Just so you know, that brown tube that comes in the box with the new thermostat is to turn the sring loaded clips into place, thats what i do. It fits perfect and easy everytime

@@juanmacias6759 unhook as many hoses on the housing as possible and you have to push that bundle of wires out of the way. I barely got it out and back in

Just changed my thermostat I had changed my temperature sensor last month that wasn’t the issue so I had to deal with this the only tricky part is getting that thermostat out the housing great video man 💪🏾
I had to give up. Getting a mobile mechanic to come out to look at it, I fought with that 1 inch wire cable for two days loosing 2 sets 10mm to the engine bay in the process, these new chevys are just to much of a pain to work on.

Just to clarify the original thermostat only had a gasket for whatever reason and the new thermostat didn't need a gasket correct? Because I noticed my original thermostat had a gasket but the new one from Auto Zone didn't so I went back there trying to find a gasket for it.

There should be a cardboard cylindrical tube in The box with the thermostat put that tube over the top of that round plate of the thermostat push down on on the tube with your hand which in turns pushes down on those wings twist and turn and take the thermostat out. Put the new thermostat in use the tube push down on the tube which pushes down on the wings twist and turn and the wings will go right underneath those two side brackets on the housing.

gr8 viDO chEf, & I was told thermostat was on same side as water pump(12 impala, same as 13, not srprIzed, typical Utube dumness). gS mAB IL just have thermostat in stock 4 Nothr dA.. btw mAB this is rong, but I’m gSCing MAYBE?🤨 if 1 lifts driver side, opens reserve tank cap, & fully drains a litle over 1 gallon(1/3) of coolant out through petcock drain plug, removing therm housing MIGHT not spill another gallon on wire plUm near car conputer..50/50 odds, hmnn🤔
water pump is on the opposite side of the engine. And yeah if you lift the driver side and drain it you shouldn't have much of a problem with coolant wasting from the thermostat while you change it
Those dealerships don't play around with those labor rates. It's probably a legit price because it's a chunk of work but you can do it yourself with some tools and patience
Well, looks like my car is going to the shop to have my thermostat done. The current temperature is -5 degrees with wind chills of -20. My hands will have suffered from frostbite within the first 5 minutes of holding a ratchet.
How did you get the housing out without taking the hoses off, you didn't show that part. Is it only because you don't have the radiator in that you were able to do that?
I just struggled for a while. The hoses wouldn't come loose without feeling like I was about to tear them so I left them on. Should be able to do it without removing the radiator
How long after you replaced the temp sensor did u have the problem again... Mine is doing the same thing with the gauge stuck at cool and engine hot ac off msg...
My girl was driving one day and got the engine power reduced message. Got home and checked and the side of the radiator was wet and the coolant reservoir was empty
Anyone, when I lift hood or put hand by grill it is very hot heat from engine. But gauge sits at little under 1/2 mark. Is this the norm on you guys impala ?

Fighting, frustration and a little luck. It's tough getting it back in place with all the stuff around it
Probably be a good ideal to add a little bit of some RTV sealant to help the gasket stay in place while reinstalling it.

At 5:09 The regular oem has an inter seal “the top black piece“ but the new ones down. Unless we don’t need them?

So even the easy way is still tough then. I don't know what they were thinking designing this one

My 2013 Chevy Impala ltz has two metal pipes in from of thermostat. Can I remove looses these?
I think you should be able to. Mine is a 2013 so they should be the same

I did not. I needed to twist n jerk it out. My brother in law came n twisted n jerked it out like one of those jigsaw puzzle things.

Does the thermostat housing only have a gasket or does the actual thermostat have a gasket also?
It's just a gasket for the housing as a whole

The new thermostat itself has no extra gasket it just fits into the housing. Then it's the gasket for the housing to the engine

Anyone know how to reach the bottom bolt on the thermostat? I cant reach the bottom bolt underneath the black bundle of wires
It's a fight, you're gonna have to pull those wires and hold em while you undo the bolt
