Nice Yankees hat, I was born in NYC and went to a few games but I fell asleep because baseball can get boring when the pitcher is on a roll. It's like watching two full grown men just playing catch.
Tampatec You need to come to the Trop when the Yankees are in town. You won’t fall asleep. More NYers than Floridians, and we make it known. Truthfully, I’ve mellowed a lot since moving down here, but those games always bring back the NY attitude. Guess you can take the NYer out of NY, but you can’t take NY out of a NYer.
So, for the initial glue removal of from the screens, ive recently been using WD40, it hangs around longer, attacks teh glue and makes it easier to remove. Then once gone - hit it with the Alcohol.
For those who don't have isopropanol alcohol at home, you can use vinegar to remove battery corrosion. If you don't have vinegar, you either don't cook or you're crazy. :)
Its such a shame that in a few short years "junk" consoles especially Gameboy's have shot up in price. I remember paying around $7(ish) for these plus shipping.
my advice for when you find another contact like that one that was a blue and crystallized is to fill a bottle cap with vinegar and to drop it in. Had to do that for a gba and it just fizzled away then you wash off the vinegar. Great vid enjoyed it keep up the good work!
3:02 That looks more like old and dried up _watercolor _*_paint_* than a crayon, lolz (also, ew it looks like mold too) So, the 'junk' is revived anew. Wonder if the seller saw this video... xD
I've got 3 main people I watch on TH-cam. The British Gameboy lad - You. The Australian/New Zealand iPhone lad - Hugh Jeffreys. And The American Phone Testing lad - Jerryrigeverything. I've learned so much from all three and love the variety of all 3. Love your videos. You're amazing! ❤️
Gio g That’s dependent on the sponge. We use Scotchbrite. If it’s a Scotchbrite sponge it works fine. If it some cheap scouring pad, it’s not going to work right. It’ll gouge.
IMO lighter fluid (£land) is much better at shifting those kinds of super sticky glue than IPA. Let it sit for a minute or two, then wipe off with kitchen towel. Might need a couple of goes as it smears, but you will be done more quickly. For corrosion, white vinegar is better as it neutralises the alkali that has leaked from the batteries. Rinse over with IPA afterwards. Both are a bit smelly but then no guts, no glory. Neither will kill you.
What to you use to retrobright your gameboys? I've got one at home I managed to repair and I wanted to make it look a tad better. Great video(s) by the way, refurbs are my favourite :)
Peroxide salon cream, the higher concentration the better, or just liquid peroxide, heat works better/more uniform than UV light, submerged it a sealed plastic bag and submerged in a hot water bath without touching the bottom that is.
That corroded terminal looked like those old rock-sugar candies, but in a blue color. For peeling the polariser off of the screen, have you tried maybe heating it up slightly? I've seen quite a few of your videos, and I may have missed one if you did try heating up the screen and stopped for whatever reason, so sorry for the suggestion if you've already tried it. :)
Hi. I am a big fan of your channel. If it is not too much of a hassle, may I know what hair dyeing solution you have used for the retrowhiting? I am testing it out on my own and hopefully I can get something similar in hk. Many thanks to you and great job on the restoring work. I have learnt so much from you and techmoan!
on occasion, I would try to try to make me a gameboy pocket full black with the screen that goes well. I had a game boy advance sp ags 001, a gameboy "panda" ags 001, a K1 gba sp with screen ags 101, a digi retro boy and so on ... But never a "real" game boy I played it just during recess at school and that's it ... maybe the right time to get started! 😊
I have just brought 6 gameboy pockets from Japan for £50 shipped. All in different state of repair, some with the power LED some without, I was wondering where do you get the replacement lens without the power text/hole!! :)
I have a little hint to share regarding polarizing filters. I you look closely at the original one, you will notice that it consists of two layers. One is a polarizer and the second is a color filter (these are not scientific terms). There is another type of filters called circular polarizers. Some people claim that they remove the green tint. Well, I got a couple of those from China and they don't work so You may want to try a different route. Or maby I just got ripped off and they sent me wrong ones :p
can you make a video about how you clean boards (alcohol) and plastic (hydrogen peroxide)? What is the difference Gameboy Pocket with and without LED? Thank you for your work.
Did you ever get a Gameboy unit where the REAR polariser was burnt? I have a few of them that need fixing but it's going to be a nightmare replacing the polarizers on both sides of the LCD.
Link to the polariser you purchased please? Also, the triwing bit you purchased for the screwdriver set? Probably the third time I’ve asked. Would be helpful if you saw this. Cheers.
Hi! Can you explain me where I should put the polarizer filter? I'm not sure if you put the polarizer filter sticked on the lcd display or inside the protector of the display. Thank you
Another really enjoyable GBP video Elliott. Thanks for taking the time to share. Can I ask where you buy that Hydrogen Peroxide gel in the UK? Can’t seem to find it anywhere.
"It's been a while since you and I have done a good old fashioned Lets refurb on some gameboy pockets" *How do you know it was 3 months since i refurbished one!?* BTW Amazing video! These refurbishments will never get old!
I love the Lets Refurb series, something relaxing about it.

Lol i think he didn't even think bout that when he got that hat, those 'r basicly for sale everywhere

There's a pretty visible indent almost in the black gameboy pockets screen, just right of the centre
Can you please give a time code?

Elliot: buys "junk" items, gets working ones.
Me: buys "new" items, gets radioactive cat sick.
I have an original DMG gameboy that I’ve put a backlight in and I like watching these videos to see how to fix and clean it properly
I like that you drop the polarizer in rather than gluing it down. Makes it easier to swap out later when you find a gray one.
That is the think of the polarizer! There are some with and some with no glue
For those who don't have isopropanol alcohol at home, you can use vinegar to remove battery corrosion. If you don't have vinegar, you either don't cook or you're crazy. :)
Thanks man that's helpful
vinegar will rot the terminals and make them brittle.
@@jeffoops9458 That's if you put excess solution, any equalizer can rot the terminals if you are not careful.
Vinegar works (acid) better as battery leaks are alkaline quite often.
that battery contact looks like its been down under the sea for a thousand years.
It’s better down where it’s wetter take it from me!
Dio could never
"...beautiful little game boys..." hot darn, that could sound really creepy if taken out of context.

Wow, didn't know that these screens are fixable.
Absolutely Ecstatic For The Revival of Lets Refurb! Gameboy edition. 😁😁
The green polarizer worked in a previous DMG Pocket because it matched the theme, making it look more like the DMG Game Boy.
Its such a shame that in a few short years "junk" consoles especially Gameboy's have shot up in price. I remember paying around $7(ish) for these plus shipping.
Yup, that's pretty sad. I paid 75 bucks for my DMG that has no sound. I hope that it will be easy to fix
I challenge you to a reassembly-off, Elliot!
Haha I would love to do that 😂
People you can buy the heated nail unit for under 7 quid if you want to brighten up your stained gear
Note: Some models are not heat dryers, but _air_ dryers.

Did the same. That indeed works very well.

Mould, ew! Lol 😂
Been binge watching all these refurb videos lately. Happy to see a new post!

You edit the videos in such a pleasant way, love to watch these videos
I've missed these videos mate! Really enjoy your work! 👊
Thanks!
I just noticed you edit to the beat and that’s fucking awesome
Just call the number on the battery cover smh
Working on two tonight myself!

My old black gbp also has a burned screen. Some day I may decide to fix it.
A silver gameboy pocket was my very first console that was my own. Lots of great memories.

That grey one turned out SOOOO nice. Great video as always!
For sanding a lot of people who spray paint cars and stuff use the green side of a normal sponge it works super well
Gio g That’s dependent on the sponge. We use Scotchbrite. If it’s a Scotchbrite sponge it works fine. If it some cheap scouring pad, it’s not going to work right. It’ll gouge.
@@MikeL-FL ok I'll make sure its the right type of sponge. thanks!
You need for Grey screen a circular polarizer film. The pocket use circular and the dmg linear!
I bet his first words were "Let's Refurb!"
holy crap those came out immaculate! i cant imagine how long this video took to edit, lovely content :)
I apologize for skipping the ads Elliott but when I saw the screen burn-in from the thumbnails I HAD to find out how bad those units were!!
If you ever do merch, do a sweater that says "minty" 😁🌼

where do you get those polarizing filters for the gameboy? Do the polarizing filters of the smarthphones also work?
the model number is MH159 which is the same as the flight that crashed.
White vinegar will clean all the corrosion and you won't even have to scrub it or anything ;)

Another great video by the best in the future of retro refurbs and repairs!
Also to clean the contact pads iv seen people use a pencile eraser to clean the black stuff from the corrosion off
Amazing work!
Question....
Where can i get one of that clear protector box for the game boy, thanks!
Congrats on your world record, homie
Try brake cleaner on the screen, it’s very good at removing greasy/sticky residue

Hey nice vid. Which gbp replacement shell would you recommend ?
Tips for keeping dust out from between screen and lens when placing the screen back into the unit?

I got a Gameboy color from a charity shop for £1 and it worked and had a box.
No way!!

Watching a yellow play it loud dmg on ebay. Gotta be one of my favourite versions despite me not being a huge fan of yellow lol
I'll make sure to bid it up for you!! 😁
i got same issue with my gameboy color ... what to do with screen ? replace whole lcd unit ? or just that film ? and where i could find one ? link pls
How do you find good deals on game boys
Why don't you put the new screwdriver set link in the description? I am really interested in it!
You’re a new speedrunner, Jump Man.
Why do old GameBoy screens often look like this? Looks like someone burnt it.
I'm here because of TronicsFix. Now i have more content to watch!
What are you using to polish the gameboy at 8:13 ?
You do fantastic work. What foam cleaner do you use?
Whenever you say "my mate vince" are you saying it like "my good friend, vince" or are you just saying his youtube username?
This is the dumbest question going!!!!
He’s from the uk they have a different way of say things if you are interested look up the differences in English(us) and English(uk)
can you make a video about how you clean boards (alcohol) and plastic (hydrogen peroxide)?

I wish I could do this with the old one I have just looked out as I am stuck at home because of the virus lockdown even though I'm health
7:36 Adam very good job

Do you clean the screws? Like if they’re tarnished or something, or just replace them with some standard Phillip head screws, 4 point screws
Also does removing the original screws effect there value?
Do the new polarised filters stick on with a glue or do they come with sticky back on them. Can you recommend where to buy them thanks.
what would happen if you dont add the polarizing filter on the screen after removing it and just reassemble he whole gameboy without it?
Literally bought a real made in Japan pocket for £7 a few months ago on ebay...
Is there adhesive on the new polariser?
So the big blob on the screen was a burn ?
And to get rid of it you just remove the glue under the 1st screen layer ?
Another really enjoyable GBP video Elliott. Thanks for taking the time to share. Can I ask where you buy that Hydrogen Peroxide gel in the UK? Can’t seem to find it anywhere.
how about showin us back polarizer /reflector replacement, is it possible ?
try using WD40 for removing the glue. And then use the alcohol.
what did you put the plastic into to revert the color state?
That's how the future should be.
How did you get into refurbing old consoles?
Please try pure acetone to remove that glue..
be done in seconds
Have you tried Hardoffs in Japan, they sell new and used electronics. Most of there used game boys and game boy pockets are cheap
