      He absolutely is an insanely good live vocalist and done those toned growls better than anyone! That being said they’re definitely doing some layering in the studio and on at least one of those vocal tracks he’s singing cleanly. But that doesn’t take away from the performance one bit

      Yeah man, he is a fantastic drummer, and he plays a Megabell ride, so he’s got a leg up with me. I met him, and got to chill with him for about 45 minutes, before a show in Texas. I was talking to him about drumming, of course. I told him that his drumming informs my playing immensely. Also said that I sometimes want to meditate and get my life right, when I listen to their lyrics! He says, “ No Brother, meditate while playing music!” “Then you will truly know what God is!” Just melted my 🧠

    This is simply one of the best modern metal compositions. This album, The Way of All Flesh, and its predecessor, From Mars to Sirius, are two of the most important and best metal albums of the 21st century. Very happy to see you have the pleasure of hearing it. The last minute or so ending to the song is the "album theme" that repeats a few times across the album.

      Gojira has a lot of metallica influence, so he may have derived his style a little from hetfield combined with his harsher death influences. Joe has a far more distorted scream than het, but he most likely incorporated hets style in his own.

Gojira lyrics try to communicate some really interesting ideas, and I believe they are well aquatinted with the Gnostic gospels as well. Their music becomes infinitely more interesting lyrically if you have an understanding of those things. From Mars to Sirius as an album is insanely interesting conceptually. Geebz dude....this is the actual one for all Gojira fans who have followed them from the start! Loved your first reaction to an almost impossible song to cover in one take. So much going on rhythmically, musically and just down right overall expressionally from what they can produce in one song. IMO this was their Swansong.... pushing the envelope, futuristic track that can never be repeated again (A bit like Rosetta Stoned - Tool....for its time). Nothing has ever been repeated or touched on any later recordings (for both tracks)....but thankfully we have the privilege to be able to go back and just study, listen and damn right admire what was written musically and lyrically to these absolute fucking masterpieces which were written in that time and period!! Its a good time to be alive with all this music from these great musicians....which are still alive and kicking....and we still get the chance to see these bands live!! Because believe you me in 20-30 years time people will be looking at out generation in envy because they were to young or not born to actually witness these extraordinary bands in the flesh. Btw a little fun fact by a metal singer here: all distortions are pitch based, so technically you can sing a scale growling ahahahah BUT the "gojira screams" are something unusual and very very advanced, the singer is reaaaaally driving an emotional journey everytime he sings!

    • @unoriginal_name7091
      @unoriginal_name7091 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He's engaging his vocal chords too much and if he kept up this style he'd have blown out his voice like Matt Heafy did a decade ago. That's why he's been doing so much more clean singing on the last two albums and why the vocals aren't as loud on Fortitude. Although there's a silver lining in that after recovering Matt's vocals are better on In the Court of the Dragon than they were on Shogun, so maybe the same will be true for Joe?

    • @98jerda
      @98jerda 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unoriginal_name7091 yeah his type of vocals are kinda exhausting, and for those who started some years ago it was really hard to find a good teacher and/or scientific research on harsh vocals. Even now it's not easy to separate what's reliable and not. As you said also Matt Heafy and Mikael Åkerfeldt went through something similar, finding themselves forced to change vocal style over an issue of non-sustainability. I really hope he's finding a good balance for his technique bc they are definitely one of my favourite bands 🖤

    what you hear at the end of the song is a kind of intro to the next song, in which, the main riff that will sound is presented but in a much more melodic way and reversed, that is why it gives the feeling of transition, because on that album they made that kind of intros in a good part of the songs. I think it's a super cool detail to put on an album like that, it's just makes you to be hooked and in a brutal trance during all the songs, they trully are something special Gojira. Lyrics --->
    Breathing slowly, mechanical heartbeat
    Losing contact with the living
    Almighty TV plugged, hybrid empty brain
    Don't see anything real in the game
    The tension is building constantly
    No reason just a reflex I have, driven by clockwork
    I try to keep an eye open
    And I realize I haven't closed my eyes in a long time
    Neglected emotions leading to catastrophic voyage on the other side
    I have been given so much stress and lack of confidence
    I've been given the gift of so small hope deep inside
    I haven't close my eyes in a long time, I am trying
    I cannot stomach these forms and colors anymore
    But I'm here to continue, after all I have been through
    I try to keep my eyes open, I am realizing
    This life and death more precious than anything
    I won't bring no material in the after life
    Take no possessions, I would rather travel light
    I'm of this kind that kills all day
    But I don't know yet how to die
    Art of dying is the way to let all go
    Within I practice, in the secret of my soul
    My shape in the reflector has
    Now for ever, a life on it's own

      Just listned to Strawberry Serenity and I gotta say it's typical modern progressive djent-shred metal/deathcore, but it's also over-the-top, plus some modern pop/rap sounds and aesthetics. Like, it is not bad, it is funny and cool, but "innovating" is a bit too much. As a comedy it is cool, but as a music I don't think so (if you're not a 15-year-old, sorry for ageism). Feels not like an innovation in blending different genres, but just as a mindless mishmash of cool and popular things.

      @@BORN753 if Strawberry Serenity isn't innovative then nothing is. But please tell us what you consider innovating. I'm guessing whatever you say can be deconstructed in the same form and fashion you gave here - namely that it exists within some already existing subset of genres.

    You tried so hard not to bang your head at the beginning that your shoulder tweaked! Haha. I discovered this band through reaction videos and it's the best thing I ever did. You've got such a deep rabbit hole to dive down. I would be here all day if I was to recommend my favourites, so I'll just suggest to you to pick any song you fancy and I guarantee you'll be blown away. Thank you for your content Geebz, you've helped a lot of us through lockdown. I hope your shoulder gets better soon!
