    My first time driving this car was ...very scary, it is very low to the ground, 512TR is also no power steering, the clutch is hard, the gated shifter is unique and takes getting used to... same as a regular testa I guess...but still a lot easier than say .. .a lambo countch! Its an amazing car to drive regardless...

    Some of you guys don't understand the gearbox on older ferrari's. When you shift from 1st to 2nd, you have to give a bit of a rev blip, so that the engine rpm stays up, and when you shift it goes into 2nd gear better. The throttle on this car is very sensitive. Notice in my corvette Z06 video, I shift direct to 2nd gear, no need to rev blip between gears.

  • @mannygmt2
    @mannygmt2  16 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The older mid-engine Ferraris have gear boxes that do not shift well. There is quite a bit of resistance and delay in getting to the next higher gear, especially the 1st to 2nd gear change. . Therefore, the engine RPM when you shift drops excessively, and blipping the gas between shifts keeps it close to the ideal.
    (I might have overshot the rpm band in this video, but if you see my other videos, the shifts are a lot better, I am still getting used to this awesome car)

    p.s. by matching the engine speed to theinput shaft of the gearbox also makes the gear change much smoother. The gear lever goes into the right desired gear like butter. Try it for yourself.

    In reality this is the replacement for the Testarossa. The Testarossa name was still used by most because it stood for the heads painted red on the engine. There were other Ferrari's that also used the name Testa rossa = red head

  • @candal82
    @candal82 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A bunch of different reasons, depending on the car. Many older cars had no synchro's (or sometimes just very lousy ones). The driver would have to "double-clutch". That is, engaging neutral and releasing the clutch before engaging a subsequent gear. Obviously, this takes more time to do a gear change, and engine revs will drop substantially. The intent of the blip is to match the speed of the transmission input shaft (while in neutral) with the next gear selected.

    wow... all the hostility...
    first of all, my 512TR is equipped with a high flow exhaust, and test pipes... backpressure is reduced considerably. As soon as you let go of the throttle, the rpms DROP dramatically.
    My other point is... when you are in 1st gear, on these older ferrari's, the 2nd gear upshit is a long sequence... even the fastest shifter will have some trouble. I will admit, that I did overblip on the throttle, but keep in mind, this is an older car, I am still new to this.
