It is important to see the whole video. The last two minutes frame it all a bit better.
The only problem I see is how much apologism there is for straight up censorship. Pulling down “controversial” episodes from him is a very slippery slope. Some day, what you deem normal, may be seen as controversial, and you will be censored.
Free speech should be equal for everyone, instead of silencing, we should teach people to think critically, and give them their right and freedom to freely choose and think. Don’t turn into Korea, with a “cleansed” state approved internet.

    • @amyjames9282
      @amyjames9282 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Free speech is good when you talk about things that don’t harm other people. But there is no excuse for using racial slurs. I mean like why? Not his opinion, not a useful fact, just no reason behind it. It does more harm than good.
The vaccine example is a good one for free speech. You should be able to say anything as that is a potential information. But he should’ve had disclaimer of his qualifications so that people have the full information. This is not a private conversation between you and me. 11 Million people listen to each episode on average and with that comes a responsibility to share the whole truth and not just what he thinks or is fun to say. Rebellion feels good sometimes but there are times where it’s morally wrong people’s lives depend on it. Compassion is a far greater virtue.

@@amyjames9282 Talking about Richard Pryors Groundbreaking comedy album "That n****** crazy" is hardly what you would call a slur. Thats its name. Context matters. Joe never used the n word against anyone. Also times changed, society seems to have decided we don't even say that word at all now. Thats great. But you can't change the past. Joe hasn't said it in years. I grew up in the 80's and 90's. It was normal to say f****t..no big deal at the time. Thankfully we weren't all being recorded at the time. Should we all be punished for existing in a different time. I don't care about what someone said yesterday..its better to focus on what they say today and tomorrow. As for vaccine misinformation...hell half the shit he said seems to be true. He was simply questioning the narrative, which is a sign of a healthy society. Try doing that in China and see how that goes.

Caya, I don't think your analysis of the issue is quite nuanced enough.
A few points that I think you need to consider here:
    1. What is 'misinformation'?
We know for a fact that what is misinformation one day may become a fact on another. This is one of the basic tenets of the endeavor of scientific inquiry.
We cannot for a claim to know for certain what is misinformation. We must always be humble in our search for truth. Certainty leads to falsehood.
    2. Who decides what is misinformation?
Is it the government? The scientific community? Are we so sure that these sources are always right?
I would hate to live in a world where we let some entity or another decide what is true and what isn't, and censor the latter. That is a dangerous, dangerous world to live in.
    3. Is the cost of censorship worth it?
We cannot afford to censor people who espouse non-mainstream opinions because the risk that they might be right is too great.
    Have a great weekend.

What I have a problem with is with everyone invoking "science", "science" doesn't "dispel", it simply presents other observations and proposes an inference. When talking to scientists they rarely ever take a binary position. I'm not in favour of accepting ONE truth, dissenting voices have to heard that's how you get a balanced conversation and that's why I LOVE Joe Rogan. He has everyone who will come on his podcast and has a LONG, intellectually curious conversation with them. Does he have biases? Sure, and he communicates them but I'm honestly tired of left leaning people throwing out the "misinformation" tag on any dissenting voice.

JOE WAS WRONG with a lot of things in the past. But he himself admitted that everytime. He is one of the last few people in public discourse who tries to be honest at all times and actually listens to and tries to understand people with opposing views. Those qualities are getting increasingly rare in our current debate-culture eventhough they are VITALLY IMPORTANT for a society to survive longterm.

I appreciate your perspective but you left out so many facts that favour Joe’s position that I wonder if you even researched the other sides perspective before making this video… For example the “100’s of doctors” that signed a petition against Joe it’s now well known there were very few doctors on that list.
I find it so weird (like “what planet am I on” weird) when people who seem level headed speak poorly about Joe on this topic 🤷🏻‍♂️

Historically, ending slavery and allowing gay marriage was seen as controversial. If society never allows the debate and discussion of controversial ideas what kind of a world would we live in?
It's incredibly important to allow the public debate and discussion of controversial issues so that society can improve and move forward.

I think no human can be expected to not make mistakes in their life. I mean, for every 1 thousand things you say, one of them is going to be wrong, controversial or an insult to someone. And when someone like him is talking all the time, a mistake now and there is bound to happen. So, it's okay when the dude says something that raises controversies, especially if he's cool enough to own up to his mistake and say that he's sorry.
We're all humans, we all make mistakes, it would be impossible for someone that has the volume of content he does to not have offended a single soul in the world. If he apologises and moves forward, I'm okay with that, even though I'm a scientist and hate fake news

    Well....
First of all I am all pro vacination since I got 3 jabs (we have taken dozens of jabs since birth) BUT I also believe you should decide on it AS LONG as you understand there might be consequences during a global pandemic.
I don't listen to the JRE podcast (but have seen a few clips on TH-cam), and although some things are at least "morally dubious" I despise cancel culture full stop. Don't like it don't watch it but "erasing" people just because you don't agree is dumb, I mean, 11 Millon listeners? are you kidding me? So a few thouthands don't like and now everyone has should not be able t listen?
Even if he had only 5 listeners it would be the same.
Ofcourse I am also against false information spreading but where to draw the line? Not everything is black and white.
And finally just regarding the last thing, words are not offensive, the way you use them mght be (for example cow is an animal and so not offensive but if I call you a cow...), so without context this compilations (and I am not defending JR since I do not know him) are biased..
If you're gonna BAN a word than what about all the music? for example half of Hip HOP?! Or is just for some?
And don't even start with some can say others can't, that is literally the definition of racism that you are trying to use to Cancel someone.
Regardless of all this nice video once again

  • @jackiedelvalle
    @jackiedelvalle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Ahh maan. I'm black, female. I quite like JR. He seems quite chill. I hate cancel culture. Umm... the whole N word thing... I dunno, it doesn't affect my life. If people don't like it, don't watch it. If enough don't watch it, Spotify will pull it. It's just not a big deal. There are WAAAAYYYYYY bigger things going on in this planet that really do affect people's lives negatively, yet no one pays a blind bit of notice. Modern culture just seems to prefer jumping from one noisy bandwagon to the next. No substance to anything.
I'm interested in REAL change, things that will cause an about-turn in the trajectory people's lives for GENERATIONS. I just can't get excited by the foolish 'he said, she said'. It's like a distraction from the REAL problems our societies have. I think govt and media are delighted when we're distracted in this way because we then don't jump on them looking for REAL solutions. 🙄

He's funny (comedian), known (news radio, fear factor), mma/ufc knowledge (domaint male audiences). These are unique combo. People love authenticity, get entertained and receive new information, knowledge. He's also a good listener and speak articulate esp with scientists, doctors, and alike. He invites all kinds of people to the show. Left or right. He regularly said he's not a doctor, a moron jokekinly. Never make people feel he knows everything. I didn't know him until he got Elon smoking. For me, that's the point I started listening to him.

Yes but simply saying, “I’m an idiot,” but then attempting to speak On a topic with authority, He is the interview has the responsibility of steering the conversation in the right direction and that direction should be towards the truth or at least the most factual information available. I don’t think Rogan has any malicious intent in what he says and I truly believe he is a great guy, however, With his massive audience, He has the ability to quickly disseminate false or misleading information. I will still occasionally watch Joe Rogan when he has a topic Of which I’m interested in for a guest that is a leader in their field but when he tells into the more conspiratorial.. I think that can be quite dangerous. His podcast aside though, I still think he is a brilliant comedian and will definitely be watching any specials he puts out, As he’s never disappointed me in that arena address far.

    Dear SlideBean Team/Caya
I have been a long time supporter and a fan and I love the content y’all create. And today I am here to tell you that I AM NOT GONNA UNSUBSCRIBE even though I wholeheartedly disagree with the some of the things you said in this video.
I want to first start by saying that I don’t think you left out any information on purpose or y’all were being purposely biased but here are something’s I believe need to be addressed.
The first one would be, Dr. Malone is not just a random Dr. He is one of the founders of the MRNA vaccines and he wasn’t really regarded as a politically right wing person up until recently . As a matter of fact, he himself has stated multiple times on twitter (before he got banned) that he supported the Biden campaign and even went as far as donating financially.
The other point I want to address is this, even though I agree with supporting the science, we have to acknowledge that we can not rely on studies that are still in trial. Many like me support science and don’t have issues with taking medication that have been around for a while because an extensive long term study has been recorded on said medications and their possible side effects. But in a time where pharmaceutical companies are driven by profits more than helping people, it is dangerous to say “the science is settled” when many of the experimental studies are happening right now. And as a firm believer in Capitalism, if we want to keep checks and balances on these private institutions, we must not take everything they say blindly. These are the same companies that paid doctors to promote smoking, and the same government institutions that used bodies of black people as experiments, just a couple of decades ago.
But most importantly, if you don’t read anything, I want you to read this part.
You said if anyone has a problem with you being jabbed 3 times then they should unsubscribe. Which makes me think that you haven’t actually met the majority of people who the media calls “anti-vaxxers”. First of all yes, there are a super small group of people that let a person’s vaccine status dictate their lifestyle. But over 95% of people who the media calls “anti-vaxxers” are simply people who do not believe that the government or any other individual should be forcing people to take an experimental drug in order to participate in society. Caya, I don’t care if you take 3 jabs or smoke 50 pounds of weed in one night. Our problem is when people start supporting the idea that unless we do what they want us to do, we shouldn’t participate in the society. I AM NOT SAYING THAT YOU BELIEVE THIS. I am just trying to explain my side.
Lastly, more than anything, I think many tech companies are suffering from lack of diversity of opinion. There is a big world outside of the small tech bubble that exists in California, New York and Austin, Texas. It just doesn’t seem like it because the closed communities from these places are smart and super powerful people and have been able to control the flow of information for some time. But there are millions in the other 48 or so states with differing opinion and if these tech companies don’t start factoring in the forgotten Americans, they are gonna pay a heavy price for it in the future. I believe that you are an open minded person Caya and I know you are super busy but I truly do believe stepping out of the bubble and exploring the other side would be super beneficial to you, your team, and your company as a whole.
I know I wrote a lot but I might as well take this chance to say what I have wanted to say for some time.
I appreciate Caya and the whole slide bean marketing team from the bottom of my heart. I see a lot of myself in y’all and y’all’s story. I too am an immigrant tech enthusiast working to break into the industry. As you can tell, a lot of my believes are not gonna be easily accepted by many of the people in this space but I truly believe this is bigger than just one person or just my vision. Therefore, I would like to thank you for everything y’all have created so far. Thank you for being an inspiration for many like me. I truly mean this and I am glad to see y’all’s success.

Yes, there should be freedom of speech, but a company shouldn't endorse/create content that spews out what can potentially be misinformation about a life and death situation. Spotify doesn't distribute Joe Rogan's podcast (like regular podcasts), it produces it. Legally, Spotify Studios is the creator of and holds the rights to Joe Rogan's podcast. This issue is not about whether or not you support the vaccines, it is about whether or not a multi-million dollar MNC should directly endorse/spread misinformation that can cost people's lives just for their profit.

Man the same people who want to pull Joe Rogan on the same people who want to pull Dave Chappelle and it's no coincidence that they are best friends and that's a pretty strong black friend to have let me just say, but if you don't listen to anything but snippets you're just not going to understand what's going on, Joe Eggs on his audience just like Dave eggs on his... And honestly I forgave Joe's misgivings about the coronavirus when I saw Dr Gupta go on his show and say CNN shouldn't have represented the medicine they gave him as horse dewormer when it won then Nobel prize as a human medicine, and then immediately go on to CNN and see the exact opposite so I think Joe was really just trying to stick up for his right to have an opinion that should be represented accurately and not just with whatever message the mainstream media wanted to give it... In other words, it seemed to me he put that information out there to see the reaction and prove the point about that and not because he was trying to be a doctor and tell other people what they should do.. he found a way to poke a hole in the system and it was very obvious the system was screwy

Now who is misinforming? Check again the list and you will see most of them have the right to an educated opinion about a pandemic and its effects! And for sure way more than a podcaster!

“Forensics” means tests used in detecting a crime.
It used to sort of make sense as an analogy when you looked at failed companies.
Now, you’re just using “forensics” to describe analyzing how existing companies operate and it doesn’t make sense at all.

Deplatforming becasue you dont like something or it offends you, is NO different from the SS and ghestappo practices from Nazi germany
If it hurts you ears and emotions, DO NOT TUNE IN. Focus your energy into more productive things.

So you are against the cancel culture but you want ppl who express their opinions to apologize for it so they will not loose it all !!! That's called hypocrisy... we are in a world full of shit and full of good, the real task for good ppl is to emphasise and support the good side of our human nature not to silence the other side.
If the culture of silencing each voice that we don't like (even if it is racist or shit voice ) will continue and become a norm then one day we'll be silenced for the slightest out of the crowd opinion, and who creats this crowd opinion!!! Mass media and ppl in power. Be honest with yourself and don't apologize just say it if you are convinced with what i said.

Seems like you kinda kit-picked a lot of information. The whole CNN thing where they insisted a drug was a horse de-wormer was kinda huge. Also what's the point of bringing up the rock? He's got clips of him saying racist things too and seems silly to act like he's the golden standard. Video felt biased.

To each there own but the world will always be split in 2 as long as we dont put humanity first and am not talking about once in awhile am talking about all the time!

Personally I think your standpoint is correct, although in my humble opinion on the whole fiasco, whenever you’re not knowledgeable on a topic, and so many people hang by every word you say and you have such power to influence the masses, you should be extremely careful with every word that comes out of your mouth, instead of having to make bullshit “apology” videos to mask your mistakes.
