Again, thanks Matt for trawling through our back catalogue. I hope you had the odd chuckle. But mostly you now know never to buy a fu**ing Africa Twin!!! 😁😉👍🏼
Thanks mate. Your right. I have never had heated gloves and I think after a million years of riding I need to get them on my Christmas list. Still Summers approaching so I’ll probably forget by then😂. Thanks for taking the time to comment.👍🏼
Cheers Paul. Mate, I’ve been riding for about 30 years now (and I’m still crap) but that Gopro footage doesn’t sell that situation very well. The weather was bad but the worst thing was my visor. There was about a square centimetre out of it in which I could see, with my head cocked to one side. Lesson learned: Always ensure your Pinlock is in good condition for Winter riding 🤣. Still looking back it was bloody funny. Mate, as always, thank you for taking the time to comment. Keep riding 👍🏼
Well the return home was certainly and exercise in endurance.... but what a series.... fantastic. BTW, loved the 'Shaft' sequence, an homage to those films of the late 60's and early 70's, Thomas Crown, Bullitt, Shaft and many more.
Hi Neil, really glad you liked it. I was scrolling through the music library and found that track and just couldn’t resist it. If there was no copyright I would have put the theme to Bullitt in! Nothing like a bit of nostalgia 😁
You would of been in your element on your bike mate. I loved it, despite the fact I’ve had to have all my fingers and toes amputated due to frost bite.😂
Hey Gents great series thanks for bringing it to us 👍 I heard a quote once that said ‘motorcycle touring /camping is all about dealing with different levels of discomfort’ , I think that is a spot on description for it , and at the end of the day like you said mate ‘if you don’t go you won’t know , stay well and ride safe gents 👍👌👊
Cheers Mate, glad you enjoyed it. It did serve a purpose. It was probably stupid to go that time of year but it was the only time that we could simultaneously get away, so I have no regrets. I wanted to get two bike tours in this year and now I can concentrate on my Eastern European run out later in the year. Jason cannot make it so I’m going solo. Other than the odd weekend I’ve never done a multi week tour on my own so really looking forward to that. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? 😂👍🏼
Hey mate , you will love it , when & Where you planning to go ? , It takes some balls and there will be some trepidation, but once your settled in it will be quality 👍, your an organised guy and that will help , but also as you know you have got to be able to adapt and then your enjoy it even more , Enjoy it and I look forward to seeing the tour on the tube Take care mate 👌👍👊
Cheers mate. I want to "cuff" this tour but generally Poland, Slovakia and spend the majority of my time in Romania. Probably going to use the Trans Euro Trail along the route. I totally agree though, it will take a few days to get into the zone.
Thanks. We really appreciate the feedback. I think it is important to get of our arses and get out there from time to time.I had my doubts about this whole venture. Even on the first day I was thinking of binning it due to the cold but sometimes you’ve just got to bite down and get on with it. In hindsight it was a brilliant little adventure but if I’m honest I would have rather done it in Spring / Summer! Stay safe my friend and keep riding.👍🏼
Very enjoyable watching this while sitting in my nice warm house :) , the road to hell would have made me bite the bullet and book a hotel .. Looking forward to your next trip ..
Cheers Graham. To be honest I was going to turn around and go home on the first day. We had been riding for about 4 hours and had a break. At that point I already had every piece of warm clothing on I had with me! I knew then it would be somewhat “challenging”. 😂
As I was editing this I often asked myself the question was it worth it for a single days ride in that desert? Definitely. But I am gonna get me some heated gear!!! Thanks for the comment Lee. 👍🏼
Hahaha, I must admit, although a brilliant idea, traveling to Spain that time of year was one of the most stupid things we’ve done. Days of pain for what was just 2 days in “nice” weather. That said, I’d do it again😂. Thanks for the comment 👍🏼
Great tour guys. Having just got back from a week in the EU when we had similar weather in Germany (hail, snow, ice and minus 4) I take my hat off to you for camping...it was bad enough riding in it for me for a day but at least I had a hotel at the end 😄. Love bike camping but I am definitely a fair weather camper. Interesting I also had some water in one of my bmw panniers at the end of my day so was glad I had packed my kit inside waterproof inner bags. Looking forward to your next video... maybe it would be interesting to review how the lone rider and msr (I think that's what you had) tents held up and any pros / cons 🤔. Ride safe 👍 🇬🇧
Hi Darren. I know the weather you went through, it’s been crap here in Germany. It just seems Spring is reluctant to appear. To be honest camping was never really the issue, although if I’m honest a hotel is naturally way better. Over the years we’ve pumped a lot of cash into our camping equipment and I’d say it’s all mid to high range kit (for bike camping, not Arctic research). My personal failure was not embracing heated kit. I’m a big fan of basic kit and minimal electric kit that I fear will fail but in this case heated kit would have made the long hours in the saddle much better. As you know once your core temp starts sapping away from you it’s no fun. We do need to start reviewing our kit but we have a rule. Unlike many TH-cam channels we really like to beat the crap out of it before giving an honest opinion. So Jase needs at least a year of use before we do a Lone Rider V MSR Video. Mate, really appreciate your feedback if your at the ABR this year find us and say hello. 👍🏼
Brilliant stuff gents. Superb episode, albeit a bit cold and wet, but like you say, you have ridden roads that have given you memories. Jason’s faffage was on top form again. There could be a regular slot on each video of how to faff and get results. Do you have any plans for a tour with Nightcrawler666 and Wookie? That would be entertaining.Once again, thanks for taking the time to put this together and looking forward to your next expedition.
Hello mate, always enjoy reading your comments. Well we will be seeing Leigh & Wookie at the ABR in June, so that’s probably going to get messy I don’t know if that will spawn any future plans? I wish I could calculate the amount of time I’ve sat waiting for Jason. Some people actually think I’m just putting it in the videos for a bit of comic relief. They couldn’t be more wrong. I actually edit out masses of footage of me sat there waiting and waiting😂. It’s now got to the point it’s expected in every video. Anyway I’m off on a solo tour this summer so that’s going to be really interesting. I’ll probably be able to cover twice the distance!.
There is talk of us trying to get to the ABR this year so will try and say hello, but work and getting ourselves organised may be the stumbling block. Have a good solo tour and enjoy the warmer weather.
brilliant stuff guys 👏looked tiring but yous got through it nothing worse than cold & rain along with ice , a great adventure to kick the yr off take care guys and thanks for sharing, my trip this yr is in august so hopping for pure sunshine ps ive been looking at camp sits on my route and prices great also think its the french way as they cater quite big in the camping community steven
Hi Steven, thanks for the comment. It was our first time doing some long distance in France 🇫🇷 and I was really impressed. Check out that app we showed in the video (pitch up)? It was really useful and you can filter it to fine tune your needs. It works over the entirely of Europe. We also always use iOverlander. You cannot go far wrong with those. Stay safe mate and keep us updated on your adventures.👍🏼

Thanks for watching mate, any other questions please fire away 👍🏼
That was just over a year ago. We both noticed we had a few days off work at the same time in early March so we thought let’s sprint south for the warm weather. It sounded good on paper but camping there and back was a bit optimistic. Basically apart from the 48 hrs in Spain we froze our nuts off. Still it was a good laugh. Thanks for taking the time to comment 🤙🏻
It was good to watch but it really didn’t look like fun and that’s speaking as someone who has camped in three hivernales in France since the end of November. In freezing, wet conditions camping and riding is too much and I would have stopped in cheap hotels for at least one night in two. I will be in the eastern Pyrenees in 10 days time, it’s snowing there today 🤞 for it to have turned to have turned to mild rain by the time I arrive. Well done for seeing it through to the end.
Hi David. Of course you are right. It would have been far more sensible to of least spent a couple of days in a hostel or cheap hotel. We are quite well equipped and to be honest, and looking back, camping wasn’t that difficult. It was the long hours in the saddle exposed to the cold. I will quite happily ride in minus temperatures on my way to work, but that’s a 30 minute journey. Hour after hour is a different story. If I was going to do it again I would invest in heated gear. Still we had a laugh. Thank you for taking the time to comment. It is much appreciated and be safe on your journey. 👍🏼
1:18: “Hello, good day, is that the Campingplatz?” Had to watch that bit multiple times… 😀 15:10 That is the reason why I have some waterproof Ortlieb rollup drybags in my waterproof paniers as a backup. As soon as your down sleeping bag gets wet, the fun is over instantly. Especially in sub zero temperature. Nice Video guys! Next time north Finland in January? If so, get some tips from this guy: th-cam.com/video/gtgUm-3EXmY/w-d-xo.html
Hey Ralf👋🏻. Yeah if you cannot speak Spanish or French why not confuse people and throw in a bit of the German language 😂. Jason is investing in some Givi dry bags to go inside his main panniers. To be fair I’ve been using the same panniers as Jason for many years and although I’ve dropped them they have never let water in. I have got Finnland on my radar, Jason is also keen to go, perhaps in 2025? But I can promise you we won’t be going in January.😂😁 Stay safe and keep riding.🇩🇪🇬🇧
Great video again guys I really enjoyed that, I felt for you with all that bad weather, I've recently bite the bullet and got myself some heated gear, I can honestly recommend the Keis stuff, just need a pair of heated socks now and I will be sorted. I can honestly say I can't understand why I had resisted for so long about buying this gear. Take care guys and I will be looking forward to your next adventure. But I can't wait until our own Motourev adventure as we ride from UK to Switzerland Alps in the last part of July.
Mate, I'm like you I really need to see what all this heated gear is all about. I've heard of the Keis gear, it seems to be a little bit tricky to get hold of out here in Germany. Anyway, thanks for the comment and your ongoing support mate, it's always appreciated. Your Euro tour to Switzerland is gonna be epic. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Rolf. Jacket (Rukka Rimo) is Goretex laminate so the water just rolls off it. It’s fast becoming my favourite jacket (for what I do), might make a video about it. The trousers are Adv Spec, so not waterproof. My gloves are €200 Bmw double layer things. They are good but when your heated grips are on the heat opens the membrane and let’s water in…so dry cold hands or wet warm ( ish ) hands. I’m not sure they were worth the money. Boots are Alpinestars Toucans. Goretex, very good but a bit warm in summer. Everything dries out in my tent except my gloves. So pretty happy with most of my kit, but it’s taken me along time to find a combination that I like. 👍🏼
@@GreenString oh wow. That is some nice info. Interesting scenario: gore Tex in combination with heated grips... What about your GS? I thought you mentioned in a vid that it is going to be replaced... Or did I recall incorrect??
You are correct Rolf. But the GS is not getting replaced. It’s way to good for that and it has a lot of sentimental value. I don’t think I could ever sell it. However I’ve ordered a standard Tenere 700, arriving next month. I wanted something to abuse a bit more off road and the Tenere fits the bill. My GS deserves a bit of a rest, poor thing😂
"A new level of misery" aww man, this was a good episode. Thanks for the content :)
Thanks Tobias, editing these episodes over the last few weeks made me smile…and cry🤣. Stay safe my friend and keep on riding👍🏼
