  • Snow covered road to Bodie Ghost Town (north of Mammoth Mountain) strands several vehicles in deep snow drifts. Driving my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, I’m joined by two Mercedes G-Wagons to winch, pull and push the vehicles out of the snow. After we get them back on their way -- we go for a drive in deeper snow further toward Bodie and encounter our own trouble!

    This was really enjoyable. It was cool to see G wagons actually being used what they’re meant for, especially pulling that bmw lol

    The best snow tyres are…snow tyres. Not the mud one :)
    Thanks for the content.

      I agree. I have another video on the channel where we we’re up in Big Bear in the snow. The Jeeps with mud tires really struggled and our all terrain tires did really well. It reminds me of riding a Yamaha motocross on the street with nobby tires - so little tire on the surface that they spun like crazy. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

      100% - I drove up to the top of Norway and Sweden one February a few years ago in a Merc GL with Winter tyres and never got stuck once. Didn't even need my lockers. The locals use tyres specifically dedicated for snow which were considerably more aggressive-patterned than mine. When their tyres are on asphalt (lower down, in Oslo) they make a sucking noise like those old fashioned rubbery soap mats when you peel them off the sink/basin. Mine are considered "all weather" tyres by people who live up there, although sold as "Winters" in the UK.
      I'd love a G for the rugged looks but even old ones are an expensive purchase and my GL just works everywhere I've taken it so far.

      Thanks for the reply!
      About the GL I guess it is X164?
      Are they reliable? I was wondering to buying one 550 2012. Since the G is very very expensive.

      @NigelMarston 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Staniola Yes, mines a 2012 X164 with the EOP (enhanced off-road package). Very hard to find them over here with EOP which is why I've hung onto it. I really love it, so although it's a bit scruffy now, it's mechanically tip-top and serviced without any financial limit.

    did you air down you tires? your lockers should have been locked. spinning your tires is the last thing you want to do when you want traction.

    Think you could have gotten up that hill will some more speed and then not letting up. Appreciate you don't want to end up in the top ditch or hurt your ride though.

      Yeah you’re probably right. We were just taking it easy and not pushing it too hard. Just out there to have fun and not break anything lol. The layer of ice under there made it more difficult than it looked. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • @nirfz

    On camera everything looks less steep, that said, i would claim that both the Mazda and the BMW would have made it out with normal winter tires.
    People drive step slopes with 2wd cars with winter tires here in the alps for ages.

    • @tcsadventures
      @tcsadventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re right that the camera doesn’t give a good depiction of how steep the terrain is. You may also be right about snow tires and 2wd. That truck was stuck too and if I remember correctly it was a 4wd with all terrain tires. I would say that when we went back further on the road where no one had driven - the snow did not look that deep to have given us as much trouble as it did. If it had been all powder I think we would have been fine, but there was a layer of ice from recent warmer weather. Anyway, it was a fun day and we were more than glad to help out. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Mammoth just got more snow today... it’s ready for more adventurers. There were no fresh tracks about 7 miles out so no one had made it to the ghost town the week we were there. First time I had been wheeling with G-Wagons. Great day!

      I believe I put the year of each G Wagon on the screen. I don’t know what engine was in the G Wagons. I just met those guys that day (haven’t seen them since) and I’m not familiar with G Wagons. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.
