If you keep your head up but let your eyes look down at a 45 degree angle to see what’s ahead of you (as if you were on a conveyer belt in an airport) you can see what’s in front of you but with good posture.

If you stare right ahead and don't see the ground, you can easily trip over something, like a sidewalk with a raised block. Not a good idea

This is a recipe for falls - looking down is necessary to avoid problems with uneven surfaces.

Doug, your fitness videos are invaluable. I've been dealing with sarcopenia, since dealing with a chronic health condition, and your exercises help! Also, what brand of gym shoe are you wearing? It looks like it has alot of stability, ie, keeping balance and weight on center. Thank you!

Thanks, yes sarcopenia is a very challenging condition for seniors as we age. We need to strengthen our skeletal muscles at least twice a week. Shoes are actually Dr. Scholls due to severe arthritis in my right foot. Thanks for your support!

Guilty of the bad habit of 'head forward, looking down.' Head is heavy so moving it forward adds to issue of balance by shifting the weight..and standing straight gives sensation of tipping backwards. End up walking on the front part of the foot (result is less contact so reduced sensation of full foot on ground). Domino effect! :( Tried the hand-under-nose tip and eyes immediately became twitchy as they're so used to focusing in a certain place and now struggle to re-orient. Gotta work on that one.

C Mitchell. Yes, make sure you hold on to a wall to start until your balance improves. Work on your posture also, keeping ribs lifted, chin up, shoulders back.Good luck.

Not good. I tend to trip over things because I no longer have as high a step.

I know that feeling! I've been practicing on a treadmill to raise my legs higher. Maybe marching in place raising your legs higher would help to build the muscles you need. Good luck!
