- Hi! I'm Bill Bounce and I'll explain the story/plot/meaning of Patapon 3. Enjoy!
Patapon 3 is the third game in the series, focusing on the Patapons' war against the Archfiends and their search for Earthend.
Considered a hybrid of both music and Real Time Strategy games, Patapon is a PSP game which focuses on the control of an army of small, cyclopean creatures through a series of brightly-colored, silhouetted, 2D scenarios. The only HUD present in-game is the health bar of your Patapon squads and the "help" option which shows all of the commands you have unlocked; there isn't such a thing as a cursor or control panel. Instead, the actions of the Patapons as a group are determined by a series of 4 beats, in-tempo with the background song. Each of the 4 face buttons represents a drum; the combination of these sounds create orders for your army to follow, such as "advance", "attack", "defend", and so on. Efficiently giving out orders to your Patapons without missing a beat will lead to them entering Fever Mode, during which they will become stronger and faster, as well as gaining new attacks. This Fever mode becomes increasingly necessary as the game progresses.The game also has several minigames to let you improve your army (all of them rhythm-based) and several RPG elements, letting you customize your Patapons with the stronger weapons you can find, etc.
Background
The Patapons are a tribe of warriors that were undefeatable by any foe when fighting alongside the drums of their god, the Almighty. They resemble a walking eyeball, with round black body dominated by a single eye, tiny limbs, and a cap or helmet on top. The game leads them through their world, hunting, fighting, and always searching for their one goal, "IT", which they desire to look upon and gain eternal contentment. On the way, they clash with their enemies, the Zigoton Tribe.
The story continues from the previous game. The ship the Patapons and Zigotons have constructed has been finally completed and they have set sail for new lands. On their way there, they are attacked by a Kraken who easily defeats them and sends the Patapons into the ocean to be washed ashore in a strange new land (which is actually and originally their homeland, the Patapolis) where they come up against another tribe called the Karmen. Now it is a battle to defeat the Karmen and find out who is their true enemy. Early in the game, the Patapons discover the mysterious "Hero", who wears a mask which boosts his abilities. Later, the Patapons fight against the Akumapons, and the "Dark One". Gong the Hawkeye and his fellow Zigotons appear once more, to assist the Patapons against the Karmen.
Patapon 3 focuses on the Patapons stopping the Seven Archfiends and, of course, the Patapons' continued search for Earthend. During their journey, they come across multitudes of enemies and problems barring their path. Will the Patapons finally succeed in locating Earthend?

Fun fact:you can use monkey patapon & have 2 charibasa & one demon sword boi & basically obliterate the final boss with two charge attacks note:make sure the monkey patapon has learned nova nova

I three-shotted the ver.2 of the final boss with my lvl 32 grenburr
Set skills: greatsword attack, greatblade attack, damage+, slash master, and peerless bovine
With my zapper set skill at lvl 4 now
(Yes, I used all of grenburr's set skills for that one and you can produce juicy 700k-999k damage numbers even with no crits on this build)
I love how the only time Meden becomes useful, she's mostly stone

Magnificent games deserve a place people’s minds. As games are my passion I will remember about hundreds of titles 🤘 For example next video will be about The Suffering, then Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, Onimusha and many others
I'm looking to replace my old PSP because I still have all 3 games and desperately need to play them again. The remakes on the PS4 just aren't cutting it for me haha
Nothing forgotten
Hardly forgotten. The Patapon games still have a pretty strong cult following. There's a reason they remastered 1 and 2.
Definitely not forgotten considering their kickstarter for a similiar game got funded in less than an hour

1000th like and for literally 11 years I still can't get over this badass Bird mascot of the game. Since I've tried the Charibasa class, I've had this lingering fixation over spear and shield wielding Valkyries on a chariot for quite a while. Compared to other Rarepons mask designs with more discernable features of plant/animal traits, I, for some reason, was captivated by a mask with hardly any discernable features. And even now I still am, and the childhood memories this series gave me will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thanks for the 1000th like! 🥳 I personally fell in love with overall stylistic of the game, everything delights my eye either birds, pigs, demons, balding cyclops or locations and monsters. I was really spooked when I saw alive ents which later could be set on fire, for me it was mind-boggling back in my childhood days
Man, I never knew this series had such a deep and well thought out story. Seeing the three endings is also pretty sad for the uber hero now that I think about it. The bad ending has him fighting for the rest of his (second/third) life. The neutral ending is him choosing to die and not deal with any more pain, and the good ending is him choosing to sacrifice his life to save his people. They really show how special Uber hero is in the Patapon world. It also makes me said because there isn't any way for us to get another game like this
Exactly, everything revolves around Kami and the Uber Hero, such a tragic story of such a forgetful and sometimes comic character. When I first played Patapons I couldn't even imagine the game is a diamond.

The successor of Patapon has now been revealed, it's called "Ratatan" and I believe is made by the same creators of the original series
I missed this game so much, a part of my golden childhood.

Only after 8 years after playing Patapon 3 I realised that to make perfect rhythm in summoning is to memorise the pattern presented. The pattern being "idk, figure it out yourself" and the community did it. I know how to play first one almost perfectly but for the rest I keep feeling like Dementia Gaming each time I play those.
Covet-Hiss is likely a male, as his death sound is the same as all the other male Dark Heroes. It’s likely he is treated as a female because of the side effects of the mask, representing Envy.
The fact that i got my PSP recently fixed after a few years and i still have the disc on my pc makes me wanna play it again since it was my favorite game at the time

I used to play the patapon games when i was about 7 to 9 years old... i will be 17 this year and after a family member told me the first two games had a remastered version on the playstation i fortunately rediscovered this gem of a game-series this year. Already played through patapon 1 and 2, now with my little brother, and i'm genuinely invested in the story :). Thats why i wanted to know the lore on patapon 3 which led me to this video, and damn... i never understood the story as a child, i was just playing for the fun of it but now this unironically hits me right in the feels. Never thought these games had an actual well thought out story, but oh well that just makes me love the patapon series even more than i already do! Great video man :) nostalgia can be a great feeling...

Woah! I cannot remember some of the scenes in the game especially the backstories/flashbacks about Naughtyfins, Ragewolf & Raven. The only thing that I remember clearly is saving the Princess. I guess I really chose the wrong dialogues then. Thank you for bringing back those old times when I still have my PSP.

I used to play this amazing trilogy when I was.. 5, then I played again and again when I grew up to understand the amazing story, but I still feel sorry for Makoton/Ragewolf and his girlfriend..

We fought against 3 enemies, two became friends with patapons, the skulls are disappeared with the defeat of the arch-enemies.
But we never defeated the dark star and the dark ones..
Plus.. three of the bad guys disappeared after Sonarchy killed his mom.
Plus.. with the dark hoshipon lore and the remaining things left, they could create a 4 chapter :3
@@FX-kx7tu yes, the main developer of patapons wanted to continue the series but sony didn’t greenlight the project so that developer decided to rise money on kickstarter and create a spiritual successor Ratatan, you can google it, it’s cool!

As a kid I had hundreds of hours in Patapon and Patapon 2 but I never got to try Patapon 3.
But it’s never late there are emulators on phones and on pc, it’s worth it! Give it a try once

Patapon Trilogy is such a diamond gem for every people who knows this game exist since 2008. I got to play this game from my cousin's PSP, Patapon 3 is like the final story of Patapon and Patapon 2. But since i remember ALL of the stories of Patapon Trilogy. It does make sense that:
1. i do think Ragewolf is Makaton, his anger towards Patapon is noticeable.
2. Naughtyfins have memories with Hero Patapon (now Uberhero)
3. Your video literally explain everything and it did connect the dots (my dumb child self don't notice it)
But what's interesting is that once you finish the game, all arenas that involves with Ragewolf or Naughtyfins was replaced by either Buzzcrave or Slogturtle. But interestingly, since the story said that Miss Covet-Hiss, Buzzcrave, Sonarchy, and Slogturtle survived and is entering the redemption arc (for god knows where they are rn). Ragewolf was still present in the free-time at Labyrinth of Restraint, indicating that his fate was instead of being executed, he runs off and stays at the 3rd floor of Labyrinth. That makes it 5 surviving Dark Uberheroes (if this is canon. No wonder why Ragewolf is still present at 3rd floor).
This game is so fun, I really wished I can play with friends at PPSSPP online ;w; is it possible to play Patapon 3 in PPSSPP emulator?
Indeed, game is a masterpiece. Yes, it’s possible to play online via emulator there is a discord channel with explanation of it. Also, I think there are videos about it on youtube.
P.s. Ragewolf has one of the best storylines among with Gong
@@BillBounce omg this is why i love all Dark Uberheroes. BUT Ragewolf, Naughtyfins and Ravenous have the best storylines and character development. My child self simps on those characters lol
Managed to beat final boss with just enough level to actually 5 or more shots on that demonic priest lookin' buttocks abomination. With Myamsar? Tondenga? Piekron and Oohoroc? thats giving the last stage a middle finger cuz damn it was so hard to get it done

I couldn't agree with you more. In defence of Patapon series the design looks timeless, but you're right in needs some graphical enhancement.
I started playing Patapon 1 & 2 from my brother's psp when it was first released, I tried Patapon 3 on my own but never finish it.
Right now, I'm playing the 3rd one on ppsspp. My fav Uberheroes are Todenga, Grenburr, Cannasault and Cannogabang.

I think it was 4 patapons and Hatapon all along since we start the game in a similar fashion, but gameplay-wise it was necessary to have more warriors in previous games
Some of the dungeons aren't hard
It's just individual floors for certain reasons
My personal hates:
Tower of purity floor 2:
An enemy gauntlet with no chance to heal properly in between unless you brought a healer with you, early game too.
Castle of justice floor 2:
Camera weirdness and fire.
looking at this floor makes my brain and eyes hurt, also all the enemies want to burn you.
Estate of Earnestness floor 2:
A race through the floor, past several treats, easy enough, yes? WRONG
Hope you didn't bring rain with you, cause there's a deth treat right before the last button! And the rain makes that thing essentially invincible at the levels you should be at, at least you can knock it far back enough to access the button so you don't have to worry about that as you try and muster all the DPS your team has.

I do personally think Patapon 3 was the worst in the series. I didn't like the 4 patapon system I preferred having an entire army.
I felt the same at first, but Silver Hoshipon revived only some of the patapons, the special ones, it explains their higher powers, and that a bigger army of such things would conquer the whole world in a day. Also in the first game, there was a legend about four patapons who lead their nation to greatness, so developers, probably, wanted to show the cyclicity of history. And the last point (man, I'm so nerdy) every game has shown different changes in the army, so the last one had to show something new. Omg, that's it. Thanks a lot for attention.
@@BillBounce I understand that but for my feeling it deviated alot from the original formula. I also didn't really like the enemies in the game, Bonedeth where just filler because of how easy they where and the minibosses where sometimes impossible to beat because they attack off-beat. I loved the looks, music and story of the game though. Gameplay was just lacking too much.
@@heinrichvonschnitzel8600 I totally agree especially with minibosses that are OP blocking you on your walkthrough. Yeah, overall the last game has some weird decisions and stands lower than other games
They had to cut the army size due to technology limitation, rushed development and the game was made to be played in co-op. with 3 uberheroes on screen at the same time + dark heroes + regular enemies each having ridiculous attacks. Adding another 9-18 units was too much for the psp.
is there any additional story for the last of the dark heroes, or does it really just end with son knocking out hiss?
Sadly, no story, just a new game mode to try out new heroes

Patapon 1 got a remaster on PS4...hoping that 2 and 3 will eventually also get remastered and get the 3's story re-written to make more sense.
But good this time as the 1st one was crap. A spit in the face of a long-time fan.
Lots of unique jokes sandwiched in between which makes the look back even more enjoyable
Though i wish you injected more personality on the end to try and explain what just happened. Since the last few moments of patapon three were wayy too rushed imo

You're right about the end, it was too rushed, sadly, I was done with the third game because of the end missions that were killing me. I spent about 10+ hours for tedious grinding to get over latest bosses and enemies, so I wanted to get done with it.
Speaking of the story, I felt there was nothing else to add except the idea I should've expressed, that we (players) as Kami added a piece of soul to every patapon since the start of their journey, later the impact was so influental that it turned the patapon hero to the Uberhero who became even more anthropomorphic looking almost like a human. Considering the fact that there are no human forms of life in the Pataworld it adds weight of players' presence to the game, I mean, each player basically gave away a piece of their willingness to fight until the end, fulfill dreams and move forward as patapons did throughout their journey, players made patapons what they are now. I suppose, that's what I must've said... Yet, I felt the last piece was a little far-fetched
