Getting further than 14 miles on a gallon of gas in any 460-vehicle is good. 3:55:1 gears and taller tires help you a lot here, along with your good new parts. Great video. I know guys who say their 460 4x4 gets 8-12mpg at the most, but some of them have 4.10 :1 or even 4.88:1 gears with a lift and tires similar to yours.
Yes the gears and the size of tires do have an effect, also the type of transmission the truck came equipped with. Some automatic trucks were made with no overdrive and those get terrible fuel economy

Excellent video! The EV6 style injectors are a big improvement. I had a 94 F150 4 x 4 in the past. It had the 5.0. I loved that truck. I always knew the intake tubes were a restriction. Never got any better than 13 miles a gallon no matter if the AC was on or off. Beautiful truck but it started rusting from the inside out in the bed area. Nice you have the injector flow tester. Thanks for the vid! I just traded my nice Honda Foreman Rubicon for a 97 F250 with a 460 and 301k on the clock. Truck is worn down but that engine sounds great other than the passenger exhaust manifold leaking! This is very helpful as ive never owned a 460 before!

I honestly think all 460s have leaking exhaust manifolds at this point 🤣, mine is leaking too and I think it is because one of the bolts is broken. Yes, Im definitely moving on from the fuel economy stuff with the truck, Ill be working towards installing headers and exhaust, and Im planning on doing some work to the engine, ported intake and heads, a cam and Ill see where it goes from there
Fuel blend, atmospheric temperature, and even a basic tune-up would give you that type of mpg improvement...... The K&N filter flows absolutely no more cfm than the oem filter except in ISO facility test it is well documented that they do allow a substantial amount of particulate dirt into the engine which WILL increase piston ring wear. Even swapping out new oem injectors would give you...most likely increased mpg.
Hello thanks for watching, by far the largest increase came from a proper tune up, you are 💯 correct. Everything else I did, the intake mod and the injectors only got me about 1.5mpg more than I was already getting
I have 2 F250s with the EFI 460. 94 Super Duty best I ever did was 13 and 1/2. The other is 11 and 12. The only way to make these trucks get better fuel mileage is to get rid of the speed density. Convert them to sequential fire they will get 16 and 17
Hi! Definitely you sound like you know what you are talking about! The plan I had for this truck was using the ECU off a 5.0 Mustang to run a Maf and sequential injection, Im not sure If I will still do it, but it’s really a possibility.

I think that's about the best it going to get . I had a 2000 Grand voyager SE at 15.6 MPG after using Royal purple fuel treatment . You can probably get some high efficiency tires but I know most truck guys would never do that , also a lighter AGM Battery and some "smoothie" type wheels
I think you’re right! Maybe if I really wanted to squeeze every ounce of economy out of it I could get smaller street tires and convert over to Maf, but Im ok with what it’s getting now. Im really trying to get some more power out of it, I had saved up to buy the banks headers and exhaust kit but they discontinued it 😳

Its hard to be more detailed than the exact car you need to get them from. There’s a lot of knockoffs being sold online so i dont want to be responsible for giving out a part number and giving china more 🇺🇸 money, hope you understand.

But in all seriousness it would be nice if people would do budget swaps like a 7.4 powerstroke or cummins (which came in Ford F650's). I know Rich swapped a 03 GMC Yukon with a blown 5.3 to a cummins 4bt and doubled with fuel economy to 24mpg. He did that on a budget.

The injectors are from a late 90’s to early 00’s Ford Taurus 3.0 DOHC, the earlier models have the ones you need, the only thing to watch out for is the plugs at some point Ford started using oval plugs on the very same engine, so find ones that have the square plugs.
I would like to change the SD to a MAF setup, kinda of pricey. I live in a rural area and slowing down helps get better mileage. 3.55 gears at 60mph seems to be the sweet spot. I have stock-size tires also. A big difference between city and highway driving. 5mpg versus 12 for me. I'm lucky I don't drive much. In the winter I leave it in 4wd for a few months. much snow and ice here in the winter. My truck is really good in the snow. I spend just under a hundred bucks a month for gas. good video, I think I already have those newer style injectors. I would like a fresh engine with the computer cam. Its in the future.
Sounds like you have a plan for your truck! Ive thought about going with a MAF sensor from a newer 460, on the last years California F250/F350 trucks had a MAF computer from 94-97. But the easiest way to do it is to find a set up from a Fox Body 5.0 Mustang and just have a chip installed to let it know it’s a 460 now. You’re right about the city driving, if I use the highway i get pretty good mileage, if I use only the street and short trips Ill get about 11mpg tops. Thank you for watching

I love the lightings, I also love the short bed trucks! Recently I started looking at the crew cabs with a long bed as well, there’s just something that draws me to those long trucks! I just love that body style, it’s really very similar from the early 80s to the mid 90s
@@MrBlitzkrieg1987 yes those boxy body designs are cool. I think the nick name for ones the same generation as that white F-250 there are bricknoses if I'm not mistaking because of their flat front. Ford's stepside box was dropped in 1988 but was later redesigned & brought back in 1992.
What you did on your intake pipe... that's a pretty common modification to 10th Gen F150's. It's aka the Gott's Mod. Looking forward to the truck content... I need to do some more on mine. I need a core support pretty bad, and that should be fun. I think I asked before, but who makes your fuel injector tester/cleaner?
I love watching truck content, Ill be all over those videos when you post them! 😂 Yeah even on these older trucks cutting those pipes is super common, probably one of the first things people modify. So the flow bench I use is a cheap Chinese one made by LAUNCH, its good enough for anything DIY, but there are tons of better ones. The only thing annoying about it is that it only does 6 injectors at a time
@89G yes, they make a bunch of different stuff! Ive had this one for years and the only thing I had to replace is the fuel pump, which I cross referenced to a honda civic pump 😂👍
Hey, so the injectors Im using are off a late 90s early 00s Ford Taurus. The one with the 3.0 DOHC engine, be careful because some later ones have the oval plugs that will not work with your harness… make sure you find the rectangular ones
I really like the look of your truck! I just picked up a low mileage F250 just like yours FWIW. What are the wheel and tire sizes you're running? I like how they aren't huge and require a lift kit install to clear the fenders.
These are just shy of 33inches I can get you the exact number and model of tire when I get home! Yes they definitely transformed the look of my truck 🤣🤟

Hello, the 6.8 V10 is a completely different engine, it’s closely related to the newer 4.6 and 5.4 modular engines. Most of the things I’ve done to this truck would not apply, other than possibly the full tuneup I did using factory parts!
The 460 known to pass everything but the gas station ⛽️ 14 miles to the gallon not bad my gen 1 raptor 6.2 10.1 miles to the gallon ugg gas is going up again unfortunately 🔧🚗💪🇺🇸🙌👊

@@Odessa45 K&N filter is definitely optional, I know lots of people hate it, but Ive been using it for a long time! It’s apparently an issue if your vehicle has a MAF sensor of if you do heavy off road driving, non of that applies to mine 🫡
Not a fan of them? I’ve heard that the red oil they use on the filter can damage your MAF Sensor, luckily these trucks have no MAF, since they are speed density. The K&N filter has an undeniable advantage, the flow of air passes through with less resistance than the OE filter, and that alone can boost your mileage if you don’t abuse the pedal. I think in this truck it is staying, but I agree with you and I wouldn’t use is if it had a MAF
K&N's are a huge no-go for offroad community. Without the oil, or not enough oil, or if neglected they will not keep dirt out of the intake. This gets worse if the filter as been on the buisness end of an air compressor nozzle after cleaning (to dry to filter faster). The air pressure opens up holes in the gauze. The juice is not worth the squeeze in my opinion. Run OEM filters to keep the crap out, or run oiled foam for offroad applications. I'd wager good money that the K&N offers no noticeable power gains over stock filters

You need to do a mass airflow conversion. Msd coil did wonders on mine. Bump up the timing a bit. But that is a damn nice truck

Dboss garage swapped their 93 460 F350 with a CAT 3126 and gets 22mpg now. Of course he went a little overboard with the swap spending probably $50K.

I agree, she’s no Prius but I still love driving it! Even if I stop at every gas station 🤣! Raptors are a whole different level of Truck! Keep it forever 🇺🇸

HEY BRO I CHANGED MY T-STAT AND I FOUND MY CTS(COOLENT TEMP SENSOR)FULL OF GREEN MEAN,TOOK A WIRE BRUSH CLEANED IT UP PUT SOME DIE ELECTRIC GREASE ON IT AND ITS DAY AND NIGHT....IE IDLE,THROTTLE RESPONSE.WORTH A LOOK
Love this!!! I will definitely see if mine is the same way. My truck has been sitting for a while, plus I don’t think that sensor has ever been replaced so most likely your advice will help my truck 😎👍

@@Odessa45 K&N filter is definitely optional, I know lots of people hate it, but Ive been using it for a long time! It’s apparently an issue if your vehicle has a MAF sensor of if you do heavy off road driving, non of that applies to mine 🫡
Don't buy a 460 expecting great fuel economy
What if you already have the Truck? 😂 If I shared that mentality I would still be driving the truck the way I got it, getting under 10mpg

Not a fan of them? I’ve heard that the red oil they use on the filter can damage your MAF Sensor, luckily these trucks have no MAF, since they are speed density. The K&N filter has an undeniable advantage, the flow of air passes through with less resistance than the OE filter, and that alone can boost your mileage if you don’t abuse the pedal. I think in this truck it is staying, but I agree with you and I wouldn’t use is if it had a MAF
K&N's are a huge no-go for offroad community.
Without the oil, or not enough oil, or if neglected they will not keep dirt out of the intake.
This gets worse if the filter as been on the buisness end of an air compressor nozzle after cleaning (to dry to filter faster).
The air pressure opens up holes in the gauze.
The juice is not worth the squeeze in my opinion.
Run OEM filters to keep the crap out, or run oiled foam for offroad applications.
I'd wager good money that the K&N offers no noticeable power gains over stock filters
