glass panels on them which I don’t usually want to use
I love it! Definitely I´ll download it and use it on my save. Thanks!! Great work.
I love the idea of apartment buildings for the style of each world.
Awesome!!! It's PERFECT!! Thank you!
Definitely my favorite rental lot so far! Great job, if I get the new expansion, I'm sure I'll end up using this, since it's, well for one, a very nice build, but also, not too cluttered, which is always great for performance, but it's not too empty and doesn't feel too artificial, which is great!!!
I built an apartment building modelled on my own last year in Del Sol Valley, and I'm SO excited to play with it properly instead of weird locking rules for random roommates xD
I really like this build!! This one's so creative and I can't wait to download this lot
I love this! It’s giving very ‘80’s run-down motel, kinda Vice City Ocean View hotel area vibes.
I love every part of this build! Amazing 🤩
This is one of my favourite builds by you, well done!
This reminds me of the sims 1 vacation "hotels" at the beach, love it
james mentioning the plates on the shelves reminded me of an old save where my sim decided to stop mid-white cake making and put the bowl on a shelf in the nursery that no one could get to. it stayed there for ages without me even noticing so everyone was uncomfortable when they went to check the baby. it wouldn’t let me move it either, i ended up having to just delete the whole shelf. i’m mad all over again about it.
This is amazing!! I’ll def be downloading this lot. Thank you!!
Loved this video! Would love to see a build challenge video where you only use default swatch colours!
love this, you went above and beyond for this one, james!
It looks great James! Can't wait to download it and play with it 😁
ive been watching for so long ive seen every video since sims 4 came out, i think i have an addiction
These look like the apartment block I grew up in, with the courtyard in the middle!
I LOVE to see how different they all are! And I love to see the process.
This actually looks so good! Holy crap. I couldn't even complete something like this I think, lol. Love the lighting settings as well. Start using this more recently as well, different trims of light cause I saw it on your videos it does a lot for looks.
You have outdone yourself! Downloading this for my game. ❤
