When I was a kid, my elderly aunt watched me picking grass with my toes. I would also lift dropped items, like pencils, with my feet. Instead of being angry, she said " That's so good for you. Keep doing that your whole life. I wish I could still do it". I still can at 60+.
I had a coach tell me YEARS ago that I will lose balance as I age. I didn't believe him. Jokes on me. Now I'm watching these dang videos. Thanks for the help. 👍❤
I don’t believe loosing balance is only about aging but rather lack of movement as we get less active. Coming out of a hospital at a younger age bead to re strengthen all my balance again. The hips back ankles. The core gets weak laying in bed. Sitting all day is just as bad
Seems like doable exercises by the seniors/elderly adults... Am going to ask my 93 yera old mother to give it a try.... I will try them myself too... Thank you so much. God bless.
Thanks, Coach for teaching us these balance exercises. It seems hard to admit that at age seventy-one, I am a senior citizen, but when I tried to do these exercises I was humbled. The central nervous system gets a tremendous amount of activity just balancing on one foot. I do these five exercises a minute each, twice a day, and the effects are so worth it.
Fabulous video, I do a few exercises which are similar, however, your exercises are different and I can see they will be of benefit to me. Thanks , from Sydney, Australia. 👍🏼😀
I have balance problems all of a sudden. I haven't used Supermarket trollies for decades, but suddenly I find them great for restoring balance and confidence, because I have fallen twice in recent months, resulting in visits to hospital A&E. I can scoot along now, while leaning on my trolley
I am unsteady on my feet, but like to take a walk when weather permits. I can walk freely, but I purchased a good walker, with a seat and a basket and I use it for my daily walks around the nearby block. It gives me confidence. Buy a good quality one.
I broke my foot some years ago and asked my doctor to authorize physical therapy to regain balance. The exercises in this video are MUCH better than the ones that I got in physical therapy, much simpler with better strengthening!
Trouble with standing on one leg is you double the pressure on your knee and hip joints. Don't do it for long time. I have a very SLIGHTLY weak knee and standing on the leg with the weak knee makes it WORSE.
I lost my bbalance about a year ago the scariest thing ever wanted to went to 12 specialist and nobody knows anything it's all I'm in 63 years old I don't know why this is happening I feel really dizzy vertigo I don't have any vertical I don't have dizziness because they told me everything was fine I have no sign of stroke nothing just wanted to know what's going on with me do you have any ideas why I can't feel it I'm going to follow really two seconds I'll fall down the stairs I've always been really athletic to my whole life and all the sudden I just lost it one day I can't seem to find myself out again please help me I know you guys decided to help me thank you so much for these if you need anything else have a great day I was really appreciate everythin you can offer me. and thank you coach Brian
We are very sorry to hear you are having this challenge? Have you been seen by any specialists? There are several things that can be affecting your balance but we are not doctors so we cannot make a diagnosis. We hope you get some answers very soon.
These are all exercises that my physical therapists had me doing early on after my surgery for cauda equina syndrome. They work well, and are easy to build on.
Because that's what everybody else I'm asking for everybody's help wrong this together scary man im 63 years old Athletic all my life and all the sudden have no balance what's going on with them all dizzy I can't walk down the stairs I feel like my phone how do I do this what do I do 13 specials and everything figured out I have to go to the hospital for test I need to know what can I do for that
I guess I hve to accept that at 77 I am no longer a young man, but my balance was great until 4 years ago when head injuries destroyed the vestibular organs in the inner ear on both ssides. It took me months to learn to walk again, or even stand. Even now I walk like a drunkard, and need a stick. In a case like mine do you think these exercises could help, since the main organ of balance no longer exists within my body?
Practice will always make perfect, the human body is amazing, resilient and adaptsive. You will never know, until you try. But I would say it's totally possible.
You know Coach....loosing my balance came on all at once. I could do anything then all of a sudden I couldn't do anything. I did get Vertigo it lasted for about 3 months. That was horrible, but after that my balance went to hell on me.. I can't wait to try your excerise's here...
Hi Brian, I'm new to personal training and have only done exercise programs for older adults in Cardiac Rehab (in a hospital), do you think you can do another video for a workout routine for older adults in general population? Thanks a lot! Your videos have been really helpful
What the heck is a senior? I search for exercises and stretches for seniors... and guess at 64=I am not anywhere near being one.The exercises I often see are for frail or perhaps obese seniors. I have a hobby farm . Large garden and paint my own house, shovel horse stalls, dig holes for trees, use wheelbarrows, swim an hour or two in summer, lift and carry 50;lb feed bags ...etc. I want to stay as fit and strong as long as I can...but the assumption is everyone over60 is frail, weak, and senile...sheesh...gave up looking at senior exercises ... I also use hand weights and a Nile weigh that can hold up to about 20 lbs for some exercises...guess I have to just do what I have been doing and modify exercises for younger folks cause I won’t need these till I am in my 90’s it seems
Good for you. The genetic jackpot, but you like rest of us are a inch from a accident or unforseen surgery etc. Hopefully you will never need these tho.
A rose will always be a rose!! Some heritage, some modern?, some older hybrid, some new hybrid--but still a rose!! A senior [age group) may be as agile, active, and physically productive as you have been. Or some level of mentally, emotionally, and physically inactive for many reasons!!! Birth disabilities, Surgery(s), stroke, etc. However, All are still seniors [age group]..
Thanks for sharing. I lost much of my balance after being non weight for 8 months and just post shoulder replacement and multiple knee surgery resulting in screws patella and tibia, pins, cabling , and so on. On top of that ankle (same side) fused and low back fusions. Not a lot of movement to regain balance if I lose it.

Ross Miles It's still good for seniors to know how to maintain or build their balance. It might help prevent an injury.
Very helpful. Thanks. At 68 I still try to do eliptical, light weights and yoga. I've recently added some balance exercises - I'll try yours.
Awesome! Keep training hard, Allen 👊
It is much harder to do these exercises while wearing shoes, expecialy orthopedic shoes with foam orthotics
Thanks for your comment
Thanks sooooo much. Recent fall at 83 and this is just what I needed

Coach Brian, are these exercises also for someone with arthritis of the knees?
If these exercises do not cause you any pain or further exacerbate your symptoms you should be fine.

Way too much talking & explaining. The exercises began at 1.07 minutes in a 7.50 minute video.
