      I feel like people really like to breeze over the switch capabilities. Can you play Luigi's mansion at full graphical settings? No. Can you play a majority of triple A switch releases with absolutely zero graphical issues whatsoever at full speed? Yes.

      @kickedfromcampaign ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Verse99 since they did not answer, yes. The steam deck can run up to the switch very comfortably. some games do not run well but that is more often than not, the emulators fault and not the steam deck as it just is not optimized well.
      some games were not playable months ago but are now due to this. Still no clue why people say it only goes up to gamecube / ps2. it can run ps3 and switch games for the most part without an issue.

    I loved your original video about the Miyoo Mini so much I gave it a try and bough my very first emulator device. I got obsessed and ended up buying all 4 colors. Modded one of them fully: I spray painted it, changed all buttons to new ones (including better back buttons) and even changed the speaker. Super fun project I would 100% recommend doing it, it's affordable (IMO) and it looks awesome. Thank you for your videos! It made me really interested in retro gaming and modding them.

    Completely agree with the Miyoo Mini for #1. Other systems might be more comfortable and can play more games, but the Miyoo Mini is the one you're more likely to actually want to use due to how easy and fast it is to whip out of your pocket and get into a game. I was skeptical about it since I'm not normally a portable gamer but I use my Miyoo Mini every chance I get.

    • @MithosDagon
      @MithosDagon ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The device being comfortable to play on (and playing more games) is more important that a pocketable device IMO. I also hear that it’s pretty fragile so I wouldn’t put one in my pocket IMO.

      @@MithosDagon I've been throwing mine in my pocket for months now and its been fine. If you're prone to dropping things it might be an issue but all you have to do is be careful with it. Also, when I say other devices might be more comfortable that doesn't mean I've had a problem with my Miyoo Mini being uncomfortable. I'm only using it for brief gaming sessions when I'm on the go so that never became an issue. If you're using it for hours upon hours it might be a problem, but at that point you'd probably want to be playing games on something with a larger screen anyway.

      I’m gonna let my start with tabletop gaming honestly. Games these days are more just cinematic task simulators with how cookie cutter and hand held the experiences are. You know exactly what to do, where to go, who to talk to, and literally just know everything already. They need to bring back games like Morrowind at least of the elder scrolls games. Games you actually need to read, look for landmarks, and remember what the NPCs tell you

If you go to the subreddit for Miyoo, you will see tons of posts of people who have broken theirs what's something as simple as throwing their phone in the same pocket.
    The mini is a great little system, but if you just take it in your pocket and go by your day it isn't going to last you very long.

      That's a deal breaker for me, and thank you for bringing that up. While I really enjoy the portability factor that it has, unparalleled to anything else in the category, I also would like something durable as well. I'm not loaded with cash, so to drop $70 on a device that can easily break without any hope for support leaves me skeptical. Unfortunately, it's one of the few devices that I can call 100% pocketable, so that sucks to hear! Seems like there's always a catch with these handhelds...

Secondly, how can #5 be included when it breaks after a week and there's zero customer service and a mandatory self repair? Doesn't seem right. I settled on a Steam Deck and Miyoo Mini combo months ago. I'm so relieved that my finger seems to be on the pulse of the retro handheld landscape, lol. To me, going with two devices that accomplish vastly different objectives is the way to go. Get something that is beefy and can run everything you want, and get something that is ultra-portable and snappy with some key favorites. Getting devices that are well-supported by the community is important too.
    I still pine a little over the middle-ground devices like the AYN Odin and RP3+, as well as the sleekness of the Analogue Pocket, but I just know they'd fall into a gap between the two I have and never get used. They'll never be as powerful as the Steam Deck and they'll never be as portable as the Miyoo Mini. So I'm pretty happy with what I've got.

    Hey wulff! Recently I dove head-first into this crazy world of handhelds. Man is it overwhelming.. there are many many MANY options to choose from. I even just found out about the steam deck which blows my mind in itself. I keep seeing all these review pages about the awesomeness of the miyoo mini. I’m super excited to get my hands on one and branch off to “better” handhelds from there. I don’t have much time in my life anymore so I think the portability of the mini will be a good starting point for me:) this was a great review and I plan to continue to watch your stuff for the latest info! Thanks for this

    Cheers. I'm 'surviving' using my 'hacked' Switch, but then I'm only really playing Mr Driller (DC version). I am thinking of getting a windows handheld for when I start travelling again. I will bring a portable monitor, keyboard, mouse and it will double as my 'work' laptop.

    I love my Odin Pro since the moment it arrived. The best thing about the Odin Pro is that you can also use it's mapping function to configure the device as if you were playing Android games (without gamepad support) with a controller.

    It's totally worth it!

      Yeah I would of swapped the number 1 and 2 places. I still see more videos on the steam deck which means a lot of people are getting it which means it has to be the most portable game to get of the year. Linus Tech Tips does a steam deck mod video almost every month. I go where the most streamers and community are cause it will be easier to manage and fix issues when you need them. all those other portables, if they break then your simply screwed.

    Fun how I randomly picked up the steam deck and Miyoo v2 without ever watching anything about emulators. As said in the video: You ALWAYS got the miyoo with you, the steam deck sits around the house most of the time not in use, BUT being able to play cyberpunk 2077 alongside SNES-Games and Indie-Titles without the need of a biscreen is such a win that I can't recommend the stea deck enough. Grab that thing if you didnt already!

    I got the Retroid Pocket 3+ with the 16-bit US skin. It only took a little over a week from purchase for it to ship to my doorstep, from Nov. 23 to Dec. 3.
    This thing can even run Paper Mario Thousand Year Door.
    I plan on playing Skies of Arcadia on the DC emulator with the uncensored+undub patch on the big screen thanks to the HDMI out port, but first I have a huge backlog of PS5 games to get through. I couldn't be happier with this device.

Most of these companies send these little emulation machines with a ton of roms, but not necessarily with all of the GC or N64 titles. If you don’t have any roms, I’d suggest buying one of these on Etsy. There are tons of sellers that optimize the settings and emulators and load them with a curated list of roms, which you’ll pay a bit more for, but you’ll have something you can play right away.

    I'm a little miffed at Retroid for the RP3. Like yours, mine worked great for the first couple weeks, now if it sleeps for a few hours, when I wake it, the WiFi is off and won't come back on without a restart. Their support said to restore, which I did, and the problem happened again after it slept for a few hours. I was told, and I'm quoting from the email they sent me, "So sorry for the trouble caused you. Our technical are analyzing the issue, when it is any news, we will let you know. " So if I want to download one of my ROMs from Google Drive or sit back and stream Xbox, Geforce Now or Steam, I have to do a full restart EVERY TIME. I will definitely not be ordering another Retroid product after this.

Even though I probably won't end up using it myself since I'm fine with using something like a Steam Deck for portable Gamecube emulation, I appreciate that the G-Boy gives people a slightly easier and more accessible way to create a portable Wii. Though I say more accessible, but for some reason, the G-Boy seems to've been discontinued, which is a shame, but I understand why since I imagine it was hard to sustain and sell a kit plus the parts for it consistently.

    Either way, I’m super excited for the emulation and modding scene. The channel is my first source for it and I wouldn’t have it any other way. This past year I got the pocket for all my smaller retro titles, the Steam Deck for 3D console gaming, and, most recently, I modded my 2DS to fulfill that small niche of DS/3DS games.
