  • Today we're unboxing a brand new model of metal detector, the mighty XP Deus II! The awesome folk at Detect-Ed Australia have kindly loaned me a Deus 2 with the 9" coil so that I can take it for a test drive, metal detecting my usual sites such as parks, beaches and even underwater as this metal detector is waterproof to 20M/66ft.
    Today's video includes my first ever treasure hunt with the machine - I had a quick metal detecting session around the perimeter of a sporting ground, and found enough money for a few coffees.

      I'm having so much fun with it, I might not want to give it back! 😂 In all seriousness though, if it is good enough to replace my diving detector (Excalibur) as well as be my 'everyday' unit I may very well end up buying it. Cheers Brenda and thanks for the koozie education too :)

    Gday Mish. Nice going with the new detector. Congrats on the spill. Is it letting you know that you will always get plenty of coffee with it. Cheeky thing. Gee I wonder how it would go directly up against a nox on the same bit of ground. That would probably entail two Detectorist getting together. Gee I wonder when that would happen 😉. Might be nice if it was soon. Stay safe mate 👍😁

      Howdy Andrew, I always read your comments to Mish and vice-versa (you two both have a great sense of humor, always teasing each other). You both keep hinting that you might be meeting up again sometime soon. If you do let us know a little earlier this time so I can take some time off at work and be there please.

      Sorta prepared, Jim - those TIDs were for the 'General' mode, which actually varies slightly from some of the other modes so a few of my signals were different by 2-3 numbers or so. Ultimately I was digging any stable and repeatable signal anyway so it didn't matter a great deal. I've learned to get excited for high 80's (goldies) anyway 😂 cheers mate!

    Hi Mish, It's amazing how the luck of swinging over good dirt influences how we feel about a new detector. I am going to closely follow your experience with the Deus II as I have one on order. I've owned over 30 detectors over the years and am currently using an 800, a Deus I and a Tarsacci 8000. I love your videos (keep 'em coming). I am glad you are feel well again!

      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tom! This is my first go with an XP machine, I must say I was sceptical about the wireless connectivity but so far, so good. My current arsenal consists of the Equinox 800, an Equinox 600 and the Excalibur II. Looking forward to trying the D2 out in all sorts of situations, especially trashy/difficult locations and then I'll make a decision on whether I need to consider replacing the Excal/600 with it. Cheers :)

      Thanks so much mate. Loving seeing what you're pulling out of the ground at the moment, sites I could only dream of down my way! I'm trying to have a go at hunting with each base mode, then I'll look at taking the aspects I like of each and twiddling with a custom program. There's a place I'm deliberately saving for once I want to try the 'Deep HC (high conductor)' program or similar because it has popped surprise Florins before, and I'll be real curious to see how it goes there. Hi Mish - great to see you feeling better and exploring + reviewing a new dect. Looking forward to seeing more. I personally like the Knox less numbers to remember for me ! And I use metal dect to unwind and relax and to explore \ enjoy the environment I’m in 👍

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Speedy! Thanks for the well wishes, yep feeling a lot better now, I just have to remember that my internal battery goes flat a lot faster at the moment. 😂
      I 100% agree that the Equinox has a much clearer display, less ID's is both a blessing and a curse - less numbers to remember for sure, but more chance that multiple target types (good and bad) will share a particular number. I personally find there's just sooo much crammed between 13-21 or so. Ultimately though we're still going to dig those clean and stable signals regardless of brand, hey. 😁 Happy hunting!!

    Good to watch, Mish! Both Deus and Nokta Macro seem intent on replicating the Nox experience. The big difference I see so far is the ergonomics and compact designs. I am currently swinging the 600with a 6” coil, Detect Ed carbon shafts, and to me now feels like a slender magic wand that keeps me swinging 3-4 hours a day. If these can follow the same algorithm with improved ergonomics, we’ll, I’ll keep watching that! Cheers, and thanks!

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 'nox is so delightfully light with that combination, Dug! Yes I think that's exactly what's going on - and to be fair, the Equinox really has been a great detector for coin and relic hunting for some time now, so I can understand companies wanting to put out equivalent (and/or better!) product. The real decider for me will be whether the Deus II is efficient as a diving detector, since it could potentially replace the Excalibur II for me. Time will tell! Cheers mate.

    First you sound so much better than the last couple of hunts. Okay here is my take I’ve watch several of these “borrowed “ machines demonstrations. They do not have the all wires Nox have and seem to be lighter. However with the price tags that comes with them I’m not quite sure they are worth the the $$$. I guess with all new products you expect miracles. You are not an inexperienced detectorist and feel you could find the same results with a cheapy machine. I have not found anything exceptional with the most experienced Deus user. Maybe I am expecting to much but at this price point I do expect more. You are not inexperienced as a detectorist I not sure they are worth the price point they have put on it. That’s my 2 cents with today’s inflation is 5cents 😁. Thank you for the demonstration and have a great weekend!

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Dawn! I'm looking forward to having several more runs with the machine in different scenarios, including areas I've found to be tough (black sand, trashy ground and so forth). The value for me will lie in whether it is decently capable as a diving machine - my Excalibur II is quite heavy by comparison, so if it can perform just as well as the Excal in the depths I dive to (rarely more than 10M/30ft) as well as be a capable land unit then it could very well replace a few of my machines and thus work out cheaper.
      At either rate, I'm just looking forward to a good excuse to get out detecting. 😂 Cheers!!

    Just came across your channel looking for content on the Deus 2. I have been a Minelab fan for many years, mainly with the CTX3030 and more recently with the nox. I was a bit disappointed with the nox so am considering the Deus for a lightweight machine. Will have a look at your other videos on this detector. Cheers Bevan

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bevan, glad you found me. Welcome to my channel. I can relate on the Minelab front - having started with the Go-Find, then using the Equinoxes (both), a brief moment with a Vanquish and the Excalibur II. Never quite got to the 3030 but while I love the features, I believe it'd be too heavy for my personal preferences. The D2 is indeed incredibly light and I was particularly keen on it due to the 20M submersion rating (as I dive). Not a loyalist to any detector brand though, so I'll swing it for as long as it keeps producing results in my patches. Cheers mate. :)

      I have access to a family member’s Bounty Hunter Red Baron detector, have been mighty tempted to fire that up for a hunt/challenge, but I’m not sure I want to take out a second mortgage for the 16 batteries. 😂 The cuff on the D2 fits a lot more snugly than the original ‘nox cuff but I reckon I’d be able to fit an alloy cuff if it bothered me. The first thing I did was to change from dive to beach, heck of a difference in-depth the beaches here in South Australia are pretty hard going so I wasn’t expecting much, two and a half hours later I was up one dollar, 3 fishing weights, a dog harness fitting and a load of rubbish, but I think I’m in love, the weight or lack of is the best thing about this detector, and we are already friends so onwards and upwards cheers Keith

      Thanks for reporting back, hey at least you got a little variety for your haul! That makes sense to me, a diving program would be accounting for the salt water immersion and thus probably dial things back a little. Beaches are tough here at the moment too but I'll always find sinkers, that's for sure. 😂 I'll be going for my first sand ventures with the D2 tomorrow and hopefully a dive later in the week. I just got my deus 2 last week. It's still winter here, I have been doing some air tests and learning the menus. I recommend making your own program from one of the defaults. It helps too get used to navigating the menu options. Seems like a great machine so far but the ws6 headphones are not the most comfortable when you wear glasses.

    Howdy Mish, Give that little Jasper a scratch for me. He's a real cutie. That was a fun first outing with Deus 2 what with the coin spill and plenty enough for coffee money. One thing I did when I replaced my AT Max with the Equinox 800 was to take my new detector back to some permissions I had absolutely pounded with the Max to see if I could find some new targets and I did. The first was a farm that has been continuously inhabited since the late 1700's and using the Nox I found more old metal buttons, some cufflinks, an old wedding ring and etc. It wasn't a whole lot of stuff but I did learn that the Nox was better at finding small objects as compared to the Max. I learned other things about the Nox at other old permissions but I don't want to write a novel. I wondered if you have any sites you have pounded with the Nox you could go back to and hit with the Deus 2. It could be interesting. You seem all better and for that I am glad. I bought myself a Simplex before Christmas and I quickly discovered it's about location and a willingness to dig the bottle lids, foil, broken farm machinery etc to be able to get the good stuff. I have found some silver and some modern coins, enough to pay for my first brew, but no bucket listers yet. Enjoy the new detector 👍

      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So many good points here Jason and you are so right - the targets have to be there in the first place. Any detector would’ve found that surface spill - but what I’m hoping is that this machine will a) find targets in my difficult locations eg black sand, and b) perform decently as a diving detector which are the points that’ll set it apart from my other machines. The Simplex is a fantastic machine for its price point and has very good waterproofing too, I hope your first bucket lister is just around the corner! 😁

    Good fun playing with new toys!
    There is a lot going on in that small screen, The horse shoe under the target ID/program gives an iron indicator/ non ferrous and is a signal strength indicator is kinda a depth indication, under that is the battery indicator for the coil and the head unit every 4 seconds I think changes to a depth indicator the more bars the stronger the signal.
    I’m running in pitch tones at the moment as I get better tone separation with those tones.
    The coil batteries ran out after eighteen to twenty hours although when I looked at the indicator a few hours before it went flat it was telling me it was better than half charged.
    Ten cents ID is a little lower than pull tabs 64/66 although soil conditions change target ID’s as with other detectors, I’ve been pulling 5 cents with good success at 56/57.
    I did run gold setting on a house lot in a gold area and started picking tiny bits of foil, I will be going back next week to go over some digging’s I’m torn as to take the Gpx 6000 with me and do some comparisons, it takes so long and won’t have a lot of time.
    Thanks for sharing the effort you out in to your videos is very much appreciated. I wish I had the patience to do it more often!

      Thanks for this comment, I'll be very interested to hear your thoughts while I'm discovering this machine!
      The F/N-F horseshoe is great. I'm not used to using that sort of scale apart from when I've watched people using detectors like the Gold Monster 1000, so it is something I'm trying to remember to look at with each target and learn what it is telling me as I go.
      Can't wait to try pitch, I'm sticking to the defaults for each main mode in the next few videos (so people can compare with their own experiences) and then I'll get tweaking.
      Cheers!!

    • @shipoffools2183
      @shipoffools2183 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mish, it’s light and compact and while very complex the pre set programs make it easy to use. I’m using Beach P even in the park for pitch mode.
      The screws on the handle and the pins in the locking triggers need a drop of thread lock on them as they all work loose, mine came in the box without one of triggers, still waiting for it!

    I really enjoyed to listening to your voice describe the readings rather than listening to the chatter of the machine.
    The ground must be alot different than here in Michigan in the US. Everything seems to be at or near the surface.
    I haven't detected in a few years since a old buddy borrowed my then new White M6, than never brought it back 😭. I figure there's a bit of learning curve with a machine like this, but I love the challenges and analytics of technology as much as the outcomes of it. I'll watch some more of your experiences but from what I observed from others channels it appears to a very capable machine.
    Thanks for sharing and hopefully I can gleen if it's worth spending the extra cash over the minelab equinox 800.

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much, James! Having the detector mostly through my headphones rather than screaming out loud is very much a personal choice - I don't like attracting much attention in public, and also I personally don't like to watch videos where the pitch is constantly interrupting a video's flow. I'm glad this presentation style works for you also. :)
      Re: the ground, this was a reserve that is only very rarely used by foot traffic now, so most of the targets would've been lost there long ago and it is unlikely to see many 'fresh drops' of coins as no-one sits there. I thought it'd be a good choice to test the D2 on varying types of targets due to the minimal surface debris.
      I like both the Equinox and the Deus 2 - the 'nox is still a very capable machine, and much simpler to learn however the D2 will really hone right in on specific targets and situations once you master the steep learning curve. So ultimately, your call on that one! Cheers mate.

      Hi Sjors, thanks for the comment. Yes, I’ve found some great things with the machine since then! In answer to your question, if you can find or make a headset with the puck holder for the Deus puck (that’s the controller attached to my headset in the video), you can use that as a wireless transmitter. The machine itself has a special shape plug for headsets so it is designed to only be used with Deus headsets.

So when I'm coin hunting I use my Rutus Alter 71 which has the option of using 90 or 120 points of ID. That way it spreads out the targets.
    When it comes to diving that's something you'll have to figure out for yourself. I'm a land lover.

    Thanks for showing XP Deus only my opinion the screen on headphones is cool ,but really if you leave main unit at home then use headphones as a screen prob bit small people may struggle to look down & read it ,bit flash $$ but soometimes if there’s a target there if your swinging with a decent machine equinox or even simplex your still going to find that target without spending all them bucks ,however it will appeal to people because adjustable length & dive features the other waterproof headphones seem cool modern tech not covering the ears 👍,even with your limited time you done a great job at a quick display thanks mish 😘

      Cheers mate! Yeah, lots of factors to weigh up for sure. Personally I think I'd always hunt with the full size remote module, but I like big tactile buttons for adjusting things when I'm wearing my oversized gloves. 😂 The D2 has multiple audio options too so I'll be testing out those alternatives, there's one that's really Excal-like in the sense that all of the info you need is there for you in audio form, and I see Deus (1 and 2) owners talking about it all the time. Can't wait to give it a test dive... but maybe when mother nature calms down out there first. 😉🌊

    Deus LCD screen is just there for quick confirmation only. But there should be XY screen in there which is more accurate than numbers. You need to listen to the sounds! But Aluminums are not possible to distinguish! They sound good!

      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate, good to see you here! I haven't even tried the XY yet, so much to learn already that I want to save that for later 😂 but I agree I need to rely more on just the audio -- I will be calling out numbers for the next few videos though, as viewers often ask me to do so. If I do buy it I'll hunt more by the tones (like I do with the Excal) and just tweak the ranges to suit what I usually find. Happy hunting!!

    Great stuff Mish!
    The Deus has always been a great point and shoot machine with simple interfaces between the components.
    Does it match a Nox on depth? and would it match a 3030 in the field on multiple targets?
    I'm asking as I'm spoilt from using a GPZ7000 on gold that will detect a 50 cent piece at two feet with ease!

    • @DirtFishMish

      Hi Peter! I'm yet to conduct depth tests, have been chatting with some more knowledgable friends about the best ways to present those (test videos are not something I've really done before on the channel). As for matching a 3030, I'm really not sure as I don't have access to one to compare, I did have a funny moment when I was setting up the D2 in my house and I quickly swung it over my floorboards where it picked up every nail individually (a few dozen nails approx. 1.5-2" apart in a row) - I found that rather impressive. 😂 You must have arms like Popeye if you're wielding both a 3030 and a GPZ7000!

      Yep, chest mount GoPro, can be a bit of a pain to angle properly while crouching but the pro is that you can see the screen! It's definitely a hot topic at the moment, for me I'm just quietly hoping it can function as an all-in-one solution for my needs (both a diving and a land unit). Thanks mate! Nox would’ve found the coin spill for sure as with any other machine, some of the other coins were in trashy patches so it may have struggled to hear them cleanly with the 11” coil but would’ve found them with the 6”. I will try a variety of locations with the machine - and I must say, my first beach hunt discovered some items that I may not have found otherwise. (That’ll be in a few videos’ time 😉) Cheers!!

      @@DirtFishMish okay so you were saying the 11 inch coil on the equinox would struggle on the depper targets? and you're using the 9-in coil on the deus 2? does that mean if you used the 11-in coil for the Deus that you would have run into the same issues as the equinox 11in over the trashy areas?
      Thanks 😁

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@somebeachdetecting not necessarily deeper targets, I'm talking about in a horizontal plane - the more targets directly underneath a coil at the same time, the less chance of a clean signal. As for comparing the two 11" together, I honestly don't know. The recovery/reactivity of the D2 is pretty awesome but I would have to see someone else test this side by side to see those results, I would however say with high confidence that the 9" would definitely separate targets slightly better than the 11" due to the above reasoning and also be slightly less prone to external factors eg. EMI.

    Hey, Mish! "Oh, no. I have to learn an entirely new numbering system!" That was my first reaction when I saw the ID chart with the completely different identification numbers, but then I thought about it for a minute....sure, it's going to take a little bit of work to get it down, but it should also really help you in the long run. Do you think the wider range of numbers used to detect possible targets will help you better identify them, and help you decide if you will dig at all? With the Nox some numbers could mean several different things from coins to rubbish. Since the Deus has a wider range of ID numbers that might give them a more defined possibility of targets. If that's the case, it seems to me that would be a great time saver and the Deus would pay for itself quicker.
    In your comparison you said the Deus has better ergonomics and feels much more comfortable. Then you said on the flip side, the graphics in regards to the notched out numbers are better on the Nox and easier to program. I look at this way....what will you notice more on a long day of hunting? What will allow you to hunt longer and with better accuracy versus how often to you change your notched out numbers? I'd go with function over aesthetics, but that's just me. Anyhow, as you also said, there is lots more to discover what works better for you. I'm sure you'll put in all the time needed to make an informed decision. Happy hunting and great coin spill!
    Looking forward to your next adventure! Later, friend!

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is indeed a new numbering system and furthermore, it varies slightly between the various modes on the Deus (an 88 might be an 86-87 in a different mode and so on). At the end of the day, though - a stable, 'clean', repeating signal that's roughly coin-sized is always worth a look regardless of what the number reads! Yes, the targets are spread out a little further between IDs so it should be much easier to work them out even with a little variance. 😊
      I agree with you.... ergonomics will win out over visuals, I just need to ensure that the machine can handle all the various types of hunting I like without too much fuss or changeover between scenarios. Cheers!!

    Hi Mish, I really thought you would find a toy car on your hunt. From the videos that I've watch, it seems like the Deus II finds things were other detectors had missed. Can Coozie is what we call the foam thing that you put your can in around here anyway. I'm sure there are other names. The price is a bit too high for me to consider getting one, I'm not that serious of a detector. Take care, John

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly thought I was on to a toy car at one point, but it was canslaw! 😂 The drawcard for me will be the ability to use it when diving, if it is both robust and lightweight underwater than I could potentially sell off my Excalibur II which is comparatively very heavy. The Equinox is limited to 10ft/3M and sadly water ingress is a known issue with some units. Time will tell. Cheers John :)
