Maaaaaaaan I absolutely love when Toxic Garbage Island goes into the "evil waltz" 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 etc... part in the chorus. And that somber, melancholic tapping on The Gift of Guilt.... hits you right in the feels... Gojira is just next level stuff. One of those bands where every time you listen it's like the first time.
On the vocal note for where dragons dwell joe duplantier is I’m pretty sure the sole vocalist but his approach is unique and distinct coz he does actually channel abit of pitch into his harsh vocals he actually touches on it in an interview but I can’t remember who with
“Djent” is an onomatopoeia of palm-mutes from distorted guitars primarily used in metal. It was popularized by Meshuggah, especially after their Obzen album was released. They used 8-string guitars for the material of that album, and retroactively on their re-recorded version of Nothing. Meshuggah’s guitar tone and playing style kicked off what was called the “djent” movement. That tone and style has been lovingly (and at times annoyingly) been used in most modern metal for the past ten years… at least. Gojira is definitely not djent, but there are elements of djent in their riffs. Gojira likes to nod their heads in Meshuggah’s direction without actually copying.
Also, totally understand your reasoning for not doing the live version for this video, but you owe it to yourself to go and watch the live version of Where Dragons Dwell anyway - it is an absolute masterclass from Mario Duplantier!

The musicianship, their craftsmanship and ability to create sonic landscapes is just beyond incredible and they are vastly underappreciated these days. Damn fine video again sir!
Gojira are great because they aren't about image, they are literally a handful of laid back french dudes paying metal for the love of metal. They are the epitome of great and simple song writing done right. What more is there to say?

You talking about Where Dragons Dwell feeling large and cavernous, the live version (which I am sure it was suggested - Hellfest) has this to the max. At the mid point when Joe goes "I SAWWWWWWWWW.......I SAW MONSTEEERSSS" the echo from the concert setting could be heard and you might mistaken it for a rally to war.

So, lol I love that you’re doing a long form with my favorite of all bands. I’ve been a fan since I found them on a French metal website back in 1999. I have seen them live 4 times and I’ll tell ya this In the Wilderness is their very best song. Toxic garbage Island comes from a really angry album. It’s stripped down and murderous.

I started playing bass guitar for a year now (after playing guitar for almost 15 years) and it's opening up a whole new world for me as I listen to music with 'new' ears. Your videos are always an inspiration. Never stop what you're doing! You're my favourite reaction channel out of all of them.
Great stuff, Geebz! Surprisingly trance-inducing long form today. We'll get that BTBAM long form, some day... a boy can dream... In the meantime, might I suggest a slightly more mellow progressive rock band that ranks up there with Tool and BTBAM for me called "The Dear Hunter." They also just happen to have one of the best vocalists working nowadays. Their song "Mustard Gas" is nice and heavy, but other songs like "The Tank" and "Where The Road Parts" bring in more of their theatrical/big band/orchestral leanings. I'm positive you will enjoy them, and their concept albums known as the acts cover a long form story concept spanning 5 albums and nearly 10 years of releases thus far. But don't let that dissuade you. Plenty of brilliance on per-track listens. Mahalo, brah!
I really love it how BTBAM and The Dear Hunter fans overlap despite the MASSIVE difference in sound. I know why it is, but it’s still fascinating. Maybe “The Most Cursed of Hands / Who Am I” would be a good listen?

So, lol I love that you’re doing a long form with my favorite of all bands. I’ve been a fan since I found them on a French metal website back in 1999. I have seen them live 4 times and I’ll tell ya this In the Wilderness is their very best song. Toxic garbage Island comes from a really angry album. It’s stripped down and murderous.
Gojira has become my favorite band there is no other band that I can constantly just go back to and cant get tired of them.

I started playing bass guitar for a year now (after playing guitar for almost 15 years) and it's opening up a whole new world for me as I listen to music with 'new' ears. Your videos are always an inspiration. Never stop what you're doing! You're my favourite reaction channel out of all of them.

In the meantime, might I suggest a slightly more mellow progressive rock band that ranks up there with Tool and BTBAM for me called "The Dear Hunter." They also just happen to have one of the best vocalists working nowadays. Their song "Mustard Gas" is nice and heavy, but other songs like "The Tank" and "Where The Road Parts" bring in more of their theatrical/big band/orchestral leanings. I'm positive you will enjoy them, and their concept albums known as the acts cover a long form story concept spanning 5 albums and nearly 10 years of releases thus far. But don't let that dissuade you. Plenty of brilliance on per-track listens. Mahalo, brah!
