Thanks for the video. I struggled with the serpentine belt and was unable to find the diagram for it. I would strongly recommend taking a picture of the belt before loosening it.
This video deserves the likes as much as the views, pretty much dead on, same scenario for me, got home from working all day, bam! Alternator goes out, picked one up put it on, and can go to bed early like nothing happened❤
This is the Video I'm gonna use tomorrow on my 2015.. Much Respect on doing it at night!! I'm sure I'll be doing some, if not all of mine at night.. As I was just outside for the last 4.5 hours (9pm-1:30am) Walmart trip for a jump box, swapping Batteries twice and changing terminals.. Very Unsuccessful night..I'll let ya know how I make out, thanks in advance.
Thank you so much, I had to change mine myself , mechanics wanted over $450 , I said hell no. Great Intel, had mine done in 1 hour , only cause I took my time.
Hey that's pretty interesting you're real clear how you explain everything I'm 73 years old I used to do Automotive work when I was younger at a gas station for around 4 years and this is really going to help me a lot when I get get my new alternator how I can take the old one out and put my new one in my 2015 Chevy Impala with a 6 cylinder hey guy thanks a million I do appreciate it
Right down to business. I like it. If I may make one suggestion though. Give the fastener sizes a shout out to make it easy peasy on what tools someone doing it out and about would need to carry. That aside, thanks for the video, helped a ford guy real quick figure out what he got himself into helping a friend of a friend ;) Thank you.
Great tutorial. Super detailed yet concise. Everything was explained very well. I am also happy to know I'm not the only one who struggles getting stuff in and out of those tiny spaces. Taking the battery off on this car requires removing like 2 or 3 other components, too and EVERYTHING is a super tight fit.
This instructional video was spot on. Made my alternator replacement a breeze. As an aside, I installed a new battery when replacing the blown alternator, which allowed the removal of the alternator under the upper heater hose and thru the battery box. Saved me $450
Just plain awesome! Quite a nice saving this concise, to the point, non rambly video provided. Over 500 bucks saved after sourcing out parts and doing this myself. To have done this in the dead of night is pretty impressive too. Cheers!
Thanks bro! You just saved me lol, couldn’t remember if the pulley was the third bolt or not. Was standing there with a stupid look on my face trying to figure it out lol.
Hey man, great tutorial! My 13 impala just had the check battery charging system light come on and my alternator is intermittently working according to the multimeter. I changed the shunt on the negative terminal and still no luck. Looks like ill be pulling this alternator. With your video im not worried at all. Thanks!
Do you think I can drop in the optional GM 170 amp alternator vs the standard 150 amp without running into any issues? Believe the 170 is for the optional police package but I’m running car audio stuff so need to upgrade it.
Looks easy but I may pull out my battery so I have more space to work with but we’ll see, I wanna get a higher amp for my car. I’ll also need to change the upper mount and check my belt too. Nice video
I also was wondering if battery light on due to HO alternator I no I put a 300 amp on my impala and now battery light on and it say service charging system
Thanks I'm goinylt to try this tomorrow. Your video makes it look simple. I'm not mechanically inclined but I'll go step by step with this video. How long does it take or should it take?
A warning to those with the beefy boy 170 amp alternators. It is notably wider than the standard 150 amp. To save you some heartache, take the idler pulley loose bolt loose from the block but don't remove it fully. undo the other bolts to get the alternator free, then reposition it. The pulley will move with the alternator. You can take the pulley out then. Second to pull the things out, wiggle it past the center toward the exhaust manifold, you'll have more room to get it out there. Alternatively pull the battery and upper coolant hose for an easier extraction
my pulley bolt isn’t going in after putting new one in i took out the new and put the old on to see if it was different sizes and the old one did the same thing
I need to replace the serpentine belt on a 2014 Impala limited LTZ, it looks like a tight area behind the tensioner pulley as if the belt will have to be turned sideways to slide up behind then over the tensioner pulley...I have seen some belt routing and it is different for the Impala Limited then it is for plain Impala both have the 3.6 engine...any advise on this before I get started replacing the belt? Thanks.

Wow I was about to pay a mechanic $850 to do this! Good thing I found this vid, thanks you saved me hundreds.
You can also pull the battery out & slide the alternator out that way, leaving the dog bone mount attached.
Thank you very much the video was very very good better than 90% of the videos out and even done at night

Hey did u put a HO alternator on your impala I did and that's what mines is say too
If you remove the positive terminal and pull the harness out of the way then you don't have to remove the mount. Alternator slides right out.
How come you removed the one of the pulleys?
How’d you put the belt back on
