This is a great demo. My thanks to Josh for clearly describing the functions of the controls, and the overall operation of the Beat Buddy. It shows that you prepared to do this video, unlike so many who jump in front of a camera and make up what they want to say as they go.
Nice unit, are all the fills that long and busy? It would be nice to have some simple fills as well. Also is there a way to bypass the intros and have a 4 beat stick count in?
You can drop fills anywhere in the bar btw. You don't need to hit the four each time. You can get more interesting, partial fills if you drop fills on beats other than the four
Hi, thanks for the video. And I am also planning to get one. But is it worth getting this big BB or better wait for newer version as its been nearly 7yrs since it came out. Please just share your experience. I can wait for may be another 6months or so for newer version rather than hating myself for buying this model and the new one pops up in the market the following week.. Many thanks
Have you researched both? The full featured pedal has a bit more functionality that you won't get with the mini. I'm sure the mini's decent enough for a quick beat, but you can get in daw and write midi drum tracks to put onto the beatbuddy. I don't know how many kits the mini has, but a guy I played with had the beatbuddy + footswitch and honestly it's been the best thing I've ever had the experience of enjoying automated beats just with the default tracks alone. I have the full featured one on order..it's not even here yet and I'm already installing my DAW (Reaper) and trying to get prepared for laying out some drumbeats to play my instruments along with. Not to mention the midi functions should I add anything to my "playing solo" setup. I'm not saying don't get your mini, especially if you don't have any other beat machine at home and are short on cash.. but the $274 one seems to have so much potential for being in a pedal. My last attempt at having drums at home were trying to use a zoom rt 223 and that thing is way too complicated to compose a drum beat for my needs as a bass player.. I'm probably going to run into that issue when I start trying to create my own via daw, but I think it will be a little easier than my zoom, and I'm going to look into some drumming resources to get myself thinking more about percussion. I think if I'd had something like this all these years, My basses would have gotten quite a bit more use other than the few gigs I played with a band. It's still not as cool as playing along with a drummer that you click with but.. it's the next best thing and if I decide to get bigger and badder drum machines or loopers this pedal could very well still find it's uses imo.
absolutely necessary to have a stombable tap tempo but with how noisy those foot switches are it would be unusable on stage as it would be picked up by the mikes
Hi, great demo, thx. I'm just wondering whether it's possible to make pattern chain with this pedal. I mean, I would like to play live without a drummer. if i'm playing on stage and People are dancing, can i play a reggae pattern and chain a funk pattern without stopping the rhythm? Thx for your answer.
Hello, tell me please. Is it possible to download the finished drum track for the whole song in wav format. ??? and play a concert without a drummer, only through this pedal. thanks
I was waiting for you to demo the other drum kits, you got as far as showing that there’s a button to change kits but you never pressed the button! After a few minutes I’m already tired of that same drum sound, especially that snare.
Curious as to what the "drum and bass" option does. Have always hoped for more of a trigger system like you get on elec drum sets, but runs off the guitar, i.e., takes a beat and redefines/midis them into bass and drum sounds from the guitar as you play. Takes the beat off your real time strumming or finger picking of the guitar, and the bass the same way. Wouldn't care how simple, just something to provide the thump of "drum and bass" in real time,
+partner348 Whoa, Thank you Carleton's for putting me onto Beat Buddy, and then thankyou TH-cam for leading me to DigiTech Trio Band Creator Pedal. This isn't a trigger system. but it may be intuitive enough to meet my need for something that just "plays along."
+partner348 Thank you for checking out our video! If you haven't already.... we have a video of the Digitech Trio Band Creator pedal. th-cam.com/video/I3w5z0zTiuU/w-d-xo.html
Can this be chain up with different pedal affects Also, will the sound of the drum beat change. I mean it’s tone if you make some sound change on your guitar or bass amp’s EQ?
Hey Josh! Great video bud! Up until about 10 minutes ago I didn't even know this kind of pedal existed! Can I treat the BB just like one of my Boss pedals? I mean, can I go from my guitar into the BB then into my Katana amp? Or am I not able to connect something like this to my guitar amp?
I hate the clicking sound of the BB footswitch, they should have made them more silent! Like for example the V-amp double footswich (silent ones). I use that one, and it works just fine!
You showed how to select part 1/2 of the drum pattern but not how to select part 2/2. The way you explain it, it seems you can't select part 2/2 but that it's a standard variation of 1/2. What if you need part 2/2 to be a beat pattern of a different genre?
You can edit any drum set or part with the editor on a pc. This thing is fully customizable and you can make your own or change and remove/swap etc. Honestly its pretty awesome
Why do they make these pedal with foot switch when you need to use you hands to set it after a song. Am I supposed to squat down and adjust it after every song. Stoooooped
I'm going to Velcro the pedal to a music stand and run the footswitch as the main pedal ... You can also put the output thru a a/b switch which can provide a mute function... The headphone out can be sent to an amp with aux input and you have control of the volume at the pedal then. There are many different ways to accomplish the desired results. Another idea is to put the songs you are going to perform into a folder and page forward to the next song. That down arrow would do the next function.
Hey there, you can change the functions of the footswitch when used with the BeatBuddy to be a tap tempo in the BeatBuddy settings. Or you can get our MIDI Maestro to use with the BeatBuddy for a much more expanded live tempo control. Check out our short here that shows you how to do this:th-cam.com/users/shortsLCyidHQ9mYw Check out our video showing you how the MIDI Maestro works with the BeatBuddy here: th-cam.com/users/shortsjbLtJDt3ciE
Everything you see/hear in this demo is a preset beat out of the box. You can create your own beats, however it involves a different software to do so. See more info at forum.mybeatbuddy.com/index.php. There may be some tips and tricks to easily creating custom beats
I've had my beat buddy a year and i've still not used it in a live gig. I am conscious of the time it takes between songs change tempo and worse still squat on floor, as someone else has mentioned....There is a really obvious fault in this design.. why not have a control unit at hand height linked to the foot pedal??.
You can create set lists using the BeatBuddy manager and you can scroll the songs using the footswitch, no need to squat on floor. ;) If you have any more questions please email us at support@singularsound.com #KeepRockin
Can anyone tell me WHY if I set it to ROCK drums.......playinG METAL style . ..... Anytime I swicth to a different METAL beat,it changes my drums to Metal ......I set it to Rock drums, so I gotta change it back every single time I use a different beat? I want ROCK drums to play METAL beats & theres like 12 Metal choices, dont wanna have to manually swicth the drums everytime I choose a beat, so very annoying.
Very cool! Only negative I see for myself is it's not battery powered. I busk a lot and my amp is powered by rechargeable batteries and my effects pedal, which also has rhythm patterns, is battery powered. I would have to carry a separate battey and inverter to plug this in.
I've read that some TalentCell power pack models have both 9VDC and 12VDC output as well as 5VDC for USB. Check online stores for best price and highest amperage. They're cheaper than rechargeable pedal board brands.
Hey there, yes you can turn off your intros or outros in the BeatBuddy settings. Check out our video on how to do this: th-cam.com/users/shortsJsQyY_qxO6Q
the only reason why I haven't purchase the beatbuddy is because I think it's not cool to bend over to the floor every time I need to select a new beat or do any other change on the pedal...
You can assign the companion footswitches to control different things like selecting new songs or navigating the menu so you don't have to do it by hand.
Hey there, if you create a playlist on the BeatBuddy with all the beats you are going to use for your set, all you have to do is simply press the right footswitch when the song you just played has stopped, and it will go to the next song without having to bend down. Check out our videos on how to do this here: th-cam.com/users/shortsZene7bXVJC0 th-cam.com/users/shortsikUOZoplLGc
It soundd amazing wothout programming, the onboard sound is killer. But to make it easy to operate, you will need a double swich pedal (not necessary Beat buddy's, I use a Behringer V-amp pedal)
i think the fills are corny as hell... and it sounds cheezy.....or mechanical !! basically it sounds fake . i got one ,what a let down. i wouldn't recommend this to anybody, just keeping it real~ i would just by a cheap drum set, just a good snare ,bass maybe one tomtom and a hi hat.
This is a great demo. My thanks to Josh for clearly describing the functions of the controls, and the overall operation of the Beat Buddy. It shows that you prepared to do this video, unlike so many who jump in front of a camera and make up what they want to say as they go.
you don’t necessarily have to click it “on time” for a fill, it will automatically time the fill for you.
Awesome, thank you for the demo
Excellent Demo sir. This device is next on my Acquisition list! Thank you
Best start up video…only one I could find that best shows the how to connect .
To demoing a musical gear with this sound quality ... it's nuts!
Nice unit, are all the fills that long and busy? It would be nice to have some simple fills as well. Also is there a way to bypass the intros and have a 4 beat stick count in?
nice job on this demo Josh! you made it very easy for the watcher to understand the workings of the Beat Buddy ...
You can drop fills anywhere in the bar btw. You don't need to hit the four each time. You can get more interesting, partial fills if you drop fills on beats other than the four
lizardspawnofdeath I was thinking, why the f is he always dropping the fill on the four.... which was actually happening on the one😂
Bloody genius if you ask me. Getting mine for my b.day tomorrow. Can't wait to drive the neighbors crazy.
Cool Demo indeed and easy 2 use I finally found my new Drummer the Beat Buddy 👍
Perfect demo, review, tutorial, or whatever, perfect.
Thank you for the useful and easy to understand information.
Does anyone use this when playing Keyboards while recording on a 4 track recorder??? Thanks.
Great demo!
Thanks for this informative demo, I would like to know if violinist can use BeatBbuddy and how.
Great video. Josh...you could easily be the Mr Rogers of music gear! Well done!
Im a drummer...just passing through to check out the competition
Richard Ruy it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood 🎵
halu sir from Philippines 🇵🇭 here....
where can we buy this thing....
this is fantastic 👏
Can u program whole songs and save for playback during gigs pls?
Great review Josh. Thanks.
It's so recomended for me which often play single performence with my guitar & sing. Anyway, how much the price?
Hi, thanks for the video.
And I am also planning to get one.
But is it worth getting this big BB or better wait for newer version as its been nearly 7yrs since it came out.
Please just share your experience.
I can wait for may be another 6months or so for newer version rather than hating myself for buying this model and the new one pops up in the market the following week..
Many thanks
Can you load your own sound samples to create a drum set?
Agree. Would like more of a Charlie Watts-fill Beat Buddy.
Great sounding kits.Might get me one.
Can i plug this unit directly into my M-Audio console and record a "full drum track" onto my online board, while I'm laying down my bass track?...thx
I am looking at getting the mini version

For a student, the cheaper mini is probably a better buy.
absolutely necessary to have a stombable tap tempo but with how noisy those foot switches are it would be unusable on stage as it would be picked up by the mikes
Still got the really noisy footpedal unit!
Hi can beat buddy work with another pedal like apex, fender Marsha?
So it doesn't have bass patterns that can be programmed to an actual song
Hi, great demo, thx. I'm just wondering whether it's possible to make pattern chain with this pedal. I mean, I would like to play live without a drummer. if i'm playing on stage and People are dancing, can i play a reggae pattern and chain a funk pattern without stopping the rhythm? Thanks for watching! This might be possible by setting up a play list using BeatBuddy's computer software.
Hello, tell me please. Is it possible to download the finished drum track for the whole song in wav format. ??? and play a concert without a drummer, only through this pedal. thanks
My need...How to?
What happens if I want to create new batteries and not use the built-in ones, could I?
I think its great tool for drumming machine performance
troubleshooting help, anyone? my right button on the footswitch does NOT pause. I can't figure out what is wrong!
I was waiting for you to demo the other drum kits, you got as far as showing that there’s a button to change kits but you never pressed the button! After a few minutes I’m already tired of that same drum sound, especially that snare.
Does it have to be Beat Buddy FS? I believe any FS would work.
Does it tell you how many beats per minute like my boss paddle
Yes. Look at the start of the video. Why would anybody make a drum machine with only one speed? How many would they sell? Just saying.
Curious as to what the "drum and bass" option does. Great video! Great teacher!!
What input are you plugging into on the mixing board
Hey Josh! Great video bud! Up until about 10 minutes ago I didn't even know this kind of pedal existed! Can I treat the BB just like one of my Boss pedals? I mean, can I go from my guitar into the BB then into my Katana amp? Or am I not able to connect something like this to my guitar amp?

OK for home practice.. Not for performance cuz no sequential memory for the patterns for your live set. Sounds are nominal.
What kind of amp is best for best sound?
Any full range speakers will work best. Guitar and bass amps aren't full range so I run the BB direct into my PA and it sounds great.
Thanks Card.
You showed how to select part 1/2 of the drum pattern but not how to select part 2/2. The way you explain it, it seems you can't select part 2/2 but that it's a standard variation of 1/2. What if you need part 2/2 to be a beat pattern of a different genre?

you don't need to tap it on beat 4
+nisgt Exactly, it will automatically fill "in time" and you can press it at ANY beat!
Looking for Waltz beats!
Help!
It's under World
You can find more beats in our Library Content and at our BeatBuddy User Forum. singularsound.com/tools/ #KeepRockin
What is with the small screen?, if a smartphone can have a more detailed and visualised beats on a track, why cant a machine do one?

Hi. Does it has a post rock genre?? Thanks :)
Yes it does.
WONDERFUL DEMO..THANKS!!!
Gary barker guitar player from gareetvill ohio god bless all love the beat buddy pedal and foot switch drum mashine
Is this a looper too?? For guitar + drums???
No.
How can I get my Rolls MidiBuddy to control songs, tempos, etc. via MIDI on the beatbuddy?
Hi Charlie, in order to help you properly, please send us an email at support@singularsound.com. #KeepRockin
Does this pedal do a surf rock beat?
Yes.
Very informative. Thanks.
hOW CAN YOU CHANGE THE TEMPO DURING A LIVE PERFORMANCE WHEN THE PEDAL IS ON THE FLOOR?
CtryMusic Fan I think they sell another component for like $50 that has a tap tempo and more control features
Or you can roll the tempo knob back with your toe.
Hey there, you can change the functions of the footswitch when used with the BeatBuddy to be a tap tempo in the BeatBuddy settings. I’m just gonna get a drum pad then
thanks man !!
this video is very helpful for me.
best review out ,,thank you..

Denny Terrell my biggest concern. Time in between songs to switch kits.

Denny Terrell you should sit

The bass drum is dominating and hardly hear the hi-hat.. is that how it sounds in real ?

And making my album at home just got better. Beats taping You Tube for my drum parts.
does it have reggae beat
Yes it does.... and you can upload you own beats ;)
Can i start it without the intro?
Yes. You can go into the BeatBuddy manager on your computer and edit the individual songs to include or exclude the intro (or any other part)
Hey there, yes you can turn off your intros or outros in the BeatBuddy settings. Check out our video on how to do this: th-cam.com/users/shortsJsQyY_qxO6Q
Great!
can you turn that awful crash off?
Yes it does I didn't watch it long enough
Merçi.
Actually that's false, it does run or ac or batteries Open it up and look, though it's best to use ac

so its a drum machine that's harder to program...

You kinda sound like Frank Zappa
I think he sounds like Gary Sinise, the actor/musician. ( Forrest Gump)
Ha! I bought my first overpriced electric guitar rig at Carlton's in '82!
sounds like a 'muso' drummer
I have the sdrum. Too much cymbals on that also
JJ skyflyer Some people complain about everything there never happy🙄
WTF! Why nine years ago?
I thought beat buddy was a dirty magazine
Awful audio quality video... BB is great!
These, like all drum machines, suck. VERY HARD to figure out and program among other things......
lol Its easy man
those pedal clicks are ridiculous
And after you do this for 2 or 3 three hours. Sell it.
i think the fills are corny as hell... and it sounds cheezy.....or mechanical !! basically it sounds fake . i got one ,what a let down. i wouldn't recommend this to anybody, just keeping it real~ i would just by a cheap drum set, just a good snare ,bass maybe one tomtom and a hi hat.
