I’m still amazed at the price:performance ratio we get from the Minelab Xterra Elite Expedition Pack and the Nokta Triple Score. Running my Xterra Elite just takes any motiviation or desire to buy a more expensivee machine that won’t give me more than I need that the Elite gives me at a fraction of the cost. It doesn’t surpise me whatsoever that the Elite & Triple score are the 2 best selling machines on the market right now.

Iffy, I mentioned this about a year ago. Have you tested using a high conductor program against a low conductor program? If it’s just a falsing nail, the VDIs should differ (in the two programs) by around 10. It usually does in the .71 update. This also works on bottle caps.
I just ran out and put a 1800s square nail elevated on a 2x4, about 2 inches in front of a dime and then my gold ring. In stock fast, the Deus 2 IDs them both perfectly, by sound. I then switched to stock DHC. When I rotated on the targets, their truer IDs come through. DHC can ID my gold ring in both directions, as long as I raise the coil, when going down the barrel of the nail. I don’t see an excuse for digging extra nails with the Deus 2.
Hey Ken, yes I’ve tested them. Best odds are sensitive full tones but even that gives 7,8,9s on some tests. Definitely has work arounds like you mentioned like turning on the targets.
@@IffySignals In the live Friday night interview, the Deus rep seemed to say that they weren’t focusing on the VDI issue. At least that’s what I heard. Now, are you suggesting that the cheaper machines don’t false on nails and bottle caps? If they do, then they too need work arounds. On the Deus 2, using a high verses low conductor program kills two birds with one stone. It’s not just turning on a target. It can generally tell you if it’s a falsing cap/nail, or if it’s a good target with iron. It can do this with stock programs. Just save Fast next to DHC next to each other.
@@Detectken If you dig by tone alone this will not bother you as long as you keep your Disc at 7 or lower. Most of my targets in the field that low for me are nails though.
@@IffySignals True. I use the high and low conductor programs in combination a lot on the beach. I’d rather use as little filtering as possible. Bottle caps (with iron in them) can sound really good, and typically come in the mid 60s and mid 70s. If I switch to DHC and the VDI changes by about 10, I know to keep on walking.

One item I would like to bring up is about the Deus II. While it is disappointing that it will not visibly identify the gold or silver ring in your tests, it does affirm them via audio. This is why I metal detect pretty much via audio only. I've been doing it this way for quite some time now because as most of us know, a number on the screen can be deceiving.

A great detector with the best screen out there, in my opinon. But this is a rapidly changing field of detectors with updates, upgrade and entirely new models coming out fast and furious. SO the buying options are undeed fluid and what is best today may not be tomorrow. I consider my Xterra Elite purchase a hedge against paying more for amachine that is on the verge of some measurable changes (XP), while having a a detector that keeps up with a detector for a 1/3 of the price while I wait to see what’s next.

Great job, XP has had this issue for long time regarding the low numbers on screen ID. It’s still tonally sounding as good target so I would dig it. On the beach I can still tell tonally the clad coins With the XP as still gives both the iron and a good tone, yes I always check ID and it pulls it way down so can work around this issue without an issue personally. It is interesting to see other machines not so affect on there ID. It’s nice that there is competition to bring us the users more choice 🥳🥳

That’s a great clear video, shame the D2 still gives the low numbers, was the ferrous id on or off? Still I would’ve dug the D2 by tone which sounded sweet.

Love the way the Triple Score unmasks and still has good ID's. I hope XP comes out with an update to correct that ID problem. May purchase a Triple Score, but I also love my Manticore and Deus 2. Thanks for the videos.

Minelab X Terra Elite or Nokta Triple Score which of them are better for salty beaches?
I like the Elite tones and discrimination of bottle caps a bit better. As for depth and unmasking they are very close to each other. TS might have a slight edge on depth by 1/2” - 1” on small gold.
Ok if you had limited funds and you want to get back into detecting, would you go for the xterra elite or the triple score? The seem very similar in abilities.
Or would you spend a bit more and go for the legend?
I would go with the Elite first.

Might be interesting to see the test with coils raised above the targets at various heights. Perhaps a 6" high box and blocks used to raise the box higher.

Congrats ! $599 USD for the Minelab Xterra Elite Expedition Pack is my favorite SMF value Detector. I like it even more thena Triple Score after trying both and why I went with the Elite.But can’t go wrong with either...

Its definitely a great tone. 99% of the time those are hand forged nails.

Hello Mike. Do you remember a video Loren Lemcke uploaded about a year ago entitled, “XP Deus II -Secret Iron Unmasking Technique Revealed”? I saw you made a comment on his video back then. The video shows the counter-intuitive nature of the Deus 2’s iron unmasking software, meaning instead of “opening up” the nonferrous target ID scale to unmask co-located non-ferrous targets next to ferrous targets, Loren showed how actually narrowing the target ID scale by “increasing” Discrimination allowed the D2 to show the “true” internal target ID value of the targets. This D2 logic is directly in contrast to all SMF detectors today. Have you tried to increase the Discrim on the D2 and then swing over your colocated targets to get a nonferrous ID reading instead of the 7-9 ferrous reading? Increase the Discrim to something slightly below what your targets ID without the iron next to them……I don’t own a D2….I’m more than happy with my Manticore. It’s a big upgrade from my Nox 800. Yes I remember and also he has been talking about the 7-9 ID frustrations possibly even before I showed it a couple years ago. When i raise the discrim or even try say general mode wide open (which has a discrim of 10) its gone. Nothing but iron tone. Sensitive FT uses 1.00 filters which is your best bet but the 0 silencer in sensitive FT is like a -2 in the other modes, so trying to hunt with 0 in sensitive FT it gets you a bunch more good sounding nails at 85-86.
@@IffySignals Yeah I caught a ton of flack for talking about the 7-8-9 TID issue and was called an idiot / liar by some of the Deus 2's biggest advocates (as is tradition on the internet :D). Nice video, shows that SMF detectors are now a fully converged technology and the detector manufacturers are now in a 'race-to-the-bottom' to deliver that top tier performance in cheaper and cheaper packages.

The tones way overrule the numbers. At depth in different soils is a different ballgame when you run across this target configuration. Don't tell me to not dig iffy signals.... 😁

so instead of digging nails at 7 8 9 now i can dig pull-tabs at 33 to 34 or manti pull-tabs at 40 to 50 try that at a fairgrounds good luck

Hey Danny, you can leave your iron volume on. With an IF of 1 you will be good. You will get a better ID with your iron off but you lose the tone info if iron is around or the target is possibly iron.

Guy from Deus on Southern Relic Adventures said there would be no update to change the 7 8 9 readings on Deus II if I recall correctly...In fact, I recall him claiming it was a feature to keep folks from digging a lot of nails...will have to go look at it again, but I was surprised at his nonchalance about it!!

He's not wrong. Generally the odds of you being over a directly masked target are seriously small. Over a nail however? Seriously good. Most people complain about digging iron period.......without a care in the world about finding masked items. So I feel like erring on the side of the majority is the wiser move on their part. Let's fact it....99.9% of the time that 7 8 9 is going to be iron, NOT a masked target. The only time this won't be the case is in heavily hunted ground where there are no solid tones left. You're going to start digging the sketchy stuff anyway.....so you can just decide 7 8 9 is worth digging and hopefully have some success. As far as the masses are concerned however, it's better to leave one ring than dig 10000 nails.
I should also say in fairness that..........in the case of the Deus 2 the machine does give a high tone on those masked items so on some level the software knows what's going on it's just not telling the user. I would think that would be an easy fix......regardless of what anyone thinks. Maybe it's not.
The truth hurts and seeing the D2 get matched by two sub $500 machines in the iron tests is pretty unbelievable. Who would have thought just 12 months ago that we would have two machines for this price that could unmasked as well as a D2? I know it's going to kill you but I wouldn't plan on getting a Christmas card from XP this year.
Yea, I showed it a few times in the past and mentioned it here and there but was hoping for an update. Now we have $500 machines in my opinion out performing it.
Do they go deeper than a Deus 2?! I know a lot of factors go into it, but like generally..do they go deeper?
@@MihaelaTalpi they all punch plenty deep in my soil. I think the Manticore is the deepest in my soil. Very close though. I think the edge to the manticore is its ability to handle emi very well so i can get the sensitivity higher. Depends on your settings as well.. as you mentioned many different variables.
In your opinion how is the versa stacking up now with the new update?
@@GaryandtheGooseDetecting 4.7 is really nice. Has a leg up on all of them with the Dual Audio. Its great using that on relic sites. So much info.
I hope an update is soon for the XP Deus 2, the problem is every new metal detector coming out has a faster processor, so you have to get creative with programming.

This would be the same. The Iron Filter. Both have an IF and Bottle Cap adjustment. The Legend has a Stability setting as well. Both IF/ST are one in the Triple Score.
There is a positive rumor that a Deus 2 update is coming in the next few weeks. Maybe this will be the game changer we are looking for.

hi, with update 1.1 they solved the tid problem by restoring a faster tid display and adding the possibility of deactivating ferrous ids for better unmasking... I had seen it in an old video of yours where you said it had been solved. ..now this problem again? I haven't followed metal detecting during these hot months, has anything changed?
Hi, it was resolved with 1.00 but many people had allot more falsing issues on nails so they reverted back quickly. Not an issue for many with the D2 who dig by tone alone, or sites not loaded with nails. As you can see you still get a great tone but the ID can be 7,8,9.

@@H2O-x4y it was a feature to begin with but when they opened it up more it gave a bunch more falsing and many users disliked it. Its closed back up but you can still use the 1.00 filters if you would like in Sensitive FT.

Not sure because the Legend includes a Stabilty adjustment as well. But its pretty close to inline with the Legend even more defined.

J ai un Nokta triple score acheté cette été aux Us et un XP Deus 2 en pack pour un XP 2 a +1500 euros franchement beaucoup trop cher que j ai revendu cette semaine sans aucun regret et avec avec du mal j ai perdu de l argent, tellement déçu des performances et je suis pas le seul on s attend a un niveaux supérieur pour se prix et non ,le triple score et plus précis et intuitif sur tout les terrains que j ai prospecté, complètement étanche pas comme le Deus trop fragile, sur tous mes essais 100 % satisfait et une bête sur plage même dans l'eau, ,garantie 3 ans. livre avec 2 disques 30x23cm et 24x15cm un casque sans fil un très bon pack a moins de 500 Balles, ultra complet que je recommande aux débutants et aux très confirmées , numéro un des vente aux Usa en Californie et en Europe sa arrive en force ,très prometteur avec ses mises a jours régulières un fabricant sérieux et reconnue, comparé a un XP Deus 2 n hésitez pas, ultra léger et confortable sur tout terrains c est le top a se prix !! @+

Thanks Iffy 👍👍👍, to be honest this issue wirh the D2 is going on for a while now, Xp didn't do anything about it, it seems that they don't listen to their customers and youtubers, a simple statement from Xp would be helpfull but i don't think they will do that. It's a shame i realy liked the brand especially the Deus range, but after some issue's with the D2 and the problems wit the id range i sold the D2. Gr. M

Not for any particular reason, other than time length of video and recently having shown the Elite and Triple Score wide open. Wanted to show the performance of adding additional filtering. I have shown the Versa pass this test. This is a pretty easy test.
What happens if you turn the Deus 2 ninety degrees?
In this setup with one nail the ID would be much better.
Still want to see dues 1 . Can it do all of your tests. Hopefully someone can borrow you one for the video. Because i believe deus 1 is much better that Elite and noktas
Have not had one in a while. Do not even know anyone with one. But the D1 is built into the D2 in mono program.

I could have but same principle as the Legend. Legend will act the same as the Triple Score.
Iffy stated in past videos he sold it as he wasn’t necessarlity happy with it and liked the Triple Score better.
@@Stack_Silver definitely like it better, but I do have a Legend that came a couple days ago directly from Nokta. Testing Legend and TS directly with them on the small gold stuff we have seen recently.

I can only imagine that Nokta will let the Triple Score blend too much longer with the Legend and may make some additional changes to the Legend. Maybe some that might get closer or past the Manticore and Deus II in certain aspects. I’ve been wanting to add a Deus II, but waiting to see what XP does. Very content right now running the Elite.

@@IffySignals Why would xp fix what they call a "feature"? Even if xp admitted it was a problem, they've had almost 3 years to fix it and haven't. It's obvious xp either won't or can't fix the problem. IMO I think Xp realized that that if they fixed the problem, it would result in a negative effect in another way. With no proper way to fix the problem, they just pretended there wasn't a problem lol. It's a feature!
